Cannot Join My Network

My Airport Express wireless network is visible on my iPad.
After typing in the password, the join button doesn't come on until I turn off the keyboard.
Once the keyboard's back on, I click Join and get absolutely nothing.
The network is working on my Macbook.
I tried the brightness thing and got nothing. I've reset network settings and got nothing.
Any suggestions?
I find all of this very tiresome. It should work out of the box but doesn't. Very disappointed.

There are some issues with WiFi, but I may can help you.
First after you entered the password go to "Settings - Wi-Fi" and tap on the arrow in the blue circle. Now you should see the details of your internet connection, check the "IP Address", if it starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then tap on the button labeled "Static" and enter the IP, Subnet Mask, Router, and DNS.
Usually the SubnetMask is 255.255.255.0
The Router depends on your router configuration and is usually something like 192.168.X.1, where X varies. (check the router or an other computer to find out about it)
The IP has to be same like the router except the last number if you are not sure about the configuration of your router, then use 149.
Last and very important is the DNS, if you don't know what it is, then use 8.8.8.8 or 208.67.222.222
good luck
enjoy your magic machine

  • Cannot join WiFi network?

I cannot join our WiFi network at the office on my phone, but I can join it on another person's iPhone. Do you have any suggestions.....Please?
    Thanks a lot,
    Howard

You haven't given us much to go on.
Can you connect to other wireless networks from your phone?
Are you getting any error messages?
What kind of security does the office network have (WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA Enterprise)?
Is it a "classic" or a 3G phone?
What version of firmware is on your phone?
The two most common reasons you can't connect to a network are an incorrect passphrase and a router with out of date firmware. The fact that another iPhone connects makes the out-of-date firmware an unlikely cause. Next is a router that is set to only recognize specific devices, called MAC filtering (MAC is Media Access Control, not a computer type). If the router does this the WiFi address of your phone (settings/general/about) must be added to the router "allow" table by your admin.
To test the first reason go to Settings/WiFi, tap on the arrow to the right of the network SSID and tap "Forget this network". Then try to connect again and enter the passphrase very carefully.

  • TS1398 cannot join the network

Just recently my phone will not connect to the wireless network (previously used networks).  I've tried resetting the networks, that did not work.  I get the error message saying "unable to join the network"

I have followed ALL steps!! I guess I'm not making myself clear.  At home, I've turned everything off, and on, and reset networks on my phone.  However, my phone still gives me an error message "unable to join network ...".  At my house, it will work in one room and not the next.  I am currently at a hotel, and I get the error message in my hotel room, but it connects without issue in the meeting room (using the same network) For some reason it is selective.  On the flip side, my iPad has no issue connecting to the same networks, with the same router and modem.

  • Lion cannot join my networks

I installed Lion this morning so I could manage my new Airport Extreme with the latest Airport Utility. But now the computer can't join the network. It shows the two network names I am using, but when I try to join either one of them (with a WPA2 password) it rejects the passwords and claims they're wrong. But I'm certain they aren't wrong. Once in a while it will accept the password, then come back in a few seconds saying it has been unable to connect and timed out. The iMac is two rooms away from the Airport Extreme, easily within range, with an RSSI of -47.

  • Cannot join existing network

    Grrrr this is getting annoying..!
Have an airport express bought 1-2 years ago for use with an old g4. Has been in the cupboard for sometime and now I want to use it with my new MBP.
The AE works fine running its own network; can link to airtunes successfully. However I cannot get it to sit on an existing wireless AT ALL, after hours of trying. Airport utility seems to set it up ok, until it waits for the AE to restart. It sits there for ages before telling me there is a problem and it cannot find the Ae, which disappears completely. I have reset many times and redone this, and upgarded the firmware, with no success.
(The existing network is on a Thomson ADSL Speedtouch modem/router. This should work shouldn't it? It doesn't have to be an Apple airport router does it?)
please, if you can help me....
    Thanks!

Ok, so in response to my own thread, in case anyone reads this...
Sorry, I now see lots of this people with this problem around. My answer was to re-upload the firmware via an ethernet cable rather than wirelessly. I now have a nice green light and tunes from my cones. Praise the lord...

  • Cannot join guest network

I have  a 2TB time capsule, where the primary network works well - all devises log on as anticipated - but trying to log on to the same time capsue on the guest network is not working - on the iPad the wheel continue spinning, and the computers will not log on to it. The guest network is configured the exact same way as the primary network - just with a different password. Ideas?

The Time Capsule needs to be connected to a simple modem for the guest network feature to work correctly.
If you have a combination modem/router or gateway type of device, then the guest nework will not function correctly with that type of device.
To see if this might be your problem.....can you provide the make and model number of your modem.....so that we can check to see what type of device that you have?

  • Successfully setup Airport- devices cannot join network

I've set up my Airport Extreme (green indicator light):
I created a network & a guest network. I cannot join either network with my wireless devices (they have no problem with other networks).
Is it incorrect for me to use the passwords I created in Airport Utility?

I cheated: I did a copy-and-paste and the password worked. Unfortunately I can't do that with Apple TV. Is it possible that some letters (characters) generated by Keychain aren't compatible with 'remote' input?

  • HT5569 When I attempt to choose the wi fi network I set up my iPhone message says "unable to join the network."  It's my network!

Recently, my iphone 4s lost connection with the wifi network I set up on my imac desktop.  The message I receive is "unable to join the network..."
Can anyone offer a solution to this problem?  Thanks!

Oh, so the problem has nothing at all to do with the iPhone ... it is that you cannot remember the network password!  No wonder the iPhone cannot join the network.
Why not simply destroy the network and set up a new one with a password you remember?

  • Computer will not join wifi network.  Please hep

I've used it at my home, in the airport, and cafes, and it worked flawlessly, but now in my girlfriend's house I cannot join their network. I even installed a brand new Linksys router today and it still will not join. It finds the network SSID but refuses to join it. All other computers in the house have no problems.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Jason,
Yes, other Macs, a MacBook Pro & Black MacBook, are connected to the network. The original router had WEP security and this router has WPA2 Personal security.
I just realized my iPhone won't connect to it either. I'll try resetting it with no encryption.
How do I make a new network location?
    Thank you!

  • Cannot join time capsule airport network from iPad 2 or iPhone 4

I have recently setup a new time capsule airport base station network with my new iMac (27-inch, late 2012) running OSX 10.8.2. Wi-Fe network works fine for internet access and printing from the iMac but I cannot join the wi-fi network from our iPad 2 or iphones. The network is seen in the wi-fi setup when wi-fi is turned on with the ipad and phone but does not establish a connection. An IP address and subnet mask show under the DHCP settings but the connection is not established. (Continuous revolving wheel).
    Any help would be appreciated.

The airport utility in Mountain Lion is a toyland version.. see bottom of post for installing v5.6 which improves the ability to actually make the TC do what you want.
For whatever reason the iphone/ipad seem sensitive to wireless channels.. which Apple auto rotate.. I think it is bluetooth connection stuff.
Anyhow jump in and set the following.
Wireless should have strictly SMB names.. short no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    Use WPA2 Personal security.
Lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. try in the following order.. 11, 6, 1 (those are the only non-overlapping channels) you can try in turn for which is best but if 11 works well stick to it.. Outside USA you can also use 13.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

My iphone 4s cannot join a public unsecured network, but my ipad and macbook can with no problems.  I have reset the network settings on the iphone twice.  Both times that fixed the problem but only for a few minutes, then I get the "cannot join network" message again.  Please help!  What can I do?

  • MacBook Pro sees wireless networks but cannot join any. Connection timeout error

I have a MacBook Pro here that sees all wireless networks but cannot join any. It gives a connection timeout error with every one.
Internet access via ethernet cable works just fine.

It's not uncommon for you to "see" a great many networks, dozens even, yet you not be able to connect to any of them even if they are "open" (no lock icon). There may be a number of reasons for that, such as they're too weak for a reliable connection, or the router may limit connections to only specified devices.
There is only one way to achieve a reliable network connection, and that's for you to connect to your own wireless router. Even that doesn't work if its signal is too weak or if there are many competing wireless networks in your area.
If it's your own AirPort Base Station you're trying to use but can't, the latter could be the reason. The only way to mitigate the effects of wireless interference is to use 802.11n and 5 GHz whenever practicable. Even today you may only find one or two 5 GHz networks being used in an otherwise "crowded" area.

  • Cannot join network after ios update

After ios update i cannot join on my ipad network

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
