Cannot mount 'My Book' HD no matter how I try - any advice how I can do this?
Can you offer any advice or help with the following:
I have a WD external Hard drive connected to my iMac
I cannot get the HD to mount although the Smartware disc shows on the desktop
I've tried disc verification and repair and the result is that the HD is fine - no errors or problems indicated - the HD shows in Disc Utility but not in finder sidebar.
I've tried everything to get the HD to mount, all to no avail.
It will mount on my MacBook so i don't think the problem is with the HD
When I go to Finder - Go - Folders - and type /volumes all the HD folders are showing but with a little delete icon in the bottom right hand corner (little red circle with line through).
When I go to Time Machine it is not showing me the 'My Book' Drive for backup - it says no ndrives available.
This has only happened in the last three days. Before that the HD has been working perfectly for the last two years as my backup drive.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
I click the icon in the taskbar. The editor works fine but the organiser has stopped working. I have 4 catalogues and approx 19000 pictures in them but organiser has stopped working.Have reinstalled the software but this didnit resolve the problem

Yes it sounds like you have a corrupted preference file.
The setting you make in individual programs get saved to a Preference file in your Users/Library/Preferences folder.
All you have to do is drag out the old file to the desktop, reboot and load the program and the preference file gets rebuilt without your preferences which you reset.
For your case I beleive the preference file is
com.apple.desktop.plist -
I have an ipad 2 and just rented a movie. When I try to load the movie to the ipad it indicates that it was not copied to the ipad because it cannot be played on the ipad. How do I fix this?
P.S running software version 4.3.3I have the same problem on an original iPad.

I just purchased a new laptop, so consequently had to buy Itunes Match to get all of my music back. Now everything is in the cloud, and I can't play them and cannot make a cd. Please explain how I can get my library out of the cloud and keep them on my computer so they are available when I want them? Wow.......why have you made everything so difficult now?

Except for anything you did not purchase in iTunes Store.
Only you iTunes purchases are in the cloud.

As of 2 months ago, I cannot fully access Facebook using either Safari or Firefox browsers. I have a Mac G5 running OSX 10.5.8, Safari 5.0.6 and Firefox 3.6.28. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can resolve this?
Aha, a PPC Mac!
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a later version installed.

All I know is that my itunes has not been updated. If this is the problem, I tried to close and reopen the program but the "update" popup isn't popping up anymore and I'm not sure where I can manually update it myself.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List. -
Why can't I open and retrieve my files from iPhoto and my Address Book after importing the files from my Power Mac G5 to my new Mac Pro? I get a warning that says the new OS on my Pro doesn't open files from a Power Mac. Any idea how I can fix this?
For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys. Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it. It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process. the ".rm" extension is created by 'Real Media' application.
The easiest way to use it is to install the 'Real Media' player:
1. RealPlayer BBC.app
2. RealPlayer 12.app
I have both installed & use them sometimes.

You need to either upgrade your computer to Mac OS X 10.6 or download the content directly from Apple's servers instead of your computer; for content not purchased from iTunes, the second option requires signing up for iTunes Match.

I need to reinstall my Final Cut Express. I have a version of 3.5 and then an upgrade to 4. Somehow I have managed to mislay the serial No for 3.5 so cannot install. Does anyone know how I can resolve this.
If version 4 is an upgrade only, you will have to have the serial number of the 3.5 full version.
If you can't find it try contacting Apple with your proff of purchase, they may be able to help.

I have had my mac book pro for about a year and a half and suddenly my dvd player will not play DVDs and i can not play alot of things on full screen. Does anybody know how i can fix this?
This could be several things, but let's get the obvious ones out of the way, first:
1. Judging from your text, there's no problem with anything stuck in the mechanism; it's more an issue of no being to put in a disk. In other words, you're sure that there isn't a disk stuck in your MBP. (That happens a lot for all computers.)
2. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, and repair the disk. This should take under 10 minutes.
3. Perform the procedure outlined here:
