Cannot Jam along with tracks in Magic Garageband

Maybe I'm missing the point here... but are you supposed to be able to jam along with the band before you create a project?
I cannot do this as I need to go into Garageband and enable the monitor to hear my guitar, or select the correct track if I want to play my USB MIDI keyboard.
Also, there seems to be an awful lot of latency when I play a real instrument with Garageband.. there's about a 1/4 second delay between me plucking the strings and a sound coming out.
Is this normal?

That tends to read like "AppleSpeak", they tend to let you infer things.
the paragraph yo posted is all true, if you don't add the missing words, I think (or add the correct ones)
There's even a spot for you at center stage.
there is indeed (which adds to teh confusion)
Click to select your instrument, from vocals to keys bass or guitar,
Right, you select which type of track you want GB to create in the project for you.
and you can jam along.
...once you create the project.
When you are finished, click 'create project' and Magic Garageband assembles your band."
so that you can jam with it.
That's how I read it, admittedly, MGB was just a curiosity to me, I tested it once, saw how it worked, and moved on. I believe what I'm saying is correct but MGB has not gotten the beating I usually give things when testing because it didn't interest me much as a feature.

  • Monitoring while playing along with tracks

This is probably a stupid question but for some reason I can't quite figure it out.
I have recorded several tracks of audio instruments and I want to record a live guitar audio tracks onto track 1 using Guitar Rig (or similar). When I arm the track I can hear the plug-in effect but when I hit 'play' it disappears to I can't play along with my backngs (to practice!). I hear the guitar when in record mode but is there a setting I am missing to play along with my other tracks?
    Thanks

Check the settings of Software Monitoring in your audio preferences, and make sure that Auto Input Switching is on.

  • How do you copy and paste track changes material in Pages from one point in a document to another and keep both the old text along with the track changed thus far in the new pasted location?

Depending on whether track changes is on/paused, Pages thinks the pasted material is either all new and thus highlights it as a big track change or just copies the old material along with the edits as plain text so that I cannot see my track changes. I need to be able to copy and paste in the same document and still be able to see the older text along with the changes to certain sections thus far. Is this possible? I need a step-by-step "talk to me like I'm five" instructional if what I would like can be done.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,
I tried opening it from the application folder and nothing happens.   I have tried from the dock and the same thing.  Unfortunately this is not the application that I ws intending to work on.  This was running perfectly fine for me.  I have a lot of music on it.  I know all is still there because I can see it through spotify.  I started looking for help with Face time with came up with a needing proper credentials in order to open.  Now neither open after a 9 an automatic download of nine updates.  At this point I don't know what else to do.

  • Is it possible to set up a jam session with a friend over the internet in Garageband on iPad?

Is it possible to set up a jam session with a friend over the internet in Garageband on iPad?
Or is there any other way to set up a communication session where we can do a musical jam session via the internet?

Garageband has no network collaboration functions that I know of. Whether there's some other software that will do that I don't know; perhaps someone else here will have a suggestion.
    Regards.

  • Tracking change log by workstation ID along with username

    Hi All users,
I am using SAP business one 8.8 and want to track changes in the system in such a way that along with user name I want to know, from which workstation (or PC) the user has made changes or created any document? Every PC has its unique IP or ID, can I see this in change log in any way? that from which workstation or client PC, the user has made changes?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Farhan Sufi

    Dear Gordon,
Thanks for your reply, Actually I need only workstation ID along with user name when tracking transaction log from the tools option "change log".
I am calling it workstation ID, but you can tell me about any thing from which I can track, from which client or PC the user made any transaction. Whether It gives me computer IP or computer name or any identity of PC by which I can know which PC (among server and clients) is used by user to make any transaction.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks,
    Farhan

  • How to use track effects with new version of GarageBand

In the version of GarageBand before this one, you could access different effects that you could manage and apply to the different tracks.  Each track had an area containing its set of effects that were either activated or deactivated.  With this removed, i am not sure how to add those same kind of effects.  I am aware of the new nobs that are provided in order to mix and edit trebles, bass, mid, etc., but i want to be able to add different effects such as voice transformer, flanger, chorus, speech enhancer, bit crusher, bass amp, track echo, track reverb, amplifier, etc.  I desperately need help finding out how to do this, as this was a major part of my mixing and producing with GarageBand, and without these given effects, i do not feel as comfortable using GarageBand.

  • I Cannot Select instruments/scroll over them in Magic Garageband

When I scroll over the instruments on magic garageband they don't light up and i cannot click on them. Why is this?

In my GarageBand '11 installation on Mavericks, the GarageBand effects are all still available.
See for example for a Rock organ:
Are the effects properly installed in your sytem library? Check the folder
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/
If not, try to restore them from an older backup. Does your Time Machine backup go back far enough in time?

  • An Idea: How to make the Magic Timeline work with Tracks

i have thought about this for a title and i think i have found a solution. the magic timeline is pretty cool but with it we lost tracks. for broadcast (not only for that but mostly for it) you need tracks that are assignt in a special way and there is no way around it. so i came up with the following idea…
to make the magic timeline work with tracks it will be a like an audio compound clip, that will give you full access to the magic time. but it can be outputted to proper tracks assignment.
current audio compound clips don't show you the video if there is one. this one will. also audio can be tagged to a track so it will automatically drop into the right track. you can of course move the audio from one track to another. moving the clip to another track will auto change the tag to new track. if you copy an audio clip from one track to another, the original clip will keep its tag but the copied one gets the new tag.
    example…
you do a voice over with all your edits and stuff. then you collapse it to a track (new name to get rid of any sort of confusion). you can tag/name the track to "voice over" or whatever you want and color label it.
you need to edit, adjust it? no problem! double click it and it will open up and you'll see the magic timeline. edit till you done and click on arrow to return to track view.
export your movie with proper tracks for broadcast right out of final cut pro x
in the end your output timeline looks like a timeline from fcp7 before you output it on tape.
could this work? i believe it could and it would help to make fcpx ready for broadcast.
i hope this makes some sort of sense to you
anyway, i hope apple will include this or something like this in an update for fcpx.

You may be able to get by with just running MDT 2010 for now. *However* you *must* ensure that you are running WinPE 3.1 or greater, If you are unsure, open up a command prompt in WinPE (PRess F8), and run "ver" it should say build 7601 or greater, 7600
    and less is not compatible.
When done, Run the Dell Advanced Format tool in the Full OS on a deployed machine to verify:  http://del.ly/afhdd  Although it is possible to install an OS on an Advanced Format Drive
with WInPE 3.0 or earlier, and it may *appear* to work, performance may suffer. The Dell AF tool should tell you if the sectors are aligned properly.
Additionally, it is also possible that the storage driver you have installed in your image is incompatible with AF drives. Check the Make/Model and check with the Hardware Mfg to see if they have driver that supports AF drives.

  • Using Garageband amp simulators to play along with iTunes

Its probably a bug, but if iPod is playing a song and you open Garageband in iPad, iPod keeps playing. So you can configure an input and turn on input monitoring with and amp simulator to play along with iPod without having to import anything. However, the iPod play controls are not enabled. Double click the home button and swipe right to change the song, and the iPod controls are not enabled - it thinks the iPod doesn't have audio control.
Instead of fixing the bug by turning off iPod audio (the way most audio apps work), Apple should fix it by enabling the play controls. Then Garageband has a nice and simple way to play along with iPod tunes leveraging the iPad multi-tasking features, without having to do song imports.

Cool tip dude! I just tried it and it works a treat with the synths too. I panned the synth over to one side to try and separate the sounds out, which worked a bit but would be nice if I could pan itunes the other way. Great workaround for practicing and figuring out chords/keys etc. Thanks!

  • Backing up selected folders along with their metadata

My Podcast folder in the itunes Music folder has grown up to 15 GB and I need to free up some space.
Is there a way I can just move out a portion of this folder (or any folder for that matter) along with its metadata. and then easily have it back in my library at a later stage.
And if I move out some podcast series all together, will the subscription remain intact?

The easiest solution is to move your entire library to a new location, but if you want to do a partial move use either the XML editing or Symbolic linking methods. I've copied below from an earlier (slighty Windows-centric I'm afraid) posting on this topic.
    *Moving your iTunes Music folder*
OK, so you’re running out of room on your main hard drive for all that music you’ve ripped from your CD’s – it’s time to relocate some or all of the library to another drive, e.g. a nice chunky USB external drive. You could give iTunes total control – see Moving your iTunes Music folder (Mac) - and ask it to "consolidate" your library onto your new drive, letting it rename your files in the process. However I like to be in control, for example I want to keep all my classical & comedy tracks in separate folders and I don’t want my track names truncated. I also don't necessarily want to move all my library to the external drive – just the stuff I play less often so that it's not the end of the world if I've taken the drive into work. You could try and manually delete, move & re-import sections of your library. The downside is that it takes ages and you will lose any related metadata such as play counts, last played, date added, playlist membership etc. Another approach is given here: HOWTO: Move your iTunes music while preserving library data (when you don’t let iTunes manage your music library) but that involves a lot of messing about with XML and when iTunes gets around to rebuilding your library it will probably want to reprocess all the artwork & gapless playback information. Also each of the above methods will probably result in iTunes deciding that your files have "changed" in some way and so need to be resynced to the iPod, wasting yet more time.
There is an easier way... use symbolic links or junction points. These are little known features of the NTFS & HPFS filing systems that let you take an empty folder and instead of filling it with content you make it point to existing content in another location such as an external drive. Although Mac OS X, Windows XP & Vista all support symbolic links none appear to come with any tools to help you create them so you'll have to grab something from the net. For Windows XP I've plumped for Junction Link Magic but you should explore the concept a little before diving in so you might find another tool that suits you better. Once you've got and tested a linking tool just move a section of your library (or all of it if so inclined) to a new location with enough room for it, create a blank folder to replace the folder you've just moved, then fire up your linking tool to connect the empty folder to the new destination. Once done, as far as iTunes or any other applications are concerned your music is where it always was... however your main data drive should now have loads of extra space. Job done!
A final word of caution. Don't forget what you've done and start deleting what might appear to be duplicate files. In my case my Comedy folder is now at both D:\My Documents\My Music\Comedy (where iTunes expects to find it) & H:\Music\Comedy (the true physical location) however there is only one set of files and deleting from either apparent location will delete from both. Deleted files from such locations may also be immediately deleted rather than going to the recycle bin from where they could be recovered so a little more thought should be given to deleting files.
