Cannot log in on laptop/buy songs? Error 50

Today, I was going to buy an album but when I clicked "Buy Now", an error box came up saying Error 50, and so I tried to access my account from iTunes, but it wouldn't even let me through, bringing up the same error box. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, and rebooted my computer. I tried to access my account from my iPad, and it it worked. I was even able to buy the album from my iPad, using the same account. But when I tried on my computer, Error 50 still appeared. So I logged out, hoping that re-logging back in would help. Now I can't even log into my account on my laptop. But everything works fine on my iPad.
What do I do to solve my problem? I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 17 with Windows 8, if that helps.
Please answer soon, if that is possible.

This appears to be a common error with MacBooks Air. If you Google search on the wording of the error code you will find posts in forums all over the internet, and everyone that I have seen is a MacBook Air. And they also seem to have in common that I number of them had been recently worked on by Apple Geniuses at Apple Stores.
The most useful info in resolving the issue is that the image Apple Geniuses are using to format MBA HDDs has a bad .plist file.
To resolve the issue for most folks;
1. Go to Sys Prefs/Network and note your Network configuration. Then remove all network adapters.
2. Trash the file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
3. Restart
4. Go to SYs Prefs/Network and restore the network adapters and configure your Network settings again.
The Mac App Store should now work properly.

ichat can't connect to my AIM account, gives me the error "Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again." Please help!

    HI,
Your specs say OS X 10.6.8 which would be iChat 5.x.x in Snow Leopard.
This version by default tries to login in to the AIM server called login.oscar.aol.com on port 5190 using the TCP protocol.
An internet connection is made up of 65535 of these so called ports (more like TV stations)
Most routers have ports up to port 1024 which means some of the iChat Login Ports are above this.
    Two ways to Solve this.
    1) Change the Login port iChat uses
    2) Change the way the router opens ports.
For 1) go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
    Highlight/select the AIM account.
In the Info Tab deselect the "Enable this Account" to make sure you are Logged out.
In the Server Settings change the Port to 443
You can decide not to use SSL as well if you wish  (the server name automatically loses the leading "s")
For 2) log in to the routers set up pages and make sure it is doing UPnP
This allows the computers  to tell the router which ports to open. It also allows multiple devices to use the same ports.
For iChat this allows it to Screen Share as this happens on an unlisted random port.
Opps  forgot a couple of things.
If you are using an APple ID registed at Apple ending in @mac.com @me.com or @iCloud.com then the passowrd at Apple has to be 16 characters or less to work with the AIM servers.
Additionally the iCloud issued @me.com and @iCloud.com one require you to use iChat 6 in Lion or Messages in Mountian Lion due to changes Apple made to the security of letting AIM "read" the passwords.

  • Messages can't communicate with the account "AIM." Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again

    Hi,
For the first time today, I've been having problems connecting to AIM using Messages. I get the "Messages can't communicate with the account "AIM." Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again." error. I looked at the forums here and I tried deleting my account, restarting my computer, reinstalling the account but to no avail. I've been using messages and mountain lion for a few weeks and never had a problem with connecting to AIM until now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

uncheck SSL in server settings....done deal.  Funny part is I was having the same problem...went to genius bar...they couldnt figure it out...told me to call apple support.  Did that...they told me to re install software after an hour of trying to figure it out...that didnt work either.
amazing the info you can get thru forums.!

  • Cannot log in from laptop (GUID error) using same ID/PW as on desktop, which works

When logging into APP Store from my laptop (MacAir) , Entering user ID/PW returns error:  "No GUID is available. Contact Support for assistance."
same user ID/PW works when logging in using my iMac desktop.
Help returns no help when GUID error is entered - BTW, an explanation of every error message should be returned when entered in the help search field

  • Problem buying song: Error -9813

I have been using iTunes for a while but never purchased a song. Recently I have tried several times to buy a song and keep getting an Apple Store error 9813.
Has the iTunes store been having problems or is it something I am doing. I know my password is right since I was able to log into this forum.

Don't know if it will solve the problem, but I found this link:

  • Cannot log into new laptop

Have a 2 week old Satellite C55-B5240 running Windows 8.1.  Shut down last night and this morning cannot get past the log in screen.  Checked and rechecked the caps, the password, even went on to another computer and changed the password 6 times.  I can sign in with any of the other pc's but not the new one. On-line-chatted with Microsoft and spoke to 3 different techs.  They all said the same things...it was beyond their expertise and I should contact Toshiba, get the Windows 8.1 key from them, and reload 8.1!!  Very funny.  I can't even get online let alone download anything.  They were no help whatsoever!  Spent 2 1/2 hours on chat with them.  I don't know what to do other than call Toshiba on Monday.  Please, I need help.  Really, really aggravated!  I hate that you automatically get stuck with the Microsoft password as your sign in password!!!!

Just a follow-up message....14th time wasn't the charm.  Still had issues, and had to restart the laptop almost every time at log-on.  Called Microsoft and Toshiba and recieved the same answer...have to wipe everything and reload 8.1.  I told them to forget about it, too much trouble, I'll just deal with it.  So, I just kept restarting until the laptop let me log in.  When Windows 10 time around, I said what the hell, I hate the touch screen stuff anyway and some more bugs can't be that bad.  Well, 10 has solved the problem of sign-in.  So I am presuming it was a corrupt file in 8.1 that was causing all the problems.  Don't have a single issue with Windows 10....yet.  If anyone else has issues with 8.1, they might want to run to Windows 10.  Thanks again for all the help.

  • Unable to buy songs - Error 5002

For the past 2 days I have been receiving Error 5002 "unknown problem with iTunes store, please try again later"...when I try to purchase/download songs...I've tried various songs too.
I'm not sure what the problem is..I have the most recent version and I had no problem downloading songs a couple days ago..this is out of the blue.
    Any suggestions?

Yet another Starbucks person who also cannot purchase any songs whatsoever since downloading the free list. I've tried to get my one free song, but haven't been able to do that either. And now when I check to see if I can even plug in the redeem code for the one free song, it says it's already been used. Think if we complained to SBUX corporate about the downside to their "free" downloads something would get done? I emailed apple and have yet to hear back from them. This is getting rather frustrating not being able to purchase songs.

  • "Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again."

I seem to be getting this an awful lot recently, under a message that "IChat can't communicate with the Mac.com account '(mine)@mac.com'". Even though internet and email is working fine.
Is this Aol's problem or Apple's, and either way is there anything I can do about it (other than leave it for a few hours or days, after which it all works; until next time?

    Hi,
If you suddenly lost connection whilst iChat was open then delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist (It is in Your Home Folder/Library/Preferences)
If it was when you launched iChat then try waiting a couple of hours.

  • MacBook Pro keyboard is totally unresponsive (except power button). Low battery was triggered last night, and work was conducted after power was connected. I closed the lid and went to sleep, and this morning I cannot log into my laptop.

The keyboard that is in the Mac is not functioning with the exception of the power button.
Since I am traveling, without a rental car, purchase of an external USB keyboard to troubleshoot and/or resolve the problem is not practical.
How do i wake up the keyboard?

  • Buying songs on different computer

I'm currently using my room-mate's computer who also has an ipod/itunes. All my music is on a different computer that I dont have access to at the moment.
    My questions are:
Can I sign out of my room-mate's account and log into my account, buy songs, ect without what I buy going onto her ipod?
When I log into my itunes account, none of my previous purchases show up because it's not the computer I originally signed up with? so will my friend's songs be sync'd onto my ipod?
Any help will be appreciated....trying to use someone else's itunes with my ipod is confusing.

*Can I sign out of my room-mate's account and log into my account, buy songs, ect without what I buy going onto her ipod?*
Create a completely separate Windows user account on the PC for yourself. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs or download songs etc just as you did with your original one. When you are in this account you can authorise the computer to play your downloads.
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:
    Using Windows XP User Accounts
*so will my friend's songs be sync'd onto my ipod?*
Not if you create a separate Windows account, you'll be using a library of your own not hers. Don't forget as well that if you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

it said "unknown error(5002)there was an error in the Try again later".
can you buy songs or TV episode right now? I just would like to know that it is only my problem or not. Thanks

We are experiencing this sudden error now too. Up until last night, we were accessing our Cart. But, then after adding one more song and deleting some from the cart, we got the error and cannot access the account from any machine. In addition to this one, we have a brand new iMAC "24, dual Intel; a PowerBook G4, and a Gateway Laptop running XP. None of the machines can access this Cart. Our other iTunes account is fine, without problem. But, this account's cart is inaccessible. I can find no solution.

  • HT1926 why can't i sign in for itunes and buy songs. it says error 0000000xmething am i missing something and what is an extender player i am missing that

why can't i sign in for itunes, it says the itunes store is unavaible. but it has been for a whole month now, why can't i buy songs, it lets me listen to the radio only but not buy or open my account, it says error 00000000x something, and what am i missingto listen and download and to buy itunes

    Hi Bill!
If the decrypt went without any interruptions or anything that looked like an error then your computer is probably OK. The fact that none of your accounts can log in leads me to believe you may some corruption somehwere else.
Find your software installation CD or DVD that came with your Mac or that you purchased in a store and insert it into the drive. You can boot to it by holding down the "C" key at startup.
After you pass the initial screen for language you'll see the software installation page. Ignore this. Instead look under the menus for Disk Utility. Run Repair Permissions and Repair Disk. Restart and try to log in again.
If that doesn't work then restart from the disk again and look for the menu option to reset an administrator password. If you can get into just one admin account then you should be able to reset passwords for any others.
If resetting an admin password doesn't work then I suggest you look into using a third party tool such as DiskWarrior from Alsoft <http://www.alsoft.com>. It is an excellent tool for repairing disk problems. If you have Apple Care then you may have also receieved a CD for TechTool. You can run that as well.
    Hope this helps!

  • I can't buy songs because error 11503 occurred

I tried to buy songs and whenever I tried, the error message popped up, saying "error 11503 occurred and try later".
So I tried to go into my iTunes account and send a message or something, but I can't do that either. It says "503 service unnavilable".
Aaarrrhh, what is wrong with iTunes?

Here's a possible fix for Error 11503 and for error 50.
It worked for me and hopefully it will work for you.
I believe this error is caused by the incomplete downloading of either an update to an app, or perhaps a big music file. In my case it was caused by closing the lid on my laptop when I was downloading app updates on a very slow internet connection in a hotel.
Anyway, here is what I did that fixed it completely.
    Close iTunes.
    Go to this folder : /iTunes/Mobile Applications/Downloads
You'll find tmp files there. Drag them out of this folder to a temporary folder on your desktop. The Downloads folder should now be empty.
    Restart iTunes.
    All should be fine.
If it's not, then I can't help further, but that's what worked for me.
