Cannot login with Active Directory Account

Hello,
I am testing SnowLeopard (10.6.1) for deployment in my labs for the Spring 2010 semester. We use local home directories. This is a brand new fresh install of SL, on a freshly formatted Hard Drive.
When bound to Active Directory I can get any AD account that I've tested (5 different accounts) to authenticate except one, which happens to be my own personal AD account.
The secure.log shows these entries when I attempt to login:
Oct 9 14:18:29 mac-0017f20fc40 SecurityAgent[209]: User info context values set for ctarbox
Oct 9 14:18:29 mac-0017f20fc40 authorizationhost[208]: Failed to authenticate user <ctarbox> (tDirStatus: -14090).
Considering that I could log in with other accounts, and after resetting my AD password then still not being able to authenticate, I came to the conclusion that I had a corrupt OU in Active Directory.
I contacted one of our AD admins and had him delete both of my AD accounts: ctarbox and ctarbox1 then recreate both accounts. I still cannot login to AD with my ctarbox account.
I can still login to my current lab machines anywhere on campus running 10.5.8 with ctarbox.
I am baffled by this. I have been authenticating to Active Directory since 10.1 and have never seen anything like this.
Any idea, anyone?

I have found the solution to my problem. I have accounts in two different domains in our AD tree. I'll called these domains Domain A and Domain B.
Domain A is the primary domain for authentication to our public computing labs.
Domain B is a secondary domain for authentication to shared resources for faculty/staff.
Both accounts have the same user ID, but different passwords. In my Directory Utility>Advanced>Administrative window I have the option "Allow authentication from any domain in the forest' checked.
With this option checked Directory Utility in 10.6.1 will allow me to authenticate Domain B, but not Domain A.
With this option checked in Directory Utility in 10.5.8 just the opposite is taking place, I can authenticate to Domain A, but not Domain B.
It seems that somewhere in the upgrade to 10.6.1 the search policy for Active Directory has changed. My workaround is to uncheck this option and specifically choose Domain A in the search policy.

  • Cannot login using Active Directory credentials

We are experimenting with macs at our company.  We bought a mac pro which is running 10.8.2.  I am able to join active directory but cannot log in with any user account.  I have tried logging in as myself and some test accounts.  I have read some other forums to get some ideas but none have worked so far.  I have tried to rejoin the mac to AD, check and uncheck different things under advanced options with no luck.  These include Create mobile account at login, force local home directory on startup disk, force unc path from active directory to derive network home location, etc.  I have confirmed the mac has a valid ip address with the correct dns settings.  I can see users from the directory editor so I know there is some sort of communication with the domain.  I am wondering if there is something small that I am missing.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

have you set pam.conf ok? have you tested kinit to make sure you can get a ticket?

  • Setting up Wiki Calendars in iCal with Active Directory Accounts

I'm Having a little trouble wrapping my head around our Wiki Calendar Solution,
Id like to find a way to get the 10.6 Wiki Server Calendar's in iCal Client - using our active directory authentication.
I have a test 10.6 Server bound to our Active Directory with Wiki's up and running and am able to log in with AD account's and view and manage the Wiki Calendar - I can see how to subscribe to the calendar's - But I need full integration with iCal and maybe even Outlook - subscribing only provides read access.
anyone have any idea how his can be accomplished in and active directory setting - my searches have lead me to OD solutions and thats not going to work.

I don't know how much I'll be able to help, but I do have AD accounts using wiki services. Can you verify a few things:
    1. The AD group is listed in the "Wiki Creators" box in Server Admin, yes?
    2. If you open Terminal and run "sudo serveradmin settings teams:enableClearTextAuth", does it return "teams:enableClearTextAuth = yes"?
    3. If you open System Preferences -> Accounts and then edit the directory servers, does the AD domain show as working normally?
Also, have you worked to isolate the problem? Have you tried creating an OD user to test against the wiki? Are the logs showing anything?

  • Cannot login with my Skype Account name,

I have tried to login to Skype and the following error returns:
"Sorry, we didn't recognize you sign-in details. Please check etc. etc."
My account does exist as I have asked my friends if they can see it.  Why has this happened?  I have searched the Skype so-called knowledge base and cannot find an answer.  Does Skype disable accounts if inactive for any period of time?
    Any help is appreciated,

    Hi,
I installed ApacheDS and configured Weblogic. Weblogic can import the LDAP users and groups. And I can use LDAP account to sign in Weblogic Console and EM. But BIEE always prompt "An invalid User Name or Password was entered", even though I added the LDAP account to BIAdministrator role.

Refer to this blogpost to make sure you have followed all the steps correctly: http://www.addidici.com/blog/?p=8
You need to add the account from LDAP to BISystem Application role.

  • Unable to login with an Active Directory account on 10.6.7

I just got a Mac Airbook and I'm trying to connect with my AD account. I was able to bind my computer to the domain succesfully but when I try and logon with my AD account I get the shakes. I verified my binding with the green light next to "Network Account Server". I asked some admins who have older macs and they guided me through the settings but it still doesn't work for me. The only thing that shows up in the logs when I attempt to login is "Active Directory could not find GUID for DOMAIN\domain to update admin group". And yes, my local user is different than my AD user.
    Any ideas?

Not for me. Some things mount others do not. Plus you can't use links from e-mails or save to from applications. It makes most applications completely unuse-able for me. It looks like I'm going to have to run almost everything over Parallels. Kind of of lame that Mac can't get this fixed.

  • Getting Mobile Accounts to work with Active Directory

Just curious to see if anyone got this to work. I am running OSX server version 10.4.4. I binded the server via directory access to our Active Directory Domain. I could see the active directory accounts in Workgroup manager and was able to get client Mac systems to log in using their AD account info. When I tried to set up the accounts as mobile accounts I ran into probelms. When you enter your login info on the client end, the screen would just go to a blnak blue desktop and not get any further. Anyone have any luck getting their AD accounts set up on the client Macs running as mobile directories?

Heh. Yeah, and tried switching it on and off a few times, too.
I think I might have found the problem, but I think I might have also borked my ability to play with it tonight -- in the Advanced Rules section in the firewall settings, there were a bunch of "deny" rules in there that weren't enabled... I guessed that those needed to be turned on, so that it would deny everything by default, but then allow the stuff I want through (set on the other page).
Except after enabling those, I now can't connect to the server with ARD any more. Oops.
The good news is that at least I also can't mount AFP shares from here any more either.
The bad news is that when logging into the MacBook now, with my mobile account, it still starts up the Home Sync process on login (after spending about 35 seconds doing nothing after entering the password), and then hangs there for about 2 minutes trying to contact the sync server before giving up and continuing with the login properly -- this is what I was hoping to avoid.

  • Can't log in to Profile Manager or My Devices with Active Directory logins

I have an OSX Lion 10.7.4 Server set up with Profile Manager and it is joined to AD.
I am able to see AD groups in the Profile Manager groups section.
I can also see and add AD users and groups using the server app.
I have enabled the "Can Enable Remote Management" check box for Domain Users through Profile Manager. I have also added Domain Admins to the Workgroup group in the Server app. I'm not sure that I want or need either of these options, but they were suggestions to try.
I am not able to log on to the Profile Manager or My Devices pages with AD logins.
I found these directions about nested groups in Workgroup Manager http://krypted.com/iphone/integrating-mac-os-x-lion-servers-profile-manager-with -active-directory/ but I don't have a com.apple.access_devicemanagement local group or any groups like are shown in the picture.
    Any ideas what I'm missing?
    Cheers,
    Ian

I found the two pieces I was missing:
    1) Install the Lion Server Admin Tools
    Launch the Server Admin App
Click on the server name in the left pane
Click on the Access button in the upper part of the window
    Click on Profile Manager
Either manually add specific groups to the list or if you're feeling brave choose the "Allow all users and groups" radio button
    2) Run the command line steps on this page to change the authentication to plain text to support AD authentication:

    Voila!

  • 'Public' Active Directory account no longer works w/Tiger?

We have approx 20 public Macs that all log onto our Windows 2003 server using the same Active Directory account - 'Public'
This has worked fine until Tiger - Now when we attempt to log onto one of our network drives with this account name I'm told by a pop-up window that the account is either disabled or I've put the password in incorrectly.
Can anyone confirm if 'Public' cannot be used by a user on Tiger? Is it exclusively for the OS?

Ran accross this in help file...
"Mac OS X 10.3 or later: "Invalid user name and password combination" Message When Using Active Directory
When binding a Mac OS X client computer to Active Directory, the account entered is not validated (resolved) at that time. It is used as entered. If entered incorrectly, you will see an alert message later.
    Symptom
After configuring the Active Directory Directory Access plug-in, an alert message appears at the client computer that says "invalid user name and password combination."
    Products affected
Mac OS X 10.3 or later
    Solution
This happens when an incorrect name and/or password is entered, including a username entered with incorrect syntax.
The user's login name (also known as "PrincipalName") is required when binding a computer to Active Directory.
The user can also use the short part of the login name (such as "virginia"). The typical syntax of a login name is similar to "[email protected]".
Note: If the user's login name has been modified from the default "[email protected]", then the default login name must be used. The modified login name (such as "[email protected]") cannot be used."

  • Problems with Active Directory and Windows 2003

    Hello,
I'm using Mac OS X Server 10.4.9 with Active Directory bound to a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain. I can bind successfully to the domain using the graphical interface. Then in Samba I can access shared directories using Windows users. However, after some time somehow there are problems and Windows users aren't authenticated anymore on the Mac. I've looked at the firewall and there are no denied packets from the Mac. There are two servers in the domain, all clocks are synchronized and domain information is up to date. When I unbind the Mac, I can see the machine account being deleted on both domain servers and created too on both machines when I bind to the domain.
Problems occur when I try login in using ssh or samba do I think this is a problem with the AD module.
I turned on debugging messages on DirectoryServices:
    sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
When in Windows, using the Administrator user I try:
    net use \\10.0.0.1 /user:domain\Administrator
    Where 10.0.0.1 is the Mac.
In the Mac I get from
    tail -f /Library/Logs/DirectoryService/DirectoryService.debug.log |grep ADPlug

I really don't know what to do. The Windows Event log shows no messages. The link used to work and there have been no changes in the domain servers.
The key line seems to be:
2007-06-27 10:48:43 CDT - ADPlugin: Failed getting credentials at line 2687 in ADSEngine.mm
But I don't know what that ADSEngine.mm is.

    Hello.
    Thanks for your reply.
I tried the net use with a drive letter with and without the /user switch. When I use a domain user domain\user1 I can't connect. When I use a user local to the XServe it works.
    When I use
    net use x: \\10.0.0.1\share /user:domain\user1
I get prompted for a password, but it doesn't work.
I checked the firewall and all packets to or from the mac are accepted, no denied or dropped packages.
I already went through the MS document on fw ports. Before I opened to Kerberos ports the binding failed. No the binding work OK.
Some users who were authenticated yesterday still can access files using the Windows domain accounts. It's new users trying to connect those who have problems.
This is what the Samba log.smbd log shows:

  • Issue with Active Directory User Target Recon

    Hi ,
I am facing an issue with Active Directory User Target Recon
My environment is OIM 11g R2 with BP03 patch applied
AD Connector is activedirectory-11.1.1.5 with bundle patch 14190610 applied
In my Target there are around 28000 users out of which 14000 have AD account (includes Provisioned,Revoked,Disabled accounts)
When i am running Active Directory User Target Recon i am not putting any filter cleared the batch start and batch size parameters and ran the recon job .Job ran successfully but it stopped after processing around 3000 users only.
Retried the job two three times but every time it is stopping after processing some users but not processing all the users.
Checked the log file oimdiagnostic logs and Connector server logs cannot see any errors in it.
Checked the user profile of users processed can see AD account provisioned for users
My query is why this job is not processing allthe users. Please point if i am missing some thing .
    thanks in advance

Check the connector server load when you are running the recon. Last time I checked the connector, the way it was written is that it loads all the users from AD into the connector server memory and then sends them to OIM. So if the number was huge, then the connector server errored out and did not send data to OIM. We then did recon based on OUs to load/link all the users into OIM. Check the connector server system logs and check for memory usage etc.

  • Active Directory account lockout from OS X Server

I'm looking for assistance in tracking down why our 10.9 Mac server is constantly trying to use my Active Directory account. I changed my password a week ago and have been getting locked out constantly, and it appears the lockouts are coming from invalid password attempts from this OS X server. However, I don't know why the server would be using my AD credentials since I login to the Mac with an admin account and not my own. The only thing I can think of that may have used my AD credentials is connecting to a network file share at some point in the past, but I wouldn't have saved the credentials and it shouldn't be auto-mapping the share. The Mac itself is bound to Active Directory too.
I checked the Login Items and there is nothing there. I also reset the keychain to defaults and that didn't help. Does anyone else have any ideas for me to try to narrow down what the OS X server may be trying to use my credentials for?

So I'm going to guess I'm the only one that's ever had this issue...
Further digging with Wireshark shows that the OS X server is indeed issuing bind requests using my old AD account credentials multiple times per minute. I tried unbinding and rebinding, but that didn't help. The requests also start right away after a reboot, so whatever is using my credentials is doing so prior to any user logins on the server. Now I'm trying to track down what is actually issuing these requests on the server
In a span of a few seconds the machine issues three bind requests. The first is
    bindRequest (1) "[email protected]" simple
    Followed by
    bindRequest (1) "<ROOT>" sasl
    then
    bindRequest (2) "<ROOT>" sasl
Anyone have an idea for me as to how to track down where my user account comes into play? It wasn't used to bind the machine to AD, I didn't see it anywhere in the keychain, and I only have a few apps running on the server, none of which use AD authentication or would request binding.

  • Can't login to open directory accounts unless using server machine

I cannot login to any network accounts from my macbook on my local network i have tried bindind the machine to the open directory with local ip, local address and domain and all appear to be working but i cant login to any of the accounts although the passwords are correct.

    Hi Salda,
I'm currently experiencing a similar problem to yours.
My situation is that I have just created a new user account which is part of our media users group.
This group is in the list of allowed users for our mac pro client host, but when I attempt to login using their credentials I get the same error you had, namely that their home directory is located on a afp or smb server (which is of course the case).
I hope you can tell me a resolution that doesn't require a re-installation of the OS.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Logon problem with Active Directory

I maintain iMacs and Mac Pros connected to a Windows campus network using a combination of Mac OS X's Active Directory utility and DAVE, a Windows file and print sharing software from Thursby Software. I have found that a handful of users cannot connect to the network. They can log on, but they get the default screen and the sparse default Dock. The campus network services are not available to them.
I have found on studying the issue is that their active directory accounts of aliases in lower-case letters; in contrast, the vast majority have aliases in upper-case letters. Evidently, users with upper-case aliases in their Active Directory accounts can enjoy full network access, whereas those with lower-case aliases do not.
Is there an underlying issue here that keeps users with lower-case aliases from accessing both Apple and network resources, or should I look elsewhere for the cause?

There are several folders in the User Template on Leopard. One, English.lproj, is what I use to store the user template settings. There are also two others, user.template and non-localized.
user.template is a truly root-level folder which is inaccessible from the Aqua visual interface; when unlocked its icon turns into a folder. In terminal mode, logged on as root, I found a basic set of folders. I decided to leave those alone.
non-localized appears to be the same thing as English.lproj; it certainly has the same set of user folders. I decided to copy the folders and settings I made for English.lproj into non-localized. I invited another person with the lower-case alias problem to log on. He got the entire configuration, wallpaper, Dock and all. I confirmed this with the same person I had test the log on yesterday. He too got the whole config.
So it is evident that Leopard was using information from LDAP/AD to determine which template to download. The majority with the upper-case aliases gets the configuration from the English.lproj folder; the lower-case-alias minority get the non-localized configuration, i.e., nothing at all. Knowing this, I can now prepare our iMacs to accommodate everyone.
