Cannot install some add-ons

I am running latest Aurora (8.0a2), though this problem also existed in 7.0a2. I have the Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension installed, so I should be able to install add-ons for older versions of Firefox, and I can.
However, some add-ons do not install. (Three that I have tried are WebRunner, the AdBlock Plus Element Hiding Helper, and Open IT Online.) The little bubble that pops up says that it is downloaded. If I go to about:addons, the status of installation is given as "Verifying," though nothing ever happens. If I restart Aurora and try to install again, I get a message that the add-on is corrupt and could not be installed.
What can I do to fix this?

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Running Windows 7 64 bit, sophos av, firefox 13.0.1 cannot download some add-ons.

The operating environment is summaarised in the question. Particularly I cannot download and install the add-on Forecastfox(and one or two others). Using the install option I get a message saying "There was an error downloading forecastfox weather".
If I go to the website http://www.getforecastfox.com/ and try to download from there I get a connection error on addons.mozilla.com.

As this seems to be inconsistent this could be a temporary network download error. You can also try adjusting the settings in Sophos and Zone Alarm that could possibly interfere with the downloaded file integrity. Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firewalls this].
    [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls AV/Firewalls Configuration]
I think the programming intricacies wouldn't matter as most extensions doesn't contain binary components and can be easily unpacked and read by security software. Problems may occur if the security software is doing the scanning while the file is being downloaded and then repackages it on the system, as this would change the file integrity hash.

  • Today I have a windows 7 just set up and did not transfer fire fox data .I downloaded firefox again and installed some add ons but I only have a startup screen

I just want a firefox toolbar with all the tabs history, delete, menu, etc: what I have is a getting started page with search bar.

You're using Firefox 29 which is at Beta at the moment and will be released to the public next week. The UI has changed drastically and the Firefox button and menu bar have been hidden in place of the new menu located on the right end side of the navigation bar.
You can restore your menu bar by press the ALT key then at the top go to View > Toolbars > Menu Bar

  • I cannot get my add-ons to install. I get an error message. I had 3.0.19 working fine and had to reformat and somehow it will not restore via mozbackup the original way I had it. What am I missing?

I am trying to mnaintain my sanity when browsing and had No-Script, Request Policy and Ad Block installed and working well. I made a mistake and some malware got in there. I reformatted my drive and tried to restore via Moz backup but it will not install any add-ons in ANY version I have tried thus far.

Might be totally unrelated to the problem you're having, but saying it since it's still important: you should definitely upgrade to Firefox 3.6 asap, as 3.0.x is no longer supported by Mozilla. This means that you're no longer patched for security holes and are exposed to online threats like viruses, etc.
Upgrading is easy - just go to mozilla.com and download the latest and greatest version of Firefox. Good luck!

  • My firefox version is 3.6.12, however I cannot download any add-ons cause it says I am still using version 2, and it is the same for website such as youtube where it is always saying I am using a outdated browser. How do I solve this?

I keep updating my firefox whenever it prompts me to, and now I am using version 3.6.12, but I still cannot download any add-ons or have problem using youtube cause they still says I am using a older version of the browser.
But when I go Help > About Mozilla Firefox, I am sure I have the latest version and no more updates can be found.

You have or had an extension installed (MegaUpload toolbar) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6.12 to Firefox/2.0.0.13
You can check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page:
    * general.useragent.extra.firefox Firefox/2.0.0.13 MEGAUPLOAD 1.0
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.<br />
    Filter: general.useragent<br />
If general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose Reset.

  • I have updated firefox to version 6.0. The add-on galley does not recognize it and I am unable to upgrade and install most add-ons.

When tying to install new add-ons, a text appears that there is no support for firefox 3.0.7, assuming I am running that version instead of the recent 6.0. The stating mozilla/google webpage has a text saying that firefox is not up to date. After downloading and installing version 6.0, the text continues to appear in the homepage and add-ons are cannot be installed.

  • How can I stop Firefox from using and installing AVG add-ons?

Firefox continually re-installs AVG Toolbar and Secure Search and I need to be able to remove everything AVG permanently. My Alternative is to use another browser, so please advise asap?
    Thanks.

REmove from Firefox Toolbar and windows control pannel
In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.

Look at the highlighted copy of your Help > About Mozilla Firefox image attached below this message.
    <u>'''Reset general user-agent'''</u>
-In Firefox, type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and press the Enter key.
-If you see the warning, accept it (promise to be careful).
    -Filter = general.useragent.extra.firefox
-Right-click that preference and select Reset
-Then restart Firefox (File > Restart Firefox)

Every tab starts with a sentence (in Dutch, so I don't know the exact phrase in English):
Another program on your computer wants to adjust FireFox with the following add-on:
I even unchecked "Compatibility check" and tried the add-on "Compatibility reporter" to overrule the checks.

Also, please also try deleting the files named '''extensions.*''' in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder] after exiting Firefox. You can also open the profile folder through Firefox '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Open Containing Folder''' and exit Firefox. After restarting Firefox may ask you again, if so choose '''Allow''' and '''Continue''' in every tab but click '''Restart''' only in the last tab.
If the problem persists you can try creating [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=profile&r=0&e=sph&as=s new profile] and later [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s copy] needed files like '''places.sqlite''' which holds the bookmarks and history, '''key3.db''' + '''signons.sqlite''' which stores the passwords etc. from the old profile and also install the add-ons. • I cannot reach the Add-Ons screen

I cannot reach the Add-Ons screen.
Neither the menu item (under Tools), nor the key combo (shift-cmd-A) do anything

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
This issue can be caused by the Personas 1.6.0 extension. If you have it then update to Personas 1.6.1

  • Some add-ons were disabled because of the incompatibility

    some add-ons were disabled,
like :kaspersky URL advisor 9.0.0.463 ,
    realplayer browser record plugin 1.1.5,
    and Firefox synchronisation extension 7.3.3.42
they are not working because they are incompatible with Firefox 4

  • I by mistake chose to insall the weather app for Firefox on Apple iMac. I cannot uninstal from add ons since firefox crashes before then. Unable to use Firefox in safe mode. Help!

Basically I recently installed Firefox 3.6 on my Mac Laptop, only 3-4 months old, so latest Sea Leopard OSX System whatever
Anyway once installed I decide to have a theme, then add some add on applications. This seems to be the problem
When I first tried to run it all the apps opened home pages and I kept trying to close them as they did
Next time I got less pages but then I could not access the Tools>AddOns menu before the Firefox browser crashed
What seems to be happening is that the Weather app takes forever to load, my Apple Mac goes into the circle (thinking) mode which means I cannot activate any menus or move my mouse. Then by the time I try and type in say google in the blank www URL address the browser crashed. I have tried going into safe mode using the Option but makes no difference
If I can somehow instal the irksome weather app or get access to the Tool >Add ons menu and uninstall each of the several apps I have daftly installed I know I can get a solution
Any help or suggestions appreciated since I still think Firefox is cool:-). its the apps or some of them that suck!

Maybe you did't understand my previous statement. There are no crashes in FF 3.6, There is no previous evidence FF 14 was ever here, I completely uninstalled all trace of Firefox, no app data, no preferences, no cache. I will upgrade to FF14 so I can send IDs,
