Cannot integrate iPhoto 8 with Aperture 2

I have the trial version of Aperture (v 2.1.3) and am trying to integrate it with my iPhoto (v 7.1.5) but am unable to do so.
In iPhoto I cannot see the "Show Aperture Library" option in the file pull down menu. I tried closing and re-opening iPhoto thinking this would 'refresh' this app - but no help.
In Aperture, I am able to see the "Show iPhoto Browser" option in the file pull down menu. I am also able to see my iPhoto events and images in that browser. But when I try to import an image from there to Aperture - by clicking onto an image and dragging it to a folder in Aperture (within the program), that causes my Aperture app to hang - it just keeps acting like its importing but never finishes.
Any ideas on what to do here to make this integration work?
There was a time when these two programs were playing nicely with each other. Not sure what happened since then. Also - I still have time left on the trial of Aperture, and this program appears to be working fine on its own.
Thanks for any help here ...
-S

No I haven't - but then again, I was able to move between both programs at one time before, and that was without having used the preview feature (ever) in Aperture.
Is there something going on with the preferences maybe?
Is there something up with my OS?
I don't understand why one time it works and then another time it doesn't.
also - There is an issue happening in both directions:
Aperture to iPhoto
iPhoto to Aperture
Would using Preview in Aperture help with either approach to integration?
Is there supposed to be an order to how the programs are opened?
Is there supposed to be an order to where the master images are supposed to be residing initially?
Just wondering if I am missing anything here.

  • How share Iphoto library with Aperture 3?

I would like to know if it's possible to share the iphoto library with aperture 3 without duplicate the photo. could be possibile to modify one photo with aperture and view the correction with iphoto? is it possible to have one library for the same and open it with one or the other sofwtare?
    thanks a lot,
    V.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
is it possible to have one library for the same and open it with one or the other sofwtare?
    It's not possible.
iPhoto cannot understand the Aperture Library.
Some things you can do: Have two separate libraries pointing at the same set of photos.
Share the Aperture Previews with iPhoto.
But there is no way to have edits made in one Library show up in the other automatically.
possibile to modify one photo with aperture and view the correction with iphoto?
Aperture is not an pixel editor like Photoshop, you cannot use it as an external editor for iPhoto.

  • Can I use multiple iPhoto libraries with Aperture?

I've been using iPhoto to manage my photos (successfully) for many years.  I have multiple themed iPhoto libraries with many thousands of photos in them (ten years' worth of digital plus another fifty years scanned).  I am thinking of downloading Aperture and giving it a try (thanks to an App Store gift card).
Can I use Aperture to edit photos within these iPhoto libraries?  Do the libraries become "common" to both applications, or does duplication occur?  I have limited hard drive space and don't want to create large duplicate files on my iMac.
    Thanks.

I have some 50-100 libraries (haven't counted recently) which occupy most of my hard drive.  I find it easiest to manage my photos with themed libraries (annual, trip, subject).
You could make each of your "themed Libraries" a Folder in Aperture, with all your current Projects and Albums intact.  In this way, you could search across all of your Image at once (e.g.: a Smart Album showing all Images in which you've identified a Face as "Mom"; or filter for the keyword "Sunset").  In general, the more Images in a Library, the more useful that Library is.  I strongly recommend one Library for each photographer (or group of photographers working as a business).  Aperture has no trouble handling enormous Libraries (officially, it supports up to 1,000,000 Images, iirc).
A more advanced Library organization would replace each "themed" Folder+Projects with Albums.  There is no reason to limit your "themes" to the Images in just the Projects contained in a Folder.
My general recommendation has always been to put all your Projects in one Folder (with sub-Folders as needed); and to put all your Albums in another top-level Folder.  In this way you build two structures: a _storage_ structure, in which you put all your Projects, where each Project = one shoot, and an _access_ structure, where you have Albums organized by Folders into whatever groupings you need.
The newest version of Aperture (3.3.1) leans in this direction.  For the first time there is a default division between Project storage and Album storage (one the Library tab of the Inspector, there are now two built-in top-level containers, one for Projects and one for Albums).
A separate issue is where on your system your Library and your Originals are stored.  Aperture allows you to move your Originals to storage on external drives or other non-system drives.  The limitation of the storage available on the system drive is something that all active photographers encounter at some point.  (In Aperture-speak, you would convert Image's Originals from Managed to Referenced using "File➞Relocate Originals".  This isn't something I'd look into right away, but rather after you become familiar with the Aperture interface.

  • I have Aperture 3 now and can't use my iPhoto library with Aperture.

My version of iPhoto is 8.1.2. Aperture says I need iPhoto 9.1 or somewhere around there. How do I do this. Is this another purchase I will have to make? I downloaded the upgrade for iPhoto 9.4.2 and it told me that I need iPhoto 9.1 or later for the upgrade to 9.4.2. Come on man!!!
I just spent $100 for mountain lion and aperture. What is the oldest upgrade I can make to iPhoto 8.1.2 so it will work with aperture 3? Or am I just stuck with having to purchase iPhoto 9.1?
    Thanks

As documented you must have iPhoto 9.3 and Aperture 3.3 or later - if you do not meet the minimum requirements then you must upgrade to meet them - in your case purchasing iPhoto '11 in the App store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5260?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
With Aperture 3.3 you can directly open and work with libraries from iPhoto 9.3 or later.

  • Using Iphoto 8 with Aperture 3

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this one... I have sucessfully imported my existing Iphoto events (Iphoto 8) located on an external HD to my aperture library (on my Mac HD) as referenced files. I then created a new event with new photos imported from my camera on Iphoto, but can't seem to get this new event to Aperture as referenced files. I can import the masters from this event into the Aperture library, but don't want to do that for HD space issues. Basically, I'm still hoping I can use Iphoto as my main repository for photos (on my external HD) imported from my camera, view them quickly, then export a new iphoto Event to Aperture as I need to, but keeping the import as referenced files. I was hoping that Aperture would automatically update the library with new Iphoto events, but I can see the downside of this too. Hope this makes some sense and perhaps someone out there can help! SNNS.

There is no way to do what you want. You would need to import the photos from iPhoto as Managed, then use the 'Relocate Masters' command to move those out of there again.
Basically, I'm still hoping I can use Iphoto as my main repository for photos (on my external HD) imported from my camera, view them quickly, then export a new iphoto Event to Aperture as I need to,
    Why?
The inverse is actually much easier. Import to Aperture (using Referenced Masters as you want) then share your Previews with iPhoto.
Remember, Aperture is not designed to be used in conjunction with iPhoto. It's a replacement for it and the various tools included are to facilitate moving from iPhoto on to the more powerful app.

  • Newbie question - synchronizing iPhoto picture with Aperture

Hello everyone. Sorry to pop a somewhat ******** person but I'm unable to find the straight-forward answer from the forum so here I go.
I just installed Aperture 3, and was able to import the iPhoto picture albums. However, when I make picture modifications from Aperture, or import new pictures in iPhoto, both applications do not sync up. Is there a way that both Aperture, and iPhoto, can syncrhonize the changes? I'm new to this, so please pardon my ******** question.

    Hi Terence,
Thanks for the clarification. I thought Aperture works like a plug-in for providing more editing flexibility.
Now, did I do it right by "importing" the iPhoto pictures? or there's a different way (if any) that I should have done? What I've been doing in the past, is the ability to share iPhoto album with my wife on the same iMac. When I make changes or additions from my user profile, my wife can see those changes from her profile and vice versa. Will Aperture give me the same flexibility?
Thank you all for your time and feedback. I appreciate it.

  • Using iPhoto 09 with Aperture

I've been storing all my master pics in iPhoto 08, then creating versions of them in Aperture to edit. Will updating to iPhoto 09 in any way corrupt the links from iPhoto's masters to Aperture's versions?

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.

  • Using new iPhoto facilities with Aperture 2

I am new to Aperture 2 and, so far, have imported my old iPhoto library and done a bit of gentle rummaging to organise things. I've archived my old iPhoto library and removed it from my MacBook Pro. However, I now have iPhoto '09 and am eyeing the face-recognition and geotagging features.
Is there a simple way to utilise the features from within iPhoto without having to completely re-import the Aperture library? And, if so, will the tagging created in iPhoto be added to the metadata in Aperture? Maybe I'm asking too much.....

There is no integration between the products that would enable that, for now. No facial recognition in Aperture, and the metadata won't go from Aperture to iPhoto '09.
Some people here have posted enhancement requests asking for it... but there's no guarantee that Apple is reading these forums and taking down the feature requests. I'd recommend if you (like I...) want those features in Aperture, that you use Aperture's built-in "Send Feedback..." menu option.

  • Cannot integrate SASL/GSSAPI with SunOne 5.2

    Hi Sir
    I am using following configuration
    1. iPlanet directory server 5.2
    2. Solaris 9.0
    3. KDC available with solaris
    4. I am not using any SSL certificates
Goal: To be able to authenticate a ldap user thru kerberos
I have been successfully able to import all the /etc files and merge them with iplanet database. All the users are able to login as well as authenticate also.
I am facing a huge problem when I try to integrate kerberos with ldap. I have done identitymapping of GSSAPI. Also I have moved up kerberos in /etc/gss/mech. But now am I supposed to add userPassword: {KERBEROS} password ???? or to add what attributes in ldap. I am too confused. Suns own documentation is far incomplete to talk about all this. I can very well authenticate kerberos users (seperately in kerberos releam) very well but not in integration with LDAP. A new user with posix attributes can login into the system and work also. But how to get him authenticated thru kerberos ????
The result of "ldapclient list" is
    NS_LDAP_FILE_VERSION= 2.0
    NS_LDAP_SERVERS= 10.91.198.100
    NS_LDAP_SEARCH_BASEDN= dc=quark,dc=co,dc=in

    Hi,
I have problem with connecting DS 5.2 server using SASL GSSAPI from OpenLDAP client.
I have configured GSSAPI identity mappings on the DS and have KDC running on the same solaris machine.
When I do ldapsearch from the openLDAP client, I am getting the following error :
    ldapsearch -h 10.7.30.16 -Y GSSAPI -U tester1
    SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
    ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Local error (-2)
additional info: SASL(-1): generic failure: GSSAPI Error: Miscellaneous failure (Ticket expired)
Do I need to configure anything else on the client side (OpenLDAP client on the linux machine) ?? Can you please give me the steps to make this work ??
    Thanks,

  • Cannot buy IPhoto book with version 7.1.5. Can I save it and buy it from another newer mac? How do I save it?

Spent a lot of time creating an IPhoto book for Xmas gifts. When I went to purchase the books I was then told I was not able to buy any product because my IPhoto version was outdated. I tried to update to latest  IPhoto version but was then told I was not able to because my IOS operating system is too old.
I tried to update to Mavericks but I was told my Mac Mini is not able to accept the new operating system.
Looks like I need to just buy a new computer to buy some books huh?
    Any other ideas? Thank you.

but was then told I was not able to because my IOS operating system is too old.
1 - IOS is not a Mac system - it is only on mobile devices
2 - teh version of the OS is not a determination of abiliby to purchase print products using iPhoto foe the Mac - teh version of iPhoto is the determining factor
so are you saying that your version of iPhoto is too old? I think so
You can run iPhoto '11 on OS X 10.6.8 - you must purchase an iLife '11 DVD (anazon or eBay are sources) and instal iPhoto '11 - the new version of iphoto will update your library (books may change some so
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 ) - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.

  • Iphoto needs update after working with aperture

I recently opened my iphoto library with aperture (v3.5.1). Now iphoto '09 won't open the library and prompts me to update to the latest version of iphoto.
Why does Apple  force me to update / buy iphoto '11 this way?
    Is there a way around?
    Greetings and Thanx in advance!
    Stephan

There is noway around updating to a compatible iPhoto version, if you upgraded your iPhoto library to an Aperture 3.5 library. Either restore the last version of your iPhoto library that you could use with  your iPhoto version from your backup, or update to iPhoto '11 (version 9.5).
You could try to downgrade a copy of the upgraded library to iPhoto '09 with iPhoto Library Manager, but you would need the paid version, so you could rather upgrade iPhoto.

  • Since I upgraded to Maverick cannot use Iphoto '11 anymore!

Since I upgraded from Mac OX S Snow Leopard to Maverick OX  S 10.9, I cannot use IPhoto '11 and Aperture 3 anymore? Can anyone tell me what the problem could be. I cannot find a way to upgrade these programs as they don't work anymore at all!
Can I put back the Snow Leopard instead, because I tried it but also that didn't work?

Can't tell you problem with no information. What version of iOhoto do you have?  It should be version 9.5
Why can't you use them? What exactly happens? What exact error messages do you get?

  • Where is iphoto broswer in aperture?

The manual says something about the iPhoto IMport Browser, but I cannot find it in my new Aperture app. If I import the iPHoto library into my aperture library as managed files it just duplicates the files. I just want to experiment with some of the files.

It went away with iPhoto 9.3x and Aperture 3.3x because that is when the iPhoto and Aperture unified library format was introduced. You can now open your iPhoto library with Aperture and your Aperture library with iPhoto.
Apple thinks you no longer have a reason to import from iPhoto to Aperture.
If you really want to import something from iPhoto to Aperture, you can open the iPhoto library with Aperture, export the images you want as a separate library and then open your Aperture library with Aperture and import the separate library. I hope that's not too confusing.

  • HT201340 Merging iPhoto library into Aperture - what really happens?

If I merge my iPhoto library into Aperture does it mean I will have all my photos showing as projects in aperture the same as events in iPhoto? I only want to bring in my professional photos from different events in iPhoto and put them into projects to create a themed workflow and edit these in Aperture. I do not want iPhoto and Aperture to be the same.
I am extra new to the Mac invironment.
    Thankyou

Open your iPhoto library with Aperture. Select the events you want combined with your Aperture library and select File->Export Projects as library. This will create a new Aperture library with just those events. Then reopen your normal Aperture library and File->Import library and select the new library you just created.
Once you import this library, you can delete the separate library if you want.
