Cannot load webpage

Sorry, reposting under new topic as I posted earlier in wrong thread.
My problem is Safari automatically deletes first portions of legitimate website addresses and then I get an error message that Safari cannot find the server.
For example i type in "www.soccernet.com" in the address bar, but when I click enter, the address automatically changes to “http:/index?cc=4716” in the address bar and I get the error message "Safari can’t open the page “http:/index?cc=4716” because it can’t find the server “”.:///".
Or when i type in "www.facebook.com" it changes to "http:/" in the address bar and i get the error message "Safari can’t open the page “http:///” because it could not connect to the server “”.
This happens whether i type in the address, click on a bookmark, or click on link from another site (eg, when i click on search result from yahoo).
I have tried clearing my cache, and trashing the safari.pist file...but does not work!
Sorely disappointed as i am new mac user, got the imac for xmas, and now find that i can't surf the net at all.

I have exactly the same problem - started just a couple of days back. No idea why. Safari seems to chop off the first part of an http address sometime, for example:
if the address is http://discussions.apple.com/post!reply.jspa?messageID=6213826
then Safari comes back with an error that says it couldn't find the page http://post!reply.jspa?messageID=6213826 since the server wasn't found
Additionally, when I try to access http://mail.yahoo.com, on some occasions it comes back with the error http://localhost not found - seems to happen only for mail.yahoo.com.
I tried clearing my cache etc on Safari, that didn't make a difference. Then decided I would uninstall version 3 and reinstall it. However, Apple does not just let you download version 3. Instead you have to upgrade to it using Software Upgrade. I've now installed version 2 from my Apple CD but Software Upgrade does not recognise the need to upgrade Safari to version 3 now! How absolutely frustrating - why cant Apple just let ou download version 3 from its website? If someone can help me with this problem too, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

  • Safari cannot load webpages.

Safari cannot load webpages. It only shows blank page while other web browsers work well. How could I solve this?

Glad you were able to get the issue resolved =)
Linc Davis, I am curious where you were able to get the Safari 7.0.3 installer package from?? I thought that the only way you could reinstall Safari 6 and later was by reinstalling the OS?  Also, right-clicking on the Safari app and choosing show package contents did not show the installer.pkg. Just would like to know for future reference since reinstalling OS X for a minor issue such as this is obviously overkill =P

  • Cannot load webpages. Using a PAC file under Airport Proxies?

    Hi,
so I got home today from work and now I can only load certain webpages. I can load the apple homepage, and google, and also google search results will appear, but if i click on any of them, or try to enter another website Safari will say 'cannot find server'. I have compared my Airport settings with my brother's Macbook, also running on the same home wireless network, and the big difference is that whereas his 'Configure Proxies' setting under the 'Proxies' tab in Airport is set to 'Manually', mine is set to 'Using a PAC file'.
Of course I have tried to fix this problem by setting mine to 'Manually' as well, but even if i click 'OK' and "Apply', it seems to instantly revert.
In the meantime, skype is working, as is my RSS reader. Please can somebody give me some ideas as to what could be going wrong?
    Thanks

Alternatively I set the router not to make its own connection and then make the PPPoE connection from the mac.
That is not the best way to use a router. It is better to use the router to make the connection and then let your mac and pc just get an ip from the router using dhcp.
Set your router to use alternative dns servers if your still having issues such as opendns.com

  • Cannot load webpages, multiple browsers out of memory?

    Hi all,
I just got a new macbook air with SSD, 8gb memory... it was running fine all last week but this morning I'm getting all sorts of memory errors and page load problems across all browsers.  I haven't installed/uninstalled anything and haven't changed any system settings recently.
Some pages load fine, both others load without stylesheets, others time out, and others throw memory errors:
    Chrome:
    Error 13 (net::ERR_OUT_OF_MEMORY): Unknown error.
    Safari:
    (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:12)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, a couple of restarts later and it's no longer happening... but not sure why it started in the first place.

  • Cannot Load Webpages when connected thru router, works fine without router

I just purchased an imac (intel duo) and have not been able to surf the web when it is connected to my Cable Modem thru a Linksys Wired Router. All the WinXP systems on the same network (wired or wireless) have no problems. I can get the dashboard widgets and do ping/trace/etc when connected thru the router. The problem is that web pages are very slow to load, if at all. Most pages, including apple.com, partially load and then freeze Safari. Turning off the imac firewall in systems preferences or clearing Safari cache made no difference. When I connect the imac to the cable modem directly, with imac firewall on and locked down, I have no problem surfing or accessing features such as the Itunes store. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I will say that Linksys Routers are notorious for being subpar. My suggestions would be to disconnect the router and cable modem and turn off the computer (and everything).
    Then, wait fifteen minutes.
Then, turn on the cable modem. Let it go through all its blinky phases, then turn on the router. Wait at least three minutes for ole' cranky to wake up. Now turn on your Mac.
This is what you have to do when a router forms a bad DHCP client lease.
An alternate first step would be to manually enter your own IP address that's the same everything except make up a 200 range number and throw it in for Z on the equation before .*..Z.
E.G.: if your DHCP address is 192.168.3.43, make up your own ending and manually enter it. 192.168.43.200. Set the router as x.x.x.1 (e.g. 192.168.43.1) and SubNet as 255.255.255.0

    Hello in:
My "guess" is that the web people have written in Microsoft-specific code. You might E-mail them.
As a workaround, I use Firefox as an alternate browser. I encounter (rare, but it happens) a site that does not play well with Safari (and blow the problem off). If I really want to use it, I try Firefox. In that way, I can determine if the problem is browser-specific or something more global.

  • Firefox cannot load webpages that display pdf files, Safari works OK.

On websites, including http://www.greyhound.com/en/ticketsandtravel/default.aspx, where I buy bus tickets online, pages (ie. bus tickets) that should display as pdf files do not show up, or only partially (e.g. first page only). Before I updated Adobe flash, I received a message that I needed a Quicktime plug-in. After updating Adobe Flash, I don't see this, but I still can't see the pdf files. I don't have this problem with Safari. I'm using a Mac Intel, running OSX 10.6.7, Firefox 4.0.1

    I had the same problem.
I fiddled around with the Plugins and and extensions.
I disabled (removed ) the PDF Nitro program that downloads with Firefox.
I enabled the Adobe plug ins.
I set the PDF information to "open PDF with Plugins".
Not open with OS system or browser.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot directly open the browser from the icon. "problem loading webpage" and "timed out" are the messages. Access was accomplished by using yahoo messenger and opening my email. if I attempt to open a new page, I recieve the aforementioned warnings.

no link to open access to the internet. I used Yahoo Messenger, clicked on the 'mail icon' and since Firefox is my default it opened and I was able to continue from there. If I try to click File, open New Page, I get the "problem loading webpage" and "connection timed out" messages

changed my homepage to Yahoo. Now Firrefox works but still cannot access ANYTHING 'Google"!

  • Firefox cannot load multiple webpages at once, especially apps without crashing.

Firefox doesn't load webpages, especially when tabs are pinned. It cannot connect to more than one site at a time, especially if pandora is playing. Instead of crashing, all I see is spinning gray circles.
Also, startup is the worst, I cannot get 4 pinned tabs to load. I am going back to Internet Explorer, ugh.

You need to use file:// as the protocol instead of C:/. The latter may never work (C:\ might).
Where is the main HTML located ?
Easiest if to store the images in a sub folder of the location because you can't go back via ../ beyond that root location for security reasons.

I have continually waited and it says Firefox is not responding and I may be able to see the multiple tabs opened in my browser but cannot navigate or access them.
I have read on various sites that users have had as many as 1500 bookmarks load at once in tabs in the Firefox browser version that are outdated.
I have not been successful with just loading 50 bookmarks my goal is to be able to have 500 tabs loaded in firefox with webpage loading stopped on all of them. I will choose reload for about 10 tabs at a time to view webpage content and then close and move on to the rest.
My ultimate goal is to clear up the Thousands of bookmarks I have piling on for the past 6 years and some are duplicates or similar page sites.
Their is no Firefox 3rd party addons that I could locate that would allow this. Only to restrict the number of tabs loaded by giving warning messages when limit is reached.
Please assist me as it will greatly help me with finally deleting and re-organizing my Favorite and frequent websites in my Browser of choice Firefox.
The email is generic for privacy but it is valid please respond with methods on how I can achieve my request or suggestions on how I can modify my browser or PC settings to allow this. Thanks Firefox Administration Team.

Firebug is notorious for causing problems like you described.
Disable it when you don't need it or install it in a 2nd Profile. Then you can launch the 2nd Profile separately to use Firebug and not affect what you are doing in the 1st Profile,

I went through the FAQ guide for firefox not loading webpages, but after having changed both boolean setting in the about:config section of the firefox advanced settings, deleting and re-adding it to the program permissions list in my firewall (mcafee antivirus 2011), and even attempting to completely disable the firewall for a period of time, I am still unable to browse the internet on firefox. • Safari fails to load webpages

    Running Safari 5.1.2 (6534.52.7), OSX 10.6.8.
Okay I don't know what the deal is, but lately Safari has been having issues connecting to websites.  Randomly happens on basically every website out there.  Could be in a forum, press next to go to the next page and the balcnk page pops up unable to connect.  It's Safari that's doing it, everything else is fine.  I don't know what was pushed by Apple lately, but whatever it was, it broke Safari.  It's getting annoying to say the least.  The fact that it just randomly decides that it cannot load a page is so aggrivating.  You'd think it would be able to load a page from cache that it just was at, nooo, it claims it cannot connect to the site and you have to reset Safari, exit, and HOPE, that it will actually let you visit a site that you frequent often... like even Apple's own website.  There is something seriously wrong with it at the moment and it's getting to the point now where I will probably just stop using Safari altogether.  It's just that annoying.  How would you like to call your Mother and have the phone tell you no such number exists?  Funny, I've called it a thousand times, but the phone is now telling me it doesn't exist.  Then poof, it decides it does exist.  Then it doesn't.  Then it does.  Then doesn't.

Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
