Cannot join WiFi network?

I cannot join our WiFi network at the office on my phone, but I can join it on another person's iPhone. Do you have any suggestions.....Please?
Thanks a lot,
Howard

You haven't given us much to go on.
Can you connect to other wireless networks from your phone?
Are you getting any error messages?
What kind of security does the office network have (WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA Enterprise)?
Is it a "classic" or a 3G phone?
What version of firmware is on your phone?
The two most common reasons you can't connect to a network are an incorrect passphrase and a router with out of date firmware. The fact that another iPhone connects makes the out-of-date firmware an unlikely cause. Next is a router that is set to only recognize specific devices, called MAC filtering (MAC is Media Access Control, not a computer type). If the router does this the WiFi address of your phone (settings/general/about) must be added to the router "allow" table by your admin.
To test the first reason go to Settings/WiFi, tap on the arrow to the right of the network SSID and tap "Forget this network". Then try to connect again and enter the passphrase very carefully.

  • Could not join "wifi network name".  A connection timeout occurred.

    Mac Pro running 10.7.5.
Whenever the computes wakes from sleep or logs in, it no longer automatically connects to my wifi network.  When I manually select the network for from the Wi-Fi status in the menu bar, I get the following message:  Could not join "wifi network name".  A connection timeout occurred.
Even though I get that message the machine joins the network with no other problems.  I am led to believe that is is on the Mac Pro as my Macbook and iPad/iPhone join the network with no issues.
I have tried deleting and restoring the preferred network, and remember networks is checked.  I have also restored my airport express base station.
    Any suggestions?

  • Computer will not join wifi network.  Please hep

I've used it at my home, in the airport, and cafes, and it worked flawlessly, but now in my girlfriend's house I cannot join their network. I even installed a brand new Linksys router today and it still will not join. It finds the network SSID but refuses to join it. All other computers in the house have no problems.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    Hi Jason,
Yes, other Macs, a MacBook Pro & Black MacBook, are connected to the network. The original router had WEP security and this router has WPA2 Personal security.
I just realized my iPhone won't connect to it either. I'll try resetting it with no encryption.
How do I make a new network location?
    Thank you!

  • Turning Off Join WiFi Network

Is there anyway to turn off the join wifi network alerts, that come everytime I want to go on the internet, or I start up my iPhone and to Safari? I never can join any of them, anyway. It's annoying to always get this window, and it's intrusive when you are trying to do something else. Thanks for any help.

    Hi bpahi,
Welcome to the Palm forums! The Palm Pre should connect to an Airport access point; however, there are some things you need to check.
First, what version of the Airport do you have? Is it the Apple Airport Extreme? If so, check the settings on the Airport. This access point supports 802.11n which is a mode that the Pre is not compatible with. You need to enable 802.11g for your Pre to connect to it.
Also, I think you mean 802.11x (802.1x is a security system that is commonly used in Enterprise wireless networks and very rarely used in home configurations). The most common versions of home Wi-Fi networks are 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n. Of those, only 802.11b and 802.11g are supported by the Pre.

  • Can there be a hardware issue on the iPad that causes you to unable to join wifi networks or only if you are within 5 feet of routers?

I used to be able to connect my iPad to my house wifi network walking all over my house then one day it stopped.  When i tried to connect to my network I would get an message saying "Unable to Join network".  I found that if i was within 5 feet of my router it would connect and work just fine.  At the same time I tried it at multiple other networks that I have before (girlfriends and other friends houses) and could not connect with same issue.  Only place I can connect is my work wifi.
Can connect to wifi with my iPhone with no issues
I have reset my network connections

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
Try This - Renew IP Address:
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Can't join wifi network

My iPhone5 does not make a connection to my MiFi network, the little dial just spins around — my wife's phone connects readily.

    Hi Lawrence,
I am still not able to join the wifi network.
I receive an error saying that the username or password are wrong, although I have user the same credentials to join the same wifi network on my mac and it works perfectly.
Resetting the network settings did not help....

  • Playbook cannot find WIFI networks

Hi, I have a new Playbook 16gb wifi and the wifi isn't working. Essentially what happened was after I completed the initial setup it prompted me to install an OS update after which the WIFI stopped working. I cannot connect to any network no matter the type a/b/g/n, the frequency, the channel or the mode. I have tried on two Netgear routers, 1 DLink and 1 iPhone (used as a hot spot). I have tried PBS using the actual button and the PIN but neither works. It just cannot find any networks.
I tried resetting to factory defaults but that has made the situation worse because I am now stuck at the setup screen with no networks to complete setup. I can't connect to the desktop software either because the installation hasn't completed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    David

    Hello
Were you able to fix the wifi issue ?
I have successfully reloaded QNX OS on the Playbook using Desktop manager.
    Version 1.0.7.2942 was loaded.
I still have the same problem, it is impossible to connect to the wifi network.
I have tried wpa2, wpa and wep , nothing works. I have tried at over 10 different routers.  I tried with routers where other playbook wifi works well, but this one playbook won't connect, I always get the same error while trying to pair to the network, it doesn't event get to the acquiring IP address phase.
    Thanks

  • Able to join wifi network, but cant connect to web or itunes

Picked up 16 GB iPod Touch today at Best Buy. Able to sync music ok. No problems with sound quality using good earphones.
Touch is good but takes a fair amount of pressure. Guess I will get adapted
Able to join my home wifi network, but cant connect to an website or ITunes wifi- says it can't find the server. I entered my WEP key and pressed join. I have a wifi icon with 3 bars. Did I miss a step?
Am converting a few tv shoes so I can test video

Did you try putting it to sleep/turning it back on. It originally did that for me, I put in my key for my network (which is hard, as its many many digits and letters) and it said it couldn't find the server. I turned it off, and back on, started up the iTunes store, and it connected automatically and worked.

  • All of the sudden can't join wifi networks

All of the sudden this morning I can't join any wifi networks, it always gives me the "Unable to Join the network "network name" error message.
I tried a soft reset, then did a complete Iphone restore with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi again,
    Mine's fixed. Here's what I did:
    - In Mail go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced Behaviors
    - At the bottom of those options, under "Trash" uncheck the box for "Move deleted messages to the trash mailbox" (I have multiple accounts and did this for each one, whether it was an active account or not.)
    - Close Preferences and check mail. Delete a few items you couldn't delete before.
    - Under the Trash mailbox icon on the left, I deleted the Trash mailbox called "On My Mac" because it was the one generating the error.
    - Go back to preferences and re-check that box you just unchecked for "Move deleted messages"
Fixed. I'm sure all these steps weren't necessary, but wanted to share it just as I did it. Hope this helps.

  • I'm unable to join wifi network with talk talk

I can join another network but not my home one keeps coming up unable to join network. I have updated soft wear but no good

What security settings are configured on the talk talk WiFi network?
Did you enter the correct WiFi username and password when connecting to the WiFi network?

  • Cannot recognize wifi networks

My laptop is hardwired to a wi-fi network and works fine. However, when I take it elsewhere, it does not recognize any wireless networks - including the hard-wired one -- other devises and computers recognize it fine, so it must be the laptop. If anyone could direct me to what to do, I'd appreciate it.

You cannot hardwire to a wifi network, only the ethernet can be hardwired. If you cannot connect to any wifi your adapter may be turned off or it's possible you don't have wifi installed. Is the wifi icon lit?  switch on? press FN+F5 and see if it reports as being on.

  • Green Light When Join Wifi Network But...

my question is on my airport extreme model (MB053LL/A) I have asked it to join my 3g wifi router on setup, which it has done with a green light appearing, but now I can't see the base station in my wifi and it looks like my wifi is only connecting to the 3g router not the base station.
What is happening in this situation?
What is the base station connected to as it has a green light?

I think you answered my question with the green light and "no routing connection" when you said:
The setting is virtually useless on an AirPort Extreme, because the Extreme has no audio capability, and it performs no routing functions when it is configured to "join" a network.
Since I thought the base station had connected to my 3g router and I saw the green light I assumed the base station could be used as a wifi extender. I know I'm wrong now.
I have read others who also thought they could get a 3g router's wifi to be repeated without wires through the express and extreme base stations. It seems such a pity Apple hasn't an option to do that or to let a user have the ability to use a 3g dongle in the usb port yet. I hate wires and love wireless. I do have another 3g router from Tp-Link that has an ethernet cable which I can insert into the WAN port of the extreme.
So in essence you should have one extreme base station connected to the internet through a cable with an external appliance like a printer or external hard drive in the USB port if you wish and then one or more airport express's to repeat and extend the wifi signal if needed.

  • IOS4 software bug #2 - Joining WIFI networks disables 3G

I would best explain this software bug as the iPad Wifi issue in reverse! The iPhone 3GS forgets how to reconnect to the 3G network after joining Wi-Fi.
In my case the 3G issues occur when wifi networks are in range and Ask to Join Networks is set to ON.
This procedure seems to help me have a fairly reliable 3G reception:
    1) Keep Settings/Wi-Fi/Ask to Join Networks/OFF.
    2) I also found that turning Wi-Fi OFF when leaving my house, seems to reduce 3G issues on the road.
    3) If a 3G issue occurs anyways with the above settings, turning off the phone for a minute will resolve the issue again. Sometimes it may still be necessary to Reset Network Settings
    Regards

    i am having similar probs....
I am hoping someone here can help me. I'm not a wiz with technology but here goes. I bought my iphone3g a month ago. It never seemed to connect to the wifi i searched on here and someone posted a message about putting a number thread on the dns bit of wi fi details it was fantastic worked great I was very happy. The problem has evolved after 2.0.2 update. Or at least I think that is why it's happened. Now my phone will not connect to my wi fi at home (it's a bt voyager 2500v-3b model). under wi fi settings the voyager is there with a tick next to it.Wi fi is on. In settings-general-network it is there. But my wifi will not work. the signal for it does not show up on my phone. The wifi is working because I'm using right now on my laptop) I've tried turning airplane mode on and off...turning phone on and off...iphone restore...i've tried 'forget this network' and starting again but nothing!! When i use safari it seems to be really slow but thats because the phone is using the (not edge/3g..the other one sorry cant remember its name) network. Is this a 2.0.2 issue? it worked brilliantly before i wish i had never updated new version. PLease if anyone could help me. I loved my i phone before its capabilities were great.. but now it doesn't do what i loved about it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks from a disheartened iphone lover

  • New modem, now my iPhone 4 can't join wifi network

Can anyone help? My Verizon modem died, and I received the new modem today from Verizon. I plugged it in, and was able to get my laptop to connect to wifi with no problem, but my iPhone 4 will not connect. I select the network, enter the password, and it says "Unable to join the network." I've tried turning the phone off and back on, and turned off the modem, unplugged it (power cord and phone line), plugged it back in and turned it back on, and still no luck. Any ideas?

        Hello emilyah9!
Let's get that device connected to your Wifi signal! You have already done what I would have suggested first, which is reset the router. You've also already powered the device off and on. Please reset the network settings on your device to see if that gets this resolved. Here is the link: http://vz.to/100ziru
Lastly, please try turning off the Wifi on your iPhone 4, then turn it back on and try to connect.
    Keep me posted, thanks!
