Cannot install XCode - error occurred while evaluating Javascript
Evening all,
I just tried installing XCode onto my Snow Leopard disk, but I get an error saying:
Xcode can't be installed on this disk. An error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for this package.
I've run verify/repair disk permissions and also repair disk and still get the same error.
Any Ideas?
I probably can't be of much help here, but since you haven't gotten any responses yet, I'll try. The only thing I can recommend is making sure Xcode is completely uninstalled, and then re-downloading it from Apple's site and try installing it again. If re-downloading it doesn't work, then I don't know what it could be. Hopefully someone else around here will.
Also, make sure you are installing version 3.2 of Xcode -- it's the only one that runs on Snow Leopard.
Finally, I'm not sure what you mean when you say "my Snow Leopard disk". Snow Leopard is an operating system, not a hard disk. I'm assuming that you have a Mac (Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro) -- is this correct? And you are running Snow Leopard as your operating system, yes?
I'm just trying to get as much information as possible, because you never know what info will be helpful in solving your problem, if not for me then for the next guy who comes along and tries to answer your question.
Anyways, hope your problem gets worked out. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

10.8.2 update: can't install "error occurred while evaluating Javascript for the package"
Greetings All-
I'm trying to update from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 on my Macbook Air. When I downloaded the .dmg from Apple and ran it, I got the following error:
"OS X Update Can't be installed on this disk. An error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for the package."
So far, I've done the following, all to no avail:
(1) Updated Java to v7 per Java's website, no change
(2) Downloaded the 10.8.2 combo update, no change
(3) Found Apple's OS X Java update (which is still at v6)- get an error at install that "the contents of the disk can't be changed"
(4) Restarted at each step
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

I'm getting this error on trying to install / update LR 5.3 to 5.4:
"Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.2 can't be installed on this disk. An error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for the package."
I hope there's somebody that can help me out here.

ThanksWell, I've tried your solution without luck.
So, I tried reinstalling OS X Mountain Lion (without formatting the HDD) and it worked! I did it like this:
- Turned on my MBP while holding down Command-R to start OS X Recovery
- Chose the option to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion
After a while, the system rebooted and OS X 10.8.2 was already installed. All my data remained on the HDD since I didn't format it before reinstalling OS X.
Hope it helps some of you with the same problem. -

I need help. Whenever I try to install anything I get the error "an error occurred while evaluating javascript for the package." This occurs with installing a safari update or updating OS X. I am running with version 10.6.4 but can not update because I get the"an error occurred while evaluating javascript for the package" error. Any suggestions on how to repair my system?

I ve iPhone 5s. Which is on version 7.1.2. The network is stacked on searching text. Even if I removed the sim. The usual "no sim" text is not there. It shows "searching..." .I ve downloaded ios 8.0.1 on the same phone. but, unable to install "an error occurred while installing message is appearing. What should I do to fix it?

"Be glad you can't install IOS 8.0.1 it's been withdrawn already. It caused more problems then it fixed."

I purchased mountain lion, but after numerous attempts until my fingers all gone numb, i simply cannot install it on my imac. i get this error message: "an error occurred while installing OS X, you cannot install OS X on this disk......".

Open Disk Utility (in Applications > Utilities). The left column should show your disk with its partition(s) indented below it:
How is the disk (top level container) formatted according to Disk Utility:
* What Partiton Map Scheme? (Should be "GUID Partition Table".)
* How many partitions? (Should be 1 unless you have a Boot Camp partition.)
How is the partition (lower level container) formatted according to Disk Utility? (Should be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".)

Have a first gen iPad with 4.3 IOS. Can't download version 5.1 because iTunes 11.1 need to be downloaded. Cannot download version of iTunes. " errors occured while installing updates. if the problem persists choose tools>download only and try installing manually". This is as far as I can get. Can't find tools to manually download. When I try to reset to factory settings, I get an error also.
Try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

Ever since I updated my Windows Vista Laptop to Service Pack 2, iTunes has not been able to update with the a popup with "error occurred while installing updates. If the problems persist choose Tools > Download Only". And i DID have to Reinstall iTunes from scratch, so please help me. I really want to get rid of this problem thats been bothering me for 2 years

Go to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu", right-click "Programs" and select "Properties".
On the Security Tab, Click "Advanced".
Go to the Owner tab, and Click "Edit".
Change the owner to yourself, Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", and Click OK.
And then re-run the installation. Hope that works!
