Cannot install JRE 1.6u7

Hello,
I recently formatted my hard drive and after reinstalling Windows XP SP2, I am having problems installing JRE on my system.
These are two different types:
1. When I double-click the offline installation file [version 6 update 7, newly downloaded], nothing happens. The process shows up in the task manager for a few seconds, and then disappears completely. No further procedure takes place.
2. I observed that doing the above mentioned step leaves the installation MSI file at the location "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_07\jre1.6.0_07.msi". If I double-click on this particular file, the installation starts without problem, but gives an error at the end.
The error is: "bin\java-rmi.exe: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."
After that, the installation gets canceled and it then it gives another error message - this one about the MSI package - Error 1722 to be precise.
"Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Then it does the revert back procedure, which actually doesn't revert anything. All files created remain on the hard drive.
The log file at "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\MSI30af4.LOG" mentions the following:
"Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action patchjre, location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Update\Base Images\jre1.6.0.b105\patch-jre1.6.0_07.b06\patchjre.exe, command: -s "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\"
=== Logging stopped: 7/15/2008 23:07:43 ==="
I went to java.com and tried the various solutions mentioned there, but none of them seem to work. I even tried to install an older version of JRE, but with the same result.
I sincerely hope you can help me troubleshoot the problem.
Thanks in advance,
Levi Smith.

The first time I tried to install, it was on a freshly formatted hard drive and a freshly installed OS. So there was no such directory present. After that, however, I tried the installation after removing all the previously created files, cleaning the registry, etc. So again that directory was not present by my reckoning.
Oh, and I also tried to install in a different folder - C:\Java or D:\Java, etc. but with same result.
Do you need any more details to solve this mystery?

  • WinNT4.0: Cannot install JRE 5.0 Update 7

I have a clean install of WinNT4.0 with SP6, IE6+SP1 and all Windows Updates. Nevertheless Im not able to install JRE. During the install process I get a "there is a Windows Installer problem. A specific DLL cannot be executed" (roughly translated from german). Why is that happening on a clean installation? Right now I cannot even unstall. Im stuck :(

Many people (including me) posted this "INSTALLATION PROBLEM" (Windows Installer going crash when attemting to install JRE 5.0 Win for AMD64).
It seems DEP (Data Execution Prevent or Protection...) service causing "forced" quitting of Windows Installer, but whatever you either exclude Windows Installer application from DEP list or even turn-of DEP service it won't help in any case.....Windows Installer 'll encounter problems anyway..and crash when attemting install.
Sun says (in a "post note") that support for AMD64 'll be available since the release 2 of JRE 5.0 but for what Operative System??
On Windows XP PRO 64bit Ed. (or was only for Windows 2003 Server 64bit Ed.?) the support for AMD64 CPU has been introduced only in this latest release 4, and IT DOESN'T INSTALL AT ALL (at least for some users..)!
Most strange thing is that although there are several complaints concerning this matter since many time, NOBODY seems to have been able to fix to this common complaint. Is it possible nobody at Sun applied on this problem? Are they still working on it? Did they fix it? If anybody knows anything about this matter, please take me informed! Thanx.

  • Cannot install JRE 6 on Solaris 10

    Hello,
I would appreciate any help with the installation of JRE 6 on 32-bit x86
Solaris 10, which is actually a virtual OS under VMware ESX 3.5. "uname -a":
    SunOS <hostname> 5.10 Generic_120012-14 i86pc i386 i86pc
First, I patched the OS with all required patches. Then I have downloaded
jre-6u4-solaris-i586.sh from sun.com, made it executable and ran,
but checksumming failed: "The download file appears to be corrupted...".
I tried to download by browser and by SDM, so I am sure the download is
correct. OK, I renamed /usr/bin/sum to skip checksumming, and now I get:
"Segmentation Fault - core dumped. Failed to extract the files.
Please refer to the Troubleshooting section of the Installation
Instructions on the download page for more information."
The install.sfx file created by the installer is
ELF 32-bit LSB executable 80386 Version 1, dynamically linked, stripped
Is there any way to proceed with this? Is there a way to install Java 6
by the package manager? Am I doing anything wrong?
Where is that "Troubleshooting section"? Do not expect much
help from it, but cannot find it anyway.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Resolved: I downloaded via Firefox running on Solaris (not Windows, and then WinSCP to Solaris, as I did before), the checksums are correct and everything installs fine.

I am running Windows XP Home.
When I install j2re-1_3_1_08-windows-i586-i.exe by double clicking on it, everything seems to go OK, the installer says that installation was successfull.
But when I check objects via Tools ... Temporary Internet files ... Objects, the column STATUS contains the word Skadad (swedish) = Damaged.
When I installed version 1.4.2_04, then the installation was OK. But I HAVE TO use version 1.3.1_08 because the application cannot use version 1.4.2

  • Jre 1.6u7 install failure

Continuing install failures for jre 1.6u7 and 1.6u10(rc) on Windows, SP2. I have two users with desktop machines trying to install jre 1.6.07 for oracle discoverer. So 10 installs went ok, but 2 machines won't install/run jre 1.6u7 properly. They previously had installed jre's 1.4 and 1.5, various updates to those. Have uninstalled and installed 1.6 numerous times, but the java control panel will not open. Frequently the installer hangs on "Gathering Required Information". We kill the msiexec.exe, restart machine, add/remove the java, eventually install seems to run. But then, click on Start, control panel, java and nothing happens, control panel will not display. When we try to run our application, IE crashes. Original problem occurred with the install of the JRE 1.6 from the Discoverer server, download/install seemed to hang. Haved tried using the Windows Install Clean Up utility, have unregistered and registered windows installer service, have removed java and manually deleted registry entries for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Javasoft. No obvious messages from the installer, nothing in java_install_reg.log, java_install_sp.log, java_install.log. Errors in Windows Event Viewer for Application for the conflict when we hadn't completed the previous install previously, but the reboot semed to get us past that.
Any ideas on how I debug this issue, why javacpl.exe won't run?
    Thanks.

To clarify again, this is a runtime error rather than an install error.
If this is not obvious to the point of being annoying, I would think that it is your task to try and isolate what it is that makes those two machines different. Are all of your machines supposed to be mirrors of each other? I can understand that your request is driven by hoping for a hint of where to look on those machines for their relevant differences, but it strikes me as unlikely that we can provide a clue here.
You might want to start by just going to the Control Panels of a machine that works and a machine that does not work and looking for differences in install software. You suggest that they are all at SP2 and I would not expect this sort of problem to be service-pack related.
Is there a possibility that those two systems are corrupt (failing hard drive, virus, etc)? Is is possible to just clone a working system onto the two misbehaving ones? I realize that my response does not address a Java-specific issue, but you problem does not strike me as being specific to Java.

    Hello gimbal2,
i agreed with my CA-Support to ask for help here, after many trys to fix the issue.

  • Want a code to check & install JRE automaticallly without user intervention

    hi
I am trying to run an applet on a machine that is not having JRE on it.
want a code that will check for such condition and install JRE automatically.
If JRE is already present then it should check for required version and enable it also.
    please help in this regard.
    thanks in advance
    Santosh.

The ability to detect the jre at the update level, as well as the ability to install a specific version are only present if the DT plugins are installed.
These plugins only exist for windows and are only part of the 6u10 (1.6.0_10) versions of java.
The javascript you show uses an undefined minimumVersion variable.
also note, you cannot use the wildcard '1.5.0*' in the call to isWebStartInstalled (which takes minimumVersion arg)
if fixed, this code would still not work as you want, since clients with 1.6.0 or later would sail straight thru and launch.
    I suggest replacing isWebStartInstalled() with deployJava.versionCheck('1.5.0*') .
then on systems with the plugin installed, if no 1.5.0* version is installed, the latest 1.5.0_XX will be installed before launching the app.
(assuming the app has also <j2se version=1.5/> or equiv.)
on systems w/o plugins installed, the latest version of java will be installed, and it will be up to javaws auto download to get 1.5.0* version.
this could still have problems, especially on platforms not supporting the plugins (non-windows) , since code keeps checking for '1.5.0*', and installing only latest, so you would want to wrap install with something to prevent repeated attempts to install:
    if (deployJava.versionCheck('1.6.0+') && !deployJava.isPluginInstalled()) {
    ---- don't do any install here - ---

  • Trying to install JRE 7u7

    Hello,
I'm trying to install JRE 7u7 x64 and am having a few problems.
I can run the installer and its fine until it begins to install. Then an error message appears saying:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
It is referring to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk 1.7.0_02\\", which doesn't exist on my computer.
It then comes up with Error 1714:
"The older version of Java 7 Update 7 cannot be removed."
    The installer then quits.
Because of this I cannot run any .jar files at the moment.
Is there any way I can fix this and install a working JRE?
I've successfully installed the JDK 7u7 x64 and u2 previously.
I had JRE which worked OK before this but it suddenly stopped. I'm afraid I'm not sure whether it was 7u2 or version 6.
    Thanks for any help.

  • How to install JRE without the registry

I am on a win2k system. I cannot install the sun 1.4.2 JRE as I dont have sufficient privileges on my comp. Is there any way to install it bypassing the registry?
Later on I can work by including JAVA_HOME/bin in my path.

    I am on a win2k system. I cannot install the sun 1.4.2
JRE as I dont have sufficient privileges on my comp.Depends on what you mean by "install".
You can just copy a JRE directory into some location that you can write to, and run the java there by invoking your_location/bin/java. The JRE itself has no use for the registry, and doesn't care where it's installed. It doesn't even have to be on the PATH: it figures out where it's installed by looking at argv[0] and loads up the environment from there.
On the other hand, if you are firing off an Internet Explorer or other browser, and somehow expect it to find your JRE for <applet> tags, it can't do that unless you install the JRE into the registry itself.

    Hello,
I searched google and found many documents and also tried 1-2 option posted on web but didn't succeed so last solution posting here.
Trying unsupported installation R12(12.1.1) on Windows 7-Professional 64-Bit.
System check succeeded without any trouble but with 33% installation, it gives above error(*windows cannot find \jre\NT\1.5.0\bin\java* ) and installation comes out.
The StartCD came with jre\NT\1.6.0\bin\java directory so i tried to rename the folder with 1.5.0 ( reference and also changed in Rapidwizard.cmd .
but now it doesn't throw any error but after 33% complete, it just exists without too much of information.
The log too had only this info after system check messages

    I got following DVDs
    oraAppsDB1
    oraAppsDB2
    oraApps1

and then i tried to create stage area from startCD but it failed as it was asking for a DVD which i didn't have because i tried every DVD i have.
So i manually created directories in stage area(StageR12).
    Appreciate your response.

  • Installing JRE on RHE 3 - Issues with JRE Path

    Hello,
First of all, I am very new to linux (I normally have server admins but since it's weekend it looks very bad)
I have installed j2sdk1.4.2 today but it seems like something went really wrong as we cannot locate jre.
I have installed a chat server which has a startup file containing:
    #!/bin/sh
    jre -ms8m -mx128m -classpath $CLASSPATH:NetDiveServer.jar NetDiveServer port=2112 httpPort=2113 config=.
After running it I simply get the message
    jre: command not found
Maybe somebody could point me to some site where oath setups are explained very well since I am very new to this. I believe it is all about setting up paths so maybe somebody could help out there.
    Thanks

Thanks for your qucik reply. If I can get JRE and Jedit working on my jumpdrive, it will be great and save me a lot of time. I am a new user so I might be asking some obvious questions here.
My question is : What is the difference between integrating JRE with IE and JRE with Jedit? If I run JRE as a stand alone program then will Jedit link to the JRE properly? Anyone care to comment on what the standard installation program does to provide the integration? I guess it is more than just copying files.
What happens if there is another JRE running already? maybe the same or different version of JRE as the one on my jump drive.
    Thanks for your help.
