Cannot Install Safari Beta

I updated to the 10.4.10. After the update Safari would no longer open and would crash every time. I deleted Safari and then tried to reinstall Safari (the beta) or any of the other Safari's (1.0, 1.2, 2.0.1) I have a 1.2 GHz Ibook /512 with 10.4.10. Anyone have any ideas?

Safari crashes possibly because you are using incompatible versions of either Safari Plus (for cookies) and/or SafariStand. They both have updated versions compatible with 10.4.10 and Safari 3.
Important to get Safari 2.0.4 back on your machine before you can update to Beta 3. Also, important you update any plug-ins or InputManager items for compatibility purposes with 10.4.10 and/or Safari 3.
To reinstall Safari 2.0.4:
Have a look at this Apple article for installing other software, including Safari, from the Tiger DVD - see the section titled More custom reinstallation options with Mac OS X 10.4.
Other Steps
Move the Safari.pkg file in the HD>Library>Receipts folder to the trash.
As a precaution, prior to reinstalling Safari, move your Safari folder, found via the Finder in your Home Folder>Library to the Desktop. It has your bookmarks, history etc. Once the reinstall is completed, move the folder back to its original location writing over the newly created folder.
Remember too, the version of Safari you install will be specific to the Version on your installer DVD. Therefore, run Software Update and see if Safari updates appear. If not, reapply the 10.4.10 combined update to bring Safari up to the current version.
"Repair Permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when you are finished.

  • "You cannot install Safari on this volume-" message.

    Hi,
I just downloaded Safari 4 (running the Safari 4 Public Beta currently). However, when I go through the installation dialog, when I arrive at the screen to select the installation disk, I cannot choose my hard drive (startup volume) and get the following message:
"You cannot install Safari on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
Obviously my machine is compliant with the minimum requirements for Safari 4, so what could be the issue here?
    Thanks,
    Tom.

    Then try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Cannot install safari 4.0.3 on mac os x 10.6

hey i'm having trouble installing safari 4.0.3 so that i can use itunes 9. when i open the install package just before installation, it gives me a warning saying that i cannot install safari 4.0.3 because i need to run mac os x 10.5.8 even though i'm running snow leopard. called apple but they cannot help since my warranty expired 3 days ago. PLEASE HELP!!

    I see,
If you right-click on the Quicktime app, and choose "Get Info" check to see if it's Version 10.0 if it is, its Quicktime X.
I just checked, and the final "Gold Master" developer build of Snow Leopard was 10A432 so you are using an older build, and I really think you should get the final release - otherwise you won't be able to run Software Update in the future, and you might run into problems with your version.

  • A new round of Junk Mail after installing Safari Beta 3.0

In the days since installing and religiously using Safari 3.0 beta on my MacBook Pro with 10.4.9, I am seeing a huge increase in Mail being sent to the Junk folder via Automatic Junk mail filtering. I have not changed any Mail settings. This is mail from sites that I get mail from all the time without it going to Junk Mail Folder. So something has changed, drastically.
I do have the mail Junk filter set to trust my ISP Junk Mail headings (Earthlink). I will turn it off and see if that changes anything. Perhaps Earthlink is doing something new.
But if not Earthlink, I can only wonder if anything changed due to Safari 3.0 install.
Anyone else having this type of new problem?
MacBook Pro 15 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I've had exactly the same problem with junk mail after installing Safari 3. No other recent changes.
So far, retraining on received e-mails does not seem to be taking; good e-mails keep going into junk folder.

  • YOU CANNOT INSTALL SAFARI 1.2 ON THIS VOLUME  ??????

WHEN I TRY TO INSTALL SAFARI1.2 I GET THIS MESSAGE
YOU CANNOT INSTALL SAFARI1.2 ON THIS VOLUME. THIS SYSTEM CANNOT USE THIS SOFTWARE.
    WHY IS THIS HAPENING????
IMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   [email protected]

You are likely to have a newer version of Safari installed already. So the Updater will refuse to install the older version. A requirement for specific system version does not automatically include all above releases as well. It says it require 10.4.2 and not "10.4.2 or above".
Safari version 1.2 was for Panther (Mac OS X 10.3.x) only.

  • You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.

This is the problem I run into when trying to install Safari 3.1. Have tried several times with fresh downloads. What's worse is that I deleted the version of Safari I had prior to this, so now I have no Safari whatsoever. Anybody out there know how to go around this? I do have the newest version of Leopard.

See my answer to your other post.

  • "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."

I am trying to install Safari 5.05 for Leopard, but during the installation process, the error message above appears when selecting the volume to install it on.
Apparently the minimum OS requirement for Safari 5 on Mac is 10.5.8, which my Mac has.  My Mac's processor is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (the default for one of the Intel Macs that came out a few years ago), which should be good enough for Safari 5.  I am attempting to install via an admin account.  There is nothing in Apple Software Update relating to Safari (the current working version of Safari that my Mac has is 4.05).
    Any help please?

So, on that page I should click on the Download button to the right?  It just takes me to http://www.apple.com/safari/download/, where the "Safari 5.0.5 for Leopard" is what I initially tried, and is what resulted in the aforementioned error message during the installation process.  See below for screenshots of the installer error message and my Mac's details, respectively:
I also tried the Snow Leopard and Tiger versions of Safari just in case those worked, but obviously I didn't have the correct Mac version, so I couldn't even begin the installation process.

This isn't necessarily true. Some third party apps installed with Apple's Installer.app still place installer pkg files in /Library/Receipts/ & if present Snow Leopard's permissions repair still references them for correct permissions of the associated files.
It won't help solve this issue but if any of these pkg files are there it does not indicate a problem & they should not be removed.

  • Cannot install Safari 4

    Hi-
I have been trying to re-install Safari onto my computer, but every time I try, it tells me that I can't run the program unless I have OS 10.5.8 or higher. The thing is, I have upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard, and my computer says it has 10.6.1 installed. What is going on and how on earth can I fix it?
    Thanks

    HI,
Reinstall the Safari app from the Applications folder on the SL disk.
Insert the SL disk. Open the Optional Installs.pkg folder. The Installer will start... you may need to click the disclosure triangle to open the Appliations folder.
When you are done, to the Apple Menu and run Software Updates. It's very important to keep your system software up to date.
    Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Cannot install Safari update 1.3.1

I just need a clear answer about installing Safari updates. There are 500+ posts about this. I could read for a full month and be so confused.
I have a G5. Run version 10.3.9. Safari is 1.2 (125). Tried to update to 1.3.1. Computer will not let me install.
What is the correction for this?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Ann,
Yes, there are a lot of posts on 1.3.1.
Via the Finder, go to your /Library/Receipts folder and make sure there is no 1.3.1 Safari.pkg file. If there is, move it to the trash.
To upgrade, you'll first need to apply the 10.3.9 combined update. This updates Safari from 1.2 to 1.3. While the update is running, do not use the computer for any other tasks (good upgrade strategy). Once completed and the computer restarts, "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
Next, apply the 1.3.1 update, followed by the 1.3.2 update. Once finished, again "repair permissions".

  • Cannot install Safari 4 on Mac OSX 10.4.6

Installer gives error message; says the update requires 10.4.11.
    What's up?
I had beta running fine. Then had system problems and did a clean install. Now can't install 4 or beta.

    Hi
Go to the Apple Menu and Select About this Mac. Are you using 10.4.11 or some other version of OS X Tiger? If the latter, go to Software Update in the Apple Menu and update your system to the latest updates. After each install process continue going to Software Update until there are no more updates available.
When complete this process, via the Finder, open Disk Utility found in your Applications>Utilities folder. There, highlight your HD on the left, then select "repair permissions".
When complete, rerun the Safari 4 installer.

  • Cannot uninstall Safari Beta - using OS 10.4.11 - help

Hi - I was having trouble with my current version of Safari, so I accidentally downloaded the new beta version, which doesn't work on my MAC (I have OS 10.4.11). So, I tried downloading Safari 3, but it wouldn't install because it said I had a newer version installed. So, I tried uninstalling the beta version, but it blocks it and tells me that I need at least OS 10.5 to use this version. Now I do not have ANY working versions of Safari and can't proceed. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I have the security updates from 5/12/09 and 2/14/09 plus others before that. I normally check software for updates weekly and download any available.

  • Cannot Install Safari Extensions

    Greetings,
Trying to install an extension on my Safari Version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1)
An extension installed successfully, but after Safari restart its all gone.
Does not matter which extension and how many,
After install I can see extensions in Safari Preferences window, but not after a restart.
I can see newly installed extensions in ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ folder, the folder has correct permissions and owner.
Even though there are extensions in ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ , Safari does not "sees" it after a restart.
It seems like this problem is specific to my PC, as I have checked it with other people - they don't experience it.
    Please help !

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.
