Cannot load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version 2.0.0.0...

Windows 2008 Server, 64-bit
ASP.NET 2.0
Ajax 1.0
Crystal Reports version 10.5.3700.0
I am trying to deploy my web application to a 64-bit Windows 2008 Server.  I have built several web setups using both the 32-bit 10.2 merge modules and I've run the 10.5 version msi package.  I receive the following error:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

Ludek,
1) Navigate to the ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 Installer Package found at ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ca9d90fa-e8c9-42e3-aa19-08e2c027f5d6&displaylang=en )  -- (We'll try this, but we have been down this same path at least once already.)
Download and install on your production server. Install and reboot the server.
This will install all required DLL files in your Win/Assemblies/ folder on your server, which is what your config file is looking for.
-- We know this will put older versions of the assembly files into the cache, but it will not put in the version that we receive the error on: 2.0.0.0.  A newer version seems to only dump 3.5.0.0 into the GAC.
2) Place System.Web.Extensions.dll and System.Web.Extensions.Design.dll directly in the Bin folder of your web app.
-- (We have tried placing both 1.0.6x.xx and 3.5.0.0 version of those dlls into our site's bin fodler, and have received various errors, but never a solution.)
The bottom line seems to be that the error is calling for a dll, that Microsoft claims existed at one time, but that no one can currently seem to locate.  Microsoft APS IIS Team personnell indicate that System.Web.Extensions 2.0.0.0 belong to Ajax 2.0, and that the .msi installer for that is no longer available.
We'll try the above 2 steps again, and have a look at the links below, but they seem unlikey to produce a different outcome.

    Sorry for late response. I fixed the issue by installing the correct version of ASP .NET 4 from
    here.
    If .NET Framework 4.5 is already installed, also run aspnet_regiis -i from C:\windows\microsoft.net\Framework\v4.0.30319

    I started getting this error message for the first time today. When I look in the event log I see it every time anyone tries to sync to a mobile device to the exchange server. I've also had this problem trying to connect using

    I have tried most, if not all, of the different post's suggestions to no avail.
    The steps I have taken are as follows...
    1. Repaired .Net 4 (Both the client and extended)
    2. Uninstalled and reinstalled .Net Framework 4.0.
    3. Verified that the dll exists.
    4. Checked the applicationHost.config file. It contains the follow statement...
    <add name="ServiceModel-4.0" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHttpModule, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" preCondition="managedHandler,runtimeVersionv2.0"
    />
    5. Changed the following line in web.config to include the runtimeVersion...
    <add name="ServiceModel" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpModule, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" preCondition="managedHandler,runtimeVersionv2.0" />
    6. Executed aspnet_regiis.exe -iru from the ...\Framework64\v4.0.30319 directory.
    7. Went to inetpub\history to use an applicationHost.config file from yesterday but it only has history from 9PM tonight. It probably had what I needed before I started changing it tonight.
    I still receive the same error message.
    Like I said everything was working yesterday. In fact I didn't hear or see any issue until after 1PM today.
    Any help would be very appreciated!

    Hi,
    Please confirm whether users can access their mailboxes from Outlook Web Access or not. We can do the following changes to have a try:
    1. In IIS > Application Pools, change the .NET Framework Version to v2.0 and restart IIS service.
    2. If it doesn’t work, explore the Default Web site.
    3. Renamed the web.config file to web.config.old
    4. Reset IIS using iisreset command to have a try.
    Thanks,

  • Deploy Web Site Error:Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies

    I have created a ASP.NET web Site (not Web application), using Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate and "SQL Server Compact 4.0 Local Database" in my C# Code.
    I am able to successfully compile & publish the website to another IIS Web Server, with Operating System Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. I can even test, successfully, this website on the machine I developed it in.
    I am publishing the website, from within Visual Studio, to a Network web server running IIS.  To Publish I am using Build-> "Publish Web Site".  In the Publish Profile, I am using Web Deploy Method. Even though I am using, successfully,
    "SQL Server Compact 4.0 Local Database" in my website, the "settings" (in Publish Profile) does not detect any Databases in the project. Which may not be a problem.
    When I try to bring up the web site on the IIS Web Server machine I get the following error..
    Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies .
    As my project is a Web Site, not Web Site Application, I do not have a references node in the Solution Explorer. I think the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll, which is type GAC in my project, is not getting published to the webserver, which is causing this Error.
    Can I copy this .dll over manually ? If yes, where to put on the ISS Web Server ? I do not see any bin folder.
    Any help to resolve this error will be appreciated.

    Hello.. I went ahead and created web application project and have gone past that error. But I have a new error now
    System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException: Unable to load the native components of
    SQL Server Compact corresponding to the ADO.NET provider of version 8876.
    Install the correct version of SQL Server Compact. Refer to KB article 974247
    for more details.
    Compiling and Publishing (Deployment) are both successful
    In my project, when adding reference to SQL Server Compact Edition , there are 2 possible locations to reference the DDL from:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v4.0\Private
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v4.0\Desktop.
    I have tried both. I get the same error as shown above.
    Interestingly, in My WebConfig, I do not see any reference to System.Data.SqlServerCe.
    Yet, the Website works when I click on Ctrl+F5

  • Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies.

    I have updraded my pocket pc application from VS 2005 to VS 2008 and had to convert all the sqlce* files to 35 from 30. all upgraded System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll to version 3.5.0.0 and runtime version as v2.0.50727. My Target Framwork is .NET Framework 2.0.
    All the other sqlce* files are:
    sqlceca35.dll
    sqlcecompact35.dll
    sqlceer35EN.dll
    sqlceme35.dll
    sqlceoledb35.dll
    sqlceqp35.dll
    sqlcese35.dll
    The application is compiling without errors with the above dll's and creating its own webservice dll. the webservice dll is the copied to webserver which has the following dll's:
    sqlceca30.dll
    sqlcecompact30.dll
    sqlceer30EN.dll
    sqlceme30.dll
    sqlceoledb30.dll
    sqlceqp30.dll
    sqlcese30.dll
    and System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll as Assembly version 9.0.242.0 and file version as 3.0.5300.0.
    but when i try to run my application using the emulator, i get the following error:

    HRESULT: 0x80131040)
    i cannot upgrade the dlls on the webserver as other apps are using the 30 dlls and if i try to use 30 dlls in my application, my application fails to build  on  System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll with Assembly version 9.0.242.0 and file
    version as 3.0.5300.0.
    i have spent a few days now trying to resolve this issue and none of the solutions provided on web have helped me so far. the application does not have app.config, but adding the following code to web.config did not help either:
    <
    runtime>
    <

    any help will be highly appreciated.

    The binary 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91'  is only to be used for windows desktop projects. For devices the PublicKeyToken is different and you should use the device
    binary "System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3be235df1c8d2ad3" to compile your device project.
    Also in addition to what Erik mentioned, please check if you have
    Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 for Windows Mobile installed on your machine.

    I can't work out if my target machine (2008 R2 SP1) has a problem with WMA 3.0 or if the Release Template can't find the powershell script that I'm trying to call.  I figured that the relative path to the script could be wrong and have tried numerous
    iterations to no effect.  The error clearly points to a problem with WMA right?
    The target machine has .Net Framework 4.0, WMA Framework 3.0 and I can run Enter-PSSession to remote to it etc...
    Before I trash and rebuild my target machine I hoping someone may have some insight to my problem?
    Thanks in Advance

    Daniel,
    The PS Script is taken from an MSDN blog and is fairly standard.  I'm sure it will run fine when executed, but I've not run it as it requires environment variables ($applicationPath) that will be present in the Release Management session calling it.
    Here's the script :-
    configuration InstallModules
        param
            # Target nodes to apply the configuration
            [string[]]$NodeName = 'localhost',
            # Source Path for Modules
            [String]$SourcePath = "$applicationPath\Deploy\Modules",
            # Destination path for Modules
            [String]$DestinationPath = "$env:ProgramFiles\WindowsPowershell\Modules"
        Node $NodeName
            # Copy the Modules
            File ModuleContent
                Ensure          = "Present"
                SourcePath      = $SourcePath
                DestinationPath = $DestinationPath
                Recurse         = $true
                Type            = "Directory"
    InstallModules

    Yes plugin is written using C++ and that plugin is connecting with MyApp. Previously the plugin was working fine while the connection WCF service was in .net version 3.5 but on change of .net version to v4.5 is throwing the exception. This wcf service developed on C#.

    Note the error is re. 'System.Web.Extensions' which is a Microsoft framework dll. I would suggest:
    1) repair of the .NET installation
    2) update the framework with the latest SP
    3) see if you can crate a new app - without Crystal Reports using the 'System.Web.Extensions' assembly
    4) see if you can create a new app using Crystal Reports (One line app using saved data report will do; crystalreportviewer1.reportsource = <path>)
    5) Download the latest CR SP. As you don not mention what version of CR you are using, see if you can find the SP in our downloads section:

    Hi,
    Our development team is trying to run a report on our report server through web application but they are getting the below error. Report Viewer both version 10 and 11 are already installed on our reporting server.
    [System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    Can anyone please help us with this issue.
    Thanks

    Hi Saurabh,
    This error means you're using the SQL Server Reporting Services ReportViewer control in your web application and the server can't find the proper DLL.
    Please check details information below to add the 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll 10.0.0.0 to see if your problem will be resolved:
    Go to right click on project name to select the properties
    Check the References on the left and click "Add", then click Browse to the path "C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_msil" to select Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll 10.0.0.0 , then click ok
    If above didn't help. please also the web.config file which path like:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS12.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportManager
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS12.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
    Please check to add below configuation:
    <system.web>
         <httpHandlers>
           <add path="Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd" verb="*" type="Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler, Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

    Hello Guys,
    I"m new to Oracle and .Net, I'm trying to display data in a gridview but when I run my Asp.net application I get this error: "*System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.EnterpriseServices, Version=1.0.3300.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. I am not sure wat this means and I have been searching the internet with no success. I'm using Oracle 9i Client 9.2.0.1.0 and I downloaded ODP.NET Version=9.2.0.700 just recently. Cud this have caused the problem????
    Here is a snippet of my code and the program bombs at conn.open(), it seems like it cannot read my connectionString.
    public DataTable FetchData(string statement)
    DataTable dt = new DataTable();
    string constr = "Data Source=PSM1;User ID=CHRHRDM;Password=CHRHRDM";
    //conn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=PSM1;User ID=CHRHRDM;Password=CHRHRDM";
    OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(constr);
    conn.Open();
    OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(statement, conn);
    cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    OracleDataAdapter adapter = new OracleDataAdapter(cmd);
    adapter.Fill(dt);
    //cmd.Connection.Close();
    conn.Close();
    return dt;

  • Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.Web, Version=2.111.6.20

    I am getting the following error whenever I try to run ANY .NET Web application. It looks like the ODP.NET installer pooched IIS.
    Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.Web, Version=2.111.6.20, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
    I searched for and copied the C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\ASP.NET\bin\2.x\Oracle.Web.dll file into C:\Windows\assembly, but that didn't help.
    TIA,
    Miles

    One thing might be if the web server has multiple versions of Oracle installed, then check to see which is first in the path. Another would be that at the least IIS would need to be restarted after the Oracle install, for the path to take effect, possibly the whole machine would need a re-boot for this.

    Hi Scott,
    from  "system.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Company.Solution.Update," error
    it seems some custom feature assemble missing in DEV. Do you have any custom feature installed in PROD and not in DEV ? Also make sure both environment are running on same SP / SQL versions.
    Let us know your results, thanks.

  • Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.Web,?

    Hi to all,
                 I created a webapplication using crystal report11.5, Asp.net2.0-C#.
    The same web application older version developed with crystal
    report10, that older version is installed in other machine it has
    CR 10.0 version only , the client dont like to install one more
    setup for CR11.5, so what i did is i build the lattest version
    application and copy the dll into the older version bin folder
    and pasted the
    CrystalReports11_5_NET_2005.msm, CrystalReports11_5_NET.msm to c:\program files\common
    files\merge modules now i run that older version application
    now it raise an error like
    Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.Web,
    Version=11.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral,
    PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304' or one of its
    dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
    May i know why it happens, i added the lattest version web application dll and msm then why it raise this error and experts help me how to resolve it. This is my urgent work please help

    Hi;
    I'm not sure how you deployed, but from the sounds of things you simply copied the .MSM files to the client computer - is that correct?
    What you need to do is create a runtime package on your development computer, adding the .MSM to that package.
    Or you can install the NET Server install .MSI file on the client ([download|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009657852008E/crxir2sp4_net_si.zip])
    This is discussed in the forums, such as here:
