Cannot launch Lightroom 3.3 from direct Camera plug in via USB

I would like to have Lightroom 3.3 launch automatically when I plug my camera in via usb. When I plug it in, I currently get the option to automatically launch PS elements, Canon photo programs, Picasa, Windows defaults, etc. For some reason, Lightroom does not appear as an option however. When I plug an SD card in, I do get this option for automatically launching Lightroom. Why won't it give me the option direct from my camera? How can I set this up myself? I have already tried going in using Windows setting defaults but this program does not appear as an option there either.

Can't see mounted volume of my Canon G9 when camera is connected via USB

Why can't I see mounted volume of my Canon G9 (with 8GB SD card) when camera is connected via USB. I just want to be able to download the movie files. Aperture does this fine on my other Mac but on my MBP I use Lightroom and it does not automatically download additional files a la Aperture.
Also can't read via Kensington Multi-SD reader but suspect that's because it is a little older and does not support the higher capacity SD cards

Digital cameras have several modes in which they can connect to a computer.
One mode is sometimes called "Mass Store". The camera acts like a USB disk or thumb drive. It appears in the Finder and files can be copied from it. This obviously is what you are looking for.
Another common mode is called PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol). In this mode, the camera will not appear in the Finder. You use special software to select and transfer the images. There are many applications available to do this: iPhoto, Aperture, Image Capture, the software provided by the camera's manufacturer.
Consult your camera's manual to see if you can select the mode. My Nikon cameras can be set to either of the modes I mentioned. I think I have heard that Canon supports PTP only. I don't have a Canon, so I can't verify this. In that case you could use Image Capture, or Canon's software, or use a card reader. Card readers are usually faster than the camera anyway.

How do I launch Lightroom 5.3 from Creative Cloud?

I downloaded and installed Lightroom 5.3 from Creative Cloud. I have been trying for 4 days to launch Lightroom. Each time I try,Adobe asks for a serial number or wants to know if I want to try Lightroom 5.3 for 30 days. I believe there have been a good number of similar instances affecting CC users. It’s worth checking your purchase history to ensure you are properly subscribed. Go to Adobe.com and near the top right of the page log-in to My Adobe, unless you are already logged-in; in which case it will say welcome next to your name.
Click on My Orders and this should show your latest invoicing. You can expand each section by clicking the small disclosure triangle icon to the left of each date.
Then click on My Products and Services. Under the products section, which sometimes takes a few seconds to refresh, you should find Lightroom and if you expand the details it should contain an automatically generated serial number.
The only suggestion I have is to Launch Lightroom again and if you see the trial screen click on licence this product and enter the serial number.
It should not really be necessary with a CC app but let us know if that works.

Camera firmware update via USB thru ImageBrowser EX?

Hello everyone!
I recently made my first ever Canon camera in the history of the universe (Powershot SX280 HS) and it's amazing.
I have a question, though, about firmware updates.
When I launch ImageBrowser EX, and click on the button to "update to latest version" with my camera connected to my computer via USB, does this update the firmware too? Or does this only update ImageBrowser EX?
I understand that updating the firmware requires me to download a file from my product's support page and manually installing it using a memory card. But I was wondering if updating through USB is also possible.

I am pretty sure you have to do it the way Canon tells you to in its documentation on the support page for the 280, i.e. copying the firmware file to a card in a card reader. There is no mention of ImageBrowser in the documentation. Updating via ImageBrowser is probably just for the browser software on your computer. Most things can be done via USB but updating firmware is usually a pretty rare thing except for this particular model camera which has seen two updates so far and I wish would see another (since I too am verging on returning it to the store before my 30 days are up, the day after I get home from vacation). The issues improved with the updates but are still there (see very long thread about battery issues in this forum).

Can't print on my F4580 all in one from my MacBook with OSX via usb

Hi Forum,
I have a HP F4580 All-in-one printer/scanner which worked fine on my old laptop with windows vista.
The laptop has now died so i thought I'd try Apple.
I now need to print some stuff off for work but it doesnt seem to produce anything.
It's plugged via usb and its has been setup on the Mac through the System Preferences and Printer & Scanners icon but when you click print on the document you want the little printer icon pops up on the dock at the bottom but the printer never prints anything!!
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or if it evens works through OSX.
Please help.

I would recommend repairing the disk permissions on your computer by following this Apple document here. Once this is complete, make sure your Apple updates are complete by following this Apple document here.

Can i record music from vinyl records to iPad via usb turntable?

I have an old desktop PC but recently purchased an iPad and was wondering if I plugged in my usb turntable, could I record songs from vinyl records to the iPad? If so what app would be best?

This is a classic task for a computer. One I used to do frequently. I used the Amadeus application to record and, where necessary, edit the music. The application can filter the recorded tracks to eliminate clicks and hiss among other things. I then saved the files and imported them into iTunes. From there I could do anything that iTunes let's me do such as burn CDs, use the music in videos and of course copy them to an iPod, iPad or iPhone.

Problem scanning from HP 1312 MFP connected via USB to Time Capsule

I have a HP Color Laserjet 1312 MFP connected via USB to a Time Capsule. I can print through the Time Capsule without any problems but the HP Director software can't see the device hence I can't use the scanner on the device.

If the scanning option is vital, just keep the MFP directly plugged into your Mac (via USB). Enable printer sharing via System Preferences. Note that the Mac does need to be on for the other machines on your network to print. If that's not an option, look into purchasing a USB print server to connect via ethernet onto your network.

It's a catch 22. I think Adobe still had my old email address, which I have deleted with Comcast.
Therefore, Adobe cannot send me a change of password form, nor can I update my email.

I was able to download the Lightroom 5.6 update without any errors. If you continue to face difficulties you may want to try a different Internet connection or download the update onto a USB drive on a different computer.

My trial period of lightroom has ended. I have paid subscription membership for both photoshop cc and lightroom. I now cannot launch lightroom as it asks for license number.

Cannot Launch Lightroom Past Splash Screen

Getting this message on splash screen: "Cannot create the required folder: /Users/DJRuffRyd/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."
I am unable to do anything on my Mac OS (Yosemite 10.10.3) unless I quit Lightroom. I downloaded from Creative Cloud. Reinstalled 3x's and nothing is different. Anybody have any solutions?

UPDATE: Online support helped with this. Needed to change my permissions.

Try logging out of CC and then logging back in. This has worked for many who are having this problem, also a few have had to reboot.

am i correct in assuming you have a macbook? if so the firewire slot is on the left of the USB slots the cable i got was a 6-pin/4-pin (6-pin on one end and 4-pin the other) cable Belkin IEEE1394 got mine from comet i took my cam and mac book with me to make sure, (if not a mac book then the slot should be to the right of the USB slots on the back of MAC,hope this helps

Getting video from my camera into FCE via Quicktime?

I got a bunch of footage from some DVDs burned ("finalized") in our Sony Handycam (not Firewire compatible). Each disc has a folder called "video_ts" containing files with the following extensions: bup, ifo, and vob.
I can't import any of them or open them in FinalCut and a person in the FC forums said I need to convert these files using MPEG Streamclip coupled with the Quicktime MPEG2 component using a DV video codec and uncompressed Audio and I should be good to go.
TWO QUESTIONS (finally): Do I need Quicktime Pro or just regular Quicktime? Does this solution sound good to all of you?

If you own Final Cut Pro the application gives you QT Pro (part of its install activates the Pro features).
I don't own it but it may ship with the MPEG-2 component as well. Look in the HD/Library/QuickTime folder for it.

I just noticed the "Express" part in this subject. Me bad.
Doesn't Apple offer an "Express to Pro" upgrade? It seems to save your at least $50 because of these inclusions.
MPEG Streamclip is a great free product and a newer version was released a few days ago.
