Cannot load iphoto in time machine

I have recently updated to using my time machine.  I can load it up with finder, selecting individual files.  I can also load it up with mail, selecting individual emails.  The problem comes when i try to load iphoto, to try and recover an individual photo.  I iphoto as the active window, and i click on time machine.  It then proceeds to load the finder window.  It doesnt load the iphoto window, which would then allow me to select an individual photo.  I dont understand what i have done wrong, as it works with mail.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

Try this as a solution.
Launch Iphoto
Go to the album you want to recover the photos from.
right click on any photo in that album and in the drop down menu you should see an option that says 'show file.' Click on that.
This will open a finder window with the file open that contains all the photos currently in the album. Start TimeMachine with this folder active.
Browse back and find all the deleted photos and restore.
Hope that works

  • Cannot Find Photos on External Hard Drive Using iPhoto and Time Machine

    Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on this forum and am really hoping for some help! I have a 2006 PowerBook G4 that is running iPhoto and Time Machine, and I've used an external hard drive to backup everything on the computer via Time Machine. When I plug the external hard drive into my newer 2010 MacBook Pro, I follow this path to try to access the photos:
         External Hard Drive > Backups.backupd > PowerBook G4 12" > Latest > Macintosh HD > Users > Me > Pictures > iPhoto Library
When I click "iPhoto Library", I get the following message:
"The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another   library."
So, I do as the error message says and I hold down the "option" key and iPhoto launches and says:
What Photo Library do you want iPhoto to use?
In this case, I choose "Other Library..." and again follow this path:
         External Hard Drive > Backups.backupd > PowerBook G4 12" > Latest > Macintosh HD > Users > Me > Pictures > iPhoto Library
When I choose this, I again get the following message:
The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another   library.
So as you can see, I'm feeling a bit like I'm chasing my tail in trying to open these photos. I did follow another user's advice and confirm that all photos are infact on the hard drive by using the "control" button and clicking "iPhoto Library" under the pictures folder, and choosing "Show Package Contents". All looks to be in tact in the "originals" folder when showing package contents, however, I just can't find a way to actually view the photos in iPhoto. I really don't want to import all the photos to my current MacBook Pro, because I'd like them to live on the external hard drive (which is formatted for Macs) so that I can browse the photos on the external drive, rather than housing it on my computer.
One other thing I tried was opening iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and going to File > Browse Backups...  which essentially opens Time Machine and shows me the photos on my MacBook Pro but gives me no option to view them from my External Hard Drive.
Any super users out there willing to lend me some help?
    Thanks!

The iPhoto Library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library.  Relaunch iPhoto with <option> key held down to choose another   library.
You can have an iPhoto library on an external drive and use it from different machines
and you can have a Time Machine backup
The two can not be on the same volume - and iPhoto can not access the TM backup - it must be restored to use it

  • Hard drive crashed need to restore iphotos from Time Machine

I need some serious help. I have a 24inch intel imac and my hard drive failed. I thought I had everything backed up on my external hard drive via Time Machine (my last backup was April 11th) so I replaced the hard drive.
Once I reinstalled Leopard 10.5 it asked me if I wanted to restore my data from Time Machine which I did. It seemed like it worked great but when I opened up iphoto all 43,000 pictures (cherished family pictures of our children) were gone!
iphoto still has the Event Titles, how many photos, and the sizes but they are empty with nothing but a big exclamation point. I see the iphoto library under Time machine as well but the restore is grayed out I can't even go back in time because the arrow is grayed out.
I named the new hard drive "new SG 1.0TB" and the old one was just named Macintosh HD. I read briefly somewhere that the old and new hard drives need to have the same name. Is this correct? Also does it make a difference that I had Leopard 10.5.6 when my photos were available and now I'm only on 10.5? Please help!
I had some help from another forum and he told me to look under the Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library and right click on it and select 'Show Package Contents. All the folders are there (teasing me) but there are no pictures in the folders so nothing. But I was searching again on my external time machine backup and found iphotos under time machine backups/backups.backupdp/Ryan Gunter's Computer (2)/2009-01031-002706/Macintosh HD/Users/ryang808/pictures. It had all my iphotos from 1999 until the january 2009 but everything from this date to present is not there (the folders are there but nothing in them) could they still be hiding somewhere?? And how do I get the ones I do have back in iPhoto?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

sorry but, no. if they are not there there is no other place they could be. for some mysterious reason TM didn't back them up. still you should restore what you can. quit iphoto, control-click on TM in the dock and select "browse other TM disks". this will let you browse your old backups via TM interface. locate the folder Macintosh HD/Users/ryang808/pictures on january 31 backup and restore its contents to your Pictures folder. start iphoto and it should have alll those pictures.

how do I import my video files from old iPhoto - in time machine - to new iPhoto?  Photoes came across, video said incompatible.
i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

  • Error "cannot load request real time data targets" for new cube in BI 7.

    Hi All,
WE have recently upgarded our SCM system from 4.1 to SCM 7.0 which incorporated BI 7.0.
I am using BI 7.0 for first time and ahve the following issue:
I ceated a new infocube and data source of flat file and succesfully created transformation, and Data Transfer Process. Everything looked fine. I added flat file and checked preview and could see data. Now when I start job to load data in infocube the follwing error is shown "cannot load request real time data targets".
I checked cube type in setting in infcune is shows as Standard.  When I doube clicked on error the following message showed up
You are trying to load data into a real-time InfoCube using a DTP.
This is only possible if the correct load settings have been defined for the InfoCube.
    Procedure
In the object tree of the Data Warehousing Workbench, call Load Behavior of Real-Time InfoCube from the context menu of the InfoCube. Switch load behavior to Transactional InfoCube can be loaded; planning not allowed.
I did not understand what it is meant and how to set changes. Can someone advice and follow me through.
    Thanks
    KV

    Hi Kverma,
Real-time InfoCubes can be filled with data using two different methods: using the transaction for entering planning data, and using BI staging, whereby planning data cannot be loaded simultaneously. With Real time cube you can select the method you want to use for update as
Real Time data Target can be loaded With Data; Planning not allowed &
Real Time data Target can be Planned; Data loading not allowed
You can change this behaviour by right clicking on cube and selecting Change real time load behaviour and select first option. You will be able to load the data then

  • Purchased movie in iTunes but "cannot load at this time"

Using my iPad, I purchased a movie on iTunes (through the iTunes app).  Purchased was confirmed.  The movie appears in my "Videos" app, but it will only play if I am connected to my wifi.  If I go to iTunes it will show up as a "Purchased" movie and even give me the option to download.  I have selected this option several times but each time I get a message about 2/3 of the way through that says "cannot load at this time."  I want to be able to watch this movie without a wifi connection. A couple of potentially relevant facts:  I have a 3rd generation, wifi only, 64 GB.  I have plenty of storage available. I do everything on the iPad only (I do not go onto iTunes using a laptop/desktop).  I purchased a different movie only a few days earlier and I did not have this problem.
A friend suggested that I need to delete the movie from my "Videos" app library on the iPad and then try to download again but I'm afraid the purchase will then be gone.  Will this work or are there any other suggestions?
    Thanks

This is probably due to a loss of internet connection. Update the apps on your computer in iTunes, and then sync your device. This should fix the problem. Next time you update your apps, make sure you stay in a wi-fi zone.

  • How do I get photos from iPhoto via Time Machine?

    Hi,
I have iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 and am unable to find my photos through Time Machine.  I tried following the previous discussions on how to do this but I did not find a Master's folder when searching on package contents after right clicking on iPhoto in Time Machine.
I accidentally deleted some photos in iPhoto the other night and was hoping that I could easily retreieve them from my Time Machine Back-ups but this is not the case.  Where the heck are the iPhotos photos stored?  I have a MacBookPro running version 10.8.5.
Thanks in advance for your help-
    Sheri

    Thanks, LN
I only need to retrieve a few photos...not the entire library.  Where is the master's folder located, specifically?  I was unable to find it and I looked very thoroughly through all of the folders.

  • Why cant i open iphoto in time machine?

When I click on iphoto when i'm in time machine, I get a dialogue box that asks if I want to open it in QuickTime or QuickTime 7.  It doesn't matter which I click on, iPhoto doesn't open. How do I get to my photos?

You can't open iPhoto in Time Machine, you need to restore it first.

  • Cannot retrieve files from Time Machine.

I cannot retrieve files from Time Machine. I can enter it, but the arrows don't seem to function and when I click on a date/time, nothing happens.

I don't know what you mean by "arrows". After Entering TM, put your pointer over one of the coloured (usually purple) dated bars at the right of the screen. That will bring (usually the desktop) for that date to the front. Navigate in the usual way to find the old file, select it, and press the big Restore button on the bottom left of your screen. As I remember it, a copy of that file will appear beside the current original with something like "Restored" added to is title. When you quit TM (Cancel) that restored file should appear beside its current version. (Or, if it's host folder has been deleted, smewhere else but I can't remember where - search for it.)

  • Recovering iPhoto from Time Machine - Project is not recovered, the book is

Having lost a book in iPhoto, I recovered iPhoto from Time Machine. The Project containing the book was there, but the pictures in the book were not. The pictures are in the photos section, but not in the book. I do not want to have to reload the pictures one by one. Any suggestions. Looks like a defect in Time Machine
    Richard

I just recovered a library with a couple of books in them and all photos were in the book. You might try recovering a different backup of the same library. Go backward from the time of your last attempt and then, if necessary, forward. If all fail then you've got an problem with TM and that library. Check to see if other files can be recovered satisfactorily. If you use iWeb try recovering your domain file from a time back (select the option to keep both so you don't lose your work to date).
It might be a little late, i.e. the horse is out of the barn, but you might consider using a separate library for your books. That provides a couple of benefits: 1 - working in your primarary library, deleting files, etc. will have no effect on your book; 2 - it's easy to backup and archive the book for ordering additional copies in the future. Old Toad's Tutorials #9 and 9a describe two different methods. I prefer #9a.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Browse iphoto in time machine

I wonder why it is not possible to look at photos in iPhoto using Time machine with Mountain Lion. I´m pretty sure this was possible in Lion och snow Leopard. If it´s not possbile to see what photos are backed up when i feel that much of the idea with Time Machine is lost.
When i enter Time Machine i can only do it in Finder, and not in iPhoto even if i have iPhoto running when clicking Time Machine in Applications.
Anyone want to shed some light on this?

Yes, it was.  But that feature was removed effective with Lion and iPhoto '09.
If you still have iPhoto '08, though, it should still work on Mountain Lion (although starting iPhoto beachballs for about 10 seconds).

Restore the library from Time Machine as shown in this screenshot:
Then open the library with iPhoto.  No importing necessary.
