Cannot install Yosemite to my 2012 Macbook Pro

I currently have OS X 10.9.5. Every time I try and install Yosemite the install fails and provides me with an error log. I have re-downloaded Yosemite and tried again, I also make sure my power supply is plugged in when downloading/installing.
Very frustrating as I cannot get a Genius bar appointment to sort this. It's ridiculously long but I currently have no other options so have pasted my error log below. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

You could try creating a USB boot disk and install from there. How-to: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/how-to-make-your-own-bootable-os-x-10-10-yo semite-usb-install-drive/
I recommend the "The only-slightly-less-easy way" from the article, it's actually easier in my opinion.
Edit: Official instructions for installing Mavericks here: Creating a bootable OS X installer in OS X Mavericks . Refer to article above for copy-paste procedure for Yosemite.

  • I just installed Yosemite on to my MacBook Pro

I just installed Yosemite on to my MacBook Pro and I have noticed that my computer has slowed down, I now start working and all of a sudden, the cursor turns into the little round colored circle and the system "stalls" for a bit.
My favorite bookmarks in Safari are now gone and I have to go into Bookmarks to find then and all of the files and folders on my desktop are now gone, what happened to them and how do I get them back?

I also have a blur for a background.  I ran a program and saw my background and folders/files behind that blur.  I tried to set the background and evidently it did I just can't see past that blurred image.

  • Unable to install Yosemite on my 2011 Macbook Pro (4gb Ram, 2.4 Ghz intel core 2 duo) machine.

    Hello People,
I have been trying to download and install the new Mac Os Yosemite on my 2011 macbook pro which was previously running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. But, for some reason I am not able to install the file even when the download has been completed. This is the message i see every time i try to do a 'retry'. Can anybody please tell me whats going on with the installation process. and how can I fix this problem.

    Your model uses:
    Maximum Memory
    8.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
So the specifications you provided will not work in your computer. Nor will your computer support 16 GBs.
A MBP 7,1 is a Mid-2010 model, not an Early 2011 model. If you truly have an Early 2011 model then it requires:
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
The specs you provided are also not suitable.

  • Installing SSD on Mid 2012 Macbook Pro

Hi I'm installing an SSD on a 15" Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) model this weekend. I just had a few questions to run by people who have done the same thing. First I've noticed in the how-to videos I've watched that there are two main ways to format the drive: 1.) Erase the drive in disk utility, or 2.) Partition it. Is there a difference, and if so is one better?
My second question is once I take the back of the computer off is it necessary to disconnect the batter? Again I've seen several how to videos, and this seems to vary.
Finally, I've noted that anything I've read says to ground yourself by touching the case of the computer. Is this referring to the back portion that I removed or the main body of the computer?
I would also like to note that I'm running the latest version of Yosemite, I have a time capsule with my backups on it as well as a separate internal drive, and I also plan on using SuperDuper to clone my HD. Thanks in advance for all of the input.

Those are potentially three different terms there:
"Erase" just means delete the disk directory file so that even though there might still be millions of files on the drive, there is no longer any record of where they are. Using the drive will gradually write new files over the old ones.
"Partition" means to divide the drive into multiple volumes. Each volume can be mounted or dismounted separately as if it was a separate drive, even though there's just one real drive. Partitioning used to require erasing the whole drive, but now you can at least adjust partition sizes without erasing at all.
"Format" can mean Erase, but there is also a "low-level format" that remaps the entire drive, blocking off bad sectors and optionally writing over old data so it can't be read. That would go well beyond a typical Erase.
Now, what you want to do with any new drive for your Mac is to select it in Disk Utility and make sure it has been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). If it's formatted as anything that does not start with Mac OS (like Fat32), you need to format it as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled). From there, you can partition it if you want, but it is best not to partition unless you have a specific need to.

I have never disconnected the battery when replacing the drive in current MacBook Pros, but I guess if you do it might be safer. In old models where the battery was removable, I did take it out then.

You need to ground yourself in the electrical sense. That means some part of your body should touch some part of the computer that is metal and leads to the ground, to dissipate any static charges. The best way is to use a grounding strap that is connected to a grounded metal fitting in the room like a pipe. I touch the metal part of the power cord (the end you plug into the laptop). I believe touching the computer case has no effect if the case is not grounded (like a desktop plugged into the wall) because the static has nowhere to go, but someone with more electrical knowledge should clarify that.
However you ground yourself, during the operation you should stay in one place like your chair and avoid shuffling your feet, especially on carpet. Once I'm handling components I will not walk across the room until I put down the component, and when I come back I won't pick up the component again until I first touch a ground.

  • Cannot install Adobe Air on new MacBook Pro - Help!

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and I am trying to install a program from Real Networks called Rinse (cleans up your iTunes).  When installing Rinse, I get a message that says the program requires Adobe Air and that I will need to download and install it.  I have downloaded the Adobe Air install program from the Adobe site, however when I go to install it, it either does nothing at all---or it gives me an error message that I need Adobe Air in order to install Adobe Air (makes no sense).  Specifically, I get the message below:
This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found.
Please download the latest version of the runtime from
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getair,
or contact the application author for an updated version.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I would recommend you try downloading Adobe Air from this link : Get Adobe Air.
You will have to manually select the operating system and version before you begin the download.
If you continue to have the same issue, I would recommend that you post it in the Adobe Air Forums.
    Thanks

  • Installing Yosemite failed om 2012 Mac PRO

I have tried to install Yosemite on my Mac PRO (OS X 10.9.5) It looked good in the beginning but turned out to be a total disaster.
I couldn't start my computer again. I tried it again but it failed again! Now I put OSX 10.9.5 back on again and luckily it works. Only lost a couple of files.
Good lesson: make a back-up before installing Yosemite!!!!! Use the Time Machine and a separate hard disk.
What is wrong with Yosemite or the Mac PRO that it doesn't work??
    Please help.
Suggestion to alle Mac PRO users don't install Yosemite until this problem is solved by APPLE.

First, look at this article and see if your model can do an Internet Recovery: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If yours needs the firmware update, then do that  before moving on.
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If for some reason your hard drive cannot be repartitioned or is not even visible in Disk Utility, then the drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

  • Cannot install office 2008 on new Macbook pro.

I have just received my new macbook pro 17 inch. I"ve installed the bundled apps cd, but when I try to install Mac Office 2008, I receive the following error:
Microsoft office for Mac can't be installed on this disk. newer-version-installed message.
I'm running Snow leopard 10.6.4 and have only installed firefox and AIM besides the software that came with the mac.
I've searched the Mac and cannot find any reference to Microsoft or office 2008. I've also gone through the "Remove office 2008 manually" from the Microsoft website and again have not found any files or folders they referred to.
Does anyone know what else I can do to solve this issue?

    Hi baltwo,
However, running Remove Office might do the trick.
I mentioned it anyway because I've seen posts in the past here where the same thing happened. The OP had manually deleted everything they could find, but still couldn't install without either running the Remove Office tool, or going the Draconian route and formatting the drive, reinstalling everything from scratch.
I think that happens if you've opened any Office trial app. It must put a hidden file on the drive somewhere that tracks your 30 day usage from there. If it does exist, then using the Remove Office tool is the only way to get it off the hard drive so you can install the full version.

  • Help -- cannot install Windows on my new Macbook Pro

I have a new 2010 Macbook Pro with an Intel SSD inside, and where the DVD drive is I have a 500 GB hard drive with the MCE Optibay, which I used with no issues for 1 1/2 years in my last laptop. I have everything set up nicely however I find I am unable to boot any Windows disk when I go to install boot camp. I set up the 2nd partition, then go to do the installation using an external DVD drive that I've used before with no issues. The disc is sesned and everything seems like it will work but instead of booting the Windows installer disc I get a "No" Mark (like Ghostbusters without the ghost) and it stops booting. I've tried Vista (two different discs) and 7 and nothing will boot.
Can anyone tell me how I can go about installing Windows on my 2nd disc. The disc itself is fine. Boot Camp sees it and says which disc would I like to make a Windows partition on, and all seems fine -- but the OS just won't boot off the Windows disc no matter what. Have tried 2 different external USB drives and it's frustrating.
    Hope someone can help!

The problem you are experiencing probably isn't unique to your particular MBP. It took me two months to get Win7 (32 bit) installed and working on my MBP (early 2010 15.6" screen). I gave up on trying to get the 64 bit version to work. As far as I am concerned getting Win 7 to play on a Mac Book Pro is a crap shoot. You really have to be lucky, good has nothing to do with it. Maybe in another 6 months things will have progressed to the point that the installation is actually a no brainer. Sorry I can't be more supportive of your efforts.
I don't have a clue as to why the 32 bit version installed (not without problems I might add), and I could never get the 64 bit version to play. I used the retail version of Win 7 Ultimate which came with both 32 and 64 bit DVD's.

  • Cannot Install Flash 10.2 on MacBook Pro

I have spent the last three hours trying to install Flash 10.2 on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.8.
I have run the Flash uninstaller several times throughout the process.
Each time I successfully "install" 10.2 I try to run something like Google Maps Streetview and get the same message over and over telling me I need to install latest version of Flash.
I have no idea what to do at this point and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    DRK

Hi, You didn't say if you are using Safari or another browser. Either way, when Flash Player Installs, the Shockwave Flash plugin is also Installed and must be Enabled. Sometimes it gets disabled, so you may want to check that. This is a browser plugin.
Then I have read that the Repair Permissions must be used with the Disk Utility. You may already know this. I don't use a Mac, but read from what other Mac users post and read the Apple Discussions concerning Flash Player.
Whether it's a PC or a Mac, the websites are looking for that plugin and that's probably why you are getting that message.
    Hope that helps,

  • Cannot install OS X in my macbook pro

please help, my computer was running like a charm until two days ago when it virtually died. First constant pop up messages of "finder quit" then slow to the point that no application could be opened. Tryed booting safe, re-installing last updates for OS X (10.6.8), re-booting with the original DVD, run verification, etc, so I decided to reformat...but to my surprise OS X won't install from the disk ( the original that came with the computer that I bought less than a year ago)...after a while of installation the following message appears: "cannot install suppot files"...can someone help me?
    C.

A little while ago, my PowerBook G4's internal hard drive "died" where it would keep returning I/O errors for no good reason... I checked the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive which said that everything was OK when in fact it wasn't.
You can see that here: http://tonza.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html [When S.M.A.R.T. Status Means Nothing.]
So I would suggest not relying on the S.M.A.R.T. status of a drive... rather, try and get Mac OS X running (on another drive if need be), and check for I/O errors coming from the kernel relating to the the suspect drive.

  • Cannot install Windows 8.1 on Macbook Pro Retina Display

    Hello,
I am installing Windows 8.1 on my 15" Macbook with Retina Diaplay (I bought this in Easter) using the bootcamp.
The Windows 8.1 cannot be installed and said that the boot information cannot be changed and the Macbook hanged.
After switch off, then on again, even the OS X cannot be loaded, only a grey screen then switch off automatically.
Kindly could you please advise what is happening and what I can do?  Do I need to bring it to the Apple Shop to fix it?  Will they help me to install the Windows 8.1?
    Thanks.
    Kwong

Thanks, turbostar.  I will try that.
However, my question is I am using the 8.1 DVD to install, but how comes this does not work?  Also it stopped and saying that the boot information can't be changed.  What is happening?  I have checked that the partition is good and format for Windows, but still not working.  Sigh.

  • Cannot install Xcode4 on very new MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.2

    Hello,
I am trying to install Oracle DB 10g on my brand new Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion Mac Book Pro.
One of the Oracle requirements is to have either the:
    A) Dec 2003 gccLongBranchTools update installed; or
    B) install XCode Tools 1.2 or higher, which includes the correct version of gcc
Well, when I try to install XCode 4 with Mac OS X and iOS SDK's I got 2 errors:
    1. an error regarding permissions on sudoers which appears to have been fixed by running Disk Utility - Repair Permissions - at least it's not appearing in the install.log file at this time
    2. and the other which is more of a mystery to me, it reads
    PackageKit: Install Failed: Error Domain=PKInstallErrorDomain Code=110 "An error occurred while extracting files from the package “iPhoneSDK5_0.pkg”." UserInfo=0x7fdf8a4d2190 {NSLocalizedDescription=An error occurred while extracting files from the package “iPhoneSDK5_0.pkg”., NSFilePath=/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/Cleanup At Startup/PKInstallSandbox-tmp/Root, NSURL=file://localhost/Applications/Install%20Xcode.app/Contents/Resources/Pack ages/iPhoneSDK5_0.pkg, PKInstallPackageIdentifier=com.apple.pkg.iPhoneSDK5_0, NSUnderlyingError=0x7fdf882e8d40 "The file couldn’t be opened because it isn’t in the correct format."} {
I have no idea how to deal with this error or why it would be so.  Needless to say, it stops the entire install.  I downloaded the latest version of XCode just this morning.
I also thought of trying to install GCC by itself but the info on their site seems to be dated back to Darwin and not sure if the version they have there is applicable to Lion, plus I haven't done "MAKE" or any of the build type process since college.  Would like to avoid this approach if possible.
Can anyone offer any solutions.  I need to get going on Oracle review!
    Regards,
    Gerald

    KT,
Should have said - 4.2.1 is the version.  I did another download while I was waiting for replies on this thread and am going to give it another shot.
Not running anti-virus yet - brand newmachine so haven't installed everything.  400gb free, hard drive passes any checks I've run on it.  I haven't looked outside to see the moon yet so not sure of that last one.
Why would I want to create a new user to run the freshly downloaded installer??
