Cannot install virtualbox "Cannot resolve Kernel26 2.6.29"

Hello,
I'm trying to get virtualbox running but it doesn't want to install.
This is what I get:
[root@Baldr werner]# pacman -S virtualbox
warning: provider package was selected (virtualbox-ose provides virtualbox)
resolving dependencies...
error: cannot resolve "kernel26<2.6.29", a dependency of "virtualbox-modules"
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: virtualbox-modules: requires kernel26<2.6.29
Upgraded everything to the latest version with pacman -Syu so that couldn't be the problem.
uname says i'm running kernel 2.6.29-ARCH so I really don't know what to do..
Someone who can help me ?

  • Installation of Archboot: cannot resolve "kernel26-lts"

    Hi,
    I'm trying to install the latest Archboot.  My existing host is using kernel 3.1.9-2 but Archboot seems to need kernel26.  When I try to install it with pacman, it says:
    warning: cannot resolve "kernel26-lts>=2.6.32.46-1", a dependency of "archboot"
    warning: cannot resolve "kerenl26-lts>=2.6.32", a dependency of "noveau-drm-lts"
    warning: cannot resolve "kernel26-lts<2.6.33", a dependency of "nouveau-drm-lts"
    Do I really need to install kernel26 items?  I'm hesitant because I really like the nice minimal system I have at the moment.
    tia!

    kernel26-lts has been renamed to linux-lts when Linux 3.0 became LTS, so your ArchBoot must be out of date...
    In fact "pacman -Si archboot | grep kernel" returns nothing.
    However:
    $ pacman -Si nouveau-drm-lts | grep kernel
    Depends On : kernel26-lts>=2.6.32 kernel26-lts<2.6.33
    This package is orphan, which must be the reason why it's not up to date.
    I suppose you could use abs to rebuild nouveau-drm-lts against kernel 3.0... Maybe .

    this is because the vm* pkg theoretically has o support for the newer kernel yet
    o either rebuild it and see if it works against the new one
    find a patch for the new kernel and rebuild
    or if you don't use it currently you could force the upgrade
    pacman -Syud (d to ignore the dependency)
    this way you can continue to test the new pkgs
    you may wanna check the bug tracker a more permanent fix(patch) may have been submitted there
    if there exists a bug report

  • Package install fails (cannot resolve gpgme)

    I am using the latest netinstall image (2011.08.19)
    When I get to installing packages, I get this error:
    Cannot resolve "gpgme", a dependency of "pacman"

    Never-mind, updating the install environment is definitely not working.
    While the install environment updates just like any other already installed arch system, once I get it all up to date, running the install script breaks. /arch/setup starts the install dialog like normal, but when I go to select the first step, I get an error:
    ERROR: ask_checklist makes only sense if you specify at least 1 thing (tag,item and ON/OFF switch)
    after which I get kicked back out to the shell. I'm assuming that something I updated isn't backwards compatible with something in /arch/setup, but that's as far as my knowledge of this goes.
    If anyone else has ideas, I'll give them a shot.

  • Installing Sun ONE 5.2 on Win2003 w/no domain "cannot resolve name"

    Hi all,
    Any way to install Sun ONE 5.2 on Win2003 server w/no domain? We only have workgroup. I cannot get past this 1st step of install. If I try to make something up, I get "cannot resolve name" error. It allowed "Dell-2003.domain.com" (Dell-2003 is computername) the first time through, but install failed. Any tips?

    Just what is your hosts file looking like?
    I guess your XP box has an IP address... if not you will get problems sooner or later.
    Ok. assuming you have an IP allocated to your XP system a line like:
    123.123.123.123 xpbox.mydummydomain.com
    in the c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file should work...
    where 123.123.123.123 is the IP address of your workstation and xpbox is the name. mydummydomain.com is the dummy domain that xpbox is faked to be a member of.
    Now, when you install iPlanet the install process gets the computer name and you provide the domain (mydummydomain.com) the install process can resolve the name to an ip via the hosts file as last resort.
    If your xp box uses DHCP and gets an IP address dynamically then sooner or later you will get problems trying to host a Directory Server with this approach.
    Also, ping xpbox.mydummydomain.com beforehand, just to make sure that computer doesnt already exist. grin

    I do not thing archbang is officially  archlinux distributions (you are on an archlinux forum). This error does not appear on the current archlinux distribution. My guess is that here is a confusion between python / python2 / python3. Just run pacman -Si to know (or the equivalent of pacman for archbang).
    I would suggest you to use the official archlinux instead of this fork, archlinux has much more support and users and I do not quite understand what archbang has to offer: Their homepage said that it is archlinux combined with openbox, but you can just do
    pacman -S openbox
    on arch; it does not seems to justify a fork (but please correct me if I am wrong).

  • Problem with DNS - ping/Safari cannot resolve, but host/dig work OK

    Hi All,
    Have a weird problem with DNS which is a bit similar to the following ones:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2190208
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=337942
    I connect with remote internal network via OpenVPN and from time to time (yes, intermittent problem :)) internal DNS names cannot be resolved.
    When it happens I can still resolve names using host or dig utilities, but applications (like Safari) and ping cannot resolve them.
    resolv.conf has proper DNS server set:
    *$ cat /etc/resolv.conf*
    *# Mac OS X Notice*
    *# This file is not used by the host name and address resolution*
    *# or the DNS query routing mechanisms used by most processes on*
    *# this Mac OS X system.*
    *# This file is automatically generated.*
    *domain openvpn*
    *search openvpn*
    *nameserver 10.0.0.1*
    More than that - it can resolve those internal names when queried directly, for example using host:
    *$ host YYY.XXX.ru 10.0.0.1*
    *Using domain server:*
    *Name: 10.0.0.1*
    *Address: 10.0.0.1#53*
    Aliases:
    *YYY.XXX.ru has address 192.168.x.y*
    but at the same time ping reports "*Unknown host*":
    *$ ping YYY.XXX.ru*
    *ping: cannot resolve YYY.XXX.ru: Unknown host*
    I tried "*dscacheutil -flushcache*" and it did not help. Also tried to comment out domain and search directives in resolv.conf and it did not help as well (and actually it should not matter).
    Any ideas why this can happen and what else can I check when it happens again?
    Thanks!

    I have the same issue. It cropped up after I installed updates to MS Office 2008 and Firefox in which I also saw issues with the icons disappearing in the dock of the applications that were open when I started the Office update. I rebooted to try to get them back, but ended up deleting them and restoring from the Applications folder. I don't know if that's a red herring or not, but I generally try to figure out what has recently changed that may cause something to suddenly start failing.
    I'd been working successfully all morning before it started acting up. Switching from wifi to cat5 had no effect.
    @realaaa, were you able to resolve without a major undertaking, like reinstalling your OS?

  • Gumbo in Flex builder 3: cannot resolve FxApplication to component implimentation

    Hello everyone,
    I've been banging my head on the keyboard over this issue for a while. I've downloaded and successfully installed 2 seperate versions of the nightly Flex Gumbo SDK 4.0.0.6831 and 4.0.0.6898 (two versions because i had first assumed that the error was a nightly bug). I've set the Flex compiler to use the new 4.0.0.6898 build and changed the Require flash player version to 10.0.0.  Everything set right?
    so i put this:
    <Application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" layout="absolute">
    <FxButton label="Hello World" />
    </Application>
    and get the error at compile time: Gumbo in Flex builder 3: cannot resolve <FxApplication> to component implimentation. I've tried everything: <Application>, changed the namespaces, and more. Any other ideas?
    Thank you in advance -brandon

    The compiler refuses to recognize the symbols StringBuilder and Formatter.
    I have spent hours googling for an answer and trying every suggestion. Nothing works, not even the one about dropping the computer from the rooftop.
    Ultimately, what I'm trying to accomplish (in a different program) is to use a text file as a form letter template and replace the %s placeholders with stings from my form object.
    Any advice?

  • JMS "cannot resolve symbol" error

    I am a bit new to JMS...
    I am trying to compile a sample code available on net to receive message from a queue....
    I am using MQSeries JMSAdmin as the JMS provider...
    however the code is giving the following compile time error...
    MqJmsProp.java:257: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : method createSession (boolean,int)
    location: interface javax.jms.Connection
    QueueSession session = connection.createSession(transacted,Sessi
    on.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    ^
    1 error
    Can anyone suggest me what might be the problem...
    Thanks in advance...
    Pats

    Hi Shanu...
    Thanks for all the interest that you have shown....
    I have IBM MWebSphere MQSeries installed on my system...
    and as I mentioned earlier am using the JMS implementation provided by MQSeries...
    I have created a queue in the queue manager which is on the local system....
    I have done JNDI binding for the queue manager and the queue that i m gonna use....
    how ever if u look at the error ... it does not say any thing about the queue not available....
    its more a pure java related error which i am not able to track.... :(
    i know this error looks silly and very novice ... but thats the situation i m in right now...
    the code which is giving me this error is like this ....
    QueueSession session;
    session = connection.createQueueSession(false,Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    where connection is a javax.jms.QueueConnection object...
    I hope this explains my problem in a much better way...
    would appreciate if u can throw any light on this...
    Thanks,
    Pats...

  • Error: cannot resolve dependencies for "avahi"

    Greetings:
    I get the following message when I run paman -Syu
    :: Replace mkinitrd with mkinitcpio from "current"? [Y/n]
    error: cannot resolve dependencies for "avahi":
    "dbus" is not in the package set
    So, I thougth I'd get rid of avahi, but pacman -R avahi returns:
    error: this will break the following dependencies:
    avahi: is required by gnome-vfs
    I've tried removing dbus from the daemons in rc.conf. I've tired restating dbus folloing instrcutions from another thread here.
    Pacman -Ss dbus returns:
    community/perl-net-dbus 0.33.3-1
    Perl extension for the DBUS message system
    So I am thinking, and am probably completely wrong, that pacman is searching for a repo with dbus in it?
    Color me stumped.

    Yes, I have the default install one uncommented:
    [extra]
    # Add your preferred servers here, they will be used first
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/extra
    Should I add a different one?
