Cannot logon to OWA and ECP

Hi,
I have a frustrating issue on EXCH 2013 SP1 CU7. Outlook clients work fine but logging onto OWA or ECP does not. When trying to logon to OWA we get infinite "still working on it" , ECP just blinks and we get logon screeen again. We cannot
logon - independently on browser used. Problem is that there are NO errors in application nor in system log. We had also checked the IIS logs, and again, no errors(mostly OK 200 messages from clients connecting from outlook)
Got this problem before CU7, hoping the update will resolve it but its the same. Tried to recreate OWA nad ECP virtual directories multiple times but no change. Everything is in default dirs.
Exchange connectivity test, autodiscover is OK.
Also have to point out that Frontend and Backend are using valid certificates(cert with public name for front end and selfsigned for backend)
Auth for Backend (OWA and ECP) are anon and integrated(when i disable anaon, nothing changes), for Frontend - Basic for OWA and ECP is enabled - i.e. its in default state
It worked till about 3 weeks ago...
Can you help, please? Should I reinstall Exchange or its some bug? Thanks.
sfs

Hi fandango71,
Thank you for your question.
Did the issue occur all users?
Did you use different browser to check if the issue persist?
Is there former version Exchange server existed in organization?
We could enable Windows Authentication on OWA and restart IIS to check if the issue persist.
We suggest you post snapshot when you logon OWA for our troubleshooting.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
Best Regard,
Jim

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 -OWA and ECP login authentication

Coexisting with Exchange 2007 in the same Org.
Just been through a nightmare where I changed the authentication type from Basic and Forms to Windows Integrated Authentication through the EAC for OWA and ECP. It broke them completely. Three hours later after rebuilding the two virtual directories I have
    it working.
So I learnt about the backend process for both ECP and OWA and realised I have to have the authentication types the same in front and back end.
    1. Is there a way to set authentication for both components at the same time? (that's a stoopid design)
    2. So now I have integrated authentication- but I cannot login as someone else unless of course I login to windows as that other person. Which authentication do I need to add  to allow prompting ifor other credentials (or is this not possible)?
    3. Set-ECPvirtualdirectory can set the backend but get-ecpvirtualdirectory can not. It was really difficult to see the two sections had different authentication settings. Is there a way to see them?

I would recommend Basic Authentication and set Group Policy to add Exchange URLs to Trusted sites and modify IE settings to "Automatic login using current username/password" option for trusted settings.
This way Single-Signon would work for domain joined systems and Basic authentication would prompt for any unsuccessful logins
However, from the best practices perspective, I would recommend Form based authentication, unless there are business reasons for not doing it this way.

  • Exchange 2013: how to set up multiple domain for OWA and ECP

    Exchange 2013 on Windows 2012R2
Currently we have set this up using the guide below:
    http://mouzzamh.wordpress.com/2013/02/04/accessing-owa-from-multiple-domain-url/
We can access OWA and ECP using the internal IP address/owa or ECP but when we use the URL it fails.
We gave it an external IP address as well just to check if it will externally since the external DNS are pointing to the correct records: same issue it only works on IP address/owa or /ecp
We were able to follow the guide from start to finish including the certs..
The only difference on the guide and our exchange IIS environment for the new website is when he mentioned "Under IIS Settings / ISAPI and CGI Restrictions" we only have "ISAPI filters"...." ISAPI and CGI Restrictions" is only
applicable to the default and backend website..
Also, when the guide points to the path, should it be the new website path?
Or maybe to avoid confusion, can anyone guide me on how to do it or any other guide that helped you if ever you had the same issue as mine?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Please run the following to check your OWA virtual directories for all web sites:
    Get-OWAVirtualDirectory | FL Identity,*URL*,path
Personal suggestion, please consider to deploy another new CAS server. Then we can configure different OWA URLs in different servers. And pointed mail.domain.com and webmail.domain.com to two CAS servers respectively.

  • OWA and ActiveSync certificate based authentication

I have Exchange 2013 CU3 installed and want to activate the certificate based authentication for ActiveSync and OWA. But I want to have the login without certificate as well for users without a certificate.
I already found some information how to do that on Exchange 2010 and I already did all steps to activate it.
But at one point I cant find anything to configure in Exchange 2013. So I have activated the AD certificate based authentication in ISS and configured the OWA folder in IIS to accept client certificates. This seems to work as I get asked to use the certificate
when I open the OWA page. But then I am landing on the OWA login page where I have to enter username and password.
So it seems that I am missing something. In the tutorials for Exchange 2010 they activate the certificate based authentication in the Management console. But I cant find anything in ECP to activate.
    Can anyone help me?

    Hi,
We can create an additional Web Site in IIS to configure additional OWA and ECP virtual directory for external access. And configuring the Default Web Site for internal access.
Then we can configure internal one with Integrated Windows authentication and Basic authentication while the external one configured for forms-based authentication of Domain\user name format. For more information about
Configuring Multiple OWA/ECP Virtual Directories, we can refer to:

  • Outlook Cannot Logon Error - Exchange 2013

    Hi all,
I simply cannot create an Outlook (2007 or 2010) account to connect to my new installation of Exchange 2013 in Windows Server Essentials environment:
    1) Using autodiscover:
I get green ticks for "Establishing network connection and "Search for [email protected] server
settings". At "Log on to Server" I get the error message "The action cannot be completed.  The connection to
    Microsoft Exchange
is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"
    2) Using manual configuration:
Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) Exchange Proxy settings configured using the internal FQDN for the Exchange
server and negotiate for authentication.  Clicking "check name" button to resolve servername (internal FQDN) and
username (user email address) gives error, "Outlook cannot logon.  Verify you are connected to the network and are
using the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be
online or available to complete this action.
    3) I can ping Exchange server using hostname and FQDN
    4) PC is member of the domain
    4) I have verified Exchange certiicate is installed on the client PC (although in the "Other People" certificates folder. Makes no difference when moved to the Trusted Root Certification Authority folder.
    5) I can successfully connect to the user mailboxes via OWA
I've been working to resolve this issue for several days now and am at a complete loss as to what to do next to get this up and running.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi RS,
Did you try to run Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) only for Outlook and check the results? If not, proceed and run the Tool and post the results.
Additional info how to run the tool and check the results, you can find here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/catastrophic_failure_joannav/archive/2013/10/30/how-to-view-offcat-report-that-was-created-on-another-computer.aspx

  • OWA and Outlook

My OWA account will not connect to outlook... when I try to add an account to Outlook, it prompts me to enter name, email and password, after I do it, it says cannot connect to the server

    Hi BradyRob,
According to the description, I know that you cannot logon Outlook with your account which works well in OWA.
How is the impact, one user or all users, internally or externally?
     1. If you are an end user, I suggest double check following configurations on Outlook client:
Outlook -> File -> Account Settings.. -> select your account -> Change -> More Settings.. -> Connection -> check “Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP”  -> Exchange Proxy Settings.. -> input CAS server
URL in “Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange:” -> check both “On fast networks..” and “On slow networks..” -> select “NTLM Authentication”
     2. If you are Administrator:
        1) Firstly, I suggest check whether the account has been disabled to use Outlook, as DJ Grijalva suggested.
        2) Then , please run “Test E-mail AutoConfiguration” on Outlook with the account to check whether there is anything abnormal on AutoDiscover.
        3) Any detailed error message will be helpful for the further troubleshooting.
    Thanks

  • Outlook 2010 and 2013 are unable to connect but OWA (and mail routing) works fine

    Hi-
Not sure why but this past Sunday (just after DST adjustment) outlook clients (using 2010 and 2013) were unable to connect to an Exchange 2013 server.  OWA and mail routing (internal and external) is working fine.  I've even tried on multiple machines
and all of them experience the same issue.  On a new machine with a fresh version of outlook 2013 installed here is what happens:
    Click on Outlook 2013
Click Next until the account setup is displayed.
    Name and email is auto-populated
    Established network connection is good
Searching for email address settings is good (once the self-signed exchange 2013 cert is accepted)
And then the logging onto the mail server fails.  The first pop-up is:
The Connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable.  Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
Clicking "OK" is followed up with a window with the Microsoft Exchange connection info.
It lists Microsoft Exchange server which is populated with: GUID@<domain suffix>
Mailbox which is populated with: =SMTP:<Valid Email address>
On the Exchange Server I have noticed that the Web Management Service (WMSVC) is stopped and will not start.  Starting the service outputs:
    EventID 7024
"The Web Management Service terminated with the following service-specific error:  Unspecified error"
    Not really helpful :)
Since this is only happening with Outlook on multiple clients I'm expecting something with Exchange or the ability for outlook to connect to exchange.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
I know this is an old post, but I'm having a very similar issue. I have CU6 installed and all other client connectivity apart from internal Outlook connectivity is working fine. I have distributed the new Self-Signed Certificate and the tested to verify
the clients trust it. I have tried on multiple machine with multiple accounts and none of them connect.
    I'm at the stage of reinstalling, but I would rather troubleshoot the problem, just in case ever hit the same wall in the future. I have run Test-OutlookConnectivity with the following output;

  • VMware - I cannot logon to Windows 7 after upgrade to Yosemite

After upgrading to Yosemite, I cannot logon to Windows under VMware Fusion 7.0.  It was working fine prior to the upgrade. The message I get when logging onto Window is,
"The User Profile Service service failed the logon.
The User profile cannot be loaded."
I'm running on a Mac Pro Mid 2010 and Yosemite itself is otherwise working fine.  VMware was not running during the upgrade and re-start of the Mac.  I'm stuck and need to get this resolved any help is appreciated.

I found the solution, I would have found it much earlier but just too tired and stressed from the week I guess
Anyway it is NOT a Yosemite or even VMware issue, it figures it's just a good old Windows issue that dates back to at least 2010, why am I not surprised.   Probably as Windows was booting up and giving me the logon it was running anti-virus in the background and the user profile was corrupted, which means that Windows as usual was also not displaying a precise error message, just one that was close enough for Microsoft work.
The solution is easy especially if you can handle booting to Safe Mode and using Regedit, easier still if you have two user profiles in Windows even if one is just a duplicate of emergency uses, say like this.  The details can be found here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
I was up and running within two minutes.  Whew.

  • Cannot logon to my console ?

When I logon to my SUN One Server Console,it said:CANNOT LOGON BEACASE OF AN INCORRECT uSER id,INCORRECT PASSWORD or Directory problem.
but I have logon to it yesterday.
    How to do ?

    Hello,
I have a similar problem except it was as a consequence of changing the hostname and ip address(could not be helped). I have changed practically all the configuration and xml files that are relavent to reflect the new hostname and ip address( local.conf, adm.conf, server.xml, ldap.conf, ds.conf and dbswitch.conf ...) and I'm still getting the error:
"Cannot logon because of an incorrect User ID, incorrect password or Directory problem.
    HttpException:
    Response:HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error
    Status: 500
    URL: http://server:12166/admin-serv/authenticate"
Question: in the file admin.conf, does anyone know if the entry that follows is tied to the server name or the application name? line 3: "cn=admin-serv-servername," I'm not sure if the portion where it has the server name should actually be the newserver name.
    SIE: cn=admin-serv-servername, cn=Administration Server, cn=Server Group, cn=servername.mydomain.com, ou=mydomain.com, o=NetscapeRoot
Short of reinstalling, I'm hoping to get some feedback ..
    Thanks in advance

  • AIX install - cannot logon to J2EE

I have just installed EP6 SR1 on AIX (well up to the WAS anyway)  and everything seemed to work except I cannot logon to the J2EE with the Administrator user id and password.
I try http://myportserver.com:50000 and the J2EE start page appears but when I try the code examples I get a windows pop-up authentication and when I put in "Administrator" as my user id and my installation password I get no farther.....3 trys and an authentication error.
Any idea......I think it may be a network issue as we only have one port open and numerous firewalls.
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
I'm just installing EP 6.0 SR1 on Aix and Db2.  But we're having problems during WAS installation.          Did you have any problem with Secure Store installation?  I'm talking about JCE and Crypto Toolkit files.
Error Message: Caused by: java.lang.SecurityException: Cannot set up certs for trusted CAs
I really appreciate your help !
    Thanks and regards from Mexico,
    Diego

  • License Error : 100000011 Cannot Logon;

Some of the users get this error and unable to login,  "License Error : 100000011 Cannot Logon; the user is already connected to same Company".
In this situation, the server has to be restarted.
Is there any other way to overcome this problem.  Restarting the server is incorrect option.
Secondly, is there any utility to find out the logged on users to the server.
    Regards

    Hi
    This error occurs when
-more than one user logged on with the same user name. Put in place better secuirity measures.
-the SAP client closes immediatly and gives a windows error more than once. This you can resolve by restarting the service manager (license part) on the server.
-inside sap you can see users logged on by going to the license administration window, but it shows the user names logged in. Not the pc's? The names are in a lighter grey.
-From Microsft SQL you can see the pc's connected to a specific database.
    Hope this helps

  • Users inbox blank in Outlook 2010 SP2 on all computers, but visible in OWA and Activesync

User uses Outlook 2010 SP2 and her inbox is blank. New profile, even new computer she's never logged into has the same issue. All mail is visible in her other folders in Outlook, in addition to in OWA and activesync clients. I've created a rule in OWA to
move all new mail that comes into her inbox into a new temporary folder in her mailbox, and that works as a temporary work around. outlook.exe /cleanviews and disabling all addins has no effect.
If I right click on the real inbox and click open in new window a message appears "cannot open the outlook window".
I thought maybe there was a corrupt message in her inbox so I moved everything from the last three weeks to a temporary folder through OWA, closed and reopened outlook on the client machine and same issue. The unread count is updating correctly on the broken
    mailbox however.
    Thoughts?
    Exchange (1 server - SBS 2011) version: 14.1 (build 218.15).

    Hi,
To narrow down this issue, I would like to confirm some information:
Whether this issue still happen when configuring the user's profile on other computers.
Running "outlook.exe /cleanviews" to reset views on the problematic computer has no effect.
    Workarround:
Try to run the /resetnavpane command:
    Close Outlook.
    Launch the Run dialog box.
Type Outlook.exe /resetnapane, then click OK or press
    Enter.
If this step did not solve the issue, please take the steps in the following link.
Repair your Outlook Data Files(.pst and .ost)

  • BEFW11S4 v4 cannot logon

Have firmware 1.52.02 - have reset router 5 times, still cannot logon - user blank, password admin. Tried using both Easylink Advisor and Easylink Connector, but both abort telling me that I have an unsupported product. No longer have installation CD...
Really urgent as I have 4 computers with port forwarding setup, but now that the factory settings (?) are set, nothing forwards... also the ssid has reverted back to linksys, so I know something has been reset. Can connect to internet and email via both wireless and cable, but simply cannot get in to change port forwarding, securing, admin via wireless and mac numbers.
Have tried various permutations on admin as user and password, blank user with admin as password, my old user and password... blank user and blank password.. nothing works. One one occasion I used the back arrow on my browser and saw the setup page, but when I click on any other tab, another login screen pops up, then I get the 401 screen.
Thanks for any help on this.

Do you get a lan ip when connected directly to the modem? If your modem is giving your router a lan ip. they might be on the same range and conflicting with the router. Try disabling firewalls and antiviruses.
