Cannot mount volume, security policy problem

ive never seen this before until today, but i can no longer access CDs or my USB thumbdrives through Nautilus by clicking on their respective icons. i get the following error dialog
i dont know much about dbus or hal, but the error dialog mentions those. what kind of other info, if any, would you guys need to help me solve something like this?

I believe you need to add the respective user to the "storage" group. Give this a try: as root run
gpasswd -a USERNAME storage
restart udev or simply reboot. This fixed my problem.

  • Gnome "cannot mount volume"

Gnome doesn't want to mount my USB pen drive.  I get the following message:
    Cannot mount volume.
    Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied.
A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to the recipient...
I have hal, dbus & fam in my DAEMONS and I have added myself to the optical and storage groups.  I have also logged off and on and tried restarting, but I still get this error.

I am having this same issue. However, I have added myself to both groups and logged out and back in again. I cannot get this to work on either my laptop or my desktop. Any other suggestions?
**Solved on my laptop: You have to restart dbus.
Log out of your DE, and go to a console
    /etc/rc.d/dbus restart
    /etc/rc.d/hal restart
    Should work now

  • Cannot mount volume

    Hi
I have a server connected to a MDC.
The MDC is running 10.4.8 server, XSan 1.4.1.
The MDC can mount the SAN correctly.
The client is running 10.4.8 server, XSan 1.4.1
The client cannot mount the SAN.
    What I've tried:
    Re-installing XSAN
    Re-installing the 10.4.8 combo update
    Re-installing the 2006-007 security update
Changing from Controller, medium to client and back.
    mount -t ... /Volumes/SAN
Every time I get this in the syslog:
Dec 13 13:54:35 xsanclient kernel[0]: Could not mount filesystem SAN, cvfs error ' Timeout' (25)
    any ideas

  • Cannot mount volume - device offline

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to setup OSB on a Linux box (CentOS).
I could configure the tape library and tape drives as explained in the installation/admin guide but could not get the tape volume mounted. It keeps giving the errors:
can't mount volume in tape1 - device offline
It seems that the volume is offline. How can we get it online?
The error log for the tape drive shows:

  • I updated to Tiger 10.4.11 & cannot mount disk images &other problems.HELP!

I just updated to Tiger 10.4.11/combo update. I used the stand alone installer (because Software Update since I updated to 10.4.10delta). I repaired permissions before and after the update. Now I can't mount disk images I always get the message "Mount Failed".This occured when downloading and trying to open an existing disk image.I ran fsck, even tried AppleJack all to no avail.I know this problem wasn't there before the update as I downloaded the update and a couple of small utilities and all was well with the world (they all mounted properly). I was doing fine with OSX 10.4.9 but just had to upgrade! Can someone PLEASE HELP ME? I'M grateful for any suggestions and the forums have been good to me in the past.

Some part of the OS is messed up... I've heard that if you Deltas you must stick with those, if you do Combos you must stick with those, no idea if it's true, as I always use the bigger Combo Updates.
Most likely the best solution for both of you is an Archive & Install...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    Then apply...

  • Cannot mount Xsan volume on Mac Pro

Your help would be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
I am accessing this WS via ARD, so public LAN is definitely there. I have not connected the "Xsan" network (but it should be no problems communicating the Xsan traffic over this single LAN connection).
With the firewall, the situation is more strange. When I try to open the Firewall settings on Sharing, there is a dialog "Other firewall software is running on this computer." I googled this and it seems that this was a common problem on 10.3. They suggest to delete com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist file but it is not there on 10.4.
    "sudo ipfw list" shows this:
00001 allow udp from any 626 to any dst-port 626
65535 allow ip from any to any
Any ideas on how to make Firewall behave as expected? I will try to reinstall if I don't receive a reply.
    Thanks.

  • Mounted drives security access rights

    Hi!
I am troubleshooting mounted volume security access issues on Server 2012 R2 and created a test folder "test adm_fla", and mounted a small disk to it to test adding permissions. See image below: (taken from the Security tab on the folder "test
    adm_fla")
On the other hand, if I look at the Properties of the mounted volume (from the General tab on the test adm_fla folder) and the Security tab, this is what I see:
Why are not the TendSign permissions I set manually listed here? I thought they would be "linked"/added automatically somehow
The issue is actually that, according to the customer, manual TendSign... permissions we have specified as inhereted on all folders, suddenly get removed, and we don't know why. These TendSign volumes are replicated to another server.
Has anybody had this issue before?

    Hi,
The mounted volume is placed in an empty folder of the host NTFS volume. The empty folder inherits permissions from the Root volume. But the explicit permissions on the mounted volume don’t propagate across the root volume.
For more detailed information about the permissions on root volume, mounted volume, mounted volume link folders, you could refer to the article below:

  • Kanaka Client unable Mount volume

I have OES11SP2 on SLES 11 SP3 on which I am running KANAKA ENGINE to mount volumes on MAC Client from servers running under same Tree.
Created eDirectory user account which have rights on volumes from two servers under the same tree.
example: 1) abc (volume) under Server1 (Running Kanaka engine)
    2) xyz (volume) under Server2
Note: Tested AFP connectivity working without issues for both the volumes from MAC OS, also eDirectory users can map both volumes on windows machine with Novell client login.
Issue is I cannot mount volume from Server2 using KANAKA Client on MAC OS. However Server1(running kanaka engine) can able to mount.
    any help is highly appreciated.

  • Secured WebDAV Mounted Volume Authorization Issues

I use a secure WebDAV mounted volume from myDisk.se and up until the latest Security Update have had zero issues being able to manipulate files and folders as I would on a normal volume. However, since the installation of the Security Update (2009-004 (PowerPC) 1.0) I find weird things happening with this mounted volume:
    1) I am able to mount the secured WebDAV share using my security credentials.
    2) I can create a default "untitled" folder but when I try to change its name, the WebDAV authorization dialog pops up and despite entering the same credentials (why, I am not sure as the volume has already been properly credentialed in order to be mounted), access is denied.
    3) Trying to create a file within a folder on the mounted WebDAV volume I previously created pre-update causes the same authorization issue.
I have no other WebDAV shares I can try to mount from any other companies so I am not sure if this is a myDisk issue or one borne from the Security Update. I am not a .Mac/MobileMe user and that info is not filled out in System Preferences. The internal hard drive has been meticulously maintained with Disk and Permissions repair being run both before and after each and every software update installed. Likewise, the volume's structure is also checked both before and after and shows no need for repairs.
Any ideas? Perhaps there is a corrupted file somewhere that's affecting the authorizations needed by this third-party WebDAV volume?
The machine that has this problem is the last model iBook G4/1.33GHz 12" display, 1.5GB RAM, and a 100GB 5400rpm HD which replaced the stock OEM 40GB 4200rpm drive about one year ago.
I'm not willing to do an Archive and Install at this point as the loss of the WebDAV access to my online volume is not critical. Inconvenient as heck but not to the point where I'm willing (or able) stop my normal work to spend the hours it will take to get WebDAV access back.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

same problem here with webdav, I can't mount my idisk from university network on Mac Pro 10.5.3 (although it mounts fine from home network on both ibook and PMG5 10.5.3). Everything was fine with 10.5.2 and I already re-installed 10.5.3 combo. Other bugs as well with .Mac prefs (keeps crashing, sometimes it shows the available space on idisk but still no mounting, with error -35 or -8086), but .Mac sync is OK

  • Backup Controller cannot mount XSAN Volume

    Hi Guys,
I've really have a big problem regarding the XSAN that I've just setup: There are 3 Xserves connected to the SAN - one for the main controller, one for backup and another one for fileserver. After a fresh install of the Leopard Server 10.5.6 on all servers and fresh install of Xsan 2.0 updated to 2.1.1, I tried creating an SAN from the main controller, I added first the main and backup controllers, authenticated them properly and was successful adding them to the SAN. After this, I created the volume and it mounted properly on the main controller. What I don't understand is that whenever I try to mount the volume to the backup controller, it is saying unable to mount and even I tried forcing it to mount in terminal using the command xsanctl mount VOLNAME, its giving me an error saying
"unable to mount volume, Cannot mount XSAN volume error code: 5"
What is that error message? When I tried typing cvadmin to the main controller, it only gave me this message:
    Main Controller:
File System Services (* indicates service is in control of FS)
    1>*XSAN[0] located on 10.0.0.101:49930 (pid 317)
    Select FSM "XSAN"
When I type the same cvadmin to the backup controller, it gave me this message:
    Backup Controller:
File System Service (* indicates service is in control of FS)
    1> XSAN[1] located on 10.0.0.102:50384 (pid 331)
    No FSSs are active
    Select FSM "none"
What is happening? both servers are having a DNS name. Before I created the SAN, from the authenticate window, the server name is just the IP address of the Ethernet 0 (first ethernet port). Now whenever I fire up Xsan Admin, both controllers are now offline and if you authenticate them, the server name info suddenly changed from IP address to a DNS Name (e.g. from 194.170.34.12, changed to hct-mdc.ad.hct.ac.ae) which even if I type my admin username and password cannot authenticate saying "server not found in network"
I really don't know now what to do and they need to fix the issue asap.
I would really appreciate your help guys!
    Thanks.
    jantoniophi

    Hi,
I am accessing this WS via ARD, so public LAN is definitely there.
    Thanks.

  • I cannot mount my hard drive volume!

Began a standard install of OS 9.2.2 and then my hard drive icon disappeared from the desktop. I opened drive setup from the utilities folder of the 9.2.2 cd and I cannot mount the volume no matter what. I can only start up from the cd holding down the c key and that's as far as I can go. Is this it for this powerbook? Trash time? HELP!

    monkybiz,
If initialization failed, there is a problem with the HD. However, there is a process that may correct the problem or it will definitively tell you the HD is bad. HDs can fail at any time so it just may be coincidence the problem arose when trying to install software.
Since initializing the HD failed, apparently the computer can now see the HD. Boot to your MacOS 9.x CD and open the folder that says Utilities and launch Drive Setup. Highlight your HD's name in the window, then move up to the menu bar. Under Functions, select Initialization Options, then check the box for 'zero all data'. Also select MacOS Extended Format when that window appears. When the process has completed (it will take awhile), select 'Test Disk' under Functions (it will also take a while). If zeroing fails or Test Disk fails, try again to zero and then run Test Disk.
If successful, install software; if the above fails, your HD is hosed. By the way, once Drive Setup has been launched, Drive Setup Help is available from the menu bar.

  • Problem with Dataguarg   ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a physical standby database on my Oracle9i DB runing
    on WinXP.
Note: I have both Primary and Standby on the same system.
Actually everything went well .... I did created the standby DB but the problem
is I can not start my primary DB if my standby DB is mounted.
    I get this error:
ORA-01102: cannot mount database in EXCLUSIVE mode
And when I read about the error message I learnt that I should start my DB in
compatible mode ... please how do I do that?
Or possibly how can I make this work.
    Regards,
    Cherish

Actually, I remember doing that in the Pry pfile but cannot really remember if I do that in the standby pfile.
I'll check and get back to you.
    I'm very grateful for that.
    Regards,

  • There is a problem with this connection's security certificate The remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. Security certificate problems might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send

    Hi,
I have this Windows 2008 R2 on which I installed remoteapp some years ago.
Now the certificate expired and I get the message
"There is a problem with this connection's security certificate
The remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate.
Security certificate problems might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the remote computer."
How should I renew the certificate? I already went to certification store and tried to renew certificate with same key but then it says "the request contains nor certificate template information".
    Please advise.

Does the computer account have Enroll permission to the certificate template?
From the Server running your CA, run mmc, click File then Add/Remove Snap-in...
Add Certificate Templates and click OK.
Find the certificate template, then right click and select properties.  On my CA its call ed RemoteDesktopComputers but might be called something different depending on what what template your certificate is based on.
On the security tab, click Oblect types, check Computers then OK. Enter the Computername and click OK.  Then give your computer account Enroll permisssion.
