Cannot mount disk from a Sol8 system via nfs

Hi All
I have Sol10 up and running. I noticed that it was not very easy to mount a linux disk with nfs. I found out that I had to add -o vers=3. Now I would like to mount a disk from a Sol8 system
So far I only managed to get:mount sol8sys:/storage /mnt/sol8sys
nfs mount: sol8sys:/storage: Permission deniedThis gives me the impression something is not configured well on the Sol8 system.
Well here is some info about that $ exportfs
-               /storage   rw=serv1:serv2:sol10sys,ro=serv3   "Storage Array"
sol10sys represents the system I'm trying to mount on.......
Any suggestions why I cannot mount this disk ? or give me some hints on how to proceed solving this problem!
Thanks a lot
LuCa

The reverse resolution has to match exactly. Most machines are in DNS, so the reverse resolution will be a name, not an IP address. Therefore they won't match.
Also, how were you specifing the IP address? You can't just throw an IP address in an access list. From the share_nfs man page we can see that an access list contains:
hostname, netgroup, domain name suffix, or network. 'IP address' isn't a valid member.

  • Cannot unmount disk from standard user account (bound to AD)

I have an intel iMac running 10.8.2 with problems unmounting disks. This isn't an issue from administrative accounts. However, any standard account requires authentication by an administrator to unmount a disk. I ran top while trying to unmount the disk and noticed that the daemon securityagent kept emerging. Unfortunately I can seem to modify any config or plist files to stop this prompt from happening. I need standard users to be able to mount and unmount disks from the machine. Here is what I've tried:
    Safe booting
    removing the plugin at /System/Library/CoreServices/SecurityAgentPlugins/DiskUnlock.bundle
Writing an Applescript running a diskutil command with administrator privileges (I'm sure the syntax was fine because it worked on a 10.7 machine)
    removing com.apple.unmountassistant.useragent.plist
    Disk Utility
I might be forgetting a step or two but that's about it. Any ideas?

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Could Spotlight or TM be running on those drives in that account?

  • I cannot eject disk from my MacBook Air

I cannot eject a disk from my MacBook Air.   I've tried many options.    Any suggestions?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Cannot eject disk from bootcamp set up

Just setting up the bootcamp with Windows XP disk, all the installment is done but when you get to the end and windows says 'restarting in 13 sec's, please eject disk we cannot eject and it then states in a black background - disk error, press any key to re-start - nothing working when we do this. Have tuned on and off with same response - disk error, Think if we can just eject the disk it will be ok, using a wireless keyboard (but did not install keyboard software) thanks

You cannot eject the disk from the Mac during the install process. You only have access to the eject key after the Windows install is complete and after you install the Bootcamp Windows drivers from your Mac OS X disk. That is why you need to use a full version instead of an upgrade version per Apple's Bootcamp documentation. If you have a full, supported version of Windows you should be able to complete the install and reboot. Then you can boot into Mac OS X (holding the alt key after the ding and the white screen appears on the computer), eject the Windows install disk and insert the Mac OS X disk, then boor Windows and install the Bootcamp tools.
It sounds like your wireless keyboard is the problem here. You probably need a wired USB keyboard to do the Windows install. A USB keyboard (or the build-in notebook keyboard) will work for the install process (typing in the codes and what not).

  • SunBlade 100 - cannot mount/boot from CD-Rom

    Dear Forum,
Please excuse what are very basic questions - I'm very new to Sun and Unix and still feeling my way around :o) I would be very grateful if someone has the time to help me with this.
I installed Solaris 10 on my inherited Blade 100 and all works fine except for I cannot mount the cdrom (I get the message Mount point cannot be determined) Under advisement from a distant friend of a friend, I tried stopping vold and then mounting the drive but it still doesn't work. Another friend suggested I replace Solaris 10 with Debian Linux... but the poor ole blade couldn't find the CDROOM from the OK prompt either.
At a guess - I'm thinking that the drive has actually just died. The machine was sat around for 3 years doing nothing. But its equally likely that I screwed up the OS from being a complete airhead, so any tips on how to trouble shoot this would be most welcome.
If I need to replace the drive, I have a couple of old Ultras that I can cannibalize for a replacement drive - plus a few pcs. I would be grateful for any tips on doing this too.
    many thanks in advance,
    Kate

A couple or 'corrections' if I may.
There is no such command as probe-ide-all.
IDE devices can only be internal ones and the -all syntax is an OBP syntax to look at external devices.
It shouldn't work. It should not provide usable information.
If you need to review how to work within the OpenBoot environment,
then here is the OBP 4.x Command Reference Manual from Docs.Sun.Com
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs?q=816-1177
Next, your report that "boot cdrom" was returned when you probed the IDE bus ...
    ... just doesn't make sense.
A command does not produce another command as its output report.
The result of an OBP probe of whatever bus you're examining (not IDE, not SCSI)
should not return another command as its result.
Replace the optical drive in that SunBlade 100.
They were prone to spontaneous failure.
    Just replace the drive.

  • I updated to Tiger 10.4.11 & cannot mount disk images &other problems.HELP!

I just updated to Tiger 10.4.11/combo update. I used the stand alone installer (because Software Update since I updated to 10.4.10delta). I repaired permissions before and after the update. Now I can't mount disk images I always get the message "Mount Failed".This occured when downloading and trying to open an existing disk image.I ran fsck, even tried AppleJack all to no avail.I know this problem wasn't there before the update as I downloaded the update and a couple of small utilities and all was well with the world (they all mounted properly). I was doing fine with OSX 10.4.9 but just had to upgrade! Can someone PLEASE HELP ME? I'M grateful for any suggestions and the forums have been good to me in the past.

Some part of the OS is messed up... I've heard that if you Deltas you must stick with those, if you do Combos you must stick with those, no idea if it's true, as I always use the bigger Combo Updates.
Most likely the best solution for both of you is an Archive & Install...

    Then apply...

  • MBP cannot find disk from start-up utility

I'm working with my friend's MBP, and it won't start up. It shows a folder with a question mark on it.
Apparently, he downloaded Mavericks, but didn't install it. The next time he opened his computer, this happened.
So I held option while booting it up and I got to the start-up utility. I tried to repair the disk from disk utility, but the only disks are something like "disk0" and "Mac OS X Utlity" (I can't remember the name exactly. But there were only two.
All the options were grayed out no matter which disk I chose. Additionally, I tried to reinstall Lion (the only option) and it prompted me to select a drive to install to, and none were available.
Is there any solution to this, or is the computer dead? What could have caused this?
    Thanks.

The computer isn't dead, but the hard drive probably is.

  • Cannot run Disk Manager in Full System Restore

    Hi,
I'm trying to do a full client restore of Windows 8.1 with my Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials (all Windows Updates installed on server), but on the screen where I select source and destination volume, and I click on "Run Disk Manager", I get
error "Cannot load Microsoft Management Console". Same error occurs whether I start the Full System Restore via network over Client Restore Service, or via USB stick.
I can think of a workaround to this, but I've used this earlier in previous Essentials/WHS versions and it has worked flawlessly, so I'm wondering if this is some regression in 2012 R2?
UPDATE: For anyone wondering, the workaround for this was to boot with normal Windows ISO, go to Advanced settings -> Command prompt, and set up the volume using
diskpart tool. Then going back to Full System Restore, and you can just select the correctly initialized target volume.
    Any comments?

    Hi,
Few days ago system got in a weird state and had to do a full restore. Enabled network boot from BIOS, connected to Windows Server, chose disks (only restore BIG_SSD, i.e., C:) just normally without need to go to Disk Manager, as backup matched current drive.
Perhaps the original issue was due to boot partition being on the secondary drive for some reason (drive D:), but I'm not sure if it was indeed the case.
I have seen it before as well, that restores in Essentials don't work properly if you've chosen only to backup drive C:, but for some reason drive D: is the booting disk (although Windows is on C:). Why has it ended up like that, I don't know, but nowadays
I always install Windows with just one hard drive connected especially if I want to get reliable backups to Essentials.
Thank you everyone for feedback, will mark it as solved, although we perhaps got more questions than answers :)

  • HT3964 Cannot eject disk from Superdrive?

I have an Apple Superdrive connected to my iMac. I loaded a music cd, and ejected successfully. Then i inserted a dvd with photographs, just to check what was on it. I now cannot eject this dvd. I cannot see the disk drive or file anywhere. have tried to eject using button on keyboard. Have followed steps which tell me to shut down computer, unplug and restart after 15 secs. Also done Restart. Feel like chucking the drive at the wall! Can anyone help, please?

    Nome Malaga wrote:
Just realised that the restart will not work, as I cannot close iPhotos. When i try to close it, it says cannot close as photos are importing. Can only be referring to the photos on this dvd stuck in the drive. Doesn't appear to be any way tp abort the import into iPhoto from dvd, but import is not actually happening! What can i do?
Force Quit iPhotos. If you don't know how to force quit an app, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and select Force Quit, select the application (iPhoto) and hit Enter.

  • HELP required! Cannot boot leopard, cannot repair disk from install disk

While my Macbook was indexing the hard drive (leopard 10.5.4), it froze and I was forced to force shut down the laptop. After doing that, it would not boot up. It stayed at the gray screen with the Apple logo and rolling ball and the laptop eventually shut down after 10 minutes or so.
I have attempted to boot from my Leopard Install DVD and tried disk repair but I could not do so because the buttons were "grayed out" and I could not click them. The only button that can be clicked is "verify disk". I tried doing so and it resulted in many errors.
I also tried booting in single user command mode (CMD+S) and typed in fsck -fy but it could not repair my disk.
As a last resort, I have tried to reinstall a fresh copy of OS X but it says that I need to wipe out my whole hard drive before doing so. I have so data that I have put on my Macbook in the last week and would like to recover it before re-installing OS X. Is there any way to do so?
My most favorable outcome would be to fix the problem and avoid reinstalling OS X (if possible). Any suggestions?

Without a bootable backup/clone or a TimeMachine restorable file, you're out of luck unless you pop for DiskWarrior and try to fix your file directory (no guarantees, but it works for many).

    How can I rectify this?
In all honesty I am sarting to regret buying a mac, all I have been expericing is trouble. they are not major but very annoying.
I  fixed it one month ago for slow boot up time, it was fixed yet it is progressively heading doen that road again helpp.
I am a university student and this thing is really annoying

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can only write in NTFS drives in Windows, not OS X or Linux or any other UNIX-based system. If you want to write in NTFS drives, you have to use a third-party application as Paragon NTFS.
Another possibility you have is to format the external drive in a format that OS X can read and write in it, like HFS+ (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)), FAT32 (MS-DOS (FAT)) or exFAT, but this is longer and you need a lot of time to back up your external drive files

  • I cannot download photos from my digital camera to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to successfully do this up to 4 days ago but not yesterday. My camera/device is recognized in the Source List but photos won't download for me to import to library.

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.
    Thank you,
    Novice50

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • .PLST on mounted disk

    Hi
In the thread below Cyclosauras helped get my head around "defaults write" etc, which works great for my wee app,
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2676053&#2676053
what I would like to attempt is to expand on this for my purposes by having the .plst file on a mounted disk that a couple of users access, so as each user uses the same .plst, what would I need to add to this script to make this possible?
    set LASTNUMBER to 0
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write ~/Desktop/TestFile 'LAST NUMBER' " & LASTNUMBER
set new_num to (do shell script "defaults read ~/Desktop/TestFile 'LAST NUMBER'")
    display dialog new_num
    cheers
    Budgie

    Hi kel
Thanks for that, I think I need to explain a wee bit better,
Im trying to have 1 .plst stored on a mounted disk that two users access via my app from their own work stations, the information in the .plst is the same for both, meaning that if user (A) opens the app types 123 clicks ok to write to .plst, then user (B) opens the app he will see "123", both users get to see what the other has entered into the .plst
    hope that makes some sense

  • HTTP REST API call to CPSC 10.x from an external system

    Hi,
I would like to know the below items.
Is it possible to connect with the CPSC 10.x from an external system via HTTP REST API call to process a request and complete a task?
Is it possible to create a new ticket / request in CPSC for a specific service via the HTTP REST API call?
One of the use case is to know how many requests are pending in a queue via a HTTP REST API call? How to pass a queue name in the HTTP REST API call to get the result? These kind of custom piece is not available in the integration guide.
Is there any specific REST API guide available which Cisco provides for the REST capability in CPSC?
    Any help is highly appreciated!
    Thanks.

When a task is invoked from a service catalog request to an external system, the request remains open and the task is pending until the external system issues a call to complete the task.  The API for completing the task is SOAP-based.  Check out the Cisco Prime Service Catalog Integration Guide.  Within the doc, go to the section about "Web Service Listener Adapter" for the WSDL.
You can order a service within Prime Service Catalog with a SOAP call, which is also documented in this same document.  Starting with Prime Service Catalog 10.1, you will have a way to order a service via a REST API.
Existing REST APIs are also documented in the integration guide.
