Cannot launch dreamweaver as menus.xml file corrupt

Help - I have not used Dreamweaver CS5 in a few months, went to launch it today, and the program complains that the current menus.xml file cannot be constructed.  The suggestion is to replace it with menus.bak which does not help.  I reinstalled dreamweaver - no luck.  I downloaded and installed the latest update - again no luck.
On the machine is also LR 4.1 and Photoshop CS6 - am hoping these do not cause a conflict.
BTW searched forums and internet but none of the advice seems to work.  Running Win7 (64).
Thanks.

Moving this to Dreamweaver Section.

    After migration to a new Mac Pro Dreamweaver CS6 won't launch. It says it is missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

    Hi rustyg12,
    Go to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6/Configuration/Menus/menus.bak
    You'll see a menus.xml there - it is a backup copy of the actual menus.xml file that DW uses.
    Copy it from that folder, paste it 1 level above (in Menus folder).
    Fire up DW. See if it works.

  • Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file

    So, after having trouble with my Photoshop scratch disk, I had to do an archive and install of my Mac OS 10.6.1 then reinstall the Adobe suite. I then had to run the Licensing Repair Tool (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html).
    Now everything works but Dreamweaver, which is throwing the following error:
    "Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file.
    Please delete the current menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml"
    I tried that. menus.bak is a directory, not a file. Even renaming the directory didn't work.
    I saw this http://forums.adobe.com/message/2188511#2188511
    but I don't have a /FlashPlayerTrust/ directory, nor do I see what that has to do with Dreamweaver.
    I couldn't find a corresponding solution for this http://forums.adobe.com/message/862339#862339 for the Mac OS.
    This http://forums.adobe.com/message/3396334#3396334 didn't help, either.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    This is the error I got after deleting (moving) the configuration directory.
    "No document types have been found in the Configuration/DocumentTypes/ folder. The MMDocumentTypes.xml file may be missing or corrupted. The application will exit now."
    I've reinstalled the entire Adobe CS4 (which fixed my Photoshop problem but created this Dreamweaver problem) and then reinstalled Dreamweaver alone.
    I've also attached a screenshot of the Dreamweaver directory tree with the menus.xml files.

  • Cannot Rebuild iphoto Library - empty xml file

    I keep my photos on an external hard drive - and last night i accidentally disconnected the hard drive while i was using iPhoto. iPhoto quit automatically as the library it was using vanished.
    When i tried to restart the library after reconnecting the hard drive iPhoto is showing that there are no photos and no events. I checked the package contents and the photos (7000+) are all still there.
    So i tried to rebuild the library using iphoto library manager after reading some other similar posts. Unfortunately, iPhoto library manager tells me that the library cannot be rebuilt as the xml file is empty.
    Please don't tell me that i have to recreate this library - i had 100+ albums, dozens of web galleries, multiple calendars, etc. and i just can't bear the thought of losing all those hours of work. Please tell me there is another solution!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Are you sure iPhoto is pointing at the right library?
    hold down the option (or alt) key when launching iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the library on the disk.
    If that fails, then you won't have to recreate all the library - just restore your back up.
    You do have a back up, don't you?
    Otherwise:
    To create and populate a new library:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
    In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
    Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Itunes xml file corruption

    I'd like to ask the community if anyone else is having trouble with corruption of their iTunes XML library file?
    Back on October 20th, my iTunes library completely imploded: roughly one third of all songs stopped playing, all my Digital Copy movies refused to play. I had just upgraded my iPad to iOS 6 and pretty much everything imploded. The solution was to basically delete the iTunes XML files, re-install the software and then re-import all my uploaded music.
    Yesterday, I connected one of my iPod Classics and saw the same error messages that started the first round of trouble: there were 7 files that iTunes claimed it could not sync with my Classic because they were the "wrong format". I checked each in turn and they turned out to be from 3 of my 650 or so albums. In each case I could click on the iTunes entry and nothing would play: no error was reported.
    In each case if I pulled up the track information, I could see that the references for these 7 songs had been corrupted. So for example, the track "We Didn't Start The Fire", from Billy Joel's album, "Storm Front", had "Song Information" that said it was actually located in /iTunes/Crowded House/ - no album name or song name were included. Every one of the 7 "wrong format" songs had corrupted "location data" like this. The choice of the tracks that were corrupted appears to be largely random. However, I have noticed that corruption only seems to occur when I add new material to my iTunes database.
    The first instance was a complete meltdown and required a clean re-installation of iTunes - literally hundreds of song entries were corrupted. This time around only 7 seem to have been impacted [though i concede it could be more].
    I tried asking Apple support for help and although they were able to walk me through the repair process, they have been unable to explain why this corruption is taking place. I wonder if anyone has any ideas? For what little it may help:-
    I am running iTunes 10.7(21) on a Mac Mini (OS/X 10.7.5(11G63)) with the 2.3GHz Core i5 and 8Gb of RAM.
    My iTunes Library "XML" file is in my local home directory [default location], but because it's now well over 200Gb in size, all the music files for iTunes are stored in a QNAP NAS [works fine, local Apple folk helped me configure it].
    It's difficult to triage exactly what's happening without having access to something like XMLspy and being able to work through the iTunes XML file piecemeal, but it does look like something during the "add songs to database" process is corrupting that file, and, interestingly, it adds new content fine - it's existing entries that get corruption.
    My music library is not *that* big: the XML file is 15.2Mb on disc, iTunes is currently holding 659 Albums an about 7827 songs.
    Does anyone else have ideas as to what might be causing this? It seems to be a relatively recent development, and since I rebuilt the database completely 6 weeks ago, this most recent damage is definitely a recent thing.
    Suggestions gratefully received.

    The XML file is a readable subset of the data in the main library file. If the library database becomes corrupt the easiest approach is to restore an earlier version.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
    Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
    The images are from Windows XP but you get the idea. Your Mac library file may omit the .itlextension.
    See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    When you get it all working I'm told Carbon Copy Cloner can do the equivalent of this Windows based backup tip.

  • MailActivationAgent MailAccount XML File Corruption

    We're looking for feedback on how to solve or workaround a problem in which BPEL MailAccount XML files become corrupted when the BPEL server is restarted.
    The issue affects the BPEL MailAccount XML configuration files which reside in $ORABPELHOME$/domains/$DOMAIN$/metadata/MailService. We have noticed that these files occasionally become corrupted (content missing, 0 byte filesize) which causes the BPEL processes which reference them to fail. Looking at the date/timestamp of the corrupted files, we noticed that they are last written to at the same time as the BPEL server is taken down which suggests that the files are being corrupted during server shutdown.
    What appears to be happening is the following: we have a BPEL process which uses a standard MailActivationAgent to listen for activity in email accounts specified in the MailAccount XML configuration files noted above. The activation agent polls these configuration files at regular intervals to pick up any changes that have been made to them. The agent opens the files with write permission since it may rewrite content back into the file (e.g. it may transform plain text passwords into encrypted form). If the BPEL server is taken down while the activation agent has these files open, the files are not saved and closed safely before the agent terminates and they can be corrupted as a result.
    The following XML fragment from the bpel.xml file shows how the activation agent is configured:
    <activationAgents>
         <activationAgent className="com.collaxa.cube.activation.mail.MailActivationAgent" heartBeatInterval="20">
              <property name="accountName">testMailAccount</property>
         </activationAgent>
    </activationAgents>
    Environment:
    Solaris 10 / SunOS 5.10
    BPEL 10.1.3.3
    Any suggestions as to how to solve or workaround this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Have you solved the problem? we're interested in knowing the results because we have a similar sort of requirement to build .
    We're having a different type of problem though. The bpel get initiated for all mails in that account (including old mails) and then it deletes them. Did you had any issues like this or do you have any suggestions for us.
    The interval is set to 60 seconds and we're testing it on Bpel 10.1.2 with outlook express account (POP3).
    thanks in advance

    the air plugin for  dreamweaver breaks the application.xml file when the version is  changed from 2.0 to 2.7

  • ITunes xml file corrupt

    I'm far from a genius when it comes to this stuff, but there's something seriously wrong with my file "itunes library.xml".  I only know because I tried running Doug's applescript to eliminate duplicate files from iTunes and the results contained files that were previously deleted.  I looked at the xml file and see that there are a whole bunch of songs included in the file from a directory that no longer exists.   Do I have any options except starting from scratch with iTunes?  Thank you.

    Quit iTunes.
    Delete the iTunes library.xml.
    Restart iTunes. The  xml will get rebuilt.
    iTunes does not use this file.
    It is created only for other apps to use.

  • Cannot open pages documents "index.xml file is missing"

    Working on an iMac Mountain lion and using pages 3.0.3.  Just today, none of my pages documents will open.  I haven't stored anything in the cloud, I haven't changes anything, just working on the pages documents  simple text.
    The last thing I did with it was to print the file, as I have so often before.  I have a MacBook with the same pages app, but running on Yosemite -- bought a new version of pages.
    The MacBook will open .pages files stored on that hard drive, but files taken from the iMac will not open on the MacBook.
    I'm in a tight.  I have a vast number of documents as I've been using pages for years.

    By default, Pages v5.5.2 on Yosemite saves out a Single File format document, which is a compressed renamed zip folder that the Finder allows us to believe is a document. When you attempt to open that document from within Pages '08, or Pages '09, you get the following dialog:
    The Pages v5 generation documents do not use an internal index.xml file. Pages v5.5.2 also allows one to change that single file format document into a package file format document, which is not a compressed, renamed folder. When you open one of these package format documents in the older Pages applications, you now get a different dialog message. The index.xml file is still missing, but…
    If you are using Pages '08 v3.0.3, or Pages '09 v4.3, there are no newer versions of these applications available. This is an Apple attempt to steer users to a Yosemite update, and then downgrade to the latest Pages applications that now require Yosemite. They could have just said, “we made a document format that is incompatible with older Pages applications.”

  • Cannot parse UTF-8 encoded xml files

    I have been having issues parsing files that were encoded with UTF-8. If I save the file as standard ANSI and parse it I do not have the issues.
    Is there a reason this can occur?
    Here is the error I am getting:
    C:\Home\Java\testbed\tmp>java RFKGenerator -in 4874.xml -xsl cl_rfk.xsl -out 4874.rfk
    Applying stylesheet cl_rfk.xsl...
    Exception in thread "main" ; SystemID: file:///C:/Home/Java/testbed/tmp/2.209_M_

    As I mentioned before this only occurs if the file is encoded in UTF-8 so I am not sure if there is any extra steps needed when parsing these type of files. I am using the latest xalan parser and the xerces processor that apache provides.
    If you need any other information please let me know.
    thank you.

    I found that the issue was I was using an older version of Xalan and when updated it fixed the problem. Also there are issues with parsing UTF-8 on win9x machines you should be on Win2k/XP to not encounter errors.

  • Cannot launch application to open a file from jdev extension

    Hello:
    I use the following code to let my application to open a file:
    String[] cmd = new String[3];
    cmd[0] = "cmd.exe" ;
    cmd[1] = "/C" ;
    cmd[2] = "myfile.pdf;
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
    p.waitFor();
    It worked fine if it was in a main method running in jdev. However, my application is a jdev client launched by clicking run/debug extension on project icon. When that part of code was executed, I didn't see the file got opened. No cmd.exe process got created either. I am wondering if I need to do something more to make it work. (I did enable "allow program input" in Tool Settings in Run/Debug/Profile of the project property).
    Anyone who knows this may offer some help/hint?
    Thanks.

    Hi there
    Perhaps this trick will help.
    Do the file browse thing where it appears to lock up.
    Press Alt+Spacebar and release both keys.
    Presss M. (selects the Move command)
    Press any arrow key.
    Wiggle the mouse around a little and see if the window pops into view.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Cannot launch photoshop because of scratch file error (Win 7 64bit)

    Hello all, I work at a school district and we have a class that uses photoshop but some fail to open due to a scratch file being locked. Now, we use Deepfreeze on all student computers in the district, that being said we force all domain users that log in to be created into a new partition (T:\) while our photoshop is installed on our primary drive partition (C:\). Could this be my problem, that my users are in a different partition and have no way to see the files in the other partion and are locked out? I've tried making the program run as an admin for all on the machines and that still hasn't solved my problem. Any ideas?

    Ahh, a point I failed to see Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preference file? Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

  • Menus.xml issue when trying to launch Dreamweaver CS4

    I have used Dreamweaver CS4 for many years on my Mac. I had a drive failure and have had to reload all of my applications from scratch as there seemed to be an issue with the Time Machine back up. Everything is working well apart from Dreamweaver CS4 which brings up an error message telling me to delete my menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml which just doesn't work.
    I have checked and this has been asked before but none of the previous answers that I could find will work for me. Any new ideas?

    One issue appears to be that Dreamweaver has loaded the help and configurations files into a folder in applications rather than in application support. I do not have a Dreamweaver CS4 folder anywhere in applications support under my identity or than of the loacl admin.
    You need to turn on your hidden folders to see it.

  • Can not open dreamweaver due to missing menu.xml file, how do I fix this problem?

    Can not open dreamweaver due to missing menu.xml file, how do I fix this problem?

    @alicia - We have seen such issues before
    Allow me to quote David Powers from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1192197
    The menus.xml file is normally in your personal configuration folder. Before going to the trouble of reinstalling, try deleting your configuration folder. Details of how to find it are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494812.
    When you launch Dreamweaver, it should build a new configuration folder.
