Cannot move email to trash

Another glitch in the Mail feature of my new iPhone5. When I click on the trash can to send an email from my Inbox to trash, I get a popup that says: "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." And the email stays in the Inbox. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Are you hitting edit then checking the email your wanting to move to trash, then click move and hit trash?

Delete the email account then re-add and it works again.

  • Unable to move email to trash on iphone!

Everytime I attempt to delete email, I receive the message that I cannot move them to trash. Any suggestions? This started happening after I upgraded to 2.2.

I found others who have this problem. It has to do with 2.2 messing with the Trash folder. The solution others have posted and is working so far with me is to go to settings, choose the account, go to advanced, go to deleted mail, then if it is a POP account, retap the on my iPhone button. I tapped somewhere else and then retapped the on my iPhone button just to be sure. Then erasing worked. If it is something called iMap which is guess is more corporate email systems, then retapping On the Server will reset it.

  • No longer asks if I want to delete photos on camera. I cannot move photos to trash. how do I delete them?

no longer asks if I want to delete photos on camera. I cannot move photos to trash. how do I delete them?

it is rrecommended that you never have iPhoto delete your photos - import them and be sure they are safely in iPhoto and then after one (or more) backup cycles use the camera's format command to reformat the memorycard and delete the photos
As to the lack of being ask
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

    @stlarxh
I have already got installed gvfs. Interesting thing is that the Trash folder under ~/.local/share/Trash
    have the following permission:
    drwx------ 4 root root 4096 Feb 27 21:57 Trash
On Ubuntu it has this permissions:
    drwx------ 5 saso 1000 4096 Sep 20 10:19 Trash
If i change permission from root to my username i can't delete files at all. Has this got something with group 1000? How can i add group 1000?
    @emk
    my fstab:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
    /dev/sda3 / ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda1 /media/Razno ext4 users,auto,errors=remount-ro 0 1
    /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda3 is ArchLinux, /dev/sda1 is a custom partition.

  • I can't move emails to trash...I read comments

I can't move emails to trash...instructions on support say go to "advanced"--my ipad doesn't have any advanced on it?

Where are you looking for it ? If you go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the email account on the right-hand side of that screen, and then tap the Account line (with your email account name and an arrow to the right of it) at the top of the that screen. Then tap Advanced at the bottom of the next screen, then Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

  • Why won't it move emails to trash?

I'm trying to delete emails in iOS7 on my iPad, but keep getting message that it cannot move to trash, so they stay in my inbox.
    Why?

There are a few things that you could try to fix it :
First try closing the Mail app via the multitasking bar and see if you can delete emails after you re-open the app :
iOS 7 : double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the Mail app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
iOS 6 and below : from the home screen (i.e. not with Mai 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If the above doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
A third thing to try is to go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

  • I cannot remove email to trash

on my iPad 2 when I try to delet email I get a message that the email cannot be moved to trash. I have gone thru mail, contacts, calendar to advance to the path prefix setting , added INBOX . rebooted still cannot remove email

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the iPad’s multitasking bar and do a soft-reset. To close Mail (assuming that you iPad is on iOS 8) : double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Mail app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
Soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If that doesn't fix it either try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  • Cannot move mail to trash

iPad stopped receiving mail after IOS6 upgrade. Deleted accout, added it back.  Can now get mail, just cannot put in the trash and delete.  Help!

It's worked for me (I've been having this problem too)...
    Go to Settings
    ... Mail
.... "Click" to choose your IMAP account
... Scroll down and click "Advanced"
... Under "Mailbox Behaviors" click "Deleted Mailbox"
... Scroll down to the bottom, under "On the Server", and click "Trash"
... Get back to the main Account info box by clicking the " <Advanced " text/choice at the top left -- twice
    ... And click "Done".
Worked for me after annoyingly not being able to figure it out for over a year :-/
    Hope this helps!
Happy New Year!! (Especially happy if it does help :)
