Cannot make but can receive facetime calls.

I just got an iPod touch 4th gen yesterday, and tried out the facetime feature. However, I found that I can only RECIEVE calls. when I try to MAKE a call, (and trust me, the contact info is correct), I get a constant ringing, and no notification on the receiving iPod that a call is coming in. I know this because my sister has the other iPod, and I can receive calls from her perfectly fine. We're on the same wi-fi network.
I have rebooted the iPod multiple times, so PLEASE skip over the obvious stuff.
Thanks,
Sam

You can try connecting to me at my FaceTime email address listed in my Profile if you like.
That worked fine, so it must be a problem with the fact we're on the same network.
Thanks,

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Account will send but not receive Facetime calls

I have an old iMac running Snow Leopard and a New iPad.  I have an Apple account for my wife and one for myself.  I can recieve Facetime calls on my wife's account when I send it from my account, but I cannot receive messages on my account when I send it from my wife's account.  It says I am "not available".
It doesn't make a difference which device we use to send the call the same problem persists, so it seems to be an account problem and not a hardware problem.
    Any suggestions?

  • Can receive Facetime calls but cannot initiate Facetime calls

    Hi,
As above, I am having trouble initiating Facetime calls even though I can receive them. I am using the latest software (4.2.1), have restored the phone and reactivated the iPhone and have reset all settings (General < Reset < Reset all settings). I have forwarded the ports specified by Apple for Facetime in my router and have UPnP enabled.
I should say that occasionally I can make a Facetime call successfully, but usually it rings indefinitely, or gets to the 'connecting' screen and then hangs indefinitely or disconnects after a while.
I only use Facetime to call my g/f and she has done the same steps to troubleshoot as me on the iPhone with the latest software/resets etc. (but I don't know anything about her router).
Is it possible I cannot make calls to her because of a problem on her side (even though she can make calls to me), or is it likely to be an issue with my connection?
    Thanks,
    Brophs

If your facetime does not work and you don't see the facetime button when you try to initiate a call try texting yourself. Sometimes your phone company has deactivated your text messaging when you hook up your new Iphone 4. Phone them and get it reactivated and it will work. You need three things to activate facetime. 1. Cell phone service (naturally) 2. connection to a router (wifi) and 3. text messaging that works. A text message is sent to complete the connection.
Have a great day and enjoy facetime.

  • Cannot make outgoing or receive incoming calls

On an iPhone 4 not a 4S, it was updated to 7.1.1 and now it will not make outgoing calls or receive incoming calls. If it is put in airplane mode it works once or twice then it stops. I wiped the phone completely, did not restore from a backup and it made a few calls then the next day it would not work again. What is going on?

I've had the same problem with the iPhone 4 that I gave my daughter. 2 weeks of restoring and turn stuff on and off. In options the "Carrier" kept disappearing and I was told to restore....... You may laugh, but after trying every possible option on the Net, I did a last ditch attempt of my own. WD40 sprayed onto the SIM (not too much!) and inserted before it dries out worked a treat! No problems since. Permanent signal, and no " Can't recieve or  make calls........"
Must've been corrosion or dust on the SIM contacts in the phone confusing the hardware.

  • Cannot send but can receive mails

Hello. I have a MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.11. I use a “.wanadoo.fr” account with an internet access through a Free internet box. So I used a pop.wanadoo and a smtp.free for the mail account. All this worked fine till 10 days ago. Now, I cannot send any mail (via the smtp.free) whereas I still receive mails (through the pop.wanadoo) and I always can surf the internet. For info : a pc which is connected to the same freebox can send mails with the same mail account. Other mistery : I ping successfully any internet address (from my Mac) but not my freebox, 2 feet away !?! And when I ping my Mac from my pc, nothing is found. As if the Mac was out of the local network. Any idea ?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!

  • SIP Problem - Can make, but not receive calls

I two E-Series phones (E51 and E71). The E71 is configured to connect over my WLAN to my corportate phone system. this works perfectly for making and receiving internal and external calls, however, my E51 can only make calls. both phones have identical settings with regard to my phone system but i wonder if there is a known bug and more importantly a workaround? i have also tried to configure a spare E65 and this presents the same problem as the E51.
Any ideas? starting to get a headache over this....
    Many thanks

I am sorry I didn't get back to you but I have been away for a while.  I have discovered that when I turn the firewall off on my imac I can receive Facetime calls - turn it back on and I can't.  Seems a little silly that Apple's own firewall blocks Facetime.
I wonder if anyone else has this problem.  I am a little concerned about having to keep my firewall turned off.
Thank you very much for your help anyway.

  • Hi, I have a macbook pro and when using FaceTime outgoing calls it says connecting but it never connects, however, I can receive incoming calls. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro and when making outgoing calls on facetime I get to connecting but it never does connect, however I can receive incoming calls. Any suggestions please?

    Hey there kakitiga,
It sounds like you are trying to make a call with FaceTime, it never finishes connecting to the person you are trying to reach. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps from this article named:
    FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4185
If you encounter issues making or receiving FaceTime calls, try the following:
Verify that FaceTime is enabled in FaceTime > Preferences. If the issue persists, or if you see the message "Waiting for Activation", try toggling FaceTime off and then on.
Verify that the Date, Time, and Time Zone are set correctly:
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
Verify that both parties are connected to an active broadband Internet connection.
See Mac OS X: Troubleshooting a cable modem, DSL, or LAN Internet connection.
Consult Using FaceTime behind a firewall for necessary ports to open in firewalls, security software and routers.
If you encounter issues using a Wi-Fi network, use standard Wi-Fi network troubleshooting to resolve interference and other issues.
Verify the phone number or email address being used is the correct one activated for FaceTime. You can verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.
Verify that both parties have installed the latest software updates for their Mac and/or device. See:
Mac OS X: Updating your software
iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

    Hello

can not make calls but can received calls

Call your carrier and ask them why.

  • I can receive FaceTime but cannot send.

I can receive Facetime OK but I cannot send Facetime (anymore). Have Restored but no effect. Does maybe Skype interfere !

    Back again.
Apologies for the delay – it's taken this much time to get a new micro-sim! You were correct that a new sim solved the texting problem - I can now send texts. BUT, the original problem still stands: I go to Settings / FaceTime / Use Apple ID for FaceTime / Enter Apple ID...  I enter my correct password and get:  "FaceTime Activation. The user name or password for (...my email) was incorrect. Try again".
The user name, by default, is my email and my password is the same one used to access this forum, iStore etc. so I know both are correct.
I live in the UAE where FaceTime is banned, but my iPhone 4s is UK specs and has the FaceTime app. I use the same app on my MacBook Pro over broadband and iPad over wifi with no problems. Advice appreciated.

I can't initiate a Facetime call, but can receive them on my iphone 4s. What's my problem?

Settings>FaceTime...is it on? If so, try turning it off, wait ~30 seconds or so, then turn it back on.
