Cannot invert a b/w layer

In the past I have always been able to create a duplicate layer, make it b/w and then invert. I have tried select/invert, and Ctrl-I. Nothing happerns. I think I am going crazy. What have I done wrong?
Windows 7 Prof, CS6

Do you definitely have a pixel layer (and not any other type of layer such as a Shape) targeted when pressing Ctrl-i?

  • HELP! Cannot Compress Footage to Single Layer DVD...

    Here's my problem.
I cannot compress footage to single layer DVD. I'm trying to make a DVD with motion menus and a full length feature. TRT 1 hr 47 min 3 sec. I compressed the video and audio using compressor after it did not fit on one single layer DVD the first attempt. The file sizes of the newly compressed video and audio are adequate to fit on the 4.7GB DVD but after importing the into DVD Studio Pro 4 (DSP4) the disc size comes out to 5.1GB. After DSP4 does its own encoding the file sizes double. I cannot figure this out. Please help.

AS per David suggestion, get yourself on A.Pack and convert your audio to Ac3.
a link to explain how to use A.pack for a dvd project (providing that you have A.pack still, otherwise you will have to use Compressor, depending what version of the suite you have.
Still this link will help you both:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/Tutorials/ProV1/FCP.multi-channel.htm
Depending on your version of Compressor, you may have A pack or you may not...
An AIFF File could increase your project by a gig...
There shouldn't be any problem in fitting that size project on a single layer project...

  • Cannot view data on physical layer on Oracle BI administration tool

    Hi everyone
    I have a schema1 and table1, table2, table3.
I have connect in odbc using the schema username and password and it was successful.
I can view the data using toad and sql oracle developer with schema username and password.
I also import the tables in Oracle BI administration tool with my schema username and password.
But my problem is i cannot view the data on the table in physical layer using my schema username and password.
    Please help,
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I'm confused about the last bit, you did a database import to get the tables into the RPD, which worked, but now they are not showing in the phsyical layer of the rpd? They should be there under a database with the name of the ODBC/OCI that you used when you imported them.
If they are not there then this would make me think that the import of the tables has not worked, try importing just one and see what happens.

  • Inverting a levels adjustment layer

    Hi
I have a levels adjustment layer and I want the opposite of this, so I want to invert it. Does anybody know how to do this?
    222design

I suspect I am not the only person wondering what on earth you mean with the above post.  If you want the 'opposite' of the areas affected by the levels layer, invert the mask.  If you want the opposite of the improved contrast we tend to associate with levels, then still use levels, but adjust the output sliders.  Otherwise, can you explain a little better what you are trying to do?  A picture would help.

  • Cannot view layers beneath top layer

    Hi
I am facing this problem in my Adobe Photoshop CS3, where I cannot view any layer other than the topmost layer in my document window upon selecting it. It does get selected when I click on it in the layer menu, and the document window title bar does show the name of the selected layer although it continues to display the top layer instead of the one that I have selected. Also, the visibility icon (the eye) is on for all layers, so that is not the problem.
I tried resetting default settings, but this still continues to happen. Please help!
    Thanks!
    Bhumycka.
    p.s. - I use Windows Vista.

Sounds perfectly normal to me, check out this page about how layers in Photoshop work:

  • Cannot drag and drop a layer(s) from 1 PS file to another.

    Hello,
I have just installed PS CS5.1 and used 64bit version (Yes, I have restarted my PC).
I have found 2 problems straight away: when you are trying to drag and drop images from layers panel to another PS file (see image above), it won't do it like it was in CS5: the current solution is to choose them in layers panel, but start dragging them from the image window.
Another problem is with the clipboard: I cannot paste to in PS5.1 more than 1 image captured with PrintScreen: as long as I click PrintScreen only the first 1, although if I open PS5 the image captured by Prinscreen changes with out problems to the latest one. After restart I could not even paste a single picture, while pastes in other applications are working fine.
As these are 2 big issues for my current state of work, I am rolling back to PS5, until the fixes will be made.
    Regards,
    Pavel

    Hi Rahul,
It seams that not many people were using 64bit PS, since there were not many plugins available, but now there are more and more of them, and probably this bug would not be the only issue.
UPDATE: Sorry, I was wrong on the drag and drop layers from layers panel to another PS file: it probably was always unavailable, but could be a good idea for future interface solutions.
Hopefully our favourite software manufacturer Adobe will respond to our message with a hot fix
    Regards,
    Pavel

  • Does my iMac have a dual layer burner?

I'm trying to burn a 155 minute dvd. I only have 120 minute blank dvds.
I'm told I need to buy dual layer dvds but this will only work if I have a dual layer burner.
    I have a PIONEER DVD-RW  DVRTS09.
    Am I good to go?

The best way to find out if you have a Dual Layer DVD Burner, is to click  then "About This Mac" then Click on More Info, then in the new System Profiler window, on the left hand side select "Disc Burning". Youll be presented with something that looks like this (This is from my 24-inch Late 2006 iMac):
    OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A:
      Firmware Revision:          2CH9
      Interconnect:          ATAPI
Burn Support:          Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
      Cache:          2048 KB
      Reads DVD:          Yes
      CD-Write:          -R, -RW
      DVD-Write:          -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
      Write Strategies:          CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media:          To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose View > Refresh
What you'll be looking for here, in the DVD-Write section which I've bolded and underlined for quick spotting, if you have -R DL and/or +R DL, those are Dual Layer DVDs that you can write to.
***Be careful as some Macs shipped with Dual Layer Drives (MATSHITA Brand) that only burned +R DL Dual Layer DVDs, meaning you CANNOT burn -R DL Dual Layer DVDs. So make sure you verify that your drive supports the dual layer DVDs that youll be purchasing before you go to the store.

  • Usability issues with a permanently hidden layer?

    Hello,
In our application, we are required to create an object with unique properties...the object is basically an opaque grey rectangle. The properties are as follows:
only one of these objects is allowed per page
the object must be "In front" in terms of z-order
other objects cannot exist on the same layer
the object can be resized, but in a limited way (we will be working with the grab handles to help the user understand this)
We have considered a number of different ways of presenting this to the user...
    OPTION 1
make the object a 'page attribute' that can be 'enabled' or 'disabled'
when the attribute is 'enabled', it can be edited/resized
by nature, the object must be on a layer, but we will not show it in the 'layers' dialog box, thus preventing users from incorrectly re-ordering the layer or drawing additional objects on the layer
    OPTION 2
only allow this type of object to be drawn on a layer
    only allow one per layer
present the layer in the layer dialog, but do not allow the layer to be re-ordered
do not allow other Indesign objects to be drawn on the layer
For Option 1, has anyone on this forum seen plugins or indesign objects that appear on a 'hidden' layer? Or is that a 'usability faux pas'?
For Option 2, is it reasonable to create some 'rules' around a layer, limiting its properties so it can provide a unique object?
Of the two, which seems most 'inline' with Indesign's philosophy?
Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Steve

I just ran into this same problem. A rather annoying issue, since you can no longer tell when a movie will be available to rent. And a rather major programming gaff.

  • Layer Mask in Elements

Trying to darken certain portion of photo using layer mask and brushes etc. I follow instructions to the letter, but obviously am missing something.  Any thoughts to help me?

You could do something like this:
    1. add the levels adjustment layer
    2. adjust the slider to darken the areas you want (this will darken the whole photo, but just pay attention to the specific areas)
    3. Click on the levels layer mask (white box) to make it active.
    4. press Ctrl+i (cmd+i on a mac) or Filter>Adjustments>Invert (this turns the layer mask black)
    5. paint on the areas you want to darken with a white brush.

  • How to access Invert if it is grayed out?

I can't select Invert - it is grayed out.  I'm on page 112 (Lesson 4 Layer Basics) of the Classroom in a Book. Am following instructions step by step and working with Layer Styles but how to enable Invert?

You need an image layer, or layer mask selected in order to use Invert.  The image layer should not be locked, unless it is the background layer.  i.e. you can invert the Background layer despite it being locked, but you can't invert other image layers if they are locked.
The layer lock icon is at the top of the layers panel, and looks like a little padlock

  • Cannot use Trim command in CS4

I am trying to use the Trim command in CS4 (I am using Vista 64-bit).   While I've used Photoshop for several years, I use it intermittently and am a complete novice.  I am trying to create an irregularly-shaped image (a map), and am trying to cut off the white areas around the map so that I can insert it into an Indesign document.   When I click Image-Trim, and click Bottom Right Pixel Color (which is a white area of the image), I then click the bottom right corner and NOTHING HAPPENS.   Sometimes, I get a message that I cannot do this because the "layer is locked," but there are no layers except the single background layer, and I have no clue about how to "unlock" this.
Earlier, I had clicked Image-Trim and the crop-like boundaries appeared around the white areas, but I was not certain what to do after that.   I pressed Enter, but nothing happened.   I closed the image and placed it into Indesign, but the white areas still appear.
Is there a step by step description of how to do this?  It's obviously not doing what the Adobe Photoshop Help instructions say to do, which ends with "Select one or more areas of the image to trim away: Top, Bottom, Left, or Right" but doesn't say what to do after you've selected the area!!).
    Thanks in advance!

To unlock the background layer, to make it a 'real layer', just double-click it in the layers palette.
Once you have done that, you can erase any part of the image to become transparent, then you place the PSD file into InDesign.

  • Pattern Fill layer not working out of layer panel

Banging my head against the monitor!  All of a sudden I cannot make a Pattern Fill layer from the layer panel (It's greyed out).  I can create one from Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Pattern.  Can anyone tell me the stupid key I bumped to make this happen.  I had just used it yesterday.  See attatched.
    Thanks in advance!
    P.S. I'm in 8bit RGB

Can't think of anything I have done since yesterday
Have you loaded MORE patterns? There's an enormous amount in there, See if deleting some or moving them helps- use preset manager for this

  • Layer Styles seem disabled

I am teaching students and one complained he could not add any Layer Styles.  I also cannot add styles to any layer in this file.  He says he started it in a Lab on campus.  We use a deep freeze software and so the default preferences should be restored on the computers regularly.  He thinks he has had this problem before and has worked on different computers.  No one else has this problem.  So, if that's true, all I can think is that he is "doing something" when he chooses File--New.  I recently opened the projects from all of the other students in my office and this fellow's file is the only one I can't add styles to.  It's something about the file itself.  What is it?

Why are you working in 32 bits/channel mode?  That's generally just for some pretty specialty HDR stuff.  Not that layer styles shouldn't work in 32 bits mode, but try changing it to 16 bits/channel mode.
Drop Shadow doesn't always show very well against the checkerboard (transparent) background, and will be more easy to judge if you make that white Background layer visible.
What are your actual Drop Shadow settings?

Edit:  Looks like Chris nailed it.  A screenshot almost always helps get right to the bottom of problems.
