Cannot join wi fi network

I've been having problems ever since updating to 7.02.  Now I can't join a Wi Fi network that I've been using all along.  Any help?

Hello there drewt123,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are having some wifi connectivity issues after updating to iOS 7.0.2
I want to recommend this article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
If that does not resolve your issue, I would next follow either of these 2 sections from toward the bottom of the article depending on the situation.

  • Airport Extreme - Cannot join a wireless network

I just purchased the Airport Extreme and cannot get it to find a wireless network. In the Airport Utility I receive the following messages, "Joining a wireless network….An error occurred joining the selected wireless network.". I cannot proceed past this point. When I select "manual" configure I get the same error message. I've tried repeatedly disconnecting the cable & power from the modem and the airport extreme and then restarting but nothing happens. Any advice would be appreciated!

If you have a cable modem, you will need to power it off for at least 15-20 minutes and pull the battery if is has one as it is remembering the last device (probably your computer) that is was connected to. Power it back up after 20 minutes and connect the ethernet cable to the WAN port on the AEBS.
Suggest you do a factory default reset to clear the corrupted settings and start over again on the AEBS
    Power down the AEBS
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after approximately 8-10 seconds
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS to help AirPort Utility connect with the device.
You will be configuring the AEBS to "Share a public IP address" and "create a wireless network. The guided setup will step you through.

  • Cannot join domain "the network path was not found"

    Hi there.
As I wanted to install new Microsoft  Lync Server, I tried to prepare a virtual machine for this. For some reason I used a virtual machine that I tested for some another services, therefore it had some changes on it.
As you know before installing Lync Server your client must be join a domain and when I tried to joined it I faced with this error "The following error occurred attempting
to join the domain “ysatech”; the network path was not found "
Before my search, I thought it was DNS problem. I checked DNS but nothing was wrong.
I searched for it and I read some forums answers and I resolved it:
As I said my client server had some changes, the problem was in the NIC but not about DNS or WINS. The "Client for Microsoft Networks" of
NIC of my domain network was not checked and it must be checked.

Check the dns setting on client and ensure the setting as below.
    1. Each workstation/member server should point to local DNS server as primary DNS and other remote DNS servers as secondary.
    2. Do not set public DNS server in TCP/IP setting of client/member server.
    3. If multiple NIC are configured disable the unrequired NIC.Check the NIC binding order too.
This issue may occur if the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is not running on the client computer.

I will also recommend to enable the Client for Microsoft Networks. If still issue persist post the ipconfig /all details of client computer.

  • Ibook cannot join my wired network

I am trying to find out why my ibook can wirelessly surf the web, but cannot access my G5 which is connected via ethernet cable. When I go to browse to look for the other two wired computers, they do not appear. I have turned on sharing on the G5 and the Macbook, but no go. I have 2 routers, Belkin and Linksys... both of which have put out wireless signals. Ideas anyone?

Could it be that the iBook is finding the router to which the other computers are not connected?
You may need to change the router that you're using as wired to a b/g setting. If it is set to g only, it would explain why the iBook cannot connect with that router. If it is, indeed, an iBook G3, it utilizes the 802.11b standard.

  • *** on wifi for the eIOS    what a mistake I made upgrading  Cannot join any wifi network

any help out there, another apple screw up

I don't know why some are having this issue, my wifi works great...even faster than before. It seems like wifi connection issues might need to be addressed with this update though as it seems people are having a common problem. My only solution for you might be to reset your router, wipe your device clean and restore with previous 5.1.1. Try again in a week or so.

  • TS3304 cannot join networks on wi-fi on ipad or iphone

All of a sudden in the last week I cannot join the wireless network for either IPAD1, IPAD2 or Iphone. Does this have something to do with the updated software (5.1.1) on these devices or my Comcast router? We've called Comcast and Apple and resetting the wireless nework on the devices does not seem to help. Please advise.

Longshot, but try changing your brightness setting & then try connecting.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Cannot join WiFi network?

I cannot join our WiFi network at the office on my phone, but I can join it on another person's iPhone. Do you have any suggestions.....Please?
    Thanks a lot,
    Howard

You haven't given us much to go on.
Can you connect to other wireless networks from your phone?
Are you getting any error messages?
What kind of security does the office network have (WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA Enterprise)?
Is it a "classic" or a 3G phone?
What version of firmware is on your phone?
The two most common reasons you can't connect to a network are an incorrect passphrase and a router with out of date firmware. The fact that another iPhone connects makes the out-of-date firmware an unlikely cause. Next is a router that is set to only recognize specific devices, called MAC filtering (MAC is Media Access Control, not a computer type). If the router does this the WiFi address of your phone (settings/general/about) must be added to the router "allow" table by your admin.
To test the first reason go to Settings/WiFi, tap on the arrow to the right of the network SSID and tap "Forget this network". Then try to connect again and enter the passphrase very carefully.

  • Cannot join time capsule airport network from iPad 2 or iPhone 4

I have recently setup a new time capsule airport base station network with my new iMac (27-inch, late 2012) running OSX 10.8.2. Wi-Fe network works fine for internet access and printing from the iMac but I cannot join the wi-fi network from our iPad 2 or iphones. The network is seen in the wi-fi setup when wi-fi is turned on with the ipad and phone but does not establish a connection. An IP address and subnet mask show under the DHCP settings but the connection is not established. (Continuous revolving wheel).
    Any help would be appreciated.

The airport utility in Mountain Lion is a toyland version.. see bottom of post for installing v5.6 which improves the ability to actually make the TC do what you want.
For whatever reason the iphone/ipad seem sensitive to wireless channels.. which Apple auto rotate.. I think it is bluetooth connection stuff.
Anyhow jump in and set the following.
Wireless should have strictly SMB names.. short no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    Use WPA2 Personal security.
Lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. try in the following order.. 11, 6, 1 (those are the only non-overlapping channels) you can try in turn for which is best but if 11 works well stick to it.. Outside USA you can also use 13.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

My iphone 4s cannot join a public unsecured network, but my ipad and macbook can with no problems.  I have reset the network settings on the iphone twice.  Both times that fixed the problem but only for a few minutes, then I get the "cannot join network" message again.  Please help!  What can I do?

  • MacBook Pro sees wireless networks but cannot join any. Connection timeout error

I have a MacBook Pro here that sees all wireless networks but cannot join any. It gives a connection timeout error with every one.
Internet access via ethernet cable works just fine.

It's not uncommon for you to "see" a great many networks, dozens even, yet you not be able to connect to any of them even if they are "open" (no lock icon). There may be a number of reasons for that, such as they're too weak for a reliable connection, or the router may limit connections to only specified devices.
There is only one way to achieve a reliable network connection, and that's for you to connect to your own wireless router. Even that doesn't work if its signal is too weak or if there are many competing wireless networks in your area.
If it's your own AirPort Base Station you're trying to use but can't, the latter could be the reason. The only way to mitigate the effects of wireless interference is to use 802.11n and 5 GHz whenever practicable. Even today you may only find one or two 5 GHz networks being used in an otherwise "crowded" area.

  • Cannot join network after ios update

After ios update i cannot join on my ipad network

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • TS1398 i cannot join my home wifi network

i cannot join my home wifi network even after restarting network settings. it gives error unable to join the network. but i can join wifi at other place. and my another phone is accessing wifi at home. i restart the router all basic troubleshoot i have done but yet in vain. please someone help me out.

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Try changing the security on the router. Starts with no security as a test.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Successfully setup Airport- devices cannot join network

I've set up my Airport Extreme (green indicator light):
I created a network & a guest network. I cannot join either network with my wireless devices (they have no problem with other networks).
Is it incorrect for me to use the passwords I created in Airport Utility?

I cheated: I did a copy-and-paste and the password worked. Unfortunately I can't do that with Apple TV. Is it possible that some letters (characters) generated by Keychain aren't compatible with 'remote' input?

  • TS1398 I cannot join with a nearby Wi-Fi network.  We have wi-fi in our apt. and our IBM laptop is connecting with no problem; but, when I try to use my iPod touch, the wi-fi is locked and asks for a password.  I do not know it.

How do I join with the network that is in our apt?  The iPod asks for a password and I do not have one.  What to do?

You have to enter the correct password to connect.
Ask the person who setup the router for the password.

  • AirPort Express Cannot Join Network

    Hello all,
I've tried searching and can't find this exact issue; please forgive me it's a dup.
I just purchased an AirPort Express to use with several Windows XP machines for AirTunes and printer sharing. I already have wifi set up using a 2Wire 270HG modem/wireless router.
Using the AirPort Utility, I can see the AX and go through the steps to "Connect to my current wireless network" and then "Join my wireless network". I give it my network name, password, etc., and it reprograms the AX but is then never able to connect to in after the restart.
I initially thought this was due to using WEP (even though adding $ before my passkey did not help), but I have since switched to WPA-PSK and am having the same results. Admittedly, I wasn't sure which of the WPA settings in the AirPort Utility to select, but I've tried both with no luck.
I have reset the AX and run through the setup at least 10 times! Really not sure where to go from here, except to turn off all security on the router and just use MAC address filtering to keep out the neighbors... but this seems like a pretty bad system.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Drew

Well, it looks like I've been wasting my time.
At the end of running the Utility wizard, I get the error:
"An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure you network connection is valid and try again."
It then tells me it was unable to find the base station after restarting and forces me to quit the AirPort Utility. When I restart the Utility, it can then see the base station and everything works fine.
So, basically, I've spent the whole night troubleshooting a meaningless error message when everything was working fine.
Great. Can anyone explain why it's reporting this error if everything is fine?
    Thanks again.
