  • How to Reset Photoshop CS6's Preferences File | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV

In this episode of The Complete Picture, Julieanne demonstrates two methods for one of the most common trouble shooting techniques: resetting the Photoshop Preferences.

Been looking for one of your tutorials referencing the kind of problem I seem to be having, but haven't located it.  It concerns Photoshop CS6 and saving files to jpeg when an image has been created using levels and layers.   The problem is this:
Recently I got Photoshop CS6 and started using Layers.  I put stars into a night sky.  Followed basic proceedures starting with noise filters and reducing the number of stars through levels and screen settings etc, I created an image that started with thousands of stars to around a hundred or so.  I added some light to the stars and some color, then saved it as a photoshop image.  All fine.  When I tried to save the image as a jpeg, some of the layers went missing and the final saved image contained all the thousands of stars I started with.  Is this a bug in the program and if so is there a fix for it.  If there is another way to get around this problem and allow me to save the image as a jpeg without losing layers, that would be fine as well.  I've tried grouping layers and images together and other collective methods, but the end results are still the same.  Layers go missing and the sky is filled with all the stars (noise filter settings), not the finished product.
    Thanks in advance

  • Photoshop CS5.1 preference file deleted problem

    Hello
I hope soemone can help out here, i'm quite stuck!
I'm running OS 10.8.5 using PS CS5.1. My mac was left on overnight (not sure how relevant that is) and when opening up PS this morning it crashed with the message 'end of file encountered' 'preferences file is invalid/has been deleted'
I've read up on a few older posts about the same thing. I uninstalled/reinstalled from disk but the same thing happens.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Matt

Please hold down Shift+Option+Command keys as Photoshop is launched.
Incase this does not work, please delete the corrupt preference file:
    Go to your home folder.
Go to your User Library folder.( OR Hit Command+Shift+G from the Mac desktop (or Finder > Go > Go to Folder) and type in ~/Library)
    Go to the Preferences folder.
Delete the “Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings” (or similar name) folder.(Folder name may differ depending on what version you have)

  • Cannot launch photoshop because of scratch file error (Win 7 64bit)

Hello all, I work at a school district and we have a class that uses photoshop but some fail to open due to a scratch file being locked. Now, we use Deepfreeze on all student computers in the district, that being said we force all domain users that log in to be created into a new partition (T:\) while our photoshop is installed on our primary drive partition (C:\). Could this be my problem, that my users are in a different partition and have no way to see the files in the other partion and are locked out? I've tried making the program run as an admin for all on the machines and that still hasn't solved my problem. Any ideas?

Ahh, a point I failed to see Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preference file? Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

  • CS6 Photoshop reads this when attempting to "Could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted). HELP!

Finally got a call this morning from an Adobe Rep and he explained to me the issue. He explained that I needed to uninstall the adobe product, in this case Photoshop CS6 and download it again and reinstall it! So, I did that and get the same message when attempting to open the newly downloaded software: "Could not initialize Photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted). Please, if someone could help me as soon as possible! I am very anxious to remedy this situation. Thank you!

This seems to have cropped up a lot recently. What has seemed to work so far is intentionally resetting your preferences:
    Reset Preferences
    1) Close the program and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Win)/Cmd+Option+Shift (Mac) during startup (not reversible)
    or
    2) Move the Folder. See:

The CC Cleaner Tool assumes the Akamai Download Manager is activated and it has not. It seems to be the missing file that triggers the error message. \in a previous re-install I was prompted to download & install the Akamai Download Manger, but not this time. Is there somewhere on the Adobe website that I can download it??

One idea is to hold down the cmd-opt-shift keys and start Photoshop. It will ask you if you want to delete the settings file. Answer "Yes" and it will create a new Preferences files. Photoshop should continue  to load.

    Hi,
This should only occur if this is a NEW computer or your first sync and you have information from another computer.
Has this iPhone been synced with another computer before?
    Transferring Purchases; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
If you follow that link your Apps WILL be on your computer and any music you have brought......
Now, do not worry, even if you do accidentally delete your apps, you can download them again for free with your itunes store account, just keep in mind you will lose any saved data!
Follow this and hit continue, the only information that could get lost is any content (music, videos etc) synced from ANOTHER computer that WAS NOT brought from your account.
Hope this helps and makes sense....

  • Unable to launch Photoshop CS6 Extended

When I try to launch Photoshop CS6 the following box appears: "Photoshop detected graphics hardware that is not officially supported. If you experience problems, please uncheck the use graphics processor checkbox in the performance panel of the preferences dialog." After his message appears, Windows tries to solve the problem but has no solutions and shuts down Photoshop before it even opens." Any suggestions anyone?

Yes, I know that! This version has been working fine since I purchased it
last year...it happened completely out of the blue...no new programs were
added...I just can't launch it now! Tried deleting and reinstalling. Very
    frustrated.

After a download update 4.0, I cannot launch. Message says I need to reboot to complete a previous update. I rebooted 5 times to no avail.I have tried searching for xpicleanup.dat to no avail as suggested. What now?

I was able to get live chat support to solve the problem in my post. It worked immediately. Here is what I was told to do. I needed to perform a clean installation Hopefully, it will work for you, too.
"To perform a clean installation, first close Firefox completely. (This chat window
must be closed if it's in Firefox) Then, rename "Mozilla Firefox" to "Old Firefox".
(On 32-bit Windows, this is C:\Program Files\. On x64 Windows, this is
"C:\Program Files (x86)". On Mac, Firefox is in /Applications) Finally, re-install
    Firefox normally from http://www.firefox.com"
Since I had already downloaded 4.0, I just went to my download file after renaming the file and ran it.
