Cannot keep an internet connection

I did not have the problem with my last computer, but with this new Gateway I bought, I can keep an internet connection for about 5-10 minutes, then I will lose it for 3-6 minutes.  Other two computers in the house work fine when this one is out.  We have replaced all connections/wires, problem still persists.  Took it to BB and they hooked it to their internet and it never went out (go figure).  Anyone else having this problem?

Broadband through electrical lines, that technology I know exists but you are the first person I came across that uses this kind of internet. I will see what I can find online to help you with your issue, but this is a strange one indeed that might very well stump me till the cows come home

    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again.
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

why do I keep getting the spinning color wheel ... it keeps pausing internet connection??

Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

What do you mean it did not work!  What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel?  Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

  • RE1000 keeps loosing internet connection

I recently bought the RE1000 extender to improve our network at home.
I'm using the Linksys WRT610N router and Linksys WUSB600N adapters to connect, no encryption or mac filter.
My problem is that the RE1000 extender keeps loosing internet connection, the computers are still connected to the extender with full signal strength but no internet (Network magic icon with red X).
If I disconnect/connect to the wireless network when this happens the computer will connect to the router with only one bar strength.
To fix the problem I must restart the extender, then it works for a couple of days again before internet is lost again.

As you mentioned in your post that if you connect the computer with the router's network it connects with one bar but does it go online? If yes then connect the RE1000 from the Router and check the DHCP client table it will show the RE1000 IP address and then configure the RE1000 again… Here is the link for the configuration of the RE1000…
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=3760&userrole=Linksy...
Wireless settings in RE1000 will be same as router… In order to get the best performance from an RE1000 you need to place the extender in an area where you still have at least 50% signal strength to your router when you place it in the final location where the RE1000 will be used. Once after the configuration of the RE1000 try to connect the wireless laptop and check the connectivity…
Secondly in the DHCP client table the client name shows up with the Device name and not the Wireless Network Name…

  • Do they have plans to fix the bugs with Yosemite.  I keep losing internet connection on my Mac Book

Ever since i installed Yosemite on my Mac Book pro i keep losing internet connection.  Should I go back to mavericks because I just hate this Yosemite or do they plan to fix the bugs soon?  I did a complete clean install and I am still having problems.  I see a lot of complicated solutions and I am not that tech savvy to go into my settings.  Thanks

All software has bugs. The first release (which you have) will be the worst.
Many advocate not upgrading to a new operating system until it's been out for 3 months or longer. In the Windows world many recommend not upgrading until a full year has passed.
So yes, most / some bugs and glitches will get fixed over time.   If you wish to reduce your difficulties in the future wait a while before installing ANY new OS.
I suggest you post specific details on your Internet problems. How are you connected etc.

  • Sorry to ask a popular question but....I keep losing internet connection...

    Afternoon,
I recently bought an iMac (about a month ago) - I am quite new to the Mac world and have posted a couple of questions previously. I am using Mac OS X version 10.7.2 - 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 (although I'm sure you can see that from here?)
I have noticed that I lose internet connection frequently which hasn't particurly impressed me as I then browse Safari on my iphone without issues. I use Virgin broadband (20mb) although no one ever gets that much I know! ;-)
I am also on a wireless connection - yes I could plug an ethernet cable in but why should I be needing to? I'm a little annoyed as I've spent a lot of money on this computer which I do love dearly, however, I do understand that nothing is perfect and on the mega annoying side, my friends keep slating me saying "See? Told you Macs are crap...blah blah..."
This never happened when I did have a PC so why does this seem to happen with Macs?
The reason I bought a Mac was purely because it is a lovely machine, it is pretty and I did actually think that I'd be having pretty much null problems with one. I also am a bit of a photographer and the screen on this Mac is amazing and pretty awesome for editing my photos. My old Gateway laptop died of BIOS death and lasted a record breaking 6 years. Prior to that, I had another laptop which was crap and died after two years, then a PC before then which was unspeakably awful. Many friends of mine have macs that have been with them for 10 years minimum, this was why I decided to buy one, for longevity purposes!
Anyway, I am sorry to ramble on but, is there something that I can do about this persistent interruption of internet? Can I do something to configure my settings?
Would really appreciate thoughts, views and some help of course. ;-)
    Thanks very much
    Pandora

Sometimes it's an interference issue related to all the items that use 2.4Ghz frequency.
    Quote from attached article:
If you experience less-than-optimal performance on your wireless network due to interference from other wireless devices, you may be able to reduce the effect of interference by changing to a different channel on your wireless network. Less-than-optimal performance may be characterized by low signal strength in the AirPort menu bar, slow connection to the Internet, or slow file transfers between wireless computers. Simply reset the AirPort base station and it will attempt to use the 2.4 and 5GHz channels with the least interference when it starts up.

Also in your router, use WPA2 security.  WEP doesn't work well with new Macs.

  • I cannot get my internet connection to save

I have a new IMac with Airport to connect the internet. However, each time I start up my computer, I have to re enter my network name and WEP password to be abel to access the internet. Once I enter everything, I can connect to the internet, and I click the lock to save the changes, but once I shut down the computer, all this info is lost and must be retyped. I have tried Network via Sys. Pref, also clickling the lock for Internet Connect/Airport, but nothing is working. Does someone know how I can keep the network name and WEP password from "disappearing" each type I start my computer? Thanks.

    Try the following:
If you use "Preferred Networks," instead of "Automatic" for your "By default, join" setting Location, try the following:
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > AirPort tab
    - Delete all preferred networks with encryption
    - Add them again after manually connecting
(Note: It will be faster if you turn on "Automatically add new networks to preferred networks list" under "Options" of the AirPort network connection.)

  • Cannot restore, no internet connection

When connecting my iPod to my computer it says I have to restore the software of the iPod(I use iTunes 7.4.1.2). Doing so (trying to select Restore on the Summary tab) it says it cannot connect to the update server because I don't have an internet connection. But I do have a running connection (internet explorer runs fine). To be sure i shut down the firewall (zonealarm). Same result.
Anybody any idea? Does the restore connection need specific internet settings?
One helpless father trying to get his daughter's iPod running...

After en number of calls to the Apple support desk, I managed to restore the software. iPod is running now. Installed iTunes to another PC and could connect to the update server. Practical solution. Strange though the support desk could not find the problem on the original PC. Don't bother anymore.

  • Linksys E1200 patch 2.0.05 build 2 Mar 28, 2013 - still keeps loosing Internet connection

    Hi Guys,
Anyone with the above issue - suddenly now my internet keeps loosing connectivity.
Is it the ISP fibre issue or the cisco linksys e1200.
    Any feedback appreciated.
    many thanks in advance

To properly isolate on which device is not working properly is to disconnect the router from the setup and connect your main computer directly to the modem (via Ethernet cable). You can observe the internet connection through the modem for at least 24 hours. If you find that the modem is working fine (stable) then the problem is with the router. So what you can do is reset the router (pressing and holding the button down) for 15 seconds and power it down for also 15 seconds. You re-configure the internet connection on the router after that. Set the wireless settings, too, like change the SSID, set the channel to something else and make sure that wireless security is enabled. You use WPA2 for wireless security on the router.

  • E2000 keeps losing internet connection on Motorola SBV5121 Cable Modem

I bought a E2000 last week. Used my wired PC to setup which failed as it said internet connection not detected.
tried reinstalling after powercycling the modem and routers but still it could not detect the internet.
I used my friends macbook pro to setup router wirelessless and the E2000 + internet connected successfully.
I connected my PC using ethernet and it worked bingo! Shortlived as in 2 days again no internet was detected. Now i have tried everything but no avail. My friend out of town so cannot try reinstalling it using Mac book.
Any known issues with the cable modem and Linksys E2000?
    Thanks
    Akshay

Bypass the router and connect your computer directly to the modem.
Make sure that you can access the Internet when you connect the computer directly to the modem.
If you can access the Internet through the modem then try to configure the router manually.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to Ethernet port on the router. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Now try to reconfigure the router manually.
Follow this link to configure the router with CABLE Internet service.
