Cannot move file onto microSD card

Hey all,
Having a problem with a client's Pantech Impact phone. She has a microSD card that goes with it. We plug it in to try to put some songs on it and it will not allow any files to be dragged and dropped onto it.
In terminal it lists as readable/writeable/executable but when you cmd-i info it, it gives no permissions options. I logged in as Root with the same results.
it's currently formatted as FAT32, which should be fine (I initially thought it may be NTFS), but it says in the device profile that it's only readable.
I do not want to format the card in the computer because it appears to depend upon the current file structure to sort things and she's taken several pics that are now stored on the phone.
Why is only the phone allowed to write to this disk? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

no, the user manual says to transfer the music to the music folder on the card. it has to be AAC or MP3 format, but I've tried every music file type under the sun and it's a global problem with the card.
i'm completely stumped. so are all my genius buddies. no clue...

  • Locked Windows/Folder, Cannot Move Files On External Hard Drive

I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on an iMac and am the only user, and therefore, administrator. I'm encountering a weird, albeit small, problem on one of my external hard drives (Seagate 320 gigs): I have boatloads of video files stored on the drive, but suddenly cannot move files into folders within the drive (I see a white "do not enter" kind of a sign over whatever icon I try to move). I can't move these files off the drive and onto my iMac's internal hard drive, either. I can only delete them. I can add new files to the drive, but then cannot move those either (can only delete them).
The folders and drive are not locked, I have read & write access, etc., so there doesn't seem to be any reason for me to be barred from moving items. Any clues? Many thanks.

Thank you for your reply and kind welcome.
That's a great tip, but that box was already checked, so I'm afraid that wasn't a solution. The problem ended up "solving itself" after I left my machine off for the day while I went to work. I may never know why that error occurred, but I certainly don't care, as long as it doesn't happen again. Take care.

  • Cannot move files into folders on desktop

Hi, I cannot move files into folders on desktop.  They won't go in when I grab them and drag them to a folder.

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or restarting the computer. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder  or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the  Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
Back up all data before continuing.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo Desktop
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign ($). Quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder.
If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

  • [SOLVED] Cannot move file to trash

    Hi
When i try to delete files they are deleted but they do not appear in trash bin. So when i click on "Move to trash" the pop up window appear and say:
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?
    What am i doing wrong?

    @stlarxh
I have already got installed gvfs. Interesting thing is that the Trash folder under ~/.local/share/Trash
    have the following permission:
    drwx------ 4 root root 4096 Feb 27 21:57 Trash
On Ubuntu it has this permissions:
    drwx------ 5 saso 1000 4096 Sep 20 10:19 Trash
If i change permission from root to my username i can't delete files at all. Has this got something with group 1000? How can i add group 1000?
    @emk
    my fstab:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    devpts /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
    /dev/sda3 / ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda1 /media/Razno ext4 users,auto,errors=remount-ro 0 1
    /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda3 is ArchLinux, /dev/sda1 is a custom partition.

By that, I assume you mean Mass Storage Mode? To my understanding, there is nothing within the Desktop Software itself for copying files in this manner. Only via Mass Storage Mode are you able to manage your BB as a USB drive.
    aliozturk wrote:
it says permission denied, This file cannot copied. it may be locked or read-only.
when i open properties of the folder where i copied files to, read-only option is checked but i cannot uncheck it.
Do you have content protection and/or encryption enabled on your Media Card?
Exactly what is the file you wish to copy/move?
Can you copy it somewhere else...e.g., to your PC?

  • Import MTS files from microsd card

I have connected a MicroSD card using a usb cable and want to import the MTS files that were creted from a Canon HD camera. When i go to Volumes/Path/To/MTS and click on a file it gives me the error:"Unable to open Quicktime movie - /var/tmp/fcxvrldsd.53/task_copy_cached_uploadEQUFqz: The file is not a movie file." but when i go to the Stream folder /Volumes/NAMEOFDEVICE/Private/AVCHD/ and hit create bundle asset. it starts but never actually progresses.
I heard you need to import directly from the microsd for MTS files but after trying, i am still not sure how to do it.
    Thanks!

MTS files will not be opened directly by Quicktime or Compressor.
If these are from an AVCHD camcorder, use Final Cut Pro to Log & Transfer the clips into Quicktime Movies before Final Cut Server catalogs them.

  • Getting a general error message in FCE when putting .mov file onto timeline

Putting a .mov film onto the timeline above a moving image so we see the mov file playing in a reduced size in the background of whats going on ( a window). Don't know why this is happening but any advice would be appreciated!
We are really stuck so any help would be so appreciated!
    thanks.

Its converted to an mpeg4 file but i think it may be the fact it is running at 30fps as oppose to the rest of the project which is 25fps. When I try to put it on the timeline it gives me the general error and then the footage which was on below it on timeline no longer exists. Very strange.

  • Error code -32731 pops up when I try to move files onto LaCie External HD.

I have a Macbook Air 2014 with i7 and 8gb ram. I have around 20gb left on the internal hard drive.
My current OS is Yosemite, 10.10.2.
I'm unable to paste/move files to my external hard drive and am instead presented with error code -32731. The exact message reads:
"The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -32731)."
Related, it seems as if I can't download files directly to the hard drive. In many ways it seems as if I can't write to the drive at all. However, I have those permissions when looking at info.
Any ideas? Thank you very much.

  • Cannot Move Files/Folders on Desktop

One of the Mac Pros in my computer lab suddenly developed a strange behavior: I can't move any of the file or folder icons on the desktop, nor can I drag files/folders between windows or columns. They don't snap back to their original position; they won't move at all.
I can select the icons on the desktop and in windows, but cannot move them. This behavior is the same in my Admin account and a restricted student account.
I've repaired permissions with Disk Utility, and run Onyx (Optimize The System; Execute Maintenance Scripts; Clear: Application, Internet, Font and System Cache; Clean Recent and Temporary Items). I've relaunched the Finder several times, and zapped the PRAM. Restarting doesn't help.
    Anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Robert

I'm unable to start from the Install disk; I get the "Black Veil of Death" every time (You Need To Restart Your Machine...).
Oh, well this is very much more serious than a permissions problem. I would tell you to Repair your disk, but
I can Safe Boot and choose either account. Except for the non-moving icons, the machine seems to run fine.
A Safe Boot automatically runs Repair Disk as many times as needed to fix things. Trying to start from the Install disc gives you a kernel panic, and yet you are able to Safe Boot? I don't know what could cause this.
After a Safe Boot, and in my Admin account, can I affect the changes you suggest when starting from the Install disk?
Well, not by the method I initially suggested, but you can using Terminal. But I see no point in doing that—you really need to fix the kernel panics.
However, as a temporary thing, try this.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
    chmod -R -N .
chmod +a "everyone deny delete" . Desktop Documents Downloads Library Movies Music Pictures Public Sites
    chmod +a "`id -un` allow list,addfile,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directoryinherit" Public/Drop Box
That will fix things for the account you have logged in with. If you need to fix the other one, you must repeat while logged in to that account

  • How do I move files onto a G4 with OSX 10.3.9?

    Brethren,
I just gave my G4 Quicksilver to my fiancee and she is having trouble moving her laptop files onto it. She has a bunch of MP3's (songs you'd puke if you had to listen to) and jpegs (billions of them) but no streamlined way of moving the data...since the G4 Quicksilver doesn't have Migration Assistant. So, to summarize:
*origin computer: iBook G4 OSX 10.4.11*
*destination computer: G4 Quicksilver OSX 10.3.9*
I'm hesitant to shell out $116 for the Leopard upgrade but *is there any other way to move the data from laptop to desktop?*
    Shank

Connect the computers with a FireWire cable, start up the iBook with the T key held down, and move the files over manually.

  • SharePoint online - "open in Explorer" - cannot move file to subfolder - access denied.

    Windows 8.1, office 365 64bit.
It is suggested that webdav is not compatible with 64 Bit office.
see "Although I haven’t tested, my understanding is WebDEV doesn’t work for 64-bit Office 2013 edition."  (social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/newthread?category=sharepoint&forum=sharepointgeneral&prof=required)
Can someone confirm this or provide a definitive fix to the problem below?
    Problem:
Using SharePoint online I browse to a Library then click "Open library in Windows Exporer."
Using  internet explorer I can create a file but cannot move that file to a subfolder  -> "Error 0x800700E0 - Access Denied".
The screen grab below shows error returned when attempting to move test9.txt to the CHANGE REQUEST folder.
(On my Windows 7, Office 2010 laptop I can move the file - no error).
I have googled this and completed many suggested fixes (check stay logged-in, add to trusted sites, ensure weblcient service is running, edited registry etc.

    Hi,
I tested the same scenario per your post, and my environment is windows 8.1 with 64-bit Office 2013 installed.
When I accessed the SharePoint Online site library with Open with Explorer for the first time, the same error occurred when moving documents to a subfolder.
Then when I add the site to the trusted site in Internet Explorer(IE), then re-open the site in IE. And then open the library with Open with Explorer, the issue did not occur when moving documents to a subfolder.
Please make sure that the sites are added to the trusted sites in IE.
And please also check if the account has permission to move the files to subfolder in SharePoint library.
    Thanks,
    Victoria
