Cannot not video chat with one specific person
When I attempt to video chat with only one specific person with my macbook pro to their mbp, the audio comes through but the video freezes, lags and is extremely pixelated. We have attempted to connect from various different wi-fi connections, even trying it from the same one in the same house and nothing. When connecting to various other people it works fine. The strangest part is when I use Skype video chat it works fine. What can it possibly be? It drives me nuts!!!

If either of you is using Leopard and iChat 4 then go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming and set the speed to 1.5Mbps and then Restart iChat (this option is not in Snow Leopard)
In all cases go to iChat menu > Preferences > Video section and set the Bandwidth Limit to 600kbps

I have a mac book pro and when I turned on iChat it would not let me video chat with more then one person even though I was able to in the past. It only showed an icon to video chat with one person. Please help!!!! ASAP
Hi,
Check the iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth setting.
iChat needs to see a Minimum of 128kbps to do 1-1 chats in Video
For 3 and 4 way chats it needs 384kbps
Set the Bandwidth to 500kbps if it is set lower.
Also check the speed you are getting from your Internet supplier.

I am not able to text one specific person on my iphone 4. They an sporadically send but she is not recieving my message. I have read several forums and tried several things.. resetting etc... to no avail.. someone mentioned this may be the network. can anyone help? the phone also say it is ready to install update to ios 7.0.6 which provides a fix for ssl connection verification. then it indicates cannot be installd bcause it requires at least 3.7 GB of storage. So i have deleted some things and pretty sure I have enough GB but still reading the same message. OMGosh .. so frustrated.. especially wtih the texting.

Can't Video Chat with one person
Well i've been scanning this forum, and many others all day, trying to get Video and audio on ichat to work. Both me and my girlfriend have new macbooks, (mine is just over 6 months old, her's is 3 days old) we both have dlink routers mine is quite old its a DI-524 and i've configured all the ports using the guide on the dlink website (http://support.dlink.ca/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1333&question=ichat) and i've downloaded the latest firmware. Her router is brand new. We've both tried the apple testing servers on ichat, and can start a video chat with all 3, but can't have one with each other, we just get an error 8. I just would like to know what is stopping us from doing it with each other, but allowing us to use the testing servers, and if there's anything i can do.
(my streaming speed on quicktime has been set, and the speed on ichat is unlimited)
If you'd like the error report i can post it if u ask.

Skype messages do not show up with one specific pe...
When I send a message, the scroll bar on the right jumps back to halfway the chat, and every message from the other person gets a little orange bubble as if they just sent it to me. When the other person says something to me, it simply won't show up at all. (the messages that get the orange bubble are from back when the chat still worked)
I do want to make clear this only happens with ONE person. With every other friend the chat works as expected. Also, this problem started in the middle of a chat conversation. Not when I launched Skype or when played around with settings or anything. It happened out of nowhere.

If you have exchanged messages with this user when your computer's time was wrong, then the timestamp of these messages remains wrong. To fix this issue you will either have to clear all chat history or to try to correct the wrong timestamp.

I can not video chat with my Iphone4 with other 3g phones
Hello everybody,
My cousin has another brand phone. It's a low-priced one and he can do videochat over 3g network with other brand phones. (Please don't interfere with Iphone3g)
With my iphone 4, I can not videochat with him! His phone doesn't have wifi. So we can not do facetime, or skype conference (As far as I know)
Can I do videochat with him without any additional application over 3g network? That's a big issue for me now.Thanks for the answer, but do we have a built in program for this? I don't know if he even can use skype with his phone. he has built in program, he doesn't need to install anything to do that videochat.

IPhone won't receive emails from one specific person
My iPhone 4S will not receive emails from one specific person.
It sends and receives emails from anyone else ok, I can send emails to this person with out problem, but it will not receive them.
If I check my webmail it is there, but it won't download to my phone? If I forward their email to myself from the web the forwarded one will be there, but not their original?
I receive emails from others in the organisation ok. And it used to receive them all ok, on about December 27th it stopped?
Anyone have any ideas on why this has happened and what I can do to fix it.

Why can I video chat with everyone on my list- Except for one person?
Recently, my friend and I have been having problems video chatting with each other. A couple of months ago, we were able to screen share, voice chat, and video chat just fine. I can, and she can too, do all those things with all of our other iChat contacts. Except when we try to do anything with each other, it says "A problem has occurred with iChat". We've tried it multiple times on different computers, internet connections, etc., but it never seems to work. Is there a way that my friend and I can start to video chat and screen share again? This problem has just come out of the blue, and it is really bugging us.

Have either of you changed a Router at all ?
I have some info dating back to iChat 3 listed here
As time and iChat has progressed so has our understanding of NAT (Network Address Translation)
In some cases the way the Device that does the routing at each end does NAT means you cannot get a video connection.
If it was working and now doesn't it suggests something changed.
As changing setting would more likely effect every Buddy at one end it looks more like a hardware issue (at least in terms of the devices functionality)
Make, model and version numbers of any routers may help identify something specific.

Hi,
There can be several reasons.
1) They have their Mic Off.
In iChat > Video Menu the Microphone Enabled (or Audio Chat Enabled in Lion) needs to be ticked.
2) the System Preferences > Sound > Input tab Volume is not high enough ?
Slide it to the right (their end)
2a) the Mic selected here is not the one select in iChat > Preferences > Video section > Microphone drop down.
3) there is an issue with the speed differences in the internet services you both have.
If they are fast and sending lots of data and your end cannot buffer fast enough frame get dropped to smooth out video. There comes a point when the audio can no longer keep in sync and is dropped as well.
In iChat menu > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit set 500kbps at both ends
This also smooths out ISP variances.
4) after that it tends to be combos of things such as Processors involved, the Speed of those Processors and the speed or bandwidth available to the computers involved.

Not able to video chat with any one
i have tried to video chat with 3 different people that own macbooks that we all just got. we cannot connect. i opened my ports in the mac firewall. and changed the port in i chat to 443. i have tested it with the bots and they opened fine and i saw the video and heard the sound from the apple iphone. when i try to do it with a person it will not connect. we are all using ichat av and all have an buitl in camera. when i go to connection doctor under video it says chat ended with error 8....

I can not text to one specific person. Everything else works fine.
I am looking in other post, some others have the same problem but I haven't seen any solutions! I have try everything it has been suggested to others like delete the contact etc. but nothing . I can not sent text msg to this person.

One-way video chat with iSight on Mac to PC via AIM
I recently bought an iSight camera for my powerbook G4. I am having trouble getting a video chat connected to my friend who is using AIM 5.5 on his PC. I am using AIM 4.7 for macintosh. Are there any tips on getting a one way video chat started?? he doesn not have a webcam

Your PC pal should upgrade to the current AIM 5.9. If fixes some of 5.5's problems.
AIM for Mac has no video (or audio) capability). More info in the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ.

The requirements for one-way video are the same as for two-way video except for one camera.
One-way video between an iSight-equipped Mac and a correctly configured PC is possible for most users. However, some users report that they can just NEVER get it to work. We do not know why that is. Adding any compatible USB webcam to the PC system (and "tuning" correctly after the addition) should let you make video connections if you are one who cannot make it work without a camera. -
Person I'm in video chat with can't hear me.
Whenever I do video chat on Ichat with my lady friend, she can't hear me, but can see me. I can hear her and see her. When we get on Skype it works for both of us. Her skype is not working right now. So I was wondering if there was something I can fix in IChat. When I'm logged into IChat and click the video button on my buddy list It shows levels for when I make noise.

Start with going to System Preferences > Sound > Input tab
The Volume here should be set for the Device used in iChat and move the blue response bar to about 3/4s (over half can be OK but don't let it hit the right hand end either)
Double check that the Mic in iChat > Preferences > Video/Audio Section is the same one as in System Preferences.
Double check the Video Menu.
The Microphone Enabled item should be ticked (selecting it toggle it either On or Off opposite to it's current state).
If these seem to be OK then both ends should go to iChat > Preferences > Video/Audio Section and change the Bandwidth to 500kbps
If Internet Speed/Bandwidth is an Issue then the first thing that may "go" is the Audio.
The Video or moving pics bit at least take s up the most.
iChat 5 almost always sends 20-30 frames a sec of a Pic that is 0.3 Megapixels at a time.This can take up a lot of bandwidth.
One clue may be if you can Audio Only chat.
If It works then it is most likely how much data can be sent/Received.
If you cannot do Video Chats either it will be the Audio Settings of Mic Choice

I am having the odd problem of being able to video chat with someone when they are using their pc running aim, but I cant chat with the same person when he on his Mac!
I am running as DMZ behind a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
The problem is on my side because I cant chat with the test accounts either.
I tried this after bothe forwarding and triggering all the ports that were suggested.

This is going to be down to the Staelite connection.
It has what is called latency.
This adds an unexceptable delay in the passing of data at the start of the connection.
Very few people have reported success.
The things you can try are to fool the link into passing more intense data prior to starting a chat.
If you have web pages try uploading a Pic of larger file to the site.
Just as this finishes start up iChat
You should also check that System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab has the speed to match you download set.
Hopefully (But no reported success) you may get iChat to see more bandwidth as you have just had the modem busy.
Following the launch of iChat with a video chat request may be able to get that bandwidth.
Realistically the 128 k upload even if you were getting close to it is very tight to the lowest point Apple say will work.
Speed testing a 128 k service i likely to get a result of about 80% of the figure (102k) iChat will use about 80 % of what is left (you are down to about 83K). You are now below the 100k min.
With regards to your LAN there are several things that may help if not set up already.
Only have one device doing DHCP. The way routers work as compared to modems is that they pass all routing data though to the computers.
This means the computers can be sitting in two subnets (1) from Modem to computer via router and (2) from Router. The computer can only display one of these IP addresses but can get confuse info regarding iChat.
Do not use Port Forwarding or Port triggering, twice or together on the LAN. iCHAT does not like two lots of NAT (bath are forms of Network Address Translation [NAT]).
Use UPnP where you can.
IF you are trying to test this yur Mac to your PC you ahve to allow for the fact that the modem is handling two Video chats in effect. This means you need twice the minimum bandwidth (let alone the fact that ichat to AIM semms to like 50% more than Mac to Mac contacts.
