Cannot install lion 10.7.4 on my harddrive

I've just purchased and completed the downloading of Lion 10.7.4 to my MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - RAM 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 with current system Snowleopard 10.6.8).
Problem: I cannot install Lion to my harddrive. My Mac HD (which is the only harddrive on the computer) is greyish and a message appears saying: "This harddrive is used for Time Machine safety copies" (translated from Swedish), which is not so - as far as I know. I obviously can't choose the Mac HD for installing.
(I have a Freecom 1 TB harddrive which I use for safety-copying. I recently made a full system backup to the Freecom using Disk Utilities using the Source and Target in "Re-create". (Source = my Mac HD on the MacBook Pro, Target = my Freecom external harddrive).)
Look forward to getting some help in this matter!
Thanks!

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info and then System Report. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

I changed my wireless broadband to a landline-base DSL wifi and it works like a charm. Sun was the culprit even you fiddle with its router and disable firewall, it won't work.
try changing yours too and let me know how it goes.

You need a "Core 2 Duo" for lion, and I'm guessing you only have a "Core Duo"  My wife's macbook is also a "Core Duo" and has Snow Leapord, but cannot install Lion.....

  • Macbook Air with no OSX (Mid 2011) ... cannot install Lion nor Snow Leopard

I have a Macbook Air with no OSX (Mid 2011) ... and I cannot install Lion nor Snow Leopard.
I purchased this Macbook Air 13" and found that the OS had been wiped off. Since then I've been able to get the Recovery Disk Assistant to get me into the Recovery Partition on the MBA... but when I try the "Reinstall Mac OS X" from within Mac OS X Utilities, the download fails after 30 sec. and I get the error message, "Could not find installation information for this machine. Contact Apple Care". This MBA is still covered under Apple's Applecare, but the nearest Apple Store is 3 hrs away and from what I've read, they may not be able to help me.
I know all about Build 11A2063 but cannot figure out where or how to get that.
Also, I've tried making a bootable Lion Drive from my Mac Mini onto a flashdrive, but this too did not work on the MBA (I assume because it isn't Build 11A2063).
I have a huge expensive paper weight with no idea of where to go from here. Any help would be much appreciated.

Where did you buy an MBA without an operating system?  Was this from another individual who took the liberty to remove the Mac OS X before selling it to you?
You might try calling Apple customer support and have them walk you through the process, as they can figure out just what version of the OS should be on that machine.

  • Cannot install lion. "The Disk is Locked" help please!

I was hoping someone could help me.  I just downloaded the Mac OS X Lion and when trying to install, it says there is an error with the disk and that it is locked and cannot install.  Does someone know how I can fix this?  Now I am also worried that I have lost my files.  PLEASE HELP!  Thank you!

Try to Repair it, per #6 in  Using Disk Utility.

  • I cannot install Lion to a backup drive for my new Mac Mini

I just bought the new Mac Mini with an i7 processor last week. I wanted to format a backup drive for it. When I tried to use the Lion Recovery partition on the new Mac Mini, I keep getting an error message that says it's incompatoble with the current model.
I also tried to use the Lion thumbdrive I purchased from Apple to see if that can be used, but it also give me the incompatible message.
Is there a special version of Lion that's only for the new Mac Mini's?
    Any help is appreciated!

Read this, it will explain it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4905
Mac mini (Mid 2011), MacBook Air (Mid 2011): Use Lion Recovery instead of OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive
    Last Modified: September 01, 2011
    Article: HT4905
    Summary
Learn about using Lion Recovery or the built-in OS X Lion recovery partition rather than OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive with computers released after OS X Lion.
    Products Affected
MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011), MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011), MacBook Air (Mid 2011), Mac mini (Mid 2011)
Use Lion Recovery to restore Mac computers released after OS X Lion. If you attempt to use the OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, a message will appear stating that you cannot install this version of OS X on your computer. This is correct behavior to make sure you install only the correct and most up-to-date version of Mac OS X on your computer.
Note: You can also use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant on your Mac to create a bootable image to make sure you recover the correct version of OS X Lion. To use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant, you need to have your own USB drive.
    Additional Information
If you have a network connection, you should receive the appropriate version of Mac OS X when using the built-in Recovery HD partition on Macs running Lion.

  • Cannot install Lion on External Hard Drive

I have a brand new ssd in a hard drive enclosure and want to put lion on it before I install it into the computer, taking out the old hard drive (with SL on it). I got it from the app store, it installs until it has to restart, and then after it restarts and is installing is says cannot install because it cant create a recovery partition or something like that. How can I do this? Do I need to install the empty ssd, then have lion on a bootable usb and install from there? Thanks in advance.

Carbon Copy Cloner will make a bootable external drive.  The old version is shareware if you can download it, the new version is commercial.  It is a great program.  I have been using it for years back to a G4.  Many backups do not create a bootable drive.

  • My mac mini is 2007 and has a core duo so I cannot install lion which needs a 2 core duo. Does this exclude me from the iCloud or is there a way I can upgrade my mac mini?

Mac mini duo core. I want to join the iCloud as I have MobileMe . However my mac mini has a dou core and not a 2 duo core I cannot by the lion app to install. Is there anyway I can upgrade my mac mini to 2 duo core? Or get the iCloud installed any other way?

You must have Lion to use iCloud, although you can still access iCloud.com for the web services. Your email is unaffected.

  • Cannot install lion when i try to reinstall it

I've tried to reinstall lion using command-R, but during the download stage, approximately half way it says i don't have an internet connection. I doubled check if I had internet(My connection was fine) and I was using an ethernet cable. So I have to restart the download, and I've done it 5 times already.  Can anyone help me please?

That's fine. Just needed to be sure you weren't trying to connect with both. If Lion is still installed, have you tried creating a USB thumb drive using the Lion Recovery Assistant with the Recovery HD on it and install that way?
I haven't tried reinstalling using the Recovery HD so I'm at a lose. Maybe someone else with experience with this type of error can chime in.

  • Cannot install Lion Server

I launch Server.app, click 'Continue', accept licence, 'Continue', it asks for my admin user/pass which I give then click again on 'Continue'.
Then, it stops forever at 'Configuring services'.
In console, I have 7 lines like
authorizationhost : SFBuiltinEntitled: Server.app is not entitled for com.apple.ServiceManagement.daemons.modify
(the 7 only differs after 'for') then one with
com.apple.SecurityServer : Failed to authorize right 'system.install.app-store-software' by client '/System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/PackageKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/in stalld' [481] for authorization created by '/Applications/Server.app' [460]
But, I entered my regular user/pass, the same account I used to buy Lion Server; the same I use to update software. So, why my admin account is not enough to configure Lion Server services?
    Any ideas are welcome!

+1  same issue for me too.
I have a wireless connection though, wondering if it is a wired connection that is being asked for here?
