Cannot open a HyperTerminal session

Hi all -
I can communicate with my device through HyperTerminal just fine.  I would like to do this through LabVIEW.  I have looked at several examples around the forum.  One said to wire "C:\Program Files\Windows NT\hypertrm.exe /t COM6" to System Exec.vi.  This successfully opens HyperTerminal, but then I get an error in HyperTerminal "Unable to connect to COM6 port 23."
Any ideas what is going on here?  I attached an image of what I described.
Thanks in advance!

Dennis - Good questions... no, I confirmed that the session wasn't open by toggling the power, removing USB, closing VISA in LabVIEW, closing hyperterminal, and closing LabVIEW examples.  I don't know if that actually closed it but I don't know what else to do... and I am not using LabVIEW to connect to the port mostly because everything I tried in that department hasn't worked thus far.  I have seen that HyperTerminal isn't really good with LabVIEW, but at least at this point I can communicate with the device using HyperTerminal.
smercurio - Ideally, I would like to only use LabVIEW, but right now only HyperTerminal is working.  The device came with a driver which I installed.  I'm pretty sure I couldn't even talk thru HyperTerminal if I didn't install that, right?  Hyper2.jpg shows what happens when I try to talk through MAX.  Hyper1.jpg shows that I can communicate with the device through HyperTerminal.  (Note - I disconnected before I took the picture)
Ian - Yes, I checked out that page, and played around with LVTerm.vi.  A lot of what is in LVTerm.vi I have tried.  I think you should look at Hyper2.jpg also.
All -
The device is here: http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=MCLS1
The manual is here: http://www.thorlabs.com/Thorcat/18600/18659-D02.pdf (see page 14 for the commands)
I have a decent amount of LabVIEW experience, so I was surprised that most of the VISA things I tried haven't worked so far.  There is very little software support from ThorLabs (or at least for this product).  I was able to set up a different device (rotating stage made by Zaber) without any difficulty just last week.
Does anyone think it is possible that I can only communicate with the device through HyperTerminal?
Thanks guys, I really do appreciate the help!

  • X crashed, cannot open display in screen session for X apps

I had X crash and logged back in, and now in my screen session I can't open any apps that use X, ie.,:
    ~/.fluxbox # gedit keys
    cannot open display:
Run 'gedit --help' to see a full list of available command line options.
    ~/.fluxbox #
Must I start a new screen to have it work again or can be fixed within current screen? Thanks for any help!

Looks like your DISPLAY variable isn't set? What does
    $ echo $DISPLAY
show? If nothing, try the following in your screen session (you may have to do this for each shell within screen that you're running):
    $ export DISPLAY=":0"
(assuming that it is DISPLAY 0, which is the default)

Since I updated Firefox, I can no longer open more than 1 session at a time. How can I correct the problem?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Since last upgrade

Firefox only runs one session at a time, are you talking about not being able to open a 2nd window?
Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?

  • Cannot open ConsoleKit session

    Hi,
recently I asked already on installing on RAID, now I finally managed to install (without preset Raid but LVM), and I thought the trouble is more or less over, but I thought wrong. I face a bunch of major problems after I installed base, xserver and kdebase; maybe they are related, but I'm not sure. (If not, I can open separate topics)
When I log into KDE I get
Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
What does it mean? Am I missing a package?
By installing the vaio power daemon I avoid a power management error, but I still have no battery reading, can't suspend-to-RAM or -HD. What can I check for?
And last but not least: Automounting doesn't work at all. fdisk shows my disk and I can manually mount it, but I prefer the automount way. This seems to be a problem from the begining. While I boot, external devices get displayed with
[sdc] No Caching mode page present
[sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
I guess this could be connected to the automount, maybe even the systembus. My laptop at home (completely different brand) has more or less the same setup with encryption and external key file, and it finds the flash drive without a problem. udisk is installed, and I can't recall that I ever had to do more to setup a system.
In Ubuntu live CD all this seems to work without a problem (even RAID worked), and even if I get alot of advantages, I would still like to go with arch for variouse reasons. Alone the AUR is worth it!
Btw, the particular laptop is a Sony Vaio Z2. You find a bunch of 'How to install [insert Linux distro] on Z2' on the internet, but even the Arch-HowTo-Version doesn't state any of my problems.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks!
    /André

    Hi,
stupid me. Of course dbus wasn't running. This simple thing fixed nearly everything. Even if Suspend now works and waking up not, but this is a minor problem where I should find a solution somewhere else (otherwise I can repost).
But it still doesn't recognise USB devices at boot, even that I set the usb and usbinputs hook. The error
[sdc] No Caching mode page present
[sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
    still appears!
    /André

    Question
(OS 10.6.8 Imac)I cannot open an adobe file on wels fargo online getting Session-1.cgi could not be open unknown error etc.. on othe browsers it works (safari,Chrome)

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session... Error wheneven I log-in

I get the following message whenever I try to log-in: Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
When I looked it up, a person answered to manually run systemd-machine-id-setup, but I don't know how to do that.
    Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with systemd-machine-id-setup, but I imagine it would just be for systemd.  Are you using systemd? (If you don't know then you are almost certainly not).
Is dbus in your DAEMONS array?

I'm having troble getting gnome running on my system.
    When I'm running gnome-session Im getting (gnome-session:4336): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display.
The exact same setup will allow me to run xfce4 without any problem.
I did manage to start gnome once with gdm, but then nothing but rightclick on the mouse and the desktop icons would work, and after that one time both gdm and gnome wont work.
I just did a base install of arch 0.7, xorg, gnome, nvidia and sound drivers.
Also, if I put exec gnome-session in my .xinitrc file I get a Fatal server error: Requested entity already in use.

the .xinitrc it is executed by the X window system after the X Server is started
if you run gnome-session from a console shell and there is no X server started, it cannot open the display...
the X server is normally started during "startx" or "xinit"

  • Cannot open 2 sessions on same computer

    Hello,
It's me again (I already posted some questions about Mavericks).
Now I discovered that I cannot open 2 sessions on my MacBook Pro. Mavericks does not recognize the password of a second user at login.
So I will have to buy another computer for my wife. Very clever from Apple !
    Eric

Mavericks recognizes multiple user accounts on the same computer just as did Lion and Mountain Lion.  You can switch between user logins without either user logging out.  But, the users have to be setup on the computer.  My wife and I share a MacBook Pro and it works this way just fine (in fact we just had a reason to use the computer this way last night).  Even tasks that don't need the speaker or mic continue processing in the background for the non-active user.

  • Cannot open more than one Firefox session

I am using Windows 7 on a PC. When I installed Firefox 3.6, I found that I could not open more than one session unless I deleted the process in Task Manager. When I reopened Firefox, it immediately said it had installed 6 plug-ins. It would then allow me to open a second Firefox session, but after this I could not open any more sessions. I do not have this problem with IE or Safari.
Why is it installing plug-ins without my asking for them?
Could the plug-in's be causing the problem of not allowing more than one session?
How can I have a clean Firefox program without plug-ins and one that will open any number of sessions like it used to be?

What happens when you right-click a link and use Open Link in New Window?

  • Gnome-session cannot open display

Following Arch Linux wiki alone to install gnome won't work.
I installed xorg and all the packages described on the wiki pages http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg and http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome then I can't start gnome through gnome-session. I can start X though.
It will only work if I install gdm and start gnome through it.
The question is: am I likely to be doing something wrong or the wiki page does need to be updated? What if I didn't want to use GDM, could I somehow set something up to start gnome through gnome-session?

milasch wrote:And finally only if I add exec gnome-session to my ~/.xinitrc gnome will open through startx. gnome-session will lead to the same error.
Does this mean that gnome actually starts when you run startx, but that you tried to run the command gnome-session directly from the commandline and this doesn't start X? In that case, everything is exactly as it's supposed to be...
Gnome requires the X Window System in order to run. The command gnome-session is used to start gnome, but it won't start X - so if you try running gnome-session without a running X-server, it will fail. You are therefore supposed to configure ~/.xinitrc to run the windowmanger of your choice (in this case gnome-session), and use the command startx when you want to launch X and gnome.
