Cannot install/uninstall iTunes 7.3

Installation stopped and I got this warning,
"Could not open key: HKEYLocalMachine\Software\Classes\.cda\OpenWithProgids"
Same message when I try to uninstall using add/remove programs.
Anyone know how to fix this? I cannot use iTunes or update my iPod.

Even though you're not getting an error message number 1402 or 1406, the best place to start with an install problem citing that particular Registry key is the following document:
Error 1406 or 1402 appears when you install iTunes or QuickTime for Windows

iTunes 9.0.x is certainly compatible with Win7 64 bit since I use that exact setup on 3 different PCs. Two suggestions for your installation problems:
1)Download a new copy of the 64 bit installer from Apple then, instead of just running the itunes installer right click on it and try 'run as adminstrator'. In my experience that clears up a world of problems with program installation in Win7 and Vista. This is necessary even if you're already logged in as an administrator.
    2) Try the previous version of iTunes (9.0.3). You can get a copy at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=54 again right click on the file and "run as administrator"
    Good luck, hope this helps.

  • Error trying to install/uninstall iTunes

I recently got the new iPod 5th gen and I need to update my iTunes in order to put my music on it.
However, when I go to install/uninstall iTunes the same error message comes up saying:
    And upon trying again/browsing:
I've tried various step by step walkthrough's off of the internet but none of them are doing anything.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • I cannot install either iTunes 10.5 or QuickTime 7.7 after having removed the previous installation of both softwares from my Win 7 64 bits.

Hi folks. I hope someone can help me out.
I had iTunes 10.4 and QuickTime Player 7.7 running pretty well on my notebook (a Dell Vostro 3550 with Win 7 Pro 64-bits) and followed many of the pieces of advice on how to upgrade to iTunes 10.5, including uninstalling all Apple software from my computer and trying to install them again from the very beginning.
First, I tried to uninstall/remove all Apple Softwares as suggested on the post http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923. But I was not able to remove the Apple softwares through ContolPanel -> Software -> Uninstall/Repair/Remove. The softwares removal stops due to "lack" of  Admin access permission to certain keys in Windows registry: xxx/Unistaller/Media, etc. I got this message trying to remove iTunes, QuickTime, AppleSoftwareUpdate, AppleMobileDeviceSupport. I can assure you that I do have Admin privileges on my notebook and I also shut down any protection tool (Win Firewall, Norton 350, etc.) that might be running during the softwares removal. None of the solutions seemed to work, but I could recover my previous installation of iTunes 10.4 and QuickTime 7.7 and got them running just fine.
Then I tried to uninstall iTunes and QuickTime using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and the Fix It Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall) as also suggested on one of the many posts I have read in Apple Communities. The softwares were all removed, however, even by getting the new installation packages of iTunes 10.5 and QuickTime 7.7 from Apple's web sute, I can't install any of them. I tried to do it with previous versions too, but nothing seems to work. And now, I can't even recover my previous installations of iTunes and QuickTime. I simply cannot have iTunes installed on my notebook.
It seems the only way to sort it out is reinstalling Win 7 and all other applications I have from the very beginning, which is a nightmare and will take days.
Any suggestions? I couldn't have any info from Apple Tech Support untill now.

what if they are turned off?  I cannot install iTunes or QuickTime Pro 7 on my WIN7/64 Lenovo W520. ran all the repair cycles uninstalls, reinstalls about 10X each, no luck

  • Can't install/uninstall iTunes

i've been getting the blue screen for a couple of weeks now...i'm freaking out cause i'm scared all this is damaging my computer... HELP! after a couple of weeks of blue screen, THIS is happening now:
it all starts with me trying to run iTunes and i would get this:
"iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes"
and so i try... i downloaded the newest version from the website and when trying to run the setup windows installer would give me this:
"the feature you are trying to use id on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to ry again, or enter an aternate path to a folder containing the installation package "iTunes.msi" in the box below"
it gives me a browsing option to locate the source. when i did finally find an "iTunes.msi" and i click OK it gives me:
"the file C:/WINDOWS/Downloaded Installations/......./iTunes.msi is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes. Try to find the installation package "iTunes.msi" in a folder from which you can install iTunes"
even if i try browsing to the downloaded setup it won't work. when i finally run out of options and click on cancel it would show:
"the installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it"
and that's about it. This will show if i try to install, uninstall or repair... so nothing works... ANY IDEAS? please

okay, we can actually proceed on two fronts with this.
as a preliminary, right-click on some of the Minidumps, and check the "Date Created". we're looking for dumps that were created with the itunes-related crashes that you were getting.
front one: let the Apple Engineers have a look
find some of the itunes-related minidumps and send them as attachments to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing
front two: we can try analysing the dumps ourselves
    Debugging crash dumps:
    1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here:
    <http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx>
    2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
    3. Click on File, Symbol File Path. Here you will enter the symbols path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
    The path will be:
    SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
    4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to File, Save Workspace so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
    5. Go to File, Open Crash Dump and load the file. You will get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it, as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed. You can get more details by typing "!analyze -v" in the debugger.
Try doing a Google search for the name of the component that caused the crash, and then dig around on the net for anything useful.
(also post back here with the name of the component, so i can have a look, too.)
Sometimes you need to drop the file extension (.sys, .exe, etc) in order to find relevant info.

  • Cannot install new iTunes (Error 2324)

Installing an iPhone5 on a PC with an old version of iTunes, tried to download new version and came back with error 2324. Tried to uninstall, same error.
    Things I have tried:
    User has local admin rights,
Have tried microsoft fix on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    Tried CCLeaner
Cannot do in safe mode as no installer service running.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

I cannot install either and getting same error code 2324. there are some fixes out ther but they all cost money. Apple has gotta come up with a fix.  why should we pay another company to be able to download an apple program.  I am in a real bind because I need to manage my music for new years party and now I don't have itunes at all.   Anyone know how to download an older version?
I HATE the new itunes format too.

  • I cannot fully uninstall iTunes because I am unable to delete the commonfiles\apple folder

I received error 42404 after updating to itunes 11, and have attempted to follow the instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925. However, my Vista will not let me delete the commonfiles\apple folder. How can I delete it?
The day of iTunes 11's release, I updated my iTunes, then opened up the prgm to take a look at it. I was immediately brought to the attention that the program didn't install correctly (with error 42404), so I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, with the same error coming up. I continued to use iTunes and see if i could ignore the issue, however I discovered I was unable to log into my itunes acount on the store.
So I followed the isntructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 correctly, deleted the remaining files/folders, except I am still unable to delete the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ folder. I attempt to delete it, it asks me for permission to do so, I say continue, and even after I give it permission to delete the folder, it instantly says to me, "You need permission to perform this action," and it gives me the options to cancel or try again (which immediately brings this same window up again asking me to try again).
I've done plenty of research for the past two days, from attempting to delete the individual files within this folder via the Command Prompt, using Safe Mode, and many other options, yet nothing works. I've seen many forums advise using a program called "Unlocker," however, anyone googling the program will find that it is offered from a plethora of various sites, and I honestly dont trust programs from these sites.
Is there ANYTHING anyone knows to do for an issue like this? All I need is that one folder deleted, and all my problems are gone!

    It still didn't work...
Within this commonfiles\apple folder, there is only one folder, labeled "Internet Services." Within this folder, there are 6 folders, labeled:
    APLZOD.resources
    BookmarkDAV_client.resources
    CoreDAV.resources
    iCloud.resources
    iCloudServices.resources
    ShellStreams.resources
Within all but CoreDAV and BookmarkDAV_client, there are multiple different folders, all labeled starting with a two letter (acronym I believe, for different languages) then .lproj (for example, a folder is labeled "ar.lproj".
In each of the folders of APLZOD.resources, there is a file labeled "APLZODlocalized.dll."
In all of the folders containing the multiple .lproj folders, there are likewise "name"localized.dll files contained.
In the BookmarkDAV_client and Core DAV folders, they each contain only one file, "Info.plist"
I attempted to delete all of these files, and still, the FileAssassin could not delete them. I unlocked one of them for instance, and I tried to delete the file myself (thru windows explorer and just clicking delete), and I still had the same issue of coming eventually to the window requesting me to "try again" to have permission.
What can I do?? I'd like to avoid Unlocker, but if it really is a reliable and SAFE program, and someone knows a SAFE place to download it from, I'd appreciate it very much so!!
    thanks!!

  • Error 2318 when installing/ uninstalling itunes

My itunes is having a problem (error 2318) with installing the new update so i decided to uninstall it first then reinstall it. But I am getting the same error when I try to uninstall itunes. • Cannot install/uninstall/use flash

recently i uninstalled flash in order to install a new version,
after this i discovered i could not install flash, and although
flash had been removed some animations could play,
furthermore the "about flash" or whatever ensured me that flash was still installed.
i uninstalled it through the control panel, a fatal mistake.
since then i have tried many times to use the flash uninstaller.
i have tried downloading special system tools.
i have searched and removed every folder and every registry entry
    named "flash", "macromedia", "adobe" etc.
i have removed every visible trace of any adobe product just to be certain, with "Revo uninstaller".
    i have uninstalled/reinstalled opera.
and i have then used a registry cleaner repeatedly.
i have looked through countless discussions to get help.
i cannot install any version of flash.
the "about flash" page still tells me i have flash installed.
is there anything more to do?
the only thing i can think of is reinstalling windows,
    or buying a new computer.
or if someone let me know the location of every file
and registry entry associated with flash so i could remove them.

I should have mentioned that i have Windows XP,
    using Opera, as mentioned.
i did not find any flash10x.ocx,
i did however find a few flash.ocx files
on various places, which i removed.
    i also found and deleted
    NPSWF32.dll
    NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe
    and flashplayer.xpt
    mentioned in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash
there must be some traces left in the registry
since the installer constantly fails to initialize.
i have tried disabling the firewall and antivirus
    while running the installer.
and i have tried all the standard instructions.
The browser does not claim that flash is installed anymore,
but the installers still fail to initialize when they start.

  • Error Installing/Uninstalling iTunes - Can't create a temp file

I have tried to upgrade to 8.0.2 and I am having some problems. I have tried to do this several times (after reboots, etc...etc..) and i keep getting a message that says itunes cannot create a temp file that it needs to finish the installation process. I have actually tried to uninstall itunes and i get the same message.... now when i open it - i get an error message that itunes cannot access cd information from the net and that i have to reinstall itunes to fix the problem. Any thoughts?

Which version of PSE you are on?
Please try the troubleshooting steps mentioned here : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408940.html
As a first step, you can try running Organizer directly from its exe in c:\program files or program files x86\adobe\elements organizer Ver\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe by right clicking it >> run as Admin. Now try taking slideshow output. Keep all background processes turned off from Edit >> Pref >> Media Analysis, while taking output.
    Thanks

  • Error installing/uninstalling itunes help please

    hello,
got the latest itunes, and recently i had some hd troubles, so i had to restore my system from acronis (restored the partition using a backup i created).
i try starting itunes and it doesn't want to work. i try installing/uninstalling and it doesn't want to work either.
    i get this message:
"The folder path "My Pictures" contains an invalid character."
i tried restoring 'My documents' to it's original and default locations, but i can't seem to get itunes to run.
any1 know how to fix this ? thanks.

It's a simple fix and doesn't involve reinstalling anything.
With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the libxml2.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Restart the programme all should be well
In case that your OS is (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "libxml2.dll"
    3. Open new windows explorer, to to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    4. Paste file "libxml2.dll" to the location.
    5. Restart the programme, it should not display that message, it should be clear.
    Good Luck
