Cannot Install Java

I recently purchased an HP computer with Windows Vista premium. I am having so much trouble trying to install java. I've tried to install java 1.4.2, 1.5, and 1.6 but all give me these same error messages (in this exact order)
Failure Setting File's Time/Date Stamp
Java(TM) Update fails to apply changes to your system
Error 1722 There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the set up did not finish as expected. Conttact your support personnel or package vendor
These happen when I install the online or offline version of the download.
Does anybody know a way around this? Can it be fixed?
Thank you

There is at least one other report of a 1722 error that involvs HP and Vista. See the 3rd entry here:

Take a look at the HP support forums or customer service pages.

Go to the Utilities folder in your Applications folder and open Java Preferences.  If it opens just fine, check the box labeled "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications."  (For security reasons, Java will be disabled after 30 days of not being used.  If you enable Java here, I highly recommend you disable it in your web browser, as it has proven to be a serious security issue.)  If not, you will be prompted to install Java.  Click the Install button.

  • Updated N95 software now cannot install Java apps

    Hi
I recently (like yesterday) upgraded my N95 8GB to software version V20.0.016. Restored my content. My Gmail and Opera applications were no longer installed so I downloaded them but cannot install. Every time I try and install software either via my PC or directly I get the extremely informative message 'Unable to install'
    Any assistance gratefully received.

Marylanda....perhaps you need to reread the original problem.  The problem has nothing to do with rearranging apps within a collection.  The problem is that when plugged into iTunes (to sync) and trying to remove apps under that format, the "remove" button is no longer available to click.  It's "grayed" out.  You still have the ability to Install apps that way but not "remove" them.
I had a friend suggest that I turn off Restrictions on my phone, thinking that might be causing the problem.  However, even after doing that, I still cannot "remove" apps while plugged in to iTunes.
Someone really needs to help with this situation, since it appears to be happening to more and more people.

  • I cannot install Java 6 on Mountain Lion

I've always preferred to use Java 6 when I was using Lion as the Java 7 web plugin never displayed well in OSX (some glitches and design settings I didn't care for).
I just bought a new iMac with Mountain Lion, and as expected, no Java installed.
I browsed the forums and read that I can do the following to force ML to install Java 6:
Launch Terminal from /Applications/Utilities/ and type the following command:
    java -version
Hit return to see a message stating “No Java runtime present, requesting install” followed by a window prompting you to install Java SE in order to open “java”, click “Install” to get the latest version
I did this, and the installation completed.
However, when I go to a webpage that as a Java web plugin, I get a message saying "Missing Plugin." Clicking "More Info" will take me to the Java site where I will be promoted to download Java 7 (which I don't want). I've already enabled Java in Safari but I can't figure out what to do!
    Any assistance please

  • Cannot install Java 7 update 11 on 10.8.2

On 1/15/2013 update 11 for Java 7 appeared.  I tried to install it on 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.  I ran the installer and it says that installation was successful, but it really doesn't install. Java provides a check to answer the question "do I have Java" and the check shows that it is not installed.  I have tried this several times with both a Safari browser and a Firefox browser -- same negative result.  I worked yesterday for 2 1/2 hours with people at the genius bar of an apple store with negative results, even after reinstalling 10.8.2 and then trying to install Java 7u11.  I sent feedback to Java but so far no response.

    Folks,
I've been seeing the same thing. And I have three platforms, iMac, MacBook, and MacBook Pro. And all three have the same result. Needless to say I think I've become an expert on doing OS X clean installs (LOL).
@marc265, I will attempt your process and post my results.
However, this is how it went down for me:
I had cleaned installed the OS and began making sure it was patched through Apple. I then began installing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEPv12) per my work requirements. It could not execute LiveUpdate because it needed Java. I did a Terminal command and as found, no Java installed. OS X offerred to download and install from Apple. I installed and ran the Terminal command (java -version). It now showed Java 6 installed.
    SEPv12 updated, problem resolved.
I go to my NAS (WD My Book Live), and I am unable to open directories. Error states Java issue, needs most current version. I check with Apple, and I have most current available (unless I'm unaware of a special link to some download). No updates on App Store. So I go straight to Java. Get teh download 7u11, and execute. It updates and states, "Successful." Reattempted to access directories via Safari located on my NAS, same Java error. I go to Terminal and execute the "java -version" and it state v6!
I tried the Java test (oracle.com site) and it says Plug-In blocked.
I verified Safari and Java settings - No go thus far.
But what is weird is that OS X keeps responding that v6 is installed after I keep reinstalling v7u11.
I hope I didn't loose anyone with my rambling.
    /r
    Roy

  • Cannot install Java update or uninstall old version (Java error 1714)

    Hello,
When I try to install a Java upadate it fails. When doing the installation for the new version from java.com it gives the message (translated form Dutch):
+"The function you wish to use is located on a networked location which is not available. Click OK to try again or type in the field below another path to where installation package jre1.6.0_26-c-l.msi is located"+
When I cancel the installation it gives the following message:
+"Error 1714. The older version of Java(TM) 6 update 31 cannot be removed. Contact you technical support group."+
I tried the solution according to Java located at http://www.java.com/nl/download/help/error_1714.xml where it says to delete the java installation first and then install the offline package. The only problem is that I cannot seem to uninstall the current installation in my remove software list. The version there is called"Java(TM) 6 Update 29". When I want to uninstall this it gives the same message when installing the update:
+"The function you wish to use is located on a networked location which is not available. Click OK to try again or type in the field below another path to where installation package jre1.6.0_26-c-l.msi is located"+
I tried to get rid of the entire java installation by using:
    - Scanned for blocking virusses, no virruses found
    - JavaRa did not succeed in deleting current version
    - Tried installing to offline package, no success
    - Running all steps in administrator mode
None of it any succes. None of the Java using websites seem to work anymore and I can't seem to fix this. Anybody know of a solution?

Hey dude, i had this same problem and i think i've found a fix. Go to this link http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall and download the tool. It should run you through some steps. I followed the steps for having trouble uninstalling and then eventually it gives you the option to choose the application you are having problems with from a list.
Just choose the older java version and it will remove it for you. Check the windows program list and the Java entry should be properly uninstalled and you can then install the latest version of Java. Worked for me - hope it does for you :)Huh! Thanks, bookmarked that link. Very useful indeed!

  • Cannot Install Java JDK on Windows 7 Home Premium

Hello all, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question. I have an issue trying to install ANY JDK on Windows 7 Home Premium. When I run the install it throws an Error: 1722. I've tried looking around on Google but haven't found much. Has anyone else has this error?

I tried to install the windows7 64-bit jdk on my windows7 64-bit computer with 2 browsers, chrome and firefox. There was no difference between browsers. Then, I repeatedly installed and uninstalled many, many times, trying to figure out what was wrong.
After an easy install, I click on the jdk program to try to use it, and I get a pop-up saying something like, you have already installed this, do you want to install it again? That is all I get from the installed jdk program, there is nothing else the program will do, only give me that pop-up.
I then read and studied all the online info from all the java websites. Their website info does not mention this problem. Then I did all the you tube videos that deal with this problem. After watching a you tube video, I clicked start, and typed in cmd, and then typed javac; the message I am given is that javac is not recognized as a command.
Then, I tried to contact the java/oracle company many different ways, with chat and email, and got NO response; they are not addressing or responding to this situation in any way.
Last night, I contacted my computer company, and after speaking with them, they are saying they will go into my computer and make the necessary software changes to the windows 7 so that the java jdk will be properly working. Sounds great, but - they want to charge me a lot of $$MONEY. I got two price quotes, $80 and $89. It is not free, which is frustrating. The java download is free, but I do I have to pay to get it properly installed on my computer? Can anyone provide wise advise? Is there any way I can get it properly installed for free?
Also, someone mentioned that maybe my Norton Antivirus is preventing the proper jdk install, but I doubt it, since the norton antivirus has never before given me any problem.
    Please help. Thanks!

Can anyone please help me how to install it?

The plugins folder in the Firefox installation folder doesn't exist by default. There is no default plugin in Firefox 4, so that folder would be empty and in thus not included. If you want to use that location then you need to create a plugins folder.
    Did you try /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins ?

Firefox needs 32-bit plugins, so you'll need to install 32-bit Java for Firefox.
No, you can't change Firefox from 32-bt to 64-bit. There is a Nightly 64-bit version (alpha) of Firefox, but it is used only to test for regressions until development is resumed.

I might be doing some programming for my company soon
which will require a program to monitor a database
and whenever there is a change to certain fields, it
must copy certain fields into another database. When I see "whenever thiere is a change to certain fields" I tend to think "triggers" - but maybe this won't work for you 'cause of the "another database" part. And the fact that triggers are inherently evil.

Is it possible to run a Java program as a windows
service? And if so then how would you go about it? I'd hit Google - there're a couple ways to do this.
    [snip]
Also,...if I were to use one of those programs which
can make an .exe of a Java program, then do you still
require the JRE to be on the machine? It depends on how you did the conversion. If you compile to native then no, if you just wrap up a JRE then yes.
    Why I ask is
that I occasionally get asked to do small development
projects for my company, but we are a microsoft
partner and therefore do all the development in C#
and the like. So I would like to just implement as
many things in Java as I can, just to show everyone
that Java can do exactly what C# can do. But its
difficult to convince people of this since I always
require the JRE and they dont. Of course, they require the .NET framework and you don't. And last I looked that thing was around 23 Meg.
