Cannot install Solution Center on 8.1

I was getting a message that there was a problem with the Solution Center. I uninstalled it, but have not been able to reinstall it.  I thought maybe the Printer Install Wizard might help,  but cannot install that either. The printer is getting to be  about 7 to 8 years old, but still works great. The 8.1 is an upgrade from Windows 8 . When I select  download, nothing happens.

  • Problem with installing Solution Center for a HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer - C309g

    Hi folks,
I've searched many threads and found some directions to remedy this, tried them and have had no luck.
I'm running Windows 7.  All updates are current.  When I bought the printer I installed the software (on Windows 7 OS) from the disc and everything was fine.  Fast forward a year and Solution Center stopped working.
Uninstalled all HP software to reinstall.  I was only able to reinstall HP Update.  I was able to load the basic drivers for print and scan, but not the entire software suite including Solution Center.  The installation stops abruptly after "installing updates".
I even downloaded and tried "PS_AIO_06_C309g-m_USW_Full_Win_enu_140_175" and got the same result as the original installation disc.
What can I do with my printer (HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer - C309g)???
    Thanks,
    Alex

  • Can't install Solution Center on Windows 7 64 bit to PSC 5140 printer shared from XP computer.

I recenntly got a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit installed.  I have a HP Photosmart C5140 All-in-One printer installed on a Windows XP desktop as a shared printer.  I am able to print to the printer from my Windows 7 laptop without a problem.  I want to install the HP Solution Center app so I can scan, etc from my laptop.  When I try to install the Solution Center on the laptop, it starts the install process fine but then gets to the dialog where it wants to know how the printer is connected.  The only options it provides is direct connected (USB) or network connected.  I choose the network connected option.  It asks for the IP address of the printer which isn't available since it is installed on the XP machine using USB.  I have tried using the standard MIcrosoft fully qualified network name (can't remember the technical term right now) for the XP computer where the printer is installed (i.e. \\computer_name\printer_name) but it still won't allow me to continue with the Solution Center install.  Possibly this type of install is not possible?  I thought I did something similar a year or so ago with a Vista laptop I had.

More than likely, you are receiving the access denied error because there may not be a HomeGroup in place.
To handle networks securely with Windows 7, Microsoft took a different approach.  A HomeGroup essentially creates a trust among all the devices in that home group.  If a device is not in that homegroup, then that system will essentially be denied access.
Click on Install a printer on a home network to get basic steps to install a printer in a network environment.
Click on HomeGroup: recommended links to get more information about Home Groups, including setting one up.

  • Cannot download Solution Center for Off Jet 6500 Wireless since going to Windows 8.1

I get a failure message and am unable to download HP full feature software (a.k.a. the "solution center") for my HP Officejet 6500 Wireless on my Aspire E1-571-688 Laptop.   The solution center was successfully downloaded when I got the laptop in August 2013.  It was running fine until I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1.
When I discovered that the solution center would not run, I removed the printer and driver software beofre trying to reinstall.  When trying to get the Solution Center back, I can't get past the download step because during download it "fails".  I was able to download "drivers only" through the "add a printer" option, and I do have printing capability, however I am unable to use the scan function from the laptop (or directly from the 6500).
Weird that I can't get the scan function to work on the unit itself (I get the "no scan options" message when trying to do so) as I have confirmed mutliple times that the printer is successfully connected to the correct network.
    Help please!  Thank you

    Geo,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
You will not have access to the full features of the printer software until you manage to install the Full Feature Software.  Scanning is one of those functions.
The initial Connection to the Internet is indeed part of it -- you need a reliable, clean, consistant connection that will allow you to download the full data file.  Your connection may be dropping out part way through.
You may need to upgrade your network drivers after the Upgrade to Windows 8.1 .  There are other issues can can plague a system after the Upgrade, most are well documented at this point.  You can check with your system's Forum to what others are saying.
Basic Drivers only are much smaller in size -- just a few MBs.
    Random Thoughts..
You need to resolve the network issues so you can download the full software.
You might have a friend download the file onto his computer and transfer the file to your system using a USB stick.  This does not fix your network problems but it does solve at least the issue of not being able to get a hold of the installation package.
You might try taking the computer to a friend's house -- if the issue is not within your computer's network setup, then the Upgrade may have "upset" the relationship between the computer and your home network.

  • Windows 8 Pro volume license version does not have "Add Features" therefore cannot install media center.

As the title describes, Windows 8 Pro installed from the Volume License ISO does not have the Add Features wizard, and as such it appears to be impossible to install the Windows Media Pack.
I've consulted with Live Chat support who cannot provide an answer to this, they simply said it should be done through "Add Features" which does not exist.
A similar thread was answered by saying install from a Retail disc and upgrade. However this is hardly a solution, paying for an additional Windows license when you already have a volume license.
Can anyone, preferably MSFT, provide a proper answer on how Windows Media Center can be install on Windows 8 Pro which is volume licensed. If it can't be done can some reason or justification be given as to why it can't be done.
Please see previous thread here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itproinstall/thread/d63b46e5-c542-4dbe-be41-c46cda440723

I would like to pile on here and say "ditto" to all of the above. you have a licensed product and they don't even support the MSFT version of a DVD player. Nah, no one EVER has to play a older technology in corporate America due to training or presentation
(A funny clip of a movie before a ppt)? Nah.
But, I'd like to add a warning to MSFT senior management.  I know you want to force everyone to use YOUR cloud just like apple did to theirs.  Wont' work.  Some of us refuse to sign onto a web site and let you track all of our moves... some
distrust the cloud (Target anyone?) etc etc.  All good points, now for the out of the park.  The Harvard Business Review some years ago did a study on long term profitability of a company (you have to have a profit to stay in business).  The
most highly correlated factor: Customer Sat.  Sorry, but I don't see customer sat in all of these entries.
IF you made your product easier to use and NOT have to have a IT support person to move from a small workgroup to a server configuration (and PS, what in the heck to you get from a workgroup?  File Replication, Remote access to outlook files as one
does via exchange?  Really, every computer is in a workgoup any more, so there is ZERO value add in a workgroup on a MSFDT platform, however there is great value, even with a couple of users, in an Exchange/Windows Server Platform -- so why so you make
it so damned hard to implement one... Difficult for one to implement in an SMB environment (so lets just kill SBS) but growth from small business is where your growth is... just like IBM did before you, MSFT only appears to be listening to Fortune 500 it execs,
but I really digressed)  This is just one more pain in the butt to use MSFT in the small environment.  So what is the rational business decision?  Yes one can pick MSFT but with Zero value add in the workgroup, why not them other guys (who may
be apple, or android or even some Linux platforms)
SO you want to continue to mil the cash cow, listen to your forums.
One more note on the STORE.  Lets say you do pick a competitive product in the windows store.  Have them been verified they don't contain malware like MSFT products?  I believe the answer here is "NO"  So this adds another layer of complexity
and security risk on the corporate problem of "How do I play a DVD on my laptop"  I am sure none of you has ever played a movie on your laptop flying for business?
So, MSFT management, let me paraphrase the posts above:  "WHY don't you support our business needs"
And remember, people buy to have their needs met.....  (IBM Planned Sales Call)
If you don't meet small business needs, someone will... and that too is fraught with risk.
(For example of how to make computers easy to use in SMB I reference SBS, the Systems Management Interface tool in IBM Unix, or best of all, the AS/400.... something even Ellison couldn't kill, though he tried.

    Hello,
Try the below steps to uninstall the existing printer entries and software.
//Note: Make sure the printer is not connected to the PC through USB.
press Win key + R  to open up an RUN window.
in RUN window, type in  %temp%
a Temp window would open, and you'd see a list of folder name begining with 7z...
Open the one, that has the printer name  in it, and locate for the folder name UTIL > CCC ,
then locate for Uninstall L3.bat and double click on it to run it.
After the uninstallation is completed, Restart the PC.

  • ERROR Cannot Install Entertainment Cent

Hey guys when I try to install the entertainment center from the Audio/EntCntr file on the creative cd...it throws this error message
    <img alt="error.bmp" src="http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/0/6/265525/error.bmp">
I have no idea as of what to do, I really want to install this so I can use my remote control.... I saw that some other people have had this problem, but I did not see any posted solutions...Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!Message Edited by Jason-CL on -7-2006 04:0 PM

Are you just exploring the CD and manually trying to run the file install or do you boot up the creative cd and select a CUSTOM install then from there install the program you require.
As i remember you MUST install using the CD Custom feature if you want to add programs at a later date.
If you have the latest web drivers installed and the above fails, try a complete uninstall of the creative drivers. Reboot PC and start again with the original CD and install all the features you require. When you got all you want working sweet then update to the newer web drivers.Message Edited by Pawpaw on -7-200609:38 PM

Two problems. 1) Upgraded Dell 1737 Notebook from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 64b. HP Solution Center no longer works. Have HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a printer hardwired into router. Downloaded new printer drivers, still cannot print. 2) Cannot get Solution Center to execute. Message says can't find "SolutionCenter.msi". No Win7 upgrade for Solution Center on HP site.

    Hello ReallyFreeBob,
Lets first try Uninstalling the existing printer software using the listed steps..
Press the keys Win + R, a RUN box would open. Type in the command %TEMP% in the box and hit OK button.
A temp folder would open, locate for the folder name begning with 7z..... , open it , then do the following ..
Locate for folder "UTILS" and double click to open it. Locate for folder "CCC" and double click to open it. Locate for file Uninstall_L3.bat and double click to Run it. Follow the onscreen instructions

  • Why does the solution center prompt for cd every time?

My HP 8500 constantl;y prompts for me to insert the CD each time I try to scan. I have lost the CD, and just paid $10 to get a new one, but it is very annoying! How do I stop this?

    Hi Tom,
There is something missing in your Scanning software.
The Solution Center is like a dog with a bone about missing stuff.
    Something to try/consider:
See the Solution on this Post - it has the information that might help you correct your Solution Center woes.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/cannot-open-solution-center/m-p/110924...
If, for some reason, you cannot download new software for your printer as outlined in the above Post,
and you really do not want to wait for your new CD, then you can Uninstall the Solution Center Software from your computer.  See the warning below.
    Uninstalling your Solution Center:
BE AWARE: If you elect to uninstall Solution Center to make it stop annoying you...Your printer might still work after you reboot and let the computer try and install some standard drivers - HOWEVER, it will only work with whatever "bare bones" drivers are available on your system.  It might not work at all.  It depends on your Operating system, whether there are enough HP standard drivers for your printer to run the basic printer HP8500 functions, and whether things get tangled up when you uninstall the printer software.  It could go well, or it could become a nightmare and you could be more unhappy than you are right now.
The very best scenerio:  You find at the Solution Center link a way to download the Full Featured Software for your HP8500 printer and it fixes your scanning error.
    I hope this helps.

  • SOLUTION: Get Win 7 Printer Drivers/HP Solution Center to Work on Windows 8

Took me some time to figure it out, but I got it to work.
    First of all, the preliminaries:
I have an HP dv9700t laptop running the 64-bit version of Windows 8 Pro RTM (not the preview, but I assume it will work on Preview as well).  My printer is an HP Photosmart C7280.  If you have a different printer, it is possible that something similar to how I solved my problem will help you, especially by running your installation files in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode.
Windows 8 does come with stock C7280 printer drivers that work by going into Control Panel>Devices and Printers>Add A Printer, but there's only limited functionality with those.  As such, I wanted to run the HP installation files to have increased functionality.
Unfortunately, when I ran the full installation file from HP for my printer, there was no "Install a Printer" button, or any of the other usual buttons.  There was only an "Exit" button.
Here's how to get it to run and install properly.
Right-click on the HP Full Installation file, then Properties>Compatibility>then check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then select "Windows 7" in the dropdown box, then Click "OK".
Run the installation file as you normally would in Windows 7.
I tried this two ways.....the first while connected via USB cable.  It worked just fine with no errors.
I also tried it with the printer connected to my network via WiFi.  Ran into some problems.
The installation program would detect my printer just fine, and I clicked "Next" or "OK" or whatever the prompt was to install the printer.  The installation would hang on "Reply from SNMP" (or something similar) and it would list the IP address of my printer.  I waited, waited, waited for an hour, and it wouldn't get past this.  Not to worry.
Proceed with normal installation until you get to the "Reply from SNMP" message and the installation stops responding.
Enter the Task Manager with CTRL-ALT-DEL.  You'll see an entry in the "Apps" for the HP installation program....LEAVE THIS ALONE.
Below the "Apps" list you will see the "Background Processes" list.  In this list is something along the lines of "HP Network UI", or something similar, consuming a significant amount of CPU.  Highlight this entry, then click, "End Task" at the bottom.
The "SNMP" window will close and your installation program will then finish normally and your printer/fax/scanner will be properly installed.  HP Solution Center works normally, as does printing, scanning, etc.
Will the next person who uses this give some feedback and also answer some questions for me so I can update this post with more specific information?
Please let me know what the exact "SNMP" message is when the installation hangs.  Please also let me know the exact name of the "HP Network UI" background process is, as well as the HP Installation app name.
    Hopefully this will help you.
    This question was solved.

thanks for the solution. I have an HP Photosmart D110a wireless printer. Windows 8 installed a generic printer driver that worked fine for printing but I lost all functionality to the scanner of the device.
I tried to follow your instructions. I do get an error at some point when the software installer tries to talk to the printer and it gives an error message. It finds the printer OK but stalls. The error message is different and merely reports that there is a problem, no further details. There is indeed a background task "HP Network UI" or similar but ending this task doesn't do anything on my system. The Network UI task ends and the error message stays open. I ended a couple more background tasks but it would not go anywhere.
I then uninstalled the entire package, unplugged the printer, turned its wireless feature off and reinstalled the software in Windows 7 compatibility mode. When it asked to plug in the printer to the USB it finds it right away, the installation continues and is almost finished when it stalls again. This time it reports that it has a problem again and needs to uninstall. Still with the error message and installer open I open the installed "Solution Center" and I can find the printer fine (it actually lists two devices, one being grayed out). It initially gave me an error message when I tried to scan something, but ignored the error. Eventually the scanner worked as intended. I force ended all installer tasks in the task manager and the Solution Center works fine and does all tasks it did under Windows 7, now in Windows 8.
    thanks again for the post

Problem with Photosmart C6280.  After a lot of other problems, this one has stopped me in my tracks.

HP Photosmart Essential does open and works fine

  • Cannot install HP Photosmart Solution Center for C410a All-In-One

    Computer: Dell Inspiron 15R
    O/S: Windows 8.1, 64-bit
Printer: HP Photosmart Premium  Fax e-All-in-One Printer C410a
This computer had a version of the HP Solution Center successfully installed in the past, but we started having problems with the computer to the point where we lost all the Microsoft Office suite.  After repairing/reinstalling that, I repaired all the other Programs in the Control Panel Unstall page.  However, I decided to uninstall all HP software using the Control Panel Unstall Program.  I rebooted the computer and attempted to reinstall the HP Solution Center by downloading the latest software from the HP website.  The software will not reinstall.
When the installer screen appears, it has 3 buttons: Install, Readme, Exit.
When I hit "Install", a popup window indicates "The system cannot find the file specified."
So, I cancel out of it and hit "Readme".  A different popup window appears indicates:
    Windows cannot find
    'C\Users\Karen\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS3838\setup\Readme\autorun.infla...\Readme.hml'
Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
I hit "Exit" and the installation window closes.
The "\Readme\autorun.infla...\Readme.hml" message bothered me so I looked into the 7zS3838 directory.  There I found the Autorun setup information file.  Under the "[LaunchPad.Main.Btn2]" section is a line:
TargetPath=.\setup\Readme\%lang%\Readme.html.  It seems to me the "%lang%" parameter is messed up somehow being set to some version of "autorun.infla".  If "%lang%" is corupted, it seems likely that other parameters are corrupted as well indicated by the error message produced when hitting "Install".
I have tried running the Unstall_L4.bat.  It seems to fail on a particular section, but then presses on to completion.
I have run a Disc Cleanup and rebooted the computer several time as well as tried this installation several times but to no avail.
I have tried installing using the PS_AIO_07_C410_140_408.exe software and it produces the same results as the Solution Center.
I even tried the original installation disc, but, when the installation screen appeared, there were no "Install" nor "Readme" buttons (only and "Exit" button).
I have looked at the log files for the Solution Center installation.  It produced 12 log files: HPSLPSVC0000 - HPSLPSVC0010 and HPPIWLog.  None of the HPSLPSVC log files show any errors.  But, the HPPIWLog does.  I'll post the as much log as I can at the end of this post.  However, 2 failures stand out.
    The first is:
    ( 3-21-2014 22:38:38:347 ):MsiEnumRelatedProducts Failed with Upgrade code : {CC6EF10F-6CFE-4660-85B4-4CED9EEC7B5B}
    The second is:
    ( 3-21-2014 22:55:30:96 ):Error.!!Device's TYPE is NOT SUPPORTED
Well, other that the 2 errors from the log file, please let me know if you have any ideas on how the "%lang%" parameter could have been corrupted.  I'm willing to dig into the registry if I have to.
    Thanks in advance!
    Ted

(FYI - Could not post whole log due to the 50,000 character limit.  No errors reported after this point)

Firstly, thanks for your suggestion.  I appreciate it.
Secondly, sorry it took so long to get back to you.  The computer is my wife's and she been quite busy with it so I haven't had the chance to test out your suggestion.
Unfortunately, your suggestion didn't work.  I tried it multiple times with no luck.
    Here's some additional data.
    (1) As for the "ReadMe" issue (mentioned in the initial message), the "autorun.infla..." issue looks like the first "%" in the "%lang%" string is in fact the name of the file "autorun.inf".  So when "%lang%" is being printed, "autorun.inf" is being substituted for the first "%", hence "autorun.infla...".
    Not sure if that helps.
    (2) I tried running HP Print and Scan Doctor and I saw something unusual.  The initial page shows the following:
    Product                                       Connect                                  Software Status
    Prem C410,192.168.1.7      Network(192.168.1.5)     Installed
    Prem C410,192.168.1.7      Network(192.168.1.7)     Installed
There is ony 1 printer hooked to the network.  I searched through the registry and I did find instances of "192.168.1.5" and "192.168.1.7".
    (3) I also tried using the various uninstallers under util\ccc.
    L1: Completed with no issues.
L2: On step 10/12, a popup window indicates "Hp Installer Uninstaller has stopped working".  I click "Close Program" and that's the end of the processing.
L3: Same as L2.  But, after closing the program, a pop-up window asks "Are you sure you want to remove  from your computer?"  (FYI - No, I did not miss anything here.  That is exactly as it is printed.  There seems to be 2 spaces between "remove" and "your" as if a filename or program name should go here.)  I click "Yes", eventually the screen indicates 100% complete and I click "OK".  This sequence happens 3 more times (pop-up followed by a 100% complete screen).  After the 4th time, a screen indicates the process is complete, I hit "Finish" and the computer automatically reboots.
L4: Exactly the same as L3.
At times when step 10/12 failed, the "Current Progress" will be stopped on "Software\Wow6432\Hewlett-Packard\" followed by other registry entries.  I've searched through the registry and I can find only one entry that matches this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432\Hewlett-Packard.  But, none of the entries that follow that on the "Current Progress" bar match any entries.  (Ex: Software\Wow6432\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\CUE Settings.  This key does not exist.  There is a HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\CUE Settings, but not one tagged with the "Wow6432" entry.
Anyway, it looks like something has gone wrong with this computer's registry.  I reluctant to start hacking away at the registry.
I could use some more suggestions.
    Thanks!
    Ted
