  • Help! I can't install or uninstall Adobe Reader.

I accidentally deleted part of Adobe Reader 8.1.2. Now, I can't read PDF documents. I tried to install Reader 9 but I kept getting a message box that says, "The feature you are using is on a network resource that is unavailable." It also gives me the option to try again or change the directory, neither of which solves the problem.
I then went to the Control Panel and tried to have the Add or Remove Programs application remove Reader 8.1.2 but the exact same window came up. It supposedly has something to do with the fact that there is no installation path for Reader 8.1.2. How do I get rid of Reader 8.1.2 and then subsequently install reader 9?

I downloaded Reader 9 not long ago, and have been having problems similar to those other people have posted. I thought the problem had to do with two expired free trials (Acrobat and Photoshop), because when I would attempt to open a document, the registration page of Acrobat would appear, then vanish along with the document! I figured the problem would go away if I uninstalled the expired free trials. Not at all! Now, when I try to read PDFs on line, I get an error message saying "unknown file type," and I'm redirected to Microsoft's page for information about Adobe Reader...which is supposedly already on my computer. Did I accidentally delete some essential element when I got rid of the remnants of Acrobat and Photoshop?
Yikes! I wish I understood more about computers!

  • Cannot uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8...keep getting "Error 1402" message..

Hello. I use Windows XP Home Edition. I am trying to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8 so I can then install version 9, but I am not able to uninstall 7.0.8. During the uninstallation process, I get the following error message:
*****Error 1402. Could not open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\Programmable.

I went to another forum and asked for some help there...the guy there gave me some steps to follow, and I did so. Here they are:
    1. Deleted "Adobe Reader Speed Launch" shortcut from Startup folder.
    2. Deleted the Adobe folder (which contained 2 other folders: Acrobat 6.0 and Acrobat 7.0) from C:\My Computer\Local Disk\Program Files. I had to use a separate program (provided by my helper who gave me these steps to follow) called "Unlocker" to accomplish this, since, originally, when I tried to delete this Adobe folder, I would get a message saying "Cannot delete pdfshell.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." Unlocker solved this problem, and was able to delete the Adobe folder.
    3. Rebooted machine
    4. Ran CCleaner's registry cleaner
    5. Rebooted machine again
    6. Tried using CCleaner's "Uninstall" utility to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8. When I tried this, I got the same "Error 1402" message as listed above.
    7. Backed-up my registry
    8. Tried to just delete this particular offending key using RegEdit...but when I tried, I got a message saying this:
    *****ERROR DELETING KEY
Cannot delete Programmable: Error while deleting key.*****
I really need some assistance with this...at the moment, Adobe Reader 7.0.8 still seems to be installed on my machine (it's still listed in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, and it still shows up in CCleaner's Uninstall Utility)...despite the fact that, as I mentioned above, I used Unlocker to delete the Adobe folder from Program Files. Also, at this moment, no pdf files will open on my machine...so this is quite an urgent situation. Does anyone know what else I should do now? Is there something I need to do regarding the "Permissions" for this particular registry key?
    I appreciate anyone's assistance...thanks.

Hi..I went ahead and ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I used it to remove "Adobe Reader 7.0.8." After doing this, I checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel to make sure that AR 7.0.8 was gone, and it thankfully was. Then I deleted the WICU, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, rebooted, and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.0. When I tried this, I got the following error message (this occurred during the time when the installer was "writing system registry values"):
    *****ADOBE READER 9 INSTALLER INFORMATION
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\ProgID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
What should I do now? Do I need to do something about the "permissions" for this key?
    Thanks to anyone with advice...

  • I uninstalled Adobe Reader X to address a problem and cannot reinstall the software.

I uninstalled Adobe Reader X to address a problem and now I am unable to reinstall the software. Ideas?

OK - you can download the standalone installed for Adobe Reader directly from the Adobe FTP site.
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.2/en_US/
Save the executable file onto your computer and then double-click on it - the installer should run as normal.
If you want to install a different language, go to this address instead:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.2/

  • Even though I uninstalled Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash Player, I still cannot open PDF files.

Even though I uninstalled Adobe Reader & Adobe Flash Player and reinstalled the latest versions, I still cannot open PDF files.  They always try to open in Word 2010.

This is a Windows setting. In Windows 7 you can change it through the Control Panel: Either Start>Default Programs  or Start>Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set Associations
Find .pdf and change it (click Change Program) from Microsoft Word to Adobe Reader. Browse to find the Reader application if necessary: Program Files>Adobe>Reader11>Reader>AcroRd.exe

  • Do I uninstall adobe reader when I install Acrobat?

Should I uninstall adobe reader when I install Acrobat? or is there a reader program embedded in acrobat?

    Hi Bill@VT,
The application installing 2nd (or later) always asks "whether the user wants to provide default PDF ownership or not" during the installation. (Please also refer to Image attached)
I would like to understand, if there is any common use case where the system decides by itself about the PDF owner when both Acrobat & Reader are installed.
    Thanks.

  • Uninstalled Adobe Reader 11.0.0

    For Adobe
I have an iMac with OS 10.8.5 and I'm using Safari web browser. After I had INSTALLED Adobe Reader 11.0.0 I have experienced problems on several web sites where either side can not be displayed or may not be printed. Since I also have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and use it without problems on another iMac I decided to uninstalled Adobe Reader 11.0.0. I have moved it to the trash. I have emptied the trash and I have restarted the iMac. I've set Acrobat 9 Pro to be the program to use when loading web sites and I have reset Safari. Nevertheless, getting the message Adobe Reader blocked on this site.
When I go into Safarie, settings, security, manage site settings appears Adobe Reader 11.0.0 still in the list of Internet accessories.
I think that there still must be something on my iMac? How do I get it thrown out?

    Try this:
    Go to Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Locate the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files.
Copy them to a flash drive or other removable media, and remove that media so it cannot be accessed by OS X.
Trash the original files from that folder.
    Empty the trash.
Relaunch Safari and see if it helps with PDFs.
Open Acrobat 9 and see if it still works as it did.
IF both work, you can "dump" the plugins from the removable media.

  • Can't update or uninstall Adobe Reader 9 on Windows 7

I keep getting a message to update Adobe Reader, but when I try I get a message:
'Adobe uninstall update failed could not open hkey-local-machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run\optionalcomponants\imail'
I tried also uninstalling it through the control panel. Shows it uninstalling with a progress bar and then the same error message pops up and the progress bar goes in reverse till finally there is no uninstalling of the Adobe Reader.
Is there some other way to uninstall and reinstall Abobe Reader? Are there instructions available somewhere to uninstall Adobe Reader manually which include the registry keys to unistall for Adobe Reader 9? I have seen step by step instructions for earlier versions, but I don't know if those would be the same for later versions like Adobe Reader 9.

Can you please try the following:
    1. Download Microsoft's SubinACL tool from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe -4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en
    2. Install the same by double clicking on the "subinacl.msi" just downloaded.
    3. Open Command Prompt window through the Run Dialog Box (Vista/Win7Start -> type "cmd". In the section above you should be able to see a command.exe. Right click on the same and select Run As Administrator)
    4. In the Command Prompt window, type in the following commands:
        i. cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools" (Hit Enter)
       ii. subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents /grant=administrators=f /grant=SYSTEM=f /grant=USERS=f /grant="Creator Owner"=f (Hit Enter)
Try updating Reader now, it should work.

  • Unable to uninstall adobe reader 8.16 on windows xp

I wanted to uninstal adobe reader 8 after finding I could use adobe reader 9, I uninstalled adobe reader and ended up having to restore my system after a server problem with the new software putting adobe 8 back. I tried to uninstall it again after switching off the machine for a while for the serer to recover, I still cant uninstall 8 even after installing adobe reader 9.

I tried on the day to navigate the adobe site on dial up, adobe should cater to people on a budget if they are going to service us with a free reader. Personally I would prefer another program to decode a pdf document that does just that - without all the other stuff I will never use. Today I found I may be able to uninstall adobe 8 by running kb404307, I couldn't even find a download page for the fix. Once again I got frustrated with my pc and adobe.
