Cannot launch Gnome on Wayland
When selecting Gnome on Wayland, all I am getting is a screen flicker and a return back to GDM. What do I need to do in order to launch Gnome on Wayland?
I am using a fully updated Arch installation (Xorg 1.16.0, linux 3.15.8, nouveau-dri 10.2.4.)
Any ideas?
brittyazel wrote:Did you read the wiki page? You have to build a special mutter-wayland package and reboot
I did and I'm pretty sure I read on the wiki, or on this forum, that this hack would no longer be necessary with xorg 1.16. Apparently it still is, too bad.

Will try that, thanks.

Gnome 3.12 cannot launch gnome-terminal with sudo
I am suffering from a problem that seems similar to the thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=180103 and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1402702 but since they are marked solved I am opening my own.
My real problem is I use this encrypted USB stick called an ironkey. Without going into too much detail, in order to unlock the encrypted partition on it I need to run an executable on it, typically like this:
sudo /run/media/ccooper/IronKey/linux/ironkey
I am getting the error
Error constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.Terminal: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process org.gnome.Terminal exited with status 1
The ironkey launcher for some reason spawns a new terminal to ask for my passphrase, which is the problem.
I have narrowed it down to just being unable to launch gnome-terminal with sudo or as root.
So in summary, i can launch a gnome-terminal as my normal user, but not with sudo. I also cannot sudo -i and launch a gnome-terminal either.
I have run the localectl and localegen commands, as described as the "fix" but they do not help me.
# localectl
System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
VC Keymap: n/a
X11 Layout: n/aThanks for the reply OOO, I'm just about to open bug for gnome (did a break for lunch )
Are you still suffering from the issue?
can you please provide some details, for example your gnome version and if you have gnome-screensaver and or xscreensaver installed and or activated?
are you using GDM or lightDM?
I noticed from: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GNOME that the display manager has role in the locking/screesaver mechanism:
Note: Native support for screenlocking in GNOME is provided by GDM. If you choose to not use GDM you will need to use a different screen locking program such as XScreenSaver.
about your say for Antergos,
I would like to direct you to: distrowatch
Antergos using standart arch and AUR packages (managed by packman), I would say that Antergos is arch, just with graphical installer..
If you think that it's not arch, we can continue and argue about this fact, but I would like to concentrate on trying to understand and resolve the "blank screen" issue (that I believe is actually a gnome issue )

Could anyone help me to figure this out? Thanks.
Edit:
I have also tried running `swc-launch -- velox`, and get the following error:
Running on /dev/tty2
velox: error while loading shared libraries: libinput.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So, perhaps I am having some libinput trouble. Does this seem correct?

Seems that the problem lies in libinput. Maybe you can report that upstream. I suggest you recompile libinput with debug info and do not strip the binaries to obtain better backtraces.
Edit:
I have also tried running `swc-launch -- velox`, and get the following error:
Running on /dev/tty2
velox: error while loading shared libraries: libinput.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Server exited with status 127
Restoring VT to original state
So, perhaps I am having some libinput trouble. Does this seem correct?
Well, that's a different problem. libinput has several soname bumps because of API and ABI incompatibility. You have to rebuild swc against the newest libinput. (Although I'm not sure if swc developer updated the code to new API)
Edit 2:
Just to tack this on here for `gnome-session --session=gnome-wayland --debug`
I'm not expert on this, it may be related to libinput problem. If you don't include GDK_BACKEND=wayland environment variable when launching gnome-wayland.

Mail cannot launch because it says Home Driectory is full? It is not full!!
Hi There:
I have two users on my computer and for some reason I cannot launch my mail program on one of them. Both users are listed as administrators and I have 2 hard drives installed using a firmtek controller card. The first drive where the OS is installed is an 80Bg drive with more than 57Gb available.
When I launch Mail on the first user ut says:
Mail cannot update your mailboxes becasue your Home Directory is full. You must free up space. Delete unnecessary files or documents. The thing is I have tons of space. The other user I can launch mail with no problems. I do have multiple mailboxes set up with the mail program that has the issues.
Please advise
Thanks
WHi Cyclops Images.
Corruption of ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index is known to cause this bogus error message in Mail, even when there is enough space available on disk.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder. -
Just updated my iPhone 5 (16g) to iOS7 and now I cannot launch the music app anymore.
It opens and then just crashes after a few seconds of white screen.
Also If I go to Settings General About the phone crashes all the time after just a few seconds. :-(
AndreasThe same for me. iPhone 4S, itunes match and upgrade to ios7 by air.
So what we have:
1) Music app does not launch (white screen then close)
2) About screen crashes (I guess once it tries to calculate music space)
3) Spotlight does not show any results (no care what I set to search in in the preferences)
4) iTunes Match slider can not be set to Off. However, it is possible to logout from AppleID, then it off. But this does not change the situaton at all
5) Podcast app does not launch
I tried to reboot, to sign in with another Apple ID, to turn off itunes Match, to reset all preferences. Nothing helps.
Things to try:
- reset all preferences and content
- reinstall ios7 with itunes from scratch
- switch to windows phone -
I cannot launch bridge from photoshop cc 2014
I cannot launch bridge from photoshop cc 2014
If you have downloaded and installed Bridge CC and it worked with Photoshop CC,
a common reason for this happening in CC 2014, is that you might have uninstalled Photoshop CC. If that's so, you need to reinstall Photoshop CC.

Cannot launch Java Report Panel
I would like to use the 'Advanced' Web Intelligence editor.
Unfortunately, when I attempt to edit a WI report, I get a message that reads 'This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?'
If I allow the installation, Java 6, Update 3 is downloaded and installed. I restart the browser. Attempting to edit the WI report generates the installation message.
If I don't allow the installation, I get an error that reads 'Cannot launch Java Report Panel, please make sure you have installed a Java virtual machine.'.
It never gets out of this installation loop.
At one point, the Advance editor worked, then something changed.
The Java Control Panel indicates that I have JRE versions 1.6.0_03 and 1.6.0._20 installed (in the Java Applet Runtime Settings). In addition, versions 1.4.2_04, 1.4.2_07, 1.4.2_12, and 1.6.0_03 are listed in the JNLP Runtime settings.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Craig BuchananI am having the same problem and I don't see an answer here. I have uninstalled every instance of java and restarted my computer, then installed the one suggested here: Cannot launch Java Report Panel, please make sure you have installed a Java virtual machine. (the Java Virtual Machine was a link). Restarted again, tried again, same error. On the sun page, I tested my java installation and it works fine. I have checked that java is enabled in both IE and Firefox and I still get this error in either browser. I am using Windows XP.
Upon comparing my computer with my coworker's java configurations, we found that she has a certificate called "Business Objects America" and I don't have that. Could that be the problem, and if so, where can I get that certificate? There was no active X question as I would have expected to see asking to run active X or not. I can't find any certificate downloads on your site at all.
Please advise ASAP because I need to use this Web Intelligence Reporting and I cannot get in.
Thank you. -
After a download update 4.0, I cannot launch. Message says I need to reboot to complete a previous update. I rebooted 5 times to no avail.I have tried searching for xpicleanup.dat to no avail as suggested. What now?
I was able to get live chat support to solve the problem in my post. It worked immediately. Here is what I was told to do. I needed to perform a clean installation Hopefully, it will work for you, too.
"To perform a clean installation, first close Firefox completely. (This chat window
must be closed if it's in Firefox) Then, rename "Mozilla Firefox" to "Old Firefox".
(On 32-bit Windows, this is C:\Program Files\. On x64 Windows, this is
"C:\Program Files (x86)". On Mac, Firefox is in /Applications) Finally, re-install
Firefox normally from http://www.firefox.com"
Since I had already downloaded 4.0, I just went to my download file after renaming the file and ran it. -
Cannot launch Camera Raw in PSE 8
I have PSE 8 with the Camera Raw 6.2 plug-in. The program works perfect exept that I cannot launch the Camera Raw converter. When I open a RAW-file in the editor or via the organizer, then the file just opens in the Editor mode. No raw converter... I can make a full photo-edit in the Editor. But why can't I open the Raw-converter?
I am on vacation. I will get back to you when I am back.

TS1702 Cannot launch the Black Law Dictionary on iPad2
I bought Black Law Dictionary from apps store, after installed it to my iPad2, I cannot launch it. I have disscussed with vendor technical team a month ago but they cannot solve the ploblem. Please suggest me what can i do? Do i have to claim money back and how??
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. -

HT1926 I still cannot launch appl.???
I am totally lost. Not knowing I entered my MasterCard and it charged me for a game?? Or movie I did not want!! I thought I had to have a credit card to use I.Tunes. I cannot launch games for my family member? My husband and I thought it wanted our credit card on file to do anything on this apple I- pad. It is so frustrating. We are in the thought of returning this device to AT&T and call it a loss. Never again. It is only 4 weeks old February,10,2014 was date of purchase. We do not know why!! It gives us so many problems?and now a charge we did not even use any game???? Plz HELP!!! Mr.&Mrs. Jason Stoddard.....
Apple does not use Internet Explorer for Software Update and never has. If IE is launching when you try to run Software Update, there's clearly something amiss with your system. It's not likely an iTunes error since the Mac OS X Software Update doesn't work either, so I'd suggest you repost your question in the Mac OS X 10.3 area. You'll be more likely to get useful suggestions there. The easiest fix may be to do an Archive and Install reinstallation of Mac OS X 10.3, but someone else may know of a quicker fix.
And yes, as you've discovered, Microsoft dropped support for the Mac version of IE two years ago, and Apple hasn't included IE with Macs for quite a while now.

Windows 2008 windows service cannot launch Adobe Reader
I created a windows service that receives pdf files in one folder and should print them opening adobe reader. In my PC with Windows 7 it works just fine but when the application is deployed in Windows 2008 R2 server then the windows service is not able to
launch Adobe Reader.
I searched on Internet and I found that it might be related to the Session 0 used by the services.
I tried multiple possible solutions without success.
Thank you in advance for any support with this issueHi,
Are there any related error messages logged?
If not, I suggest you use Process Monitor to find out why exactly Windows cannot launch Adobe Reader.

After upgrade CUOM/SM from 2.1 to 2.3, I cannot launch CUSM.
Dear Experts.
I recently upgraded CUOM with SM in same server from ver 2.1 to 2.3, and changed IP address and Hostname as well.
I am new to this Cisco management system, I have a few question and need your help.
1. After upgrade, do I really need to re-register 1040 Censor by uploading new image ? is it compulsory after upgrade ?
2. I did re-discover, but it took a lot time, is it normal behaviour to re-discover with 3 CCM, 3 GW and 1 Unity ?
3. I have 1000 license and this l saw error message sometime saying that my license number is not enough.
We have more than 1000 IP Phone, so is this number of 1000 license consumed by all IP phone ?
4. After changing hostname and IP address, I cannot launch the CUSM from dash board, but can launch from CiscoWorks.
I think I did all necessary step of changing IP address and hostname, but I don’t know why I cannot launch from dashboard.
Can someone guide me how to correct this issue ?
Kindly help me on this issue, thanks in advance.
JasonHi and welcome to Discussions,
have you any non-Apple BootCamp Drivers installed or replaced, like for the graphics card for example ?
If so, the uninstall them, either through the 'Software'-Panel in the Control Panel or in the case of graphics card drivers with DriverSweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Also, a checkdisk run http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHKDSK might be helpful.
