Cannot Install Nvidia

I cannot installed the nvidia driver. I am running 2.6.13; just installed ALL the updates this morning.
I am of course, not running X while trying to install.
Here's what I get:
checking package integrity... done.
loading package data... done.
checking for file conflicts... done.
installing nvidia... done.
IMPORTANT
==> In order to use the software, you have to agree to NVIDIA's license located in

FATAL: Module nvidia not found.
If you need more information about setting up nvidia drivers have a look at:
"http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/How … DIA_driver"
What should I do?

 Make sure you are in kernel 2.6.13.
 Make sure no X (or what kind-a X-relative process, e.g. GNOME, GDM, KDM, whatever) is running.
If you compile and it still fails, then you could probably try installing the package manually by running:
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/nvidia-1.0.7676-3.tar.gz
or whatever your latest/wished nvidia pkg name is.

  • Re: Satellite P850 - cannot install Nvidia driver from NVIDIA webpage

    Hello,
    I bought a Satellite P850 like 2 months ago,is a great notebook and i love it.
Well the question is,i checked nvidia web page to check last drivers,i saw that my pc got 295.55 and nvidia web page got 301.42,so i tried to update but is impossible. After download and press install it say that is not compatible, what is the way to update them?
    Thanks so much.
    And sorry for my english.

Go to the driver download page (UK in this example) [http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk] and take Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products. and select Graphics Driver. This downloads a program that examines your PC and identifies if there is a new driver and offers to download/install it. (The program may not run under Google Chrome)
I have had no problem using Nvidia drivers and until a couple of years ago they would not supply laptop drivers but they now have them "WHQL" ( [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHQL_Testing] ) certified and released to the public.

  • Cannot install NVIDIA 171.06 driver...

So I've compiled custom 2.6.25 kernel (downloaded it from kernel.org to /usr/src, extracted, symlinked to linux... cd linux; make menuconfig; make clean; make; make modules_install; then cp /usr/src/linux-2.6.25/arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot/kernel, etc, rebooted into my new and shiny kernel). Downloaded 171.06 driver from nvidia.com. When trying to install it (sh NVIDIA*) I get error, here's my log:

    Hello!
I have same problem. I have tried to update it whit live-updata and for manually. When I install it, everything seems to goes okay, but after installing live-update shows that I still got v. 9.15.
I have allmost same mainboard than you, but ultra version. ( MSI nF570 ultra )
I have to ask, do you have had some problems while downloading? I have some problem in dual lan circuit. My computer shuts down if I download something in fast bit rate and do some browsing at the same time.
No, I'm not having the downloading problem.

    Hi all
I try to compile the package as you suggested but with no luck see the steps I did below:

  • Cannot install Win 8 on a late 2013 iMac using bootcamp on 10.9

I'm trying to install Win 8 on a late 2013 iMac (purchased a couple of months ago)
I have a win 8 pro DVD, but obviously there is no DVD in this iMac. I usally use the DVD drive in my older 2009 iMac for any disk based installs but I can't appear to use it here.
I followed the instructions and downloaded a Win 8 Pro ISO from Microsoft to use with my authentication code, created a bootable USB using bootcamp, created the partition and rebooted. Once I'd entered the code I get to the install location but it says I cannot install on the partition created by bootcamp. Even if I format the partition it says I need a GPT drive but I have MBR, so won't let me install.
I tried several suggestions including creating aprtitions in various other programs and once I even got past that screen, but as soon as it tried to install I got another error saying the MBR was formatted incorrectly and it failed.
I had no issues installing Win 7 via bootcamp on the older iMac, but this one has me stumped. I used to think I knew a bit about computers, but I'm fairly new to Mac related issues as the older iMac has always just worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
I just installed Windows 8.1 on my Late 2013.
There are just a couple of things I had to do that deviated from the Boot Camp Installation Manual.
    1.  I downloaded my copy of Windows 8.1 as an ISO image AND as a bootable USB from the Microsoft site.
Not sure why I did that but it came in handy because Bootcamp was taking a very long time to copy the ISO onto the USB stick..
The ISO copying seemed to freeze up, but it's likely that it was just taking a long time, probably 20mins.
So, instead of waiting, I took the contents of the the USB startup stick and simply moved them over to the stick that Bootcamp had formatted for the ISO copy (I cancelled that copy function and deleted any files that had copied but didnt complete).
Once that was done, the machine rebooted from the USB stick and began the normal Windows setup process.
All went very smoothly except that my mouse was not working.
    2.     To get around the mouse issue, I simply plugged in a MS USB Mouse and it worked immediately.
The Bootcamp manual advised that the way around this was to 'click in upper right corner and search for Bootcamp'.   Problem was, it was nowhere to be found.
So, using my MS mouse, I navigated to the 'DESKTOP' icon in Win 8.1 and found File Explorer, which showed my USB stick connected along with Bootcamp and the MS Support File (i.e. All the Apple Drivers).
I began manually clicking on all the driver files until realizing that there IS a Bootcamp executable which will automatically install the drivers for the Nvidia card, keyboard, camera, mouse, etc....
Once that was done, my installation was completed.
The entire process took about an hour, but now that I've done it, it really shouldnt take much more than 45 mins.
I have the late 2013 iMAC, with the GTX780M and 1TB Fusion Drive i5 Quad Core.
For those who are leery about doing this, please note that I'm a PC 'lifer' and this is my very first go-around with doing anything on an Apple product.
It all went much more smoothly than I could have imagined, but if you are not a PC person, you might be a little challenged finding the Bootcamp in File Explorer or doing anything in Win 8.1 to get over these minor hurdles.
    Good luck!
I'm looking forward to getting STEAM up and running to see how this thing games!

  • Cannot install windows 8 on Pavilion Elite M9600T (KX745AV-ABA) with Vista 64 BIT

I cannot install windows 8 on my computer. I contacted Microsoft and he worked on it for three hours and said I had a graphics card driver problem.I am using a Nvidia GeForce 9800GT which came with the computer.  When I try to update to the latest driver (306.97) Which is on the Microsoft update site and also on the Nvidia site The screen says no signal and goes to sleep. I have been working with a Nvidia rep for a week now and he says it is not their driver that is causing the problem and that I should contact HP. I don't know what else to do. I removed the working Nvidia driver (SP41066) also and Tried to install windows 8 and recieved the same message "Windows installation was not successful" and returned me to Vista 64 Bit. I don't know what else to do. Can someone please help or am I just out of luck. Thank you,
    Gene

    You're welcome mrchips108
By the way up for one more go. I was finally able to find someone with a possible solution for you. the user yashoshah on the tomshardware forums had the problem:
"Windows installation was not successful. Your previous version of windows will be restored. Please do not switch off your computer during this time"
    SOURCE: Windows installation not successful
He fixed it by removing the HDMI cable and connecting to the monitor through DVI. After it was installed he went back to using HDMI.
How is your video card connected to the monitor: what cable and what interface is on the monitor and what interface are you using on the video card? Perhaps the Microsoft rep you spoke to was partly correct about the video card being the problem. It might be that the driver built into Windows 8 has a problem with certain configurations.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" to those that help solve your problems.
When a solution is found please mark the post that solves your issue.

  • Unable to boot arch after re-installing nvidia

My system is x64. I have Ubuntu installed along with Arch on a different partition. After having installed arch with some (probably redundant) nvidia packages, I decided to remove them by installing packam -S nvidia nvidia-uitls.
I had to remove mesa-(something or just mesa, I don't remember) and xf86-video-nouveau. So I installed nvidia nvidia-uitls successfully. Plus after that I installed xfce-settings because as I found out it should have resolved the issue of gnome-terminal. and I added this to xorg.conf:
    Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "Enable"
    EndSection
The bottom line is, I can't boot to arch anymore. Only standard label on the black screen shows up (kvm: disabled by bios) and nothing else happens, meaning it kind of "boots" but it doesn't boot further than showing that label. What can I do?

  • Z360 - How to install NVIDIA drivers and enable Optimus on Ubuntu 13.04

    Hello,
I moved to use Ubuntu on my Z360 laptop. I installed Ubuntu 13.04.
But I have a problem with NVIDIA drivers. I tried to download it from NVIDIA website and install it but it brings a lot of problems.
The resolution of desktop switched to very low and OpenGL cannot start - all dialogs hasn't title panel, desktop without panels.
Please, can somebody explain how can I install NVIDIA drivers and enable Optimus on my Z360?

I am not sure if Nvidia supports 13.04 because it is still in the Beta stage?
    Cheers and regards,

  • Re: Satellite P870 - Cannot install Intel display driver

    Hi,
I have tried from both Intel and from Toshiba and cannot install the Intel driver.
Without the Intel driver I cannot install the Nvidia driver, I have tried downloading the Intel utility installer from Toshiba as well as the Intel HD 4000 driver.
I do not want to do a system recovery. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks the model number is P 870 02k00s
It came with Windows home 7 64 bit pre installed. I upgraded to to Pro for work.
It was working good until last week where someothing made the intel driver start showing it had a fault at this point i uninstalled the driver hoping it would reinstall and i could go on my merry way.
After this point i tried downloading the driver packs from both toshiba support and intell but both dont work.
Currently the intell display adapter is listed as video controller (VGA compatible).
The NIVDIA driver staes i need to install the intel first

  • Cannot install LR5 due to not having Windows 7.

I purchased an update of LR5 and cannot load it because I do not have Windows 7. Is there anything I can do other than buying a new computer?

From what I conclude, it is not an upgrade to 4.4, but a stand alone program that all of a sudden needs windows 7, which I do not have. After downloading windows 7 test program to see if I can have windows 7 and it's compatibility, it turns out my machine is not compatible or many issues with warning symbols. I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop with 12GB ram and 1TB hard drive, windows 8, with NVIDIA G Force video card just so I can play with LR5. All I am saying is, if it's an upgrade, fine, don't change the operating system requirements. Make it a stand alone program. Then, previous owners of LRxx have the option of buying LR5 at a reduced rate rather than paying full price. Then everyone is aware of the incompatibilities.
Thx for listening to my rant and I appreciate Adobe to offer to repurchase the software. I just hope I can re-load LR4.4 on this new laptop and accept LR5 without having to pay again for LR4.4.

    You're welcome Rémi,
Unfortunately, purchasing software, much like anything else you buy online, is pretty much on the buyer to beware.  The vendor cannot know the intended use, whether the software is being purchased for the machine at hand, or another machine, or as a gift for someone else.  They provide a list of system requirements in the product pages but don't intrude into your machine to determine whether or not it is a suitable match.
It looks like Jeff might have provided a reasonable recourse for you.  Hopefully you won't run into a problem there.

  • Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

    Dear all,
Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.
Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).
I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.
Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?
    Best Regards, Evgeny.

I guess you are speaking about this Toshiba package:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/services/on-demand/business-computing/sdp120gs-v/
I dont have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.
However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]
By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.
So maybe you should use the UEFI mode but should disable the secure boot option in order to boot from LAN.

  • Cannot install windows, starting to get really pissed off with this PLEASE HELP

ok, i'm starting to get agitated with this.
i cannot install windows XP, 2003, OR Longhorn on my machine.
right now, i have the following setup:
    msi 865pe neo2 motherboard
    intel p4 3.2ghz w/HT (factory HS/Fan currently)
    1 dimm of PC3200 crucial DDR400
30GB maxtor HD plugged into primary IDE
pioneer dvd/cd drive as sencondary IDE
    alps 3.5" floppy drive
    antec true blue 480wt PSU
    i do the following:
    format with maxtor cd
    boot from OS cd
    start setup, reboot, continue
the farthest i can get is 'registering components/completing installation' i either get a blue screen stop error which isnt the same everytime, or it just locks up and doesnt do anything.
ran the memtest checker and get errors on test #4
i had a DIMM of kingston that gave the same errors, so i RMA'd it and got another. same errors, so i RMA'd again and got a Crucial stick. same errors.
so i RMA'd the motherboard since i figured it had to be that. and it improved from the problems i had earlier. (the problems i had before were worse before.)

yea, i dont plan to run the 250. im gonna wait for the new 480.
thanks for the info about ram timings as well. i havnt gotten any solid answers about what to set it to.
even with new mobo and ram, i'm getting errors in memtest86 #4 test as i always have. i've tried different slots with same problems.
i only have one module because i dont want to waste anymore money on a non-working system. once i get it up and running i'll add another 512.

  • Cannot install Windows 8.1 via Boot Camp on MBPr 13" Early 2013; tried almost everything.

    Hi guys,
yesterday, I decided to install Windows 8.1 on my Mac using Boot Camp. I tried to install it, but the first attempt ended into booting to the screen, where it says "Cannot find any bootable device" or something like that. So I googled it up and then tried the EFI Boot. The EFI Boot booted into the Windows installation properly, but I cannot choose the partition I want to install it on. I tried partitioning it in Disk Utility using Tuxera to NTFS, I tried formatting it in the installation itself, always restarted between the processes, I tried to delete the partition and create a new one in the installation, but no luck. I am still stuck on the error "Cannot install Windows on MBR partition. Please, choose a GPT partition". I have a 256GB SSD disk. I browsed the problems and solutions for 3 hours, but no luck. None of the solution helps. The only solution that would work I guess is if I don’t boot into EFI, but into the BIOS installation. But when I do that, I get the "Cannot find any bootable device", so a dead end here. I also tried the tips where they say to remove the USB stick when the Windows installation starts, but didn’t help either.
I am installing using a bootable USB drive, I do not have a Superdrive and cannot even lend it or something like that.
I am really desperate, can anyone please help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    DavidKop_

Some people have been successful installing 8.1 (me, for instance) despite it not being supported. However this seems to be hardware dependent.
I would have expected the normal WININSTALL option to be available on a Bootcamp-created USB, not just the EFI boot option.
It really depends on whether Bootcamp is creating a hybrid MBR when it creates the Bootcamp partition. Some later model Macs do not. On the Macs that do not create the hybrid MBR Windows may install in EFI mode.
If you remove everything and stretch the Macintosh HD back to the full size of the disc again then reboot and when the system restarts begin the Bootcamp installation again but do not let it restart at that time, you can then run the following code in the terminal and report its output we will be able to see if a hybrid MBR has been created (this is after the partition has been created by Bootcamp, but before it reboots).
    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

Looks like you can choose from :
-contact the maintainer to see if you can help with getting it to work with kernel 3.16
    - downgrade the kernel
    - switch to nouveau
Note that there are comments on the aur page that state nvidia-173xx doesn't work with xorg 1.16, so you may have to downgrade more then just the kernel.
