Cannot load Windows 7 - keeps freezing

Hi Everyone.  This is a biggy.  I have a Toshiba AMD Vision Satellite C660 / C660D laptop with no Windows installation disc.  Last week it became very sluggish, then the interface resembled that of the ‘safe mode’ interface and it finally became completely unresponsive, therefore,  via F8 on start- up I selected the option which allowed for it to revert to factory settings (I no longer have this option)
The DOS screen appeared and started loading as normal then that become unresponsive so I restarted only to see Windows start up for the ‘first time’ and carry on loading, prior to this I had to create a boot cd from my other laptop to reboot the system as I had lost the ‘boot mngr’.
The last part of the installation process began whereby a white Toshiba screen is displayed with a green progress bar that loads certain drivers (see attachment).  There are 39 steps to this process and I seem to remember from before that the computer should keep restarting itself, but it keeps freezing after about two steps.  I kept switching it off and eventually the ‘system administrator’ locked my accounts.
Once again I restarted the PC but this time in ‘safe mode’ The operating system did indeed load in safe mode and I created some new accounts with administrator privileges, however, I am still unable to load the whole operating system as it keeps freezing during the last part of the process.
I have very limited knowledge of loading operating systems so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try holding '0' (zero) as you start the laptop to load the recovery utility and run it again.

  • My windows 7 keeps freezing randomly

    Hi I know there were similar questions asked, but I already tried some things like registry cleaning software, and freezing still keeps comming back so I feel like I need a specific and interactive help.
    So my windows freezes from time to time, today it was every couple minutes while browsing internet through firefox mostly, and single freeze takes from several seconds to minutes.
    Right here for a similar problem I've found suggestion to collect minidump files:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b9c932b4-5926-4f92-b186-c4f90bb86583/windows-7-keeps-freezing-randomly?forum=w7itproperf
    I can do it too, if there is someone here to listen :) and will further help me continue solving this. Thanks.
    Tom

    Ok, so I got some freezes just moments ago and went to collect minidump files. When I tried this:
    Click “Start”, type “%SystemRoot%\Minidump" (without quotation marks) in “Search” bar and press “Enter”.
    ...it found no elements matching.
    Yesterday I've done everything like suggested here:
    1. Click "Start", input "SYSDM.CPL" (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press “Enter”.
    2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery".
    3. Under "Write debugging information" section, make sure the "Small memory dump (128KB)" option is selected.
    4. Make sure "%SystemRoot%\Minidump" is in the "Small dump directory" open box and click “OK”.
    ...except where it sais 128kb I had only option 256kb
    so what is going on?  no minidump folder under my windows folder...

    How do I get rid of adobe's "improve our products" popup window which keeps freezing CS6?

    In theory it would have to come up at least once and then you could choose yes/no. You can also choose that when you install it, so try to reinstall to put the respective configuration in place.

    Hi
    First of all it was a big mistake NOT to create an Toshiba recovery disk.
    The HDD recovery which you were able to start by pressing F8, is only possible if the HDD is not faulty.
    I think in your case I think there is something wrong with the HDD because there was an boot mgr notification which means that notebook cannot find an boot manager in order to boot up the system.
    I have no other idea as to try to reinstall the system using the Toshiba recover disk or another Windows 7 disk (of course if you own one)
    If the recovery would fail, you have to investigate what hardware part might be affected. I think in such case its needed to start with HDD check.
    Possibly the HDD needs to be replaced. Of course it possible that Im wrong an other part is affected but at first stage you need to check new OS installation.
    A recovery disk can be ordered here:

  • Windows 7 keeps freezing, disconnecting/reconnecting USB devices

    Last week, a lightning strike near where I live caused a power surge and as a result, my ethernet card was fried.  I took my computer (iMac) to a store to have it repaired, and they wound up replacing the entire motherboard (a bit extreme in my opinion, but what do I know).
    When I got it back today, sure the ethernet problem was solved, but I noticed that my taskbar was acting weird - specifically the icons in the notification tray.  Lots of them were "blank", meaning there were just empty spaces that would highlight when I hovered the cursor over them, but nothing happened when I clicked them.
    Then I discovered that clicking any of the icons in the notification tray almost immediately froze the computer.  Frozen, as in completely unresponsive to the point where my only option was to manually shut off the computer.  That happened twice.
    My solution was to reboot in safe mode and run system restore to an earlier point.  That fixed the notification tray problem (no more freezing, and the icons were all back), but the computer still keeps freezing at random intervals.  Again, my only solution is to manually shut it off by holding down the power button, which I hate doing because I know it's bad for the hard drive.  Sometimes it froze as soon as the welcome screen.  I tried running a virus scan, but again it froze in the middle of the process.
    On top of the constant freezing, it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting my usb devices.  My mouse and keyboard will suddenly drop out for five seconds and then start working again.  This constantly happens, to the tune of several "disconnect" sounds playing over the speakers.
    What the heck is going on?  I tried re-installing the Boot Camp drivers, but that didn't work.  I have my Windows 7 CD and backed up files, so if worse comes to worst I can do a clean install of Windows, but I'd rather not have to spend a day re-building my computer, and I'd REALLY rather not take it back in for another repair, since that took a week and I need this for my work.
    Any ideas on what I should do?  I'm out of town on my laptop for the weekend, and I'd like to have a game plan for when I get back.

    I'm very excited to finally have a solution for this problem. Thank You Balaji for figuring this out. I've been struggling with this for a number of years, and had only one USB Hard Drive that worked. I too have VMware workstation, and had the missing files
    in "c:\windows\inf." I can say with certainty that I did not delete the files from that folder, but something is common in both of our situations. Maybe it has to do with VMware, and some of it's updates over the years. I'm also using nCompute to share out
    a networked desktop via the wire.
    One more thing worthy of mention is this machine was an update from Windows Vista, and the USB hard drive that worked was configured back than. So although I could never add another HD, at least I had the one.
    Now with having copied over the files, I can plugin other USB enclosures with different drives and they too are working.
    Like you mentioned, it was always possible to use USB devices within my Virtual Machines, so it was clear that the USB ports were functional. I actually got the files from a clean Windows 7 VM, copying out the \windows\inf folder and doing a compare between
    the the real one and the virtual one. I found the two missing files you mentioned, along with 8 others. I went ahead and included them all in your fix.
    It worked, Amazing. Thanks again. :O)

  • T510: Can't load Windows 7, Keeps rebooting only works in safe mode

    Trying to get my T510 up and running after my W520 went DOA after a bios update.  When i power on the laptop it tries to load Windows 7 then goes into a rebooting loop.  I can get into safe mode with networking just fine without issues, so i figured it was a display driver problem.  In safe mode I unstalled the Nvidia drivers and tried to reboot but still got the same issue.  I went into the BIOS to see if I could disable optimus and use just the intel GPU, but I don't even see a setting for disabling it or reference to the NVidia GPU at all.  I'm positive it was there before.
    I've swapped hard drives and memory modules out.  Even tried to do a fresh install of Windows and it still won't load.  I'm out of ideas.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    Try and applied the machine updated in Safe mode. It usually works. If your install is from MS DVD then be sure all the foundation software is installed. Chipset tool especially and build from there.
    You could also run the memory diagnostic after booting from the MS Windows 7 DVD. Eliminate a bad memory module. (If you have two) take the first on out and move the second one into the first slot. See if its stable, remove and insert the other SODIM into the first slot. Why, normal mode is very intense on RAM and also address a lot more memory.

  • Cannot load windows 7 through bootcamp

    i have been trying to load windows 7 through bootcamp. but after the initial partition process, the screen goes blank with a cursor on the top left corner.
    it does not come to life even after 4 hours.
    i did not have any problem making the partition before. this is the first time i have had this issue.
    can anybody help?????

    I just successfully installed Windows 8.1 Update 1 on BootCamp on Mac OS X Yosemite. Here is a step by step I just wrote, hope it helps y'all:
    How to successfully install Windows 8, or above, on Mac OS X Mavericks or above:
    Requirements:
    1- Windows OS ISO Image file
    2- An 8GBs USB Flash Drive
    3- A good Internet connection as you will need to download the Windows compatible drivers for your Mac
    Steps:
    1- Open up Disk Utility and create an additional partition for Windows formatted as ExFat. 100GBs, or above, is recommended as update to the operating system, as well as Apps requiere space on your HD or SSD [This step can be done during Mac OS X's installation process]
    2- Open up BootCamp Assistant
    3- Make sure only the 'Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk' is checked and your USB Flash Drive plugged in and click 'Continue'
    4- Click 'Choose' and select your Windows ISO Image file
    5- Select the USB Flash Drive you will be using during the installation process and click continue to confirm
    6- Once done, restart your Mac and hold down the 'alt/option' key on your keyboard to bring up the Boot Menu
    7- Select the USB Flash Drive named Windows, not the UEFI Boot
    8- Install Windows as you normally would
    * Remember to press and hold the 'alt/option' key, and select the Windows Partition, whenever the installation process requires your Mac to restart

  • After upgrading to Yosemite cannot load past login screen (FREEZE w/IMG)

    I JUST updated to Yosemite, that went fine on my 2012 iMac. However I kept getting this MLB..... type plugin notification that would not go away. Even if i press more information or "ok" it would pop back up again every 10 seconds and kept it as an active window every time. I got very annoyed and started a purge of plugins and extensions that I read online that would relate to it.
    So I guess somehow in my successful purge I deleted an essential start up extension/plugin. Because I can login successfully, but then when it attempts to load my account I get a freeze on this screen.
    Yes I attempted to start in safe mode, it kept giving errors that start up failed to start properly
    I attempted also disk repair. I repaired and verifyed disk through cmd + r and it said everything was fine. Rebooted, still got crazy start up screen
    I also attempted D for a start up command, gave me an archaic verifying for hardware. Again it said nothing was wrong. I did the quick version, currently doing the more through version which takes up to 1+hrs and nothing so far.
    I am asking can I put a start up disk, or some file on a USB start there and try to put back a correct set of start up files? All while trying to preserve my current files?
    Thorough and general help is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,

  • Cannot Load Index Into Keep Pool

    I've sucessfully loaded my ctxsys.context index into the keep pool (works great) using the web page: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/text/htdocs/mem_load.html .
    I'm now trying the techniques to load a regular index (that joins to my text index).
    I've executed:
    alter index PROD_SVC_NDX storage (buffer_pool keep);
    Then I tried the hint INDEX_FFS on the base table:
    select /*+ INDEX_FFS ( INDEXDATA , PROD_SVC_NDX ) */ count(svc_code) FROM INDEXDATA ;
    The optimizer shows a ffs in the algorithm:
    INDEX FAST FULL SCAN| PROD_SVC_NDX |524K| 2047K|251 (2)| 0:00:04
    WHEN I QUERY THE BUFFER CACHE, only 9% of the index is in the keep pool..
    Owner............. Name...........................Type...........Cache....... %BLOCKS........POOL........BSize
    SYSTEM.......PROD_SVC_NDX...........INDEX..........1,248.................9..............KEEP.........8,192.
    How do you load regular index blocks into keep pool?
    What would be the best Oracle forum for this question?
    Joe

    I think the optimizer will always use a full scan for such a query, regardless of hints. What you need to do is fetch all rows individually. This can be done in a PL/SQL block with an outer loop which fetches all the indexed values, and an inner select that performs an indexed lookup with each value. For example:
    Given a table with a primary key index:
    create table foo (pk number primary key, bar varchar2);
    Populated:
    insert into foo values (1, 'aa');
    insert into foo values (2, 'ab');
    insert into foo values (3, 'ac');
    We could do this:
    declare
    v_bar varchar2(2);
    begin
    for q in (select pk from foo) loop
    select bar into v_bar from foo where pk = q.pk;
    end loop;
    end;
    It may well not be necessary to fetch every row - you should experiment and see whether maybe fetching every 10th row - or even every 100th row - is sufficient to fetch all index blocks into the SGA.

  • Cannot load image from computer - freezes @ 50% each time

    Can someone help with this problem. I have saved it and come back to it.  Have tried to upload different images from my saved files on the computer.
    No luck. Each time I try, it jumps to 50% loading and never loads anthing - this is using the Forms Central in Adobe.
    Thanks.

    Hey I see this is an older post, but I am having the same issue.  I am using the desktop app Fromscentral and I am trying to insert an image, a very small image, and I have tried both tiff and jpg versons of it, just a small logo that is like 10K file size and only ablut an inch in size, and it is stopping t 50% downloaded, exactly as the user above described.  I am using MacOS 10.8.4 and an up-to-date Firefox browser and jsut recently acquired the full creative suite.
    Also, Josh one little thing that would be VERY helpful for new users is that when you want to open and continue editing a form you have already begun, in the Acrobat Pro open/creat menus, the main strating place, it should have an option for not just create form but 'Open My Forms".  It was very frustrating earlier not to know how to get to a form I had already spent a lot of time on.  When youa re in formscentral it appears you have no control over where the form document itself (pre-pdf) is being saved.  Acrobat (or rather, formscentral) doesn't tell you that.  Is it only being saved online int he cloud?  This should not be happening.  I was told specifically when I purchased the suite that even though it is called 'cloud' you can save all files you creat locally.  It is a big probelm if that is false and misleading, both for the work I want to do and for the trustworthiness of your company and its reputation.
    Maybe I am wrong and just don't know the software well enough yet, but it already seems like the interface and lack of transparency in where and how it saves things is designed to bully one into 'upgrading' to be able to do more with forms.  I expected to at least be able to do everything I could do in version 9 and to do so at least as easily.  I don't mind a learning curve, but I don't like that I can't hit 'save as' when I am working with form creation and know exactly where it is and open it directly.  That's alsways been one of the GOOD things about Adobe - they haven't fallen into the Microsoft software crap - excuse me, TRAP - of trying to figure out for you what they think you will want to do with the software in every instance including save and storage controls.  Perception is reality, so if there is marketing/sales as the impetus for how this is structured now, Adobe is shooting itself in the foot.  That's not how it got to where it is.  Just my 2 cents, in addition to my question buried back up top.

  • Cannot load windows 2000 (sp3) on pm8m2-v with single sata drive

    I'm using a single WD 80GB SATA Drive (wd800jd) on the pm8m2-v mainboard's via sata controller.  I've gone through the hit F6 and selected the windows 2000 ata/atapi driver and the raid driver (both separately) and the OS install always says it finds no hard drive.  Then I tired both ata/atapi and raid driver for windows xp (even though i'm attempting a windows 2000 install) and it actually finds the drive, but after formatting and copying files, i get an inaccessible boot device failure when it reboots to begin setup.  i've downloaded most recent mobo drivers and bios (the bios on the web is actually older than the one on the board? - web has v1.1 and the board has v2.0)   ideas???

    got it workin with the most recent xp driver from the site... strange

    Thanks Svet for the tip.    One stick of ram booted and one did not.  I can't believe I had not tried that yet!!!  I have read that Windows 7 is picky about ram.
    I had just purchased the mobo/chip combo, ram, hard drive & blu-ray/dvd from a Fry's B & M in town. It was raining here and the saved money was going to be spent! The price was right for the mobo combo.
    I did not check the compatibility of the ram and the mobo which was a mistake.
    After purchasing, I noticed on the ram package, that it says "for i5 & i7" and have also read about timing issues with AMD boards and some certain ram sticks.
    Corsair's website has this ram listed as the value select line.  Not processor specific but lifetime warranty.  Maybe just a bum stick.
    I'm bringing the ram back tonight. (Fifteen day return policy sticker on package.)  Not sure if I should swap for another package or not.  I'm checking to see what they have that could work better.
    Thanks again, Robert
