Standard problem in ML.. apple do not seem to want to recognise.
Reboot the TC .. if that fails restart the whole network in correct order.. modem.. router/TC... clients.. with 2min gap.
There are other suggestions like changing the password.. all they do is the same as reboot.
Read C12.. most quoted Q in pondini website history. This is asked 10 times a day.

Here is another way to get a useful utility in ML.. rather than toyland version.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Cannot install LR5 due to not having Windows 7.

I purchased an update of LR5 and cannot load it because I do not have Windows 7. Is there anything I can do other than buying a new computer?

From what I conclude, it is not an upgrade to 4.4, but a stand alone program that all of a sudden needs windows 7, which I do not have. After downloading windows 7 test program to see if I can have windows 7 and it's compatibility, it turns out my machine is not compatible or many issues with warning symbols. I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop with 12GB ram and 1TB hard drive, windows 8, with NVIDIA G Force video card just so I can play with LR5. All I am saying is, if it's an upgrade, fine, don't change the operating system requirements. Make it a stand alone program. Then, previous owners of LRxx have the option of buying LR5 at a reduced rate rather than paying full price. Then everyone is aware of the incompatibilities.
Thx for listening to my rant and I appreciate Adobe to offer to repurchase the software. I just hope I can re-load LR4.4 on this new laptop and accept LR5 without having to pay again for LR4.4.

    You're welcome Rémi,
Unfortunately, purchasing software, much like anything else you buy online, is pretty much on the buyer to beware.  The vendor cannot know the intended use, whether the software is being purchased for the machine at hand, or another machine, or as a gift for someone else.  They provide a list of system requirements in the product pages but don't intrude into your machine to determine whether or not it is a suitable match.
It looks like Jeff might have provided a reasonable recourse for you.  Hopefully you won't run into a problem there.

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

Id also like to know if Powerpc software will be supported? I have C&C Generals on disc but it doesnt run now mavericks is installed?!
    Annoying!

Regarding time machine, it probably took a full backup after you put mavericks on. To investigate, open Console, select "All Messages" and type "backup" (without the quotes). It will then only show you backup-related messages. If you're not sure how to read those, copy them and paste them into a reply here; we can investigate the situation.
I don't know anything about your PPC software issue, sorry.

  • Safari cannot install profile due to unknown error

    hello
I was browsing a couple of sites today, and during browsing, i received a message saying "safari cannot install profile due to unknown error" , i am not to sure which of the sites gave this message, and browsing over them again does not give this message. I am using an iPad 2 16gb wifi. when going to General -> Settings , i dont have a profiles tab, so am not sure what profile it was trying to load. i also have nothing changed in my settings that i can see, should i be worried, that there is some spyware or malware loaded?. can an ipad get any kind of bad things through a profile install?. i have looked online but cannot see an answer.

  • Cannot select local disk in Time Machine - New Lion Install

I wiped my iMac with 10.6, logged in then immediately installed Lion.  When launching Time Machine and "selecting a disk" I cannot select any disks, none are present and it wants to search for a Time Capsule only.  Please help.

    Hi a:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I am preaching, but +"wiping/erasing a HD"+ should be reserved for true disasters. That is a Windows process.
Now, trying to help (I treasure my own photos - a lot), go to your home folder (~pictures). If something called iPhoto library is there, highlight it, open Time Machine, and then restore it.
If that does not fix the problem, try posting in the iPhoto forum. There are some real experts with iPhoto problems that may be able to help.

  • After clean install of mavericks - i cannot restore my backups on time machine (Mountain Lion)

the installation went perfect but during set up, mavericks could not find my time machine on external hard drive. i found a post saying that mavericks creates time machine files that conflict with my latest back up.
i can access my last back up using finder but that doesn't help get my applications/programs back. i've tried using migration assistant and it cannot find my time machine either.
does anyone know how to fix this?

'depeting' is a typo for 'deleting'.  I don't seem to be able to edit this out above

  • Cannot re-install OS after failed Time Machine restore

Ok, so I seem to have run into a problem that I've never encountered before and I don't know how to go about solving it.
I have a first gen intel 20" iMac which had been happily running Snow Leopard. I was attempting to restore to a Time Machine backup and, at about 98% completion (or so) this failed. Spinning beach ball. No progress even after leaving it there overnight. Not knowing what else to do, I restarted.
So now, I get kernel panics whenever I try to restart. I very briefly get the flashing system question mark, then the solid happy apple logo, then the grey screen telling me that I need to retart my Mac - kernel panic.
Ok...I got my SL disc and chucked it in there and figured I would just re-install SL and start from scratch - there's nothing on this computer that I need.
Held down C - no go...same behaviour. Held down S - no luck - same thing. It was at this point that I'm starting to think that the keyboard isn't being recognized at this stage of the game. As a test of this, the caps lock key does not toggle on/off when I press it while I am restarting the mac...I think it would if the keyboard was functional at this time. Soooo, if I can't use the keyboard to tell the computer to boot from the CD, what do I do?
    Any help very much appreciated.
    All the best

It is a long shot, but you can try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).
As baltwo mentioned, the keyboard is queried very early in the startup process, even before the Mac's firmware tries to a find startup volume it can access to load the OS from. (This is necessary to enable the command + C or option key startup modes, zapping PRAM, or anything else that happens before the OS loads & takes control of the machine.)
So unless the keyboard itself is defective, your USB ports are fried, or the Mac's firmware has been corrupted, you should be able to get it to respond to these commands. In theory, resetting the SMC should not make any difference, but it is about the only thing you can try that doesn't involve the keyboard itself.

  • Cannot restore iPhoto Library from Time Machine after clean install

I was experiencing various problems with my MBP and wiped the hard drive after meticulously backing up everything with Time Machine, or manually. I reinstalled everything. I was relying on Time Machine to restore my photos and events in iPhoto. When I select "Browse Backups" in iPhoto, I can see all of my backups, but can select none of them. Any ideas to save a decade worth of photos?

  • Hard drive issues due to Time Machine backup? Can't source the problem.

Last night my computer began to run extremely slow. All apps simultaneously lagged (spinning wheel of death), but then began working again after about 0.5-1 minute. This whole-system crash repeated about every 10 minutes a total of probably 5-6 times. The last time all apps stopped functioning and (CPU usage of iTunes was 85-95% for some reason (viewed using activity monitor), I am guessing due to its use of multiple hard drives as my music is stored on an external drive) and my computer just shut off after about 3 minutes of completely stalling. Rebooted computer and was left with an EXTREMELY slow system; opening up the quick menu (forgot the name, button on the top row of keyboard) for booting applications took 2-3 minutes. I eventually started disk utility, verified disk. It said I needed to repair disk by restarting my computer while holding down [Command] R message. Made sure i had a backup (at the time of that backup my computer was experiencing the problems above, 11:21pm), so I restarted whilst holding command R. Booted into the OSX utilities, retried the disk repair, received the "Disk Utility cannot repair this drive: back up as many files as you can..." message. Erased/reformatted my internal hard drive, and ran "repair disk" again; disk utility found no problems with the disk. Restored my files to my internal hard drive using OSX utilities (using the full system restore of the 11:21pm backup), and left it running while ran some errands. When I came back to look at my computer, it had attempted startup and crashed with the "kernel error" or whatever where all the text is on the left of the screen. It said something about not being able to find "disk2", which I believe was the disk containing OSX utilities (as veiwed in disk utility while running OSX utilities). Force shutdown, reboot with command R, wiped my internal drive again. Decided to only install a fresh version of OSX in an attempt to scan for viruses (using Sophos Antivirus, running scan as I am typing this), as the slow behavior of my computer had been very strange and began almost instantaneously (seemed like a virus/malware). No threats found so far with Sophos (scanning all my external drives too to source the problem in time machine backups), but I have deduced that there is something wrong with the most current Time machine backup, as it re-established the "problem" (easily fixed once drive is erased using OSX utilities) with my hard drive once I restored it to my internal hard drive. I am wondering (if it is not a virus) if I will need to repeat this whole process with every time machine backup to find where it went wrong, or if i can somehow pinpoint the problem easier. Will all of my Time Machine backups be corrupted now? Why would the Time Machine backup affect the state of the hard drive (does in need to be repaired or not)? Very confused at these random problems. If it is a virus (I will post the results of the Sophos antivirus scan as soon as it is finished), can I remove it from the backup and then restore it with no problems? What do you suggest I do? Will it make a difference to restore the most recent backup (11:21pm) using Migration assistant now that I am running a fresh install of OSX mountain lion? How can I source and eliminate the problem?
