Cannot kill DW8 under Windows XP

Question

When I exit DW8 normally the "process" somehow stills runs in
Windows XP -- and, I cannot even manually kill the process via the
Windows Task Mgr (though DW is not shown in the list of running
applications).
This is a problem because if I later open DW again (which
creates a situation with 2 running DW processes) and try to save an
updated page, "Save" and "Save as" do nothing. I can edit pages -
but to no avail as I cannot save my work. The only solution has
been to reboot.
Any ideas as to how I might fix this? Thanks.

What do you see in the control panel under Admin Tools/Event
Viewer and then
select System?
