Cannot Login after installing Leopard

Hello,
I just installed Leopard, and after restarting I had the "blue screen" problem. I followed the instructions (removing the the "ApplicationEnhencer.bundle" file from the troubleshooting section on the Apple website), and after restarting, I was able to acces the login page.
After entering my personal password, I had the following message: "you have to restart you computer by pressing the start switch for several seconds".
The only thing I can do is to login via other users of this computer but I cannot access my own account anymore!
Can somebody help me?
Regards,
Lins.
P.S: here is the error report:

  • Cannot login after snow leopard install

    Hi
I have installed snow leopard onto my macbook pro, it worked ok after install and then after shutting down and restarting the next day I can no longer login. It says that there is a problem with filevault - "your home folder which is protected by filevault didn't open. it needs to be repaired. To repair folder continue log in." So I clicked ok and it says that "you are unable to login at this time because an error occurred"
Please can someone help!!! How do I log in and repair filevault?

To eject the disc - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50991
Once you eject the disc, gently clean it before reinserting it. Some dvd drives are very fussy about the media.

  • Cannot login after installing 10.6.1 Update

    Hello everybody,
    i installed the 10.6.1 Update from Software-Update.
After rebooting, i entered my password and then...
nothing happens. It seems that i am logged in successfully,
but nothing load up, i can still move my mouse, but the only
thing i see, is the standart SL wallpaper.
    what i tried:
    - repair permissions, etc. (booted from DVD)
    - cleared caches
    - created a completely new useraccount, but the same problem
    - starting in safe boot mode (works perfectly)
Has anyone an idea, what this problem could be and how
    I can solve it?
Thank you all for your help in advance
    Best regards
    Ben

i created the new account in system-preferences with my normal account(admin)
    in safe-boot mode.
i reinsatalled the Update, nothing changed...
very strange: I reinstalled Snow Loepard over the existing SL installation, and the problem still exists.
So i think, it's a problem in my homedirectory?
But why exists the problem at a new account?
    Don't understand this...
Perhaps the easiest way is to save my private data and do a complete
    new install...

  • Can't login after installing Leopard

I just installed 10.5 onto an intel Mac Mini from the DVD. Everything went smooth until i restarted. the only user is now "other". It is asking me to login and no username or password is working. I followed the help I found on the site and reset the password with the reset password utility on the desk - still nothing. I have tried lots of different combinations including "System Administrator (root)" name (in many different combinations!). Nothing is working yet.

what kind of install did you do? an upgrade and install, an archive and install or an erase and install?
what help did you follow? what exactly did you do? if it's showing "other" at the login screen it must mean you activated root password from the install DVD, is that right? when you try to log in as root you need to enter "root" (no quotes) as the user name, not "System administrator(root)".

  • After installing Leopard I cannot connect onto company server

After installing Leopard I am unable to connect to our company server. I was able to see the server when I was on tiger. I tried to connect the server manually but it seems I can't even do that. What to do next ? Server connects both PCs and Mac in the office.
I went into finder preference and click connect to server. I don't see any of our three servers that I saw on tiger. Not sure what to do next.
    I get the message
The server does not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.

I wish I was writing with an answer, but all I can really offer is that "I feel your pain". In my case, after upgrading to Leopard, I can see many, but nowhere near all, computers on our network, and there's no obvious explanation for who appears and who doesn't. Worse, I can see the one I most need to see (my administrative assistant) but there is no option to file share through drop boxes or any other mechanism we've found (despite enabling those options in preferences) and the only option listed is to "share screen" -- which is interesting since my assistant's computer is running Tiger, and selecting it on my end fails every time!
What gives!?! It's tough being the local mac evangelical when s**t like this goes down!

  • Failure: Cannot login after Lion 10.7.2 update

I cannot login after performming the update realeased today.
After boot, at the login screen, I see the user in the circles. Upon selecting a user, entering the password, the spinning circle below the Apple appears. It spins for a few mnutes, then return with a NOT symbol as the spinner contues to spin endlessly. After a while, the fan kicks into overdrive.
I tried to do the boot in recovery, start terminal, resetpassword, restart, login as root steps, but do not see an option to login as root upong restart - just the User circle icon.

I have a similar problem, but it looks like I have solved it.
I rebooted holding down ommand-R to get to the recovery-HD mode.  From there I chose the options to re-install Lyon (requires internett access because it downloads a new copy).
Since I have multiple disks attached (the internal and a bootable backup drive) it asked which disk I wanted to use.  When I chose the internal drive it told me it was locked and asked for the FileVault unlock code.  After that things seemed to proceed properly.
I suspect that the problem is in some way tied to my use of FileVault.

  • Finder not working after installing Leopard!!!

    Hi everyone.
I'm getting a strange Finder behavior on my Intel iMac (not the newest version) after installing Leopard. The thing is, after instalation, when I start the computer, the top bar on the screen starts blinking, and there's no way to open a Finder window. And it stays like that forever! I tried to open Finder from the Dock, but the blue dot of the active programs blinks 3 or 4 times and then disapears. Plus, the only way to access the Apple logo on the corner to switch the computer off or restart it, is by opening one other program from the dock (in this case I have Safari running), because this way the top bar stops blinking.
So, I thought I should try to update Leopard to 10.5.1, and this could solve the problem. But no. It searches for new software updates, tells me that there are new updates, but I cannot see them nor install them!
This is really weird and annoying!
Anyone had this problem? Please, help me.
P.S.: Yes, I've tryed a second install of Leopard. Same thing!

Do NOT install any updates until you resolve the problem, which is unrelated to any updates. Updating a computer that is not working correctly will only make the problems worse, never better.
If this is the second install, was it on an erased HD or did you import your previous programs, etc?
It sounds like you might have some errant 3rd party software running.
Did you run a disk check and file permission verify/repair before installing?
Check your startup program window and remove everything there. Write them down so you can put them back later.

  • Logging out behaviour after installing leopard

I believe that before I installed the Leopard upgrade when I would log out of one account on my machine and nothing was running, the system would just log off the account without prompting me and return the to the login screen.
After installing Leopard it seems to me that whether or not something is running the OS prompts me if I want to close all applications and continue logging out.
Is this a new behaviour of Leopard or is there something running in the background that I don't know about?
    thanks

To be honest, I can't be completely certain how things were in Tiger since I have always used ⌥⇧⌘Q to log out immediately (assuming there aren't any unsaved changes), but the existence of both options suggests to me that the dialogue was always there. Maybe the wording was different, but I don't think the behaviour has changed...

  • Problems connecting to internet after installing Leopard

I have been having problems connecting to the internet after installing Leopard. I have a G5 at my office and use safari and AOL, using a cable modem and router. Everything worked perfect until I installed Leopard. About 3 days after installing Leopard on my G5 I started having problems connecting to the internet. When opening "network" in preferences it tells me I am connected, but I cannot connect. So I have to restart my computer every time in order to connect. Then to top it off, often in the middle of the day I am able to get and send e-mail with AOL, but my Safari does not connect. And even more bizare, if I am connected and sign off my AOL, I lose Safari as well. Brought the G5 into the Mac store and after trying some stuff they told me "it should work now" but ....same problems. So last Monday, I installed Leopard on my Macbookpro which I use at home wirelessly, everything worked well until yesterday when the same issue with my G5 is happening with the macbookpro. No connection, it tells me I am connected, signal is strong, but nothing.....so restart and keep going. What is going on? Anyone else having same problem? Any solutions
    Roberto

    Roberto,
Is the install of Leopard on the G5 and MacBook Pro an upgrade install or a clean install?
Try some simple maintenance to see if this resolves it:
    1. Run Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility)
    2. Go to Network Utility and go to Ping enter in www.cnn.com and see if the packets are received/sent. This is just to see if you can get to the outside so to speak
    3. See if your cable modem manfacturer has a leopard upgrade. Sometimes hardware companies need to upgrade their firmware when new Operating systems come out

  • Can't login after installing Oracle 10g on XP Service Pack 1

Hi, I am completely new to using oracle and cannot login after completing the install process. I followed the article:
    http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/oracle/115320/3
in order to install and unlock the relevant accounts (such as "SCOTT"). But I keep getting the following error message when attempting to login (at both the "http://myservername/em" and "http://myservername/isqlplus" urls):
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
After a few of those errors I also get an understandable "account locked" error message.
Can anyone suggest fields for "username", "password" and "contact identifier" that might enable me to login?! And why can't I use the "Global Database Name" and password that I supplied during the installation process?
oh, and does it make a difference that I'm using "Parallels Desktop" to run windows from my mac?
Thanks very much for any help, because I really need to get this running quickly!

Open SQL*Plus ... all learning of Oracle should start at the SQL*Plus command line.
Assuming you are logged in to the operating system as the same user that installed the Oracle software on SQL*Plus in the Start -> Programs menu.
Under username type "/ as sysdba" without the double-quotes and leave the other two dialog box fields empty.
    Now enter:
    SQL> alter user scott account unlock identified by tiger;
SQL conn scott/tigerIf this works you need to proceed by getting a beginning Oracle book. The one's offered by Oracle Press are among the best for your level or preferably find a class personal mentor in your area.

But XP SP1? Why? SP2 is the minimum for a system with some level of security.
In the future always post a complete version number (3 decimal places) as well as, as you did, complete error messages. That will help you get good answers.

  • Only showing wallpaper after installing Leopard

After installing leopard, I log in and I see my hard drive and applications for about 5 seconds and then everything disappears. I hooked it up to another Mac with firewire and checked to see if ApplicationEnhancer.bundle was there and it isn't. The other login on my computer works. Please help!

So, you're implying that the other account is not an admin account, but not saying. Then, I'm unsure if this will work. Anyway, log into the good, nonadmin account, select System Preferences->Accounts->click on the lock, enter the admin username/password combo if an authentication window pops up. If that works, then create a new admin user account with a unique username/password combo, click on the lock, and log out and into the new account. If that works, report back.

  • Mistakenly canceled import of old mail after installing Leopard

The first time I opened Mail after installing Leopard, it began automatically populating with my old emails. I mistakenly hit cancel and now cannot figure out how to continue the process or find the old emails. I only see new mail and mailboxes in home/library/mail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I agree that this could be the issue. But the problem is, Mail will not let me do anything about it. It gives me the dialog over and over because it is trying to do some background IMAP task (that it is unable to do) but does not stop trying to do it long enough for me to, say go into the preferences to change my account settings.
I can access the IMAP account from my web mail so this issue is something corrupted in Mail that it thinks it should be able to access but can't. If you catch my meaning.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • After installing Leopard, my G4 will no longer boot in OS 9.22. (Classic still works, but I need it to boot in OS 9.)  Any clues about what the Leopard installer might have done to my machine that rendered OS 9 boot unusable? What can I do to fix it?

After installing Leopard, my G4 will no longer boot in OS 9.22.
(Classic still works, but I need it to boot in OS 9.)
Any clues about what the Leopard installer might have done to my machine that rendered OS 9 boot unusable? (And what can I do to fix it?)
    Details:
    G4 Gigabit Ethernet
    Boot ROM version: 4.2.8fl
    Accelerator card added: 1.6 MHz
    1.5 Gig Ram
I have erased the partition that had Leopard installed on it.
    I zapped the pram.
In Open Firmware, I "reset-nvram", and then "reset-all"
I tried to reinstall G4 FW Update 4.2.8, but that must be done when booted from OS 9, and of course, that's the problem: it won't boot into 9.
I tried restarting from 9.2.1 DVD.
I tried restarting from an external firewire drive containing OS 9.2.2.
I tried moving a fresh OS 9.2.2 system folder into an empty partition on an internal hard drive. (Partition was created WITH OS 9 drivers installed.)
All attempts to boot into OS 9 give me the same results - grey screen - no spinning beach ball, no icons or logos - just a blank grey screen.
This machine still works fine in OS 10.3 and 10.4, and it worked fine for many years booting into OS 9, until I installed Leopard, and I haven't been able to boot into OS 9 since then, although I have done considerable research online and tried many things.
I have since learned that this machine does not support Leopard - 10.5. Fine, but how did it break 9.2.2?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for checking in, BDAQua.
    Problem solved.
In the docs that came with my Powerlogix accelerator card, I found this sentence buried:
"If you reset the PRAM, the NVRAM code for OS9 compatibility is cleared, so you will have to boot from the Firmawre Update CD and perform this process again in order to boot in OS9."
The "process" it's referring to is the process of setting up the NVRAM for booting into OS9 from the CD.
Fortunately, I was able to find the disk, and it worked as expected. I can now, once again boot into OS9.
Conclusion: My (unadvised) attempt to load Leopard on this old machine apparently reset the PRAM on the accelerator card and cleared the NVRAM code for OS9 boot. Although I did attempt to reset the NVRAM via Open Firmware, it did not reset it on the accelerator card.
So, thank you BDAQua, for your "Ah yes" . . . that's all I needed to steer me in the right direction.
    Gratefully,
    tupester

  • My external drive went dead after installing Leopard

    Hey guys
I'm very bummed out, my external HD went dead after installing Leopard on my Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5. It was working perfectly fine before, had not a single problem with it but now, I've just lost all my work. I tried Disk Utility from the disc with no luck, it gave tons of errors and it say it couldn't be repaired. Now, it doesn't show up at all. Every single time I connect it I get a message saying the disk I inserted is not readable by the computer. This is a 200GB Maxtor external drive. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Any hardcore Software to retrieve my files? I'd appreciate if anyone can help me with this.
    Thank you in advance

Movies are currently a one time download. Because of this, it is your responsibility to back them up so when something like this happens, you can simply copy them over the new drive.
You can't download them again with purchasing once again.

  • ITunes keeps unexpectedly quitting after installing Leopard

After installing Leopard, iTunes keeps unexpectedly quitting? I've tried recreating the iTunes library with no help.

i had the same problem. finally i found out what was going wrong. it was the digi core audio extension that messed up my itunes. so if you are using pro-tools you should have a look into this possibility.
if not you might want to try and remove any non-apple audio extension and see what happens. don't trash them as you might be able to pin point the problem to only one extension.
