Cannot move clips between bins

hello, all of a sudden i cannot move my clips between bins anymore. any idea why? thanks

nice one....well i just restarted fcp and everything went back to normal.

Moving clips between bins

I am finding media management in prelude a real pain.
After ingesting my H264 head cam material, I often need to sort and move the rushes into appropriate bins.
I find this takes ages with with Prelude CC 3.1 why?
I also have to often start new (monthly) projects because of the long delay opening old (large) projects.
Is there a way to open project without it taking ages looking for all of the media therein referenced?
As I have many projects for this year, how can I do a search through several? Is there any way of combining or referencing other projects, or having 2 open at a time to move clips between?

Should be a simple enough task but, how do I move clips made in one project to another project?

clip media is not conained within a project per se, rather it is referenced by a project, so as long as the media is on the hard disc then it can be referenced by as many projects as you'd like.
you can open multiple projects simultaneously ... then to move clips between the projects you can just drag and drop between the various projects' bins, or copy and paste if you prefer.

Move clips between computers

I have a desktop and laptop, and wish to be able to move clips and projects between the machines as i work on them.
Ideally i would like ot have them on my NAS but really struggling with the interface, i cannot even find a way to export anything unless its a project.
Problem is iwhile i am away i download to my laptop, but want to work on the projects on my desktop.
I am using version 10.0.1, which is confusing as i believe its the latest version but there is much on here about imovie 11!

The phrasing of your last sentence suggests you did not install FCE from a DVD. If you didn't it is highly likely that it is incorrectly installed.
If this is so, run http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm to completely remove all traces before reinstalling properly.

Import Movie clips between iPhoto libraries.

I need to import iPhoto movie clips from one iPhoto library to another. I was successful to share the library and import the photos but the movie clips taken with my iPhone do not show up to import. Please help.

There is no way to share movie clips.
Either export them to the Finder and then import them to the other Library or use iPhoto Library Manager

Can't move clip to bin

I created a new bin in FCE, but when I try to drag a clip into it the clip doesn't move. Did I turn something off?

I think the solution is to first move the clip to the browser (not to a bin) and from there to the bin where you want it.

Premiere element 12 crashes when I move clips between video 1 and 2

What operating system are you using? What processor does your computer have, how much RAM do you have and how much free, clean space is on your hard drive? When did you last run Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter?
Have you ensured that you have the latest version of Quicktime from Apple.com?
What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?
When you add the video to your timeline in Expert view, is there a yellow orange line along the top of the timeline, above your clips? This would indicate a mismatch between the program's project settings and your video specs?

Close iMovie '08. At the "Finder" level, open the "iMovie Events" folder where you want to store your "new" event and create an new, empty folder with the name you wish to call the event. When finished, re-open iMovie '08. After it scans your drives, the new event folder name show up in your "Event Library" list as an empty event. At this time select the source "Event" so you can see the clips you wish to move. Simply drag these files from the source event and drop them on the name if the event to which you wish to move them. Using this process, iMovie '08 should internally update all required pointers as needed.

Cannot move iPhoto between external drives ?

Hi,
I have been having problems getting my WD 500 GB to mount to desktop. I have bought a new WD 2 TB drive. Recently the 500GB drive did mount and I can see my iPhoto library. I have tried to drag and drop to the 2TB drive and also copy and paste but after copying 198 GB of 252 GB library I get an error message as folllows :
If you cant see image it reads ' You cannot copy "iphoto library" to the destination because its name is the same as the name of an item on the destination , except for soem characters"'
I have tried this numerous times but do not want to reboot and loose the 500GB disc again. Also I was able to drag and drop a copy of another file to teh 2TB disc and I have currently opened iPhoto and I am copying the 'originals' folder to the 2TB drive. Will see soon if that works.
Any help appreciated as I need to secure my library and get it off teh 500GB drive.

If the copy fills the drive so you have less than about 3-5 GB available I'd forego that because it could severely cripple an already struggling hard drive.
What you might try is to create a folder on the EHD and name it iPhoto Library 2. Then open your library on the boot drive with the finder like this:
and then start dragging the various components (files and folders) over to the other library. This may get your library copied to the EHD or let you narrow it down to the file that's causing the problem.
If you are able to copy all of the contents to the folder on the EHD it should convert to an iPhoto library when you launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select it to open.

Dragging clips to bins is very slow in Premiere CS6

I just upgraded to Premiere CS6 from CS 5.5 (no thank you, CC) and have problems with very slow speed when dragging clips from one bin to another in the Project panel. Here are the specifics:
I have about 1500 clips in a bin that I'm sorting through in the Project panel, putting clips into other bins as I classify them. If I have the 1500 clips sorted by the Name field, there's no delay as I move a clip or clips from the big bin to one of the smaller bins. If, however, I sort the 1500 clips by Media File Path in the Project panel (which puts the clips in chronological order because the file names reflect date and time), then doing the same work results in an 8-second delay every time I try to move a clip between bins.
I get the 8-second delay each and every time I drag a clip between bins. It occurs whether I select a single clip to drag or drag multiple clips. As soon as I sort in the panel by Name field instead of the Media File Path field, dragging has no delay.
I have no such trouble with delays in CS5.5, so I'm at a loss. I need to have the bin sorted by Media File Path, because I need them in chronological order as I evaluate them. But an 8-second delay each time I move a clip bogs me down so much it's impractical to get any sorting done.
I suspect this is a bug. I've upgraded to CS6.05, but that didn't fix it. Does anyone have a workaround?

A good suggestion. I did try that earlier, but alas, no luck.
Sorting works across all bins in the Project panel, so once you sort on the Media File Path, drags are slow from all bins, even if you segment into bins as small as two clips.
Premiere is doing something bad with sorts after CS5.5. Looks like Adobe fell down on regression testing for the updated version. Then again, it's got to be hard to regression test as many features as Premiere has.

Moving clips between projects, without rendering them

Is this possible? I work on a Macbook Pro, using CS4 production premium. How can I move clips between projects in PP CS4?
I KNOW there's a way. Just can't figure it out.

The easiest, IMO, is to Open your source Project and remove everything that will not be needed. Do a Save_As. Import that Save_As Project into your new one. Be sure to then twirl open the Bins, and Dbl-click on the Save_As Project's Timeline.

PS I also go to Project and choose Delete Unused (or similar syntax) to clean things up for the Save_As.

Moving clips between events

In the FCPX manual, it states that you can move clips between events by just clicking and dragging a clip from one event to another. It also says that doing the same thing with the option key down will copy clips to the other event.
However, I've noticed that dragging a clip to another event just makes a copy of the clip. It's kinda annoying. Any workaround?

I'm seeing odd behaviour with this too.
Imported a tape which contained 3 separate days footage of different activities.
These were imported to my Movies folder in Home directory.
I created 2 new events and tried moving the content as per manual instructions for content on same drive but I only ended up with copies or a freeze due to a non-updating background activity (the file transfer).
Ended up with multiple copies of the same clips in different events on the same drive, some events listing the clips several times but only a single physical clip when viewed in Finder.
I managed to move a single clip successfully but for the life of me not sure why that worked - maybe because it was a single clip not a group?
This is very disconcerting behaviour when you're trying to organise content.

avoid scenes - they are only for timeline management inside

Seamless transitions between externally loaded movie clips

I'm building a flash player that loads various movie clips in succession depending on user input. The player should continue to play seamlessly when one clip ends and another starts playing, however there is always a slight noticeable delay between the COMPLETE event for one clip and the actual playing of the next clip. I am using the FLVPlayback component to load the video clips, with successive clips loaded in different players in the component.
I've tried playing the next video a short duration before the current video finishes by adding a cue point just before the end of the currently running clip (about 200 - 300 ms before the end). This improves matters somewhat, but it is not a reliable method as the timings are different for different browsers and computer specs.
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with smooth transitions between external video clips and could suggest possible optimizations I could use to improve the transitions.

The video clips basically continues the same shot only with different directions, so I can't fade out between transitions. It needs to appear as though it's playing a single video clip in that respect (a one-shot scene).
Another major issue is that there is music playing for each video which should continue playing without interuptions. Even a small gap is noticeable with audio. I thought about separating the audio and video streams but that could mean they could go out of sync as the more transitions occur.

What is the difference between the two symbols: graphic and movie clips? They both contain frames..?

movie clips can have
instance names : so they can be controlled via actionscript
filters applied : drop shadow, glow, blur, color adjust etc
blend modes applied : difference, screen, lighten, darken, etc.

the only real practical reason to use a graphic is the reason jdehaan stated. a graphics internal animation can be scrubbed via the main timeline. graphics will only advance when the main timeline advances. when the main timeline stops.. graphics stops.
movieclips on the otherhand are said to run independent of the main timeline. so you can have a MAIN timeline with one frame only and the movieclip's interior animation will run constantly.
also via the properties panel you can tell a graphic to stay stuck on a certain frame or loop a set number of times.
always use movieclips unless you have a reason not too. as kglad said it will save you and others a lot of hurt in the future.
