Cannot move or delete slide show...

I have a slide show that iPhoto will not let me move or delete. The icon for the slide show is in the source menu on the left, just above the trash, and I am unable to drag it into a folder or even delete it. The actual slide show will open and play fine, its just stuck there.
Has anyone encountered this? Thanks for the help.

Have you deleted images from the library that were in this slideshow, or once in that slideshow? Empty iPhoto's trash bin and see if it might help.
If not, maybe a library rebuild would help.
Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
Close iPhoto
Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

Can't delete slide show from catalog in PSE 6

I am a fairly new user of PSE working in a Windows Vista environment. When I right click on the thumbnail of an unwanted slideshow in PSE 6
and select "Delete from Catalog" I get the message "An error occurred while reading files or writing files to disk. The disk may be full or there may be a problem with the source media". My disk is NOT full. The same thing happens when I try to do a full backup of my catalog. It seems to complete the backup, but then gives me the same error message.
Also, I cannot go in and edit a slide show and then save it - the "SAVE" option is grayed out and I am forced to use the "SAVE AS" and save it under a different name thus creating a duplicate.
I am VERY FRUSTRATED as I have spent much valuable time creating these slide shows. Can anyone help???

I didn't use it because of comments I've read by developers who've had problems with the Linked function. You don't need to select the Linked function to edit an imported slide in Captivate, though, do you? I thought unlinked slides were imported into the project library, and that you can edit them there. Have I misunderstood how this works?

Inbox reloads, cannot move or delete messages

I'm on a Macbook Air, OS X 10.9.4, using Thunderbird. Previously used Mail, switched in hopes of solving this problem (didn't work). Email is IMAP.
Every few minutes, my inbox will completely refresh and re-download all messages. Many of the actions I had taken will not be reflected - some messages will be marked read, but not all, for example.
I cannot move anything out of my inbox. If I delete, archive, or otherwise move a message, it will appear both in the new folder and again in the inbox, the next time the inbox reloads. If I delete an email five times over the course of the morning, there will be five copies in the trash and one still in the inbox.
As far as I know, I am able to send and receive email without issue.
I was previously using Mail and had a similar experience, though in Mail, all inbox messages would disappear and I had to rebuild or quit/open Mail to get the inbox to reappear. In Thunderbird, it is refreshing on its own.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

I created a slide show on work computer. Placed photos and movies in Media Browser. Want to use another computer (laptop) to give presentation. Do I need to copy media browser to laptop or are pictures and movies embedded in slide show and can go anywhere

Do I need to copy the media browser to the laptop or once the pictures and movies are embedded in the original slide show, can I take it anywhere and not worry about the media browser?
I also want to optimize a movie for Keynote, so it's not too large a file. Please help.

Graphic, sound and video files are copied into the Keynote file, but make sure Keynote > Preferences - include sound and movies check box is ticked.
If you have added additional fonts they will need be changed to reflect what is on the destination machine.
If the other machine has a different Keynote version, ensure the same transitions and effects are available.

Need help - creating QT movies from iPhoto slide shows

I am creating QT movies from slideshows in iPhoto. I then put the QT movies on a CD. I am having no trouble doing this, but if I give the CD to a Windows user, will she be able to view it? If not, is there any way to make it Windows compatible? Are there any other problems I should be aware of before I give these QT movies for Christmas gifts?

Any PC user that has QuickTime 5, or higher, installed will be able to view your iPhoto slide show movies on the CD.
You must use the Finder to guarantee a PC compatible CD, however.

To remove from Apple TV:
iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Choose photos, uncheck what you don't want and apply.
To remove from iPhone:
Connect to iTunes, then select the device in the devices list, navigate to the photos tab and uncheck the photos you don't want, then sync/apply.

I moved some time machine back-ups to the trash and I cannot move or delete them?

The answer depends on exactly what you did to delete the files.
In general, it is not advisable to delete Time Machine backups using the Finder. Time Machine works in conjunction with Spotlight to organize Time Machine backups. Deleting files required Spotlight to work overtime, and it is possible that this action corrupted its database.
If this happened, it is fixable.

Working in Pages a folder with the Pages icon in a folder appeared on my desktop I cannot move it delete it do anything to it. Any idea what it might be? Thank you.

While working in Pages a folder appeared on my desktop with the Pages icon on it. I don't know how it got there. It will not let me move it on the desktop. I will not let me delete it. It will not let me do anything to it. Any idea what I might have done to create this alien?

Restart Finder by pressing option + command + Esc. Select Finder int he window that pops up and click on the Start/restart button.
You could also try deleting the com.apple.finder.plist file from Users > your name > Library > Preferences
Restarting the computer in safe mode , press the Shift key just after you heard the start chime. Keep it pressed until you see the grey apple. See if the folder is gone or can be moved.

Cannot move endpoint of slide

for some reason, using captivate 2, when I try to use the
slider to resize some elements on the timeline, such as a text
caption and the overall length of the slide, the sliders will not
move. I'm getting the correct cursor, indicating I can resize, but
it simply doesn't move. What is going on here? I could do it
before, I really really don't want to have to edit all of the times
by hand in the properties menu.

Actually, this is commonly seen, and drives a lot of users
"nutso". And while I grant it is a real problem, I offer the
suggestion that there is also a real fix for it.
When moving an objects' position on the timeline or changing
its duration, I think you'll find it beneficial to get in the habit
of using the mouse (
only) to "select" the object (and be careful to select only
the object(s) you want to manipulate) ...
and then do the actual manipulations using the keyboard.
Specifically:
UP or DOWN (ARROWS): Move focus up or down in the stacking
order.
RIGHT or LEFT (ARROWS): Move selected object right or left in
time of timeline.
SHIFT+RIGHT or LEFT (ARROWS): The
shift key will "tack" the left (starting) position of the
object, while the
right or
left arrow keys will adjust the object's time-of-display to
a longer or shorter period.
Learning (training myself) to think "keyboard, keyboard,
keyboard" for changing stacking order or other "time-related"
properties was the hard part. Once I got used to thinking and doing
things this way, all the work went out of these tasks.
P.S. Though he didn't know it (and still doesn't until he
reads this), my thought processes and subsequent decision that this
is the
only way to approach these tasks was initiated (by posts on
these forums) by Rick Stone, fellow AdobeCommunityExpert and
Captivate instructor. Thanks, Rick!

Quick Slide show

Hi,
I need some help here defending the honour of Mac against PC.
We visited some (PC using) friends at the weekend taking our camera with us. In order to look at the photos our friend put our memory card into a Card reader and simply opened a (manual) slide show straight from the memory card using "windows photo and fax viewer"
In a couple of weeks we are returning the favour and he has said that he will bring a usb memory stick of photos with him.
Now... In order to view them on my macBook I can only think that I will have to import the photos into my iPhoto library, then move them into slide show, then view them and then delete from iPhoto when we have finished. Yes, I will have music and Ken Burns effects, but it is a lot more involved and time consuming than on the PC.
In order to show how much better my Mac is at handling photos than a PC, there HAS to be a faster, smarter way to just look at photos from a USB memory stick!

Hi there,
If you can open the Memory Stick > highlight all the photos > right click > look for "slideshow" and go... you should see a full screen slidshow start up
If they are simple Jpegs this will work pretty good, a menu bar will appear near the bottom and disappear if you don't need it, simply move mouse and menu bar will reappear. Nice links to index of images, forward and backward buttons etc...

Keynote slide show exported to QT , so what ?

I need to export a slide show created w Keynote 09 as a Flash slideshow..
I exported it easily to QT, so I can view it (click in to change slide but no button to go back..?)
but then there is no more .mov to Flash export .. so I used MPEG Streamclip , but the result is a movie, not a slide show.... how I should proceed ?

Rolling credits in iDVD slide show

I would like to have rolling credits at the end of my iDVD (not iPhoto) slide show, similar to imovie. Not sure how to go about it. Do I need to move the iDVD slide show to iMovie?

Yes, only the only iLife product that can make rolling credits is iMovie.
But consider this- build the slideshow in iPhoto (without rolling credits or sound) use "Send to iDVD" to create a QT Movie (just close iDVD) and import the movie into iMovie, add rolling credits, titles, sounds, and then use that movie in iDVD. Ok, it sounds complicated, but it is really efficient compared to building the whole thing in iMovie......
