Cannot Install Version 7 of iTunes

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows XP Home. I have a previous version of iPod on my computer but I just purchased the 80GB iPod. In order to get this thing up and running, I have to download the new version 7 of iTunes. I've done that, but now when I try and install it on the computer, I get a message that says I cannot install until I remove previous versions from my hardrive. I go to the Remove/Change Programs, click on the old iPod icon and hit "remove", but nothing happens---it won't let me remove the darned old version. Any suggestions? I want to use the new iPod and download all the iTunes I purchased and all my old music, but this is getting frustrating. I'm getting no help from Sony.

okay, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use that to remove the previous versions of the ipod updater installation configuration information. (in my copy of Cleanup, they typically show up as "Ipod for Windows [date]".)

Let's try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers with that one.
1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.)
2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:
/l*v C:\log.txt
4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address: [email protected]

HT1926 Have new generation 6 nano. Was able to install version 8 of itunes but error reads that this version with Vista needs newer version. Have tried to install 10.1 but it installs only part way then installs itself part way through. Help.

The solution Lijoesat posted above worked for me!
First I found the private/var/folders/ (and then lots of gibberish folders) and singled out two garageband files and deleted them. This did not work.
I then deleted everything which may or may not be a good thing, I am an idiot, I have no idea if these are extremely important files or not!
I tried to empty the trash bin after but many files was locked and Garageband would still not install.
I did a restart of the computer, emptied the bin successfully and tried to install Garageband again and it worked fine!
The inserted picture show some of the folder structure, I deleted everything after private/var/folders/

iTunes 7 is about 7 years old. Almost certainly your devices would not be recognized. Could you possibly mean 10.7?
It would be useful to know if you are using a Mac or Windows.
Upgrading software normally does not affect the library. Still, there are weekly complaints by users who say they have lost something while updating so you should make sure you have a backup of your computer before updating any software at all.

I have updated to the latest OIS on my IPad but cannot install the update for ITunes. I get error messages that I must log on as administrator (don't know how) and I can't use my ITunes now. Help please

I have updated to the lastest OS on my IPad3. No problem there. Then found I could no longer access my Itunes as there was a message 'Cannot be used as it requires version 10.6.3 or later. Go to ... and download'. I have tried four times and it won't work. I get another message saying I must sign in as administrator or contact my system administrator. Many thanks diesel. I cannot remember ever having an administrator password. Looks like I shall have to do a restore on my PC and not bother with the updates. Or maybe I could find my password from somewhere ? When I went into control panel I found a box with administrator and my name and it said password protected so I must have had one at some time. Cannot install version 7.4 on my windows 2000 PC

I have just bought an 8GB Nano but when I try to install it I am asked to upgrade to latest version above 7.4. However, iPod no longer supports Windows 2000 above version 7.3.2. which is the latest version on my PC. How can I get around this?

You can't get round this except by upgrading your operating system. iTunes 7.3 is last version to work with Windows 2000.

I cannot install or remove old itunes, install is looking for an msi

When I try to upgrade to lates Itunes or Quicktime, I get error message saying it cannot find an msi on a network drive. Same error message if I try to uninstall the existing itunes.

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software

If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You should be making backups of your content regularly, either through iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a external drive.
Windows is notorious for having "other" issues that make it unstable, we as volunteers helping others can't always resolve those issues.
After doing the steps above, stand by and others may be able to assist you.

Cannot install due to registry (iTunes 7)

I downloaded and attempted to install iTunes 7 last night, however I got this error:

This error is the result of a permissions problem in the registry. Windows performs installations with the built-in operating system account SYSTEM on behalf of the user even when you are an administrator. SYSTEM is normally the most powerful account, but administrators have the power to restrict SYSTEM's access. Follow the steps below to re-grant Windows (SYSTEM) the access it needs to write to the key in question.
Warning If you modify the registry incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
1. Uninstall QuickTime from Add or Remove Programs or from the Start Menu group QuickTime.
2. Download and install SubInACL from Microsoft.
3. Assuming you installed SubInACL to the default path "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\" then from Start Menu Run... enter all on the same line:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\subinacl.exe" /keyreg HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID /grant=SYST EM
4. Install iTunes 7. If any other registry keys have the same problem, reapply step 2 to the specific key. Make sure to type the key exactly. You may have to repeat this step a number of times depending on how much SYSTEM has been restricted on your computer.
These steps are safer than just deleting keys.

When will Firefox version 27.1 be compatible with aol toolbar used with my iMac OS version 10.7.5? I cannot install version Firefox 27.1 until fix is in place

I have an iMac desktop Operating System version 10.7.5.
Current Firefox Version 26 allows me to use AOL toolbar.
When I went to download / install updated Firefox version 27.1, message that appeared
said this version was incompatible with AOL toolbar.
Installation could only be complete if I disabled AOL toolbar which is NOT an option.
Please advise when this Firefox version 27.1 incompability issue will be fixed.

The message likely said it was the toolbar that was not compatible with Firefox 27.0.1. It is up to the Extension authors to make their Extension compatible with Firefox not the other way.
Unless the Extension is ties with a application with a binary like with Antivirus toolbars, the majority of Extensions that have been compatible since say Firefox 10.0 should still work for example.
Have you checked for updates for this Aol toolbar extension?

Cannot Install or Update the iTunes software- Nothing is working

I purchased a ipod Touch and plugged it into my Dell laptop. It knows it's attached but the software that I need refuses to update or recognize the new ipod. When I tried to follow the steps laid out in a prev. post it did nothing to solve the problem. I tried to change and repair the software, got nothing. I try to uninstall the software and this is what I get:
"iTunes could not be installed because Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is not installed or has been disabled. Make sure VBS is installed, turned off script blocking in anti virus and personal firewall software. Re registrar VBScript and then install itunes."
How do I do this and what other options do I have to get the latest software for my iPod Touch?

I found a way to answer my own question lol. If anyone is having the same problem, and judging from the other threads you are, here is what I did.
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 computer but I think it's ok if you have 32 bit computer.
This is the steps I took:
Open a command prompt. Then type following commands :
cd C:\Windows\System32.
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

To go to the command prompt click the windows icon, accessories, and then click "command prompt." Then type the information quoted above. I found this by using Yahoo Answers and searching for the "vbscript" ipod error message.
As the post on Yahoo Answers states even if an error message comes up it will still work. I followed that post and my problem went away.

Cannot install Apple iPod and iTune downloads (invalid digital signature)

Every time I try to install something from apple.com it won't let me. It brings up a message box that says something like "Invalid digital signatue" and it won't even give me a choice as to whether or not to download it. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you fix it?

Cisco support lower encryption type. Every new windows encrase cryptograpgi that IE support by default. Look IE about to see type 64 or 128 or 256…
On xp will work good, but we are now in era of win 8 with IE that support by default 128 or 256 depending home or server version.

Cannot install Version 7.0.1 on my iMac running OS X 10.6.7

When I try to update by moving Firefox to the Applications folder, it creates a new untitled folder containing all my applications plus Firefox 6.0.2. It doesn't matter if I try the 'Update" or "Download " full version.

Your free space on the boot drive is OK. Don't let it get much lower or you may start to see lower system and application performance.
Have you tried the following?
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that fails boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try there. Then reboot normally and try again.

Now trying to install from scratch the Itunes 801 it now states "Service (Bonjour Service) failed to start. verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services."
I have tried to install Bonjour again but there is an issue with that too.
I just want to play some music, any suggestions?

I wanted to install iTunes 8 on my computer. There comes an error message saying "bonjour applet cant be installed, you have not enough admin. rights".
It is my computer so i should have ALL admin. rights. Can anyone help me? Do I need internet access?
