Cannot log into iMessage on iPad

Hi,
Strange thing happening: I cannot log into iMessage using my appleid. I can use this same appleid to
- buy apps on this very same ipad
- sign in to iMessage on my iPhone (ios6) or mac (mavericks).
The error my Ipad gives me is username / password not correct
This is an ipad 2 16Gbyte 7.1.1.
I tried to restart my ipad, restarted the iMessage app serveral times...
Any idea ?!

Tried all that.
It is really weird, as the ipad having the issues is on the same network as the mac that works.
the network (internet connectivity) just works (can surf, and buy apps (with the samen uid/pwd
as appleID)
The errormessage tells me that the username / password combination is wrong, nothing
else, which is really weird. (really sure I have the correct UID/pwd ! (the one that works on
the mac))
the ipad is a wifi only one.

    Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. If that does nothing to solve the issue, then it is likely times to restore the iPad to its factory settings.

    It appears that you get an error when trying to activate iMessage and FaceTime on your iPad mini.
    You mentioned that you signed out of iMessage and FaceTime because messages were not delivering. Be sure to restart your iPad mini before trying to sign back in to iMessages or FaceTime, as mentioned in this article:
    If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support
    Restart your device.
    If this issue continues and iMessage can't be activated for more than an hour, the article above suggests contacting Apple Support:

    Hi Cam-Fox22,
    I have had this problem and tried everything suggested without success until last night. I took the plunge and did a Factory reset which cured the problem. Of course you must do a back up to iTunes first. I connected the iPad to my PC via a cable and then loaded iTunes. Log in to the account associated with your iPad and then carry out a backup of your iPad including apps and purchases. Then hit reset option near the top of the page and hit again when asked if sure. It takes a while to download the software but eventually it wiped the iPad and loaded it with fresh software. Keep your iPad connected and then restore from back-up when given that option. When it is all finished you will have your iPad back just as it was before you started but with iMessage and Facetime both working again.

    I changed my Apple password and now I cannot log into iMessage.  It just flips back to log-in screen & says it cannot verify & that I need to log back into my apple account.  Help?

    Go to Settings > Store, touch your Apple ID, log out, then back in with the updated information.  Then go to Settings > iCLoud and verify the correct address.  Then do the same in Settings > Messages.......Once all all correct, you should be good to go......

    I recently updated to OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and have found I cannot log into iMessages. When I entered my Apple ID and password, the "spinner" spins and spins and I am never logged in. When I bypassed the iMessage welcome screen and tried log in via iMessage preferences, it gives me an error message. The header is, "Could not sign into iMessage." The message is, "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." I did some research on this, but didn't find anything that helped me. My network connection is fine as I can use iMessage on my iPhone on the same WiFi network.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again.     Where are you trying to log in? You should be able to change your ID at http://appleid.apple.com - can you log in there?
    Before you change your ID you should log out of the iTunes Store and on any devices which are logged into iCloud. Then once you've changed it you can log back in with the new ID. (Your iCloud synced data will disappear from the device when you do this but will reappear when you sign back in - give it time).
    If you are unable to sign into http://appleid.apple.com you will need to contact Support. Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.     I can still access the internet. I can still log into my iCloud. I reset my network settings and restored my iPad twice already. I tried all the stuff I could find on YouTube to include changing my DNS setting to 8.8.8.8 I don’t know why I can’t log on. I bought the iPad in Germany and it worked. When I came back to Turkey where I live it worked. I took a trip to the states in December and it worked. Now that I’m back in Turkey, I can’t even log on. For both the facetime and imessage I get a message that says “ Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again. I tried to all the help line twice and they couldn’t even help me. I just bought this in November and don’t know why it’s not working……….Help if you can. Thanks for the response.

    Try a Restart. 
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
    You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
    Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

    1) I have contacted Verizon and they are not blocking "premium" or 3rd party text messages.
    2) The Apple ID login issue occurs regardless of wi-fi network location, or even if I am not on wi-fi at all. Router settings are irrelevant to this problem.
    3) I have already played around extensively with date and time settings. This did not fix any issues.
    Any other suggestions? I had another call with Apple support and they are of the opinion that I may need to have the phone totally replaced, which is unacceptable unless it is free of charge.
