Cannot open a pdf

Hi
I am having problems opening a pdf file in Firefox. I have Firefox v4.0.1. When i attempt to open the file it gives a blank page. I can open the file successfully in Internet Explorer 8. I am using Windows XP Professional. I have had problems with Adobe Plugins in Firefox in the past so i use Foxit Reader to open PDFs. I can open the pdf file successfully in Foxit Reader. I have the Foxit Reader Plug-In for Mozilla 1.0.1.1117 enabled.
thanks

Hi anybody
i'm re-opening this because the original problem is now occurring in Firefox 5.o
i attempt to open a pdf in firefox with the latest Foxit Reader plugin "Foxit Reader Plugin for Mozilla 2.1.1.720". It just hangs Firefox for about a minute and then returns a blank page. If i disable the plugin, it prompts me to choose an app to open the pdf and on selecting Foxit Reader it opens immediately in Foxit Reader - it just won't open in Firefox. It also opens immediately in IE9 and Chrome.
Anyone getting this too or anyone know a solution?

  • Cannot open a PDF within IE9 on Windows 7

    Hello,
I am experiencing an Adobe Reader 10.1 issue with computers running Windows 7 32 bit with IE9. When the user goes to a SharePoint page and tries to open a PDF we see the following error:
"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (1:1)".
There is no other instance of Adobe Reader running. The user accounts that log in are domain user accounts and have user level security access. They can open PDF files that are stored locally on the hard drive but they cannot open any PDF that is listed on a SharePoint page and only see the error message stated above.
I have been looking at different forums. I have tried the suggested fixes but none of them have worked.
I have tried the following things but they did not work:
    Repaired\Reinstalled Adobe Reader
Unchecked the "Display PDF in browser" setting
Made sure "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" was unchecked
Run the SharePoint page in compatability view
On one of the Windows 7 computers I created a local user account. Added it to the local Users group. Logged in and launched IE9 and navigated to the SharePoint page. I clicked on a PDF link and received the same error as stated above. I then moved this new local user account to the Power Users group and performed the same test with the same results. I moved this local user account to the Administrators group and now I am able to view PDF files within the IE9 browser. I tried this with other administrator accounts and all works fine. So it appears to be a security rights issue. I looked at the GPO's and did not notice anything that would cause this issue. Of course, I am not a AD guru so I might have missed something.
I have loosened security rights on several Adobe directories but that did not work.
I need to have domain users with user level security access to be able to view PDFs in the IE9 browser. Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks Jono But I cannot see any option to set Target Version.
the options I have are XDP Preview format and PDF Render Format which are set to Acrobat 7 static PDF form.
I have set a permissions password on the form using Acrobat 8 and under Password security settings , I have set the compatibility as Acrobat 5.0 or later. However, When I look at the form properties by opening the same form in LiveCycle, the compatibility still shows Acrobat 8 static PDF form.
How do I get this form to be opened by users in Adobe 7?
    Appreciate your quick response.

    Hi Gary,
I have seen this issue occur with users who have this registry setting missing or have improper permissions.
When you double click the attachment to launch the pdf it is saved and opened from the temporary folder unless saved specifically to a location.
If you dont have the below mentioned registry key or improper permissions then attachments fail to open.
Please  heck if the following reg key exists:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
    or
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
    Value Name: OutlookSecureTempFolder
If the value exists, and if the value contains a valid path, Outlook 2010 uses that location for its temporary files.
If the registry value does not exist, or if the value points to an invalid location, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2003 creates a new subdirectory under the Temporary Internet Files directory and then puts the temporary file in the new subdirectory. The name of the new subdirectory is unknown and is randomly generated, depending on your version of Outlook.
    Please check the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
Note the location for: OutlookSecureTempFolder key
Check if the same folder exists in the following location and if not create a corresponding folder in the location on C:\Users\<User account name>\Appdata\Local\Software\Microsoft\Windows\......

    Rave

  • Cannot Open a PDF File Created in Acrobat 9.0

My associates cannot open a PDF that I have created from Word 2007 using Acrobat 9.0 if I save the PDF to our network. They can open the PDF if I email the file to them as an attachment. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

It may depend on how you transfer the PDF to the network. Saving to a network seems to have mixed results with Acrobat and always has. Try saving locally and copying to the network drive. If you are transferring the file with FTP, be sure that you use binary file transfer.

  • Cannot open multiple PDFs in Acrobat Reader X

Ever since upgrading to Acrobat X, I cannot open multiple PDFs. With all previous versions over recent years, up to version 9, I could select multiple PDF files in Windows Explorer, hit Enter, and it loaded them all. Then I could Ctrl+F6 to switch between the documents. Quick and Easy.
Now, if I try this with just 2 PDF files, it loads one and then locks up, almost stalling the PC, with each session of Acrobat taking about 40-45% of processor power. I have to crash out of it.
    Help!
[P.S. As an aside, I don't like this floating toolbar that only appears if you happen to move the mouse over the bottom part of the screen. I suppose it's a "neat idea" from one of the programmers trying to be clever. Well guys, it is not user friendly. As a former Software QA and Product Manager, one of my design adages was "DON'T MAKE ME GUESS". Please think again.]

In my case: v10.1.1 would not open more than one pdf at a time on a user workstation (although mine did) so I tried disabling protected mode and made sure the large image display setting was correct.
To no avail. Reinstalled version base version 10, checked the same settings...no joy
Also tried repairing the install and re-updated from the base v10...still no love
Solution for me: Opened reader X, under Help-->Online Support, there is an option to generate a system report which availed the following:
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
    Version: 7.15.10.9685
    Check: Not Supported
And of coarse the most recent driver was already present. Had to go back to v9.4
All good now. Hope this saves someone a few hours!

  • I cannot open a pdf on mac - am running 17.0.1 on mac os 10.6.8

Hi, I cannot open a pdf on mac - am running 17.0.1 on mac os 10.6.8.
I followed the instructions here: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pdf-files-are-blank-and-cant-be-downloaded-mac?esab=a&s=pdf+mac&r=0&as=s but the problem is not fixed - I just get left with a blank screen in a new tab when trying to open pdfs (the downloads folder is also empty).
    For example here:
    http://unetealfuturodeltrabajo.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/esthetic-world-dic-2012.pdf

You may need to both change your Application preferences AND disable the Adobe Acrobat plugin. To disable the plugin:
    Tools > Add-ons > Plugins category
    Any luck?

  • I have re-installed Adobe Reader on to my Windows 7 PC. When I open a PDF I was getting an error message containing  . . . .Acrord32.exe application error . . . . I now cannot open any PDF's. Adobe seems to be unresponsive.

I have re-installed Adobe Reader on to my Windows 7 PC. When I open a PDF I was getting an error message containing  . . . .Acrord32.exe
I now cannot open any PDF's and Adobe seems unresponsive. I have tried to follow a step by step guide on how to fix this but Adobe won't stay open long enough for me to complete the steps. When I open Adobe it stays open for a matter of seconds then minimises to the task bar and when I click on it again I can't do anything with it and have to close it via task manager
    Please help!?

Disabling Protected Mode should fix the problem.  But since you cannot even open Adobe Reader by itself, you need to do it via the Windows registry.  If you tell me your installed Reader version, I can give you a registry script to do that.

OK. Then the next thing to try is to right-click a PDF file, select Open With, Choose Default Program, then select Reader from the list and tick the "Always use this application..." box, and click OK.

  • Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file that can be opened with Reader 9?

Why Adobe Reader XI cannot open a pdf file within a browser that can be opened with Reader 9?

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I cannot post a URL to the file because it is for intenal use only.
I noticed that the pdf file can be opened outside of IE browser if I disable the Adobe Reader add-on (active-X) in IE browser. If I enable the Reader add-on, the Reader cannot complete the file download. The progress bar goes in a half way, and stays there.
Just FYI, the pdf file was created by Distiller 7. Do you think it is the issue of Reader add-on? Thanks.

Cannot get over the impression that the fault is deliberate.  Building in the requirement for all users then loading a weak link, that drives you to purchase.
Shockwave is FREE... Flash Player is FREE.... Adobe Reader is FREE... Adobe AIR is FREE... Those four products are, and always have been, FREE... Flash Professional, which is for creating and editing Flash animation and video files, is a paid licensed product. Acrobat Professional, which is for creating and editing PDFs, is a paid licensed product. Neither Flash Player nor Adobe Reader have any links to prompt an upgrade to the professional version of software for the file format. Never have. Viewing Flash content and PDFs needs to be universally available to the public who receive such content over the Internet. Creating and editing Flash files and PDFs is not something that everyone needs, so it's only available at a cost for those who need it and choose to use Flash Pro or Acrobat.
There are Creative suites with several Adobe applications for everything from photo and graphic editing, to video editing, to making e-readers, to web design, but those are for developers of the individual media.
