Cannot map or even see drives on xserve RAID hanging off a xserve

Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, but when it comes to Macs I am one. We have a OS X Server 10.5.8 and a xserve RAID. The RAID looks ok and under the server I can see both of the RAID drives that have been created and access them. When we try to map to it on one of our house Macs, its errors out with "There was a problem connecting to the server." When we try to map to just the root of the server, we can see its hard drive, but not the RAID drives. Any help would be most appreciated!

By default, Mac OS X Server only shares the root drive.
In order to share external volumes (such as the XServe RAID volumes) you need to use Server Admin to mark the volumes as shared (as well as which protocols to use).

FF updated something so that history takes up whole bottom half of screen; I cannot surf, or even see start menu. I cannot change menu items so that I am asked before something is downloaded and uopdated automatically. These were NOT my settings!

My browser was very slow, so I cleared cookies and cache. When FF (4.0) restarted, it said it had installed colourful tabs (which I ALREADY HAD). I opened FF and typed in mmy first TE on my list ( I surf traffic exchanges). But I cannot do so on FF anymore. Only half my computer screen is from the TE or web page, and the bottom HALF of the screen is for History, etc. I cannot even see or access the Start menu or my open tabs at the bottom of the screen, unless I use Control and Escape.
I got the url from FF 4.0 , uninstalled the old version and reinstalled it. Same thing. I uninstalled it again, straight from my control panel (Windows Vista Home Premium), cleared cookies and cache again, fixed registry problems again, and restarted my computer. STILL same thing!
I tried to adjust settings, but it will not let me change what I need to. I cannot unclick that updates will be downloaded and installed automatically, and check that I want to be asked each time. I do not know if I can even SEE what was updated, to give you an idea if that could have caused this very nasty problem. Nasty, because until it is fixed, I will not be using FF.

After following all the instructions given, I poked around safe websites as suggested. I am not sure why this step was needed, as websites functioned rather normally before I came here but I did it anyways and found that the websites still work the same as they did. I can still do everything I used to be able to do. I see no change in the function of the websites.
However, I still cannot resize, close, or move the browser window. I don't know if Netflix is a safe site or not (too many conflicting opinions on that one from the masses) so I don't know if the issue with the vanishing buttons is still there, but all the issues I had with the browser window itself is still there.
Even in safe mode the browsers three window control buttons on the top right refuse to let me use them and the window itself will refuse to be moved around.

Cannot map a domain network drive. Unknown anomaly

I have a very annoying problem. We a have a Win2008R2 domain. Many domain client desktops and laptops, and some "out of domain" laptops. The problem is connected to the last ones. Everything is fine to map a shared server folder, because everyone
has a domain access instead of the client is domain or out of domain PC. Of corse I have to set manual the out of domain PC's network drives.
BUT we bought a Fujitsu Lifebook P Series laptop with Windows 7 Professional (it is an out of domain client) and I confronted with an anomaly.
When I manualy want to map a network drive it not change the domain!
The steps:
-Right click at Computer-> Map network drive
-I selected the Letter and type the shared folder: \\server1\folder1
-NOW it is ask the authentication process BUT
Normaly when I type the username with domain mydomain\username it should change the PC's name to the domain name like: JoeysLaptop --to--> MyDomain
And the problem is here. It NOT changes, and I cannot map the drive, because it say cannot find this path. In every else W7Pro laptop its working fine, but this one. Internet connection working. Pings are working, DNS working.
I checked the firewall settings, the services, the sharing center (public and home&work) file and printersharing and the networkscan is ON, the NetBIOS over TCP/IP is ok. So I am out of ideas. The other laptops are working fine with mapping, but this
one. Same OEM Win7Pros like this, but this is not working.
I do not realy want to reinstall with corporate windows, but that is my last option.
What settings are wrong and where should I search it?
Can anyone help me?

Hi,
Are you able to connect to or access that network drive or shared folder? When you map the drive, make sure the computer you're trying to connect to is turned on and you have correct permission to perform this action.
Or try to use net use command to map the drive and check if it works.

Using MDT, cannot map a specific network drive

I built a system using the Win7 64-bit DVD, installed a few applications. Tested opening a server in question.
Then ran Sysprep and Capture and saved the image as a WIM. Put that WIM in a task sequence and installed on another machine. Now that server cannot be mapped at all. However, other servers in our network environment can map fine. What
could it be that after the sysprep, and then deployment, could prevent it mapping to a single file server? Any suggestions will be helpful as it's driving me nuts.

Your writing makes it a little difficult for me to understand, but perhaps, and I'm only guessing here, the 'Apply GPO pack' step in the "State Restore" group spoils the game here. Perhaps the GPO settings have caused a lock-down of this system in question?
What have you tried? Firewall disabled, or modifying the network center "Changed Advanced Sharing settings"?The settings that can be found there are mainly responsible for the visibility of a server.
Pres command prompt and type "net use" to see if any drive mapping has already been made, and is blocking the access..

When using lotus notes travel I cannot open or even see email attachments with firefox 4

I use Lotus notes travel to view emails. Before downloading Firefox 4 (I was using the previous version) attachments to emails were always seen and available. Neither seeing or viewing is true with Firefox 4.

Windows Server R2 stop working. Cannot map network drive with my Win 7 client.

I had a problem for quite some time time and even i tried to solved it till now unfortunately seems unreachable.
I have a 2008 R2 server which is used as SQL 2005 server. My application program shared from the server. My win 7 client use a map network drive to access my share folder from my windows server. Suddenly my clients lost my connection. Since then i
cannot connect to the folder and i got the message
Windows cannot access \\Server\Storage
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.
Details: Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found.
I check out my share permissions, all seems ok. I also check out firewall, services, TCP/IP, share folders, really almost everything but still nothing.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve the problem.

Yes what seems to happened is due to virus infections.
This problem started 2 weeks a go. First i had network connection error with my client. Them my application had respond errors. Finally i lost my network drive.
I realize that the problem was due to virus. My old antivirus program doesn't s scan any threats so i uninstalled it, and i installed Panta antivirus and i clean up my server and my clients from virus. I am sure that both are clean from virus. My antivirus
program runs every day with no traces of infections.
Since then i cannot see my share folders on my server side and i cannot map network drive.
One thing that i want to avoid is re-installation of windows server 2008 R2.
Can anyone help about this

I can't see anything! The websites are either all black, or all white. The farthest I have gotten to seeing anything was the Google page, and that went black immediately. I cannot even see the commands at the top of the page!

I just downloaded the most Recent version of Firefox and I cannot see anything. Everything just goes blank, and I can't even see the toolbar up to try and get into the settings!

Laptop connect, Map Pro can't even see the AEBS... what gives?

I'm having no problems connecting to the AEBS network with my Macbook Pro, but my Mac Pro can't even see it. However, my Mac Pro works perfectly with my flatmate's Netgear wireless. Soooo.... what am I doing wrong? I've tried hard resets, unplugging, etc. and my Mac Pro simply can't find the AEBS at all, while working just fine with a Netgear wifi, but my Macbook Pro has no issues...

yeah thanks... it sometimes does see the airport but it keeps disappearing then reappearing. Very spotty connection, whereas it was working great for a couple weeks two weeks ago. It's really weird.

I cannot install windows 7 x64 with AMD/ASUS RAID driver

Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on an ASUS M5A97 mobo with AMD SB850 RAID, two WD 750GB drives configured as RAID 0. No drives are recognized by W7 install, so I choose Load Drivers. I put the drivers on a USB stick. Install finds the drivers there,
starts loading them, then comes back with "Installing an unsigned 64 bit driver is not supported and may result in an unstable Windows installation." I downloaded the latest drivers from ASUS website which are WHQL certified (as are the one's on the motherboard
disk). I saw other posts that recommend clicking Repair instead of Install, but I don't see where that option is. All I am given as options are Upgrade or Install. Choosing Upgrade tells me to boot Windows first. But this is a brand new install so...
I tried pressing F8 as setup was booting and chose "Disable Signed Driver Requirement" but that had no effect at all. If I turn off the RAID W7 sees both disks and happily installs. I see related posts going back to 2009; surely someone has
a solution for this issue?

Hi guys,
I have been struggling with the same issue.
Win7 x64. Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 Mobo with Intel core i7-3930K at 3.20 GHz
Marvell 88SE9172 SATA RAID controller with two Hitachi 500 GB spinning disks configured as RAID1
Windows would get to the point of asking for a mass storage drive. It would not see the RAID I had created.
Tried every driver I could find. Tried drivers from the "Station Drivers" website. Tried Marvell drivers for the same chip from the ASUS website. No luck. Tried loading from CD as well as USB flash drive. Always the same result... Windows would find
the drivers appropriate for the hardware found, I would select the RAID version, and after a few seconds, would report that the drivers were unsigned, and the installation was not supported for 64-bit drivers. Clicking OK would take me back to the load drivers
display with no new drives listed in the available drives window.
I tried hitting F8 during startup, and selected the "allow install of unsigned drivers option". That didn't do ANYTHING. Still the same error.
Someone suggested putting the drivers in the root directory. That didn't work. I also disabled all other drives except one CD rom and a USB drive and made sure that my RAID array was the first drive in the boot list.
Tried doing a windows repair, as someone else suggested. (This is an option that is available on the install disk I am using. It's enabled as part of EMS (emergency management services) in setup. Anyway, this was reported to be a workaround
to the signed driver issue. It would allow me to browse to the individual files, but no matter which one I selected, the response was "cannot find hardware appropriate to the driver selected" or some such nonesense. So I gave up on that.
Doing the install with the controller in IDE mode with just one drive connected, would result is Windows installing without a hitch. The problem was clearly when I presented 64-bit windows with a controller in RAID mode.
Long story less long, here's what worked for me....
Out of desperation, I began trying other subfolders in the driver lists. The Gigabyte manual indicated that the AMD64 subfolder was the correct one for the Marvell controller, when using RAID mode with 64-bit Windows. After trying every subfolder of
every driver I could find, the driver in the i386 folder actually worked. It initially came back with the same error about unsigned drivers, but after clicking OK, my RAID drive showed up in the list. I have been able to partition and format
the drive from within Windows setup, and am continuing with the install now. Hopefully won't be any problems booting from the drive post install, but so far it looks good, and I'm relieved that I was able to get it this far.
The whole process has been one of the most frustrating computing experiences I've ever had. This is what it was like back in the 90's when building PCs from scratch. I'm amazed that in this day and age the process is still so poorly documented
and filled with potholes, traps and caveats. Shame on the entire PC industry for allowing this to continue. I'm not asking that they jump in and try to automate it and do all the thinking for me (their solution for everything lately)...all I'm asking for it
clear, concise and accurate INFORMATION.
With the right information, and software that provides accurate feedback, this would all be easy...and even fun.

NSS6000: unable to map as a network drive in Win7pro

I have setup my NSS6000 through the web browser interface (setup RAID5, created a volume, created a share (using CIFS protocol), and created a couple usernames). Now I am trying to map my share as a network drive and it is not working.
I select Map a Network Drive in My Computer, select a drive letter, enter its ip address as "\\192.168.0.xxx" in the folder line, and check the boxes for "Reconnect at logon" and "Connect using different credentials"
After entering all this info, a logon screen appears asking me for a username and password. I enter the username and password for a username I created through the web interface. After a few seconds, the logon window reappears. I try my username/password again, this continues 3-4 times and then finally it says "Windows cannot access \\192.168.0.xxx"
I have gotten error codes of 0x80070035 (The network path was not found). Also, when I select "Diagnose" after getting the "Windows cannot access" popup box, it sometimes tells me "The device or resource (192.168.0.xxx) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)"."
I can see the device in the Network window of My Computer (listed under "Other Devices" as NAS00xxxxxxxx). I can also continue to access it via the ip address through the web interface.
Some things I have tried:
entering the MAC address instead of the IP address (\\NAS00xxxxxxxx) as the folder
entering \\192.168.0.xxx\nas as the folder (nas is the name of the share I created)
entering my username as both "NAS00xxxxxxxx\username" and just as "username"
entering my adminstator login credentials for the web browser interface as the username/password, as opposed to a username I created within the web interface
Not checking the "Connect using different credentials" box
I can't believe this is so difficult. Can anyone help me solve this? Thanks

Thanks for the tips - here's what I did and the results
Created a new username on through the web interface; changed the hostname to "nasbox"; rebooted the NSS6000; rebooted the pc while the NSS was booting; logged on to the pc with a generic username (not admin or administrator)
tried again to map it as a network drive - specified \\192.168.0.xxx\nas as the folder name (again, "nas" is the name of the share I created on the device), selected the checkbox for "Connect using different credentials". Clicked finish, box for username/password pops up. I enter the new username/password I created - same result. No joy.

XSU Problem:Error-- Cannot map Unicode to Oracle character

Hi, I am using XSU to get the resultset from database(oracle 9.2.0.6.0) as XML.When I query data from some columns and get the XMLString, they give me error -"Cannot map Unicode to Oracle character". The database charset is "US7ASCII" .
One column is storing Chinese with ''US7ASCII".When xmlString Result contianer
the column,there is "oracle.xml.sql.OracleXMLSQLException: Cannot map Unicode to Oracle character".But If xmlString Result don't container that column,it run very good.

The column that store chinese is AREA_NAME_CN .When "selectSQL " is equal to "select AREA_CODE,AREA_NAME,REGION_CODE from CDM_AREA",the program is ok.

So, What is the solution ? Is there something I can do in my code ? My program gives the exception and stops. I am not even interested to fetch the data, which are giving this error.

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.

Check Finderr->Preferences->General and ensure that HDs are selected for display. If so and they still don't, Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, and see if that does the trick.

What may have happened is an error and a kernel panic, filling up the logfiles.
What I recommend is first to find a way to backup your data without booting the hard drive directly if it isn't already backed up, and then get Alsoft Disk Warrior to repair the hard drive.    You'll probably want an external drive from http://www.macsales.com/
And you'll want to go into Hard drive -> Library -> Logs, System -> Library -> Logs, and Users -> yourname -> Library -> Logs to remove whatever you find there.
If after booting it fills up again, start by removing all startup items in your System Preferences for your user, and rebooting in safe mode with the shift key held down. If the hard drive is over 85% full after removing the logfiles, you may want to look at what were the last applications you installed.
Peer2peer software if installed can be as bad as a virus, because it enables others to access your computer. Insecure wireless networks are just as bad, if they are WEP or no encryption and someone is within 1500 feet of your computer.
If no such software is installed, your RAM probably has failed.    Run the hardware test that came with your computer, by booting with the 'D' key.
If nothing shows up there, it can still be the RAM.   Especially if you've seen any 4 language screens telling you to restart.
