Cannot login after awaking from sleep (login screensaver sleep problem)

After awaking from sleep or returning from the screensaver, the "loginwindow" of system.login.screensaver (visible after checking "details") does not recoginze the correct password. It is not possible to login this way anymore.
Very annoying!
Fortunately, I found a workaround using the functionality to switch users. The standard OS X welcome screen recognizes my password.
Anyone experiencing the same or with a way to correct the initial problem?
PS: the user account in question is a "network user"; it works as expected for a local user

More info:
It seems to be the screen going to sleep, not the computer. When I come back and touch the mouse or the keyboard, as the screen lights up, there is a flash of the web pages I left up, then they vanish.
Yikes!!!

  • Weird artifacts after awaking from hibernation

    Hi,
I noticed recently with my 2013 13" MBA after recovering from hibernation my screen has artifacts. After awaking from hibernation (deep sleep), the log in screen is completely fuzzy. And artifcates on the screen and icons.
This only happens after awaking from deep sleep and not regular sleep.
All these fuzziness disappears after I restart the system. However, after I start the system, all default mac icons disappears, in the menu bar and in applications like Finder and Mail.
I figured out that I can reboot into Safe Mode to recover the icons. However, I would have to repeat these steps everytime my MBA wakes from hibernation in order to remove the artifacts and recover the icons.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I did two things and that seems to mitigate the problem (not fully solved yet, unfortunately). I did both things together but I am not sure if both are necessary – perhaps you only need to perform one of them.
Performed a deep clean of the caches. I used Lion Cache Cleaner but you can use any other tool.
Installed the MacBook Pro Video Update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1469.
Performing those steps seem to have solved the weird dashboard display and the window straddling problem. However, the Application Switcher (command-tab) problems still occurs.
Two other observations that I have:
I think that there is some relation with this problem and the dynamic switching between the integrated Intel and NVIDIA graphics. I notice (by checking using gfxStatusCard application) that as long as I am running on the Intel graphics the problem does not happen. Once I start using an application (for me that would be Keynote, Path Finder or NetNewsWire) that switches to the NVIDIA graphics card the problem happens.
Because I am on a MacBook Pro mid-2010, I think my problem might be related to the NVIDIA graphics problem that plagued the early version of Lion. You can find out more at this ARS Technica article. I suspect that the issue was never fully addressed by the later updates to Lion.

Why can I login to iTunes from my phone with no problem, but I can't login to iTunes from my desktop using the same login credentials. I can use a different appleID and login to itunes with no problem.

Thanks for your reply.  I mean that only when all of my music in the cloud is shown on my phone can I delete the music stored on my phone.  I should be able to delete music that is stored on my phone when I can view ONLY the music that is taking up the phone's memory.

  • Brightness issue after awaking from suspend

I hope it's in the right category...
After waking up notebook from suspend in Gnome (I didn't try it in KDE), the brightness is at its full. Normally, it is set to like 30%. Any ideas why is brightness full after awaking and how to make it to keep the brightness as it was before suspending?
    Thanks

Hm, that is interesting. I had ACPI installed. Then, I installed acpid and added acpid to the daemons in /etc/rc.conf. But that didn't fix the issue. I even tried to change brightness settings in Gnome but that didn't help either. I also tried to fix the issue according to Wiki entry in acpid. It did not work.
If it helps, I'm pasting my /etc/acpi/handler.sh:

  • After installing Yosemite, cannot login after wake from sleep mode

After upgrading to Yosemite this morning, I've had the problem that after the computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot log back in to use the computer because I can't enter my user password.  The screen looks fine after I press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse (I see the users and where I would type my password), but mouse clicks do not allow me to activate the password box (however, I do see the mouse pointer and can move it), and any buttons pressed on the keyboard have no effect.  If I shut the computer down, I can login without problem.  Any thoughts on how to resolve this?  I'd hate to have to turn the computer off every time I step away for 10 minutes...

  • Cant login after wake from sleep

In the last month I've noticed that sometimes when I wake my mac book pro (from a deep sleep?), I cant login. I enter my password and press enter and the textbox disables as if it is about to login but then nothing happens. It doesn't complete logging in. I cant press escape, I cant type in the password text box anymore, I cant click the button next to textbox. Nothing. I have to do a hard power off. I've cleared NVRAM. Which, consequently, when I do that, the mac book usually hangs at half of the progress bar on the black screen with the apple logo. I can only get the system back up by booting into safe mode and then restarting.
Anyone have any idea how to trouble shoot or fix the login issue?
    Mikey

Sorry to resurrect an old-ish thread but I'm having the EXACT same issue with my MacBook Pro.  I have all the latest OS updates applied..10.6.8 or whatever version is the latest as of 6/27/11.  I have taken it into the Apple store three times now...they've fixed permissions and run all the diagnostics and everything checks out 100%.  I have even done a complete wipe and reinstall of OSX, but it still locks up sometimes when clicking a user on the login screen.
Have you been able to resolve the issue on your system?

  • Safari Pages and Mail cannot be seen after awaking from sleep

If I leave Safari or Mail open, all of a sudden now when I come back and wake the computer from sleep, the programs are open, but the pages or mailboxes cannot be seen. New pages do not open. All that is seen is the menu bar, which seems to operate normally, but no inboxes or pages appear. I have to shut the computer down to get it to work again.
    Any thoughts?

  • 5G iPod wont play after awaking from sleep

Im not sure why but all the previous posts for this very same problem have been archived without answers. When my ipod is left to go to sleep on its own, after its woken from sleep mode it wont play - even though the default pause icon changes to the play arrow the counter never starts and no audio is heard. I must turn it off and then on again to begin playing. If I turn it off ( hold play button ) instead of ever letting it go to sleep it works perfect every time. I see many others posting for the same issue in the past - I smell Firmware Upgrade !!!
Anyone found any other possible fix?
    Thx - Mike

I see helpful answers as 2 and solved answers as 1, but I dont see where those answers are, however, I think your G5 has the same problem I do. For some reason it takes a LOT of smackin me around in the morning to wake me up. I've had this problem for years, and I still don't have a solution.
Seriously, the problem will take some troubleshooting, but do you have any "other" enhancements in your system preferences or other apps loaded that might have an option to put your computer to sleep? if so, you may have a setting there that is putting your mac to sleep immediately after waking it. Also, try going to the system preferences and selecting "never" for putting the computer to sleep, then go to your "Apple" icon and manually put your mac to sleep (first option above restart) and then move your mouse or try some keys to wake it up and see if it stays awake. If the mac stays awake, then I would say this leads me to believe its your system preferences giving you the conflict.

  • NAS Shares disconnect after awaking from sleep

I have been searching and searching for a solution to this frustrating problem.
Every time my laptop goes to sleep the SMB shares from my NAS become unresponsive. The only way to fix the problem is to reset my computer. Obviously this is a problem.
I once found a program that I thought my have worked that automounted the share but deleted out of stupidity and can't find it. I have added the shared to my login account and that works at startup but not when I wake the computer up from sleep. Please help this is frustrating!
I should add that the NAS is a HP MediaSmart 487

  • Locking-up after awaking from sleep

I have a Dual 1.8 G5 PowerMac running 10.4.6. After about 5-7 times being put to sleep it locksup trying to wake up. All I get is my desktop with icons but no mouse and no response. The only thng i can do is hard boot with the power button. What could cause this?

    Dear Matthew,
The issue is a sleep issue which can be a hardware related or software relate. You need to inform me if the sleep crash happens when you evoke it from the apple menu or auto sleep function (both functions through operating system) or when you press the power button to evoke sleep (this functions direct through hardware).I am possiably thinking this is due to the software as you must be doing it through the operating system.
There is also a firmware update associated for this issue for single 1.8 GHz processor http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302212
HOWEVER I did observe that your unit is a dual processor.
As to troubleshoot this issue if this is a software related issue you will have to drag a file called Energysaver.plist on to the desktop. The Location of this file is under :
    HDD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration folder > Energysaver.plist
Once you have dragged this file to the desktop restart the unit and check.
If this is a hardware related then try to reset the PMU and repair the RAM and check.
    Hope this information is helpful.
    Good Day !

  • Incorrect FileVault Password on login after update from OS X 10.7.4 to 10.7.5

Today I encountered a minor bug in the update to OS X 10.7.5, found the solution and thought it might be helpful to others:
After updating my MacMini 2007 (running OS X 10.7.4, with Server services active) to OS X 10.7.5,
the machine did its normal-post-update restart routine.
When prompted for the FileVault 2 password, the password I entered was incorrect. I tried several times without success.
Then I entered the password using the keys of the US-keyboard layout instead of my the german keyboard layout that I actually have.
    Success.
I live in germany, use a german keyboard, BUT have my system language in english. No clue if that's what confused OS X.
Bad thing is that there is no indication whatsoever to make you aware of it, no country flag in the corner, no regular text field where you can see what you type.
Anyway, it was only for the first restart, after that it was back to normal.
    Already posted an Apple Feedback.
Maybe this post helps some people with the same problem.
One more thing, the same happened here with the 10.7.4 Install ESD starting from external drive, when I tried to unlock my internal disk via Disk Utility. The password dialog sets the input source ALWAYS to US-keyboard layout, and on the top left corner it can't be changed... a bit annoying when you have millions of special characters in your disk password. But at least its shown in the top right corner... thats why I figured out the problem with my password after the update to 10.7.5, otherwise I would have been quite clueless and probably ended up erasing the whole disk.
    Cheers everyone!

    Hi!
    Thank you for posting this!
    I can verify this issue.
Search for "us keyboard layout" and you can bring up a picture that will help you find special characters.

  • T410 looses screen resolution after awaking from sleep?

I have all up to date drives installed from lenovo Update utility. When my laptop comes out of sleep the screen reolution get lost and then to restore it back I just have to right click onmy desktop and click Nvidia control panel to restore back. Anyone has idear how this strange issue can be fixed? Thanks.

For anyone who wants to find the right Apple Mac screen that does not flicker, good Luck! The early Mac Books Pro's, had some screens made by two different manufactures.
Go into Terminal on your Mac. If the code
starts with "LP" you have an LG screen
if they start with "LSN" you have a samsung screen.
LG seems to be the problem? Samsung was so much better. Well for me anyway.  Cant use modern macs and old macs......only a 2008 so far!
Try filming the screens on a slow shutter speed and watch the flicker, they all move at different speeds.
Some early ones don't really show up! : )  ( Samsung screen )
    Ref below.
I look forward to Apple admitting the problem and fixing it.....Flicker free please.

  • My iPad loses it's ability to connect to the internet after awaking from sleep mode. Needs to be rebooted to reconnect.

My iPad loses it's ability to reconnect to the wifi after sleep mode often times, but not always. It is very annoying because it requires a reboot to reconnect. It is running the latest iOS software update. I have also reset network settings to the factory defaults. My wifi is working fine, and all other devices in my house have no issues at all.

Well, I think I have finally come up with a solution. It seems this issue happens when it auto locks. I turned auto lock to "never" in settings, and the issue has not happened since. Seems there may be a bug in this feature???
I now use manual lock, and upon awakening the wifi is now fully working.
