Cannot log into OpenDirectory server

I am running OSX Server 2.2 on a Mac Mini with 10.8.5.  I have successfully enabled Open Directory and created several users that are set up as Services Only, as they do not need home directories, only file sharing and (hopefully in the future) contacts and single sign-on.
I am able to bind my computer to the OD server using the fully qualified domain name (internal.xxxx.org) and get the green "enabled" dot in the Users page on the Mac.
I turned on "Allow Network Users to Log In" and tried to log in as my network user, and it "shakes" when I enter the username and password, and won't log in.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm unclear how to log in as a network user from my Mac's sign-in screen.  I also tried using the administrator's account, which is an actual user account on the server and that did not log in either.  It doesn't seem like the Mac is even attempting to check the server for user information.
Thank you.

Many Open Directory problems can be resolved by taking the following steps. Test after each one, and back up all data before making any changes.
1. The OD master must have a static IP address on the local network, not a dynamic address.
2. You must have a working DNS service, and the server's hostname must match its fully-qualified domain name. To confirm, select the server by name in the sidebar of the Server application window, then select the Overview tab. Click the Edit button on the Host Name line. On the Accessing your Server sheet, Domain Name should be selected. Change the Host Name, if necessary. The server must have at least a three-level name (e.g. "server.yourdomain.com"), and the name must not be in the ".local" top-level domain, which is reserved for Bonjour.
3. The primary DNS server used by the server must be 127.0.0.1 (that is, itself) unless you're using another server for internal DNS. The only DNS server set on the clients should be the internal one, which they should get from DHCP if applicable.
4. Follow these instructions to rebuild the Kerberos configuration on the master.
5. If you use authenticated binding, check the validity of the master's certificate. The common name must match the hostname and domain name. Deselecting and then reselecting the certificate in Server.app has been reported to have an effect in some cases. Otherwise delete all certificates and create new ones.
6. Unbind and then rebind the clients in the Users & Groups preference pane. Use the fully-qualified domain name of the master.
7. Reboot the master and the clients.
8. Don't log in to the server with a network user's account.
9. Disable any internal firewalls in use, including third-party "security" software.
10. If you've created any replica servers, delete them.
11. As a last resort, export all OD users. In the Open Directory pane of Server, delete the OD server. Then recreate it and import the users. Ensure that the UID's are in the 1001+ range.

  • Cannot log into AD on Mountain Lion. Please help! I got the logs

My company has been experiencing this problem ever since Mountain Lion released.
The problem is, we cannot log into AD on all of our MAC who currently runs Mountain Lion. We, however, can log into AD fine with Lion and Snow Leopard just fine. We only use AD, we don't use Open Directory or have any Apple server.
I have gather some logs using the SSH. Please help me view the logs and let me know what's going on if possible.
Here are the steps that I performed before capture these logs.
I format the hard drive and installed a new OS X 10.8.2 on the hard drive using the Recovery Mode (Hold down option Key while boot).
I created a new computer name call ittest-mac3 in AD and assigned to proper OU. I changed the computer name under System Preferences ==> Sharing to "ittest-mac3".
       3.  I bind this Macbook Pro to our Active Directory via xyz.com. The bind was successful. I enabled "Create mobile account at login", "Required confirmation before creating a mobile account", " Force local home directory on start up disk", " Use UNC path from active directory to derive network home location", "Default user shell: /bin/bash/. Network protocol to be used: smb:
After I reboot the Mac client, I was unable to log into it using our regular AD user account (consider all of our employees has regular account).
I created 2 test accounts for Mac on Active Directory, they are "mac test" and "mac test 2".
With "mac test" account, I configured everything the same as our regular account in AD. Which I was not able to log into the Mac client using this account.
With “mac test 2” account, I configured everything the same as our regular account in AD EXCEPT for UNIX Attributes. I was successfully logged into the Mac client using this user account.
So the problem is ... set the Unix Attributes for NIS domain on the AD account prevent everyone of us in our company to log into AD on any client that have Mountain Lion OSX installed.
    Here are the logs:
Log1. This logs showed successful when log into AD on a Mountain Lion OSX using an AD account that don't have UNIX attributes setting configure.

    -Reece,
We only have 1 single domain, 1 domain forest, no subdomains, only alias. I had replied to the other post as well. But I am happy to paste it here in case anyone want to read it.
So, after a few months of testing, capture and sending logs back and forth to Apple Engineers, we found out there is a setting in AD, under User Account that prevent us to log into AD from Mountain Lion. If you would go to your AD server, open up a user account properties, then go to Account tab, the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" option is checked. As soon as I uncheck that option, immediately I was able to log into AD on the Mac client. Apple engineers copied all my AD settings and setup a test environment on their end and match exact mine AD environment. They was able to reproduce this issue.
The bad part about this is... our environment required the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" is checked in AD, in order for our users to login into some of our Unix and Linux services. Which mean that it is impossible for us to remove that check mark because most, if not all of them some way or another require to login into applications that run on Unix and Linux. Apple is working to see if they can come up with a fix. Apparently, no one has report this issue except us. I believe most of you out there don't have that check mark checked in your environment... Anyone out there have any suggestion to by pass or have a work around for this?

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET
USE LPT2 \\computer\printer password /USER:domain\user /PERSISTENT:YES and then tell the driver to print to LPT2 –  James

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James

  • Having problem with svchost.exe/ntdll.dll errors causing GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash preventing users from logging into the server.

Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I have noticed a few of our servers will have problems with the svchost.exe application causing the GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash. The only fix at that point is to reboot the server since the GPSVC service is tied
to svchost.exe and therefore is protected from being manually restarted.
I noticed the following errors when this occurs:

All of our servers are running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise where we use Citrix to deliver desktop sessions to our users, but some are virtual and some are physical. This seemingly impacts our virtual machines more, and our VMs are hosted through VMWare, however,
about 5 months ago a similar error fired on a non-virtual machine:

I've searched and cannot seem to find any information as to what may be causing this, or even really where to start. Would someone be able to help me identify what might be causing this event, specific with the Exception code: 0xc0000024, which causes
the Group Policy Client service to stop?

You still out there looking at things? If so I have an update. The issue hasn't stopped, even though it did seemingly die down for awhile, however, it is now back with a vengeance.
I am able to force it to happen by killing the svchost process that is hosting GPSVC. If I run gpupdate /force, then logout/login it does get GPSVC running again. Furthermore, if I simply start svchost again via the Task Manager GPSVC starts running again.
When I access the server remotely with KVM it acts just like it does as if I'm logging into it via Citrix/RDP which for Admin IDs gives an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service...",
however, normal user accounts just get a message when logging into the server "The Group Policy Client Service Failed the Logon. Access is denied."
I haven't opened a case with Microsoft yet, but we about ready to because of the increase in these errors.
If you have any further suggestions that would be great, otherwise I'll provide an update once I get word back from Microsoft.
**EDIT -- apparently I mistook the the server's SCM's actions as my own. I was able to successfully crash the GPSVC service by killing the hosting svchost process, however, after I crashed it and let it sit crashed for awhile when I attempted
to restart either by starting a svchost task, or running gpupdate /force it failed. Either that, or there is a timing issue where if we don't restart the svchost process, or run gpupdate /force quickly enough it won't be able to recover without a reboot.

  • PeopleTools 8.49 Application Designer cannot log into HRCS 9.0 Database

    Folks,
Hello. I am working on Human Resources and Campus Solution 9.0 (HRCS 9.0) Portal. The thing is as below:
I understand HRCS 9.0 requires PeopleTools 8.50 or higher. But I have no choice to use PeopleTools 8.49 for it.
My PeopleSoft Internet Architecture is PeopleTools 8.49, Weblogic 9.2, Tuxedo 9.0 and MS SQL Server 2005.
My Operating System is Windows Server 2003 on the top of VM Player 3.
First time, I installed HRCS 9.0 with PeopleTools 8.49 and set up HRCS 9.0 Database in SQL Server successfully.
Application Designer log into Database HRCS 9.0 successfully with UserId PS and Password PS.
Later, the miserable thing happens to me: I delete HRCS 9.0 Database in SQL Server by an accident !
I set up HRCS 9.0 Database again, but Application Designer cannot log into HRCS 9.0 Database any more.
I create a new Virtual Machine to install entire PIA and PeopleTools 8.49 with Windows Server 2003 and set up HRCS 9.0 Database, but Application Designer still cannot log into HRCS 9.0 Database.
    My question is:
How to have PeopleTools 8.49 Application Designer log into HRCS 9.0 Database in SQL Server 2005 as I did it at the first time ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
When you look at the readme on Oracle Software Delivery Cloud for PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Campus Solutions 9.0:
PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Campus Solutions 9.0 – Revision 5: This part (number V30469-01) has replaced the PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Resources Management System (HRMS) and Campus Solutions 9.0 media (part number B34591-01), the PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Resources Management System and Campus Solutions 9.0 - Revision 1 media (part number V20635-01) and the PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Resources Management System and Campus Solutions 9.0: Feature Pack – March 2011 media (part number V24852-01). New installations of PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Campus Solutions 9.0 should use this part. If you have already installed the original HRMS and Campus Solutions 9.0 (part number B34591-01) media, Revision 1 (part number V20635-01) media, or Feature Pack - March 2011 (part number V24852-01) media, you should install the Maintenance Packs or bundles available on My Oracle Support; you should not install this part. The PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Campus Solutions 9.0 – Revision 5 media includes all maintenance posted through December 27, 2011 (up to PeopleSoft HCM and CS Maintenance Pack 13, PeopleSoft HRMS Bundle #18, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Bundle #23, PeopleSoft Payroll Tax Update 11-F, and Global Payroll Update 2011-F). If you install this media, you do not need to separately install these maintenance packs or bundles. All installs of HCM and Campus Solutions 9.0 – Revision 5 require PeopleTools 8.52.03 or higher+. Please check the upgrade documentation for the PeopleTools requirements for your specific upgrade path. For additional information on PeopleSoft Feature Packs, please go to My Oracle Support.
So if you are using the install files from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud for PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Campus Solutions 9.0, you can only download the revision recut that is running on PeopleTools 8.52.03 and you can not downgrade to PeopleTools 8.49.
If you have your original installation files (HRMS 9.0 on PeopleTools 8.49), you can use these.
If you do not have your original installation files, you only option is to contact Oracle

    Hakan

  • Update 10.5.6 Cannot log into POP email account

After the upgrade to 10.5.6 I cannot log into my email account anymore. I get a message saying that the mail server does not recognize user or password. My wife has an account with the same provider and it works, however, when she tried to create a test account with the same information she gets the same behavior. Additionally I cannot see any of the email previously stored locally, the folders are there but they are empty. Any help would be appreciated
    Steven
PS. We have tried deleting the plist in Preferences and a few other things suggested in this discussion thread already, nothing works.

    This issue may be closed.
The correct account information was entered, but the preferences file (com.apple.mail.plist) was freshly saved upon closing Mail, ie., the original, corrupt Mail preferences file was retained, so Mail would not connect to the account.
When I closed Mail and deleted the preference file (com.apple.mail.plist) Mail was then able to connect to my account and download. I was also able to Import email from a previous version of OS X and this mail was imported to an "Import" folder.

  • System cannot log into domain

Have a 2003 server that crashed, both hard drives went bad at the same time. (Mirror), so was able to ghost the drives to a new drive, run the windows repair (1st screen) and was able to get the system back up and running, only thing is that when i booted
the first time, an error popped up that the netlogin service was not running, so i logged into the server, (local machine, not domain) and started the service and set to automatic. Now when i boot, i try to log into the server and it shows the domain in the
drop down box, but says "the system cannot log you in because the domain XXXXXX is not available. I don't really want to have to create all the users again and the permissions. any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You referred “so i logged into the server, (local machine, not domain)”, but at last you said “I don't really want to have to create all the users again and the permissions”.
I’m a bit confused, can you elaborate it?
The error indicates connectivity issue between DC and client.
Run nslookup, check if this domain name could be resolved.
Ping DC, make sure you can get to DC.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to log into wiki - server setup generals

    Hallo!
I am new to SL Server problems and would like to know how to set up a wiki server and ical server properly.
Is there a short manual for this? The manuals by apple dont realy tell me anything specific.
For example i cannot log into my wiki with a given account.
And the ical server utility does not find an account or so.. but i can use a calender from a user i created...
    Kind regards
    Michael

Using OS X 10.6.8 you can update to 10.8 mountain lion, if you meet the hardware requirements.
From there on you can install OS X Server, when you meet het additional requirements.
OS X Server doesn't have a learning curve compared to Snow Leopard server, it costs a fraction

  • Cn=orcladmin cannot log into OID Self Service Console

    Dear All 1!!
I synchronized my Microsoft AD users with Oracle Internet Directory server, and configure these users for external authentication through the use of plug-in. Every thing was running fine, unless i disabled the plug-in to enable it later again. After this activity, my orcladmin cannot log into the OID Self service console, however the migrated users can successfully log in. I can still log into the Oracle Directory manager with orcladmin.
Is there something specific i need to do to enable orcladmin to log into the self service console again.
    Regards,
    SwapSawe.

    Hi All !!!
I resolved this one, it was easy, wonder how did i miss it. The solution is to open the Oracle Directory Manager, traverse to Pluin-Management, adwhencompare/adwhenbind -> Optional properties, and enter "(|(!(objectclass=orcladuser))(cn=orcladmin))" in Plug-in Entry properties. It required a system restart to work it well, just a restart for OID ias-component won't work.
    Thanks for the look,
    Regards,
    Swapnil.

  • Cannot Log into Console DS 5.1

    DS 5.1
    OS Sun 9
I cannot log into the admin console. I have tried to change the encrypted password in the dse.ldif file and when I save the file with a blank one, I cannot login due to the "OK" button is greyed out. Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi
This happens because you have manually modified the password in the configuration file, where you should not have done.
The only solution is to revert back to the old dse.ldif file and perform a ldapmodify command for changing the password.
If you still dont get the password fixed, you need to reinstall your Directory Server.
    Thanks
    Swaraj

  • Cannot log into old rooms

I cannot log into rooms anymore that have been created days ago. If I create a new room (e.g. ddd....), everything works fine. I does not work using server code or the room console (LCCS SDK Navigator, version 1.2.5). In the room console, I can log into the account (blocstac) and see all applications and rooms. When I select an old room (e.g. bbb...) and click "Enter Room", the hourglass runs forever. When I select ddd..., everything works fine.
    The Java server throws:
    com.adobe.rtc.util.RTCError: not-active
            at com.adobe.rtc.account.AccountManager.checkStatus(AccountManager.java:907)
            at com.adobe.rtc.account.AccountManager.publishItem(AccountManager.java:573)
It's a free devl account that has been only used for a few cents this month. Could you have a look?
    Thanks,
    Marc

Ok, it works again, thanks. Anything I could do that it does not happen again?
    Marc

  • Cannot log into Icloud on my pc

I cannot log into Icloud with my pc I keep getting the error message :
Icloud encounter  an error while trying to connect with the server.

Been looking for similar posts, surprised I haven't found more, because I'm fairly certain that there is a current problem with some parts of Apple's server network: I have 3 iCloud accounts in Mail on my Macbook, and 1 of them (annoyingly, my main one) has not been able to connect for an hour or two. And both of the others wouldn't connect for a few minutes, but are now working again.
More suprising is that trying to log in to webmail (www.icloud.com) is giving a very unhelpful error message, suggesting the server is down. Everything else Internet is working fine for me, and haven't changed any settings, so fairly sure problem is Apple's end.
It's possible that your iPhone is collecting your mail via a different server route that is still working; my three iCloud accounts are collecting via p02.imap.mail.me.com, p09.imap.mail.me.com and p99.imap.mail.me.com, and it's only p02 that's consistantly not working.

  • Cannot log into nokia support discussions

Cannot log into this site on my N900 or Ovi store. Both OK on my pc.

i had this problem before, let me guess you can't sign in with opera or firefox 2 .
anyway i think its just a server problem, with me it was fixed all by it self after some time.

  • I keep getting a message that I have logged into the server maximum times or server has timed out

I had an upgrade to my system and it changed my logging into the server to every 10 minutes. Can you reset it on your end so I can use my email again. We fixed the logging into the server so that will not happen again. I cannot send or receive emails on Thunderbird and I also get a connection to server has timed out when I try to send an email. Thanks
