Cannot open a Spreadsheet (Numbers Crash/Defect)

Hey everybody
Some minutes ago, Numbers crashed and switched back to the Homescreen.
Nothing new so far - it happened everything hour.
BUT this Time, starting it up again, Numbers told me, that my Spreadsheet (Used just some seconds ago) cannot be opened anymore.
Also, a reboot of the iPad (iOS 3.2) couldn't change something!!!
Other - earlier created Spreadsheets - do Not have this problem at all!!! They can be opened correctly.
What can I do?
Can I recover my file?
Is it saved in the Backup file on my Mac because of the Sync?
Can I do something more than a reboot?

Try to sync the file with iWork.com, or E-Mail the file to yourself. You now know you have a copy of the file someplace else.
You should do a full backup/sync before doing anything else.
Delete the application from the iPad and then install it again (directly form the iPad, not using the Sync. Download it again from the App Store). Make sure the application starts up, then sync the iPad again. IF the document still won't open there are bigger issues. Try to import it from iWork or the E-Mail and that should fix it.

I cannot open any spreadsheets on my iPad

I cannot open any spreadsheets in Numbers on my iPad. I can create new spreadsheets. If I try to delete a spreadsheet I get a message that I have to wait for the spreadsheet to finish updating. This has been going on for a few days now. Does anybody know how to fix this. I have thought maybe if I uninstalled and reinstalled Numbers, but I dont want to lose the spreadsheets that I have.

Try clearing Safari, close all apps on the iPad, reset the iPad and then try everything again.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I cannot open my recent numbers documents

I cannot open my recent numbers documents because I get the message saying I need to download the latest version from the App Store although the App Store says I have the latest version (09 v2.03 is installed) I cannot do anything. I have tried quitting everything & restarting. Just keep getting the same error message and it refuses to open

Unfortunately, the preference in Finder's Get Info doesn't work for setting a default since the file names are identical. Some users here have gone into the Applications folder and changed the filename of one of the apps to distinguish them.
A decent workaround is to make sure you have Quite both Numbers apps and look to see if either is on the Dock. If so, drag the icon off the dock. Then use Spotlight to search for Numbers. Two apps will be found:
Numbers - Applications and Numbers - iWork. Choose Numbers - Applications by clicking on it to launch the app. When the Numbers icon shows up in the Dock, Right-Click the icon and choose Options > Keep in Dock.
Henceforth launch from the Dock rather than from the document. To open documents, you can use the File menu in Numbers, or you can drag the file to the Numbers icon in the dock.
I've read that if only one version of Numbers is running, that's the one that will be used if you simply double-click a document name or icon. I haven't confirmed that.

Cannot open Pages or Numbers on Megapack for iWork , Cannot open Pages or Numbers on Megapack for iWork

I purchased the Megapack for iWork & Office two days ago and cannot open Pages or numbers. I've been on to Apple support for 3 days now. They have told me to delete app and re-download it. Having done that, problem persists. I've also been told to contact Nick Maskill, the app developer, but the link they gave me to do this http://keytemplates.miniurl.org comes up blank.
This is driving me nuts........has anyone else had the same problem? Have you been able to contact the app. developer?
Your help with this would be very much appreciated.

I am having the exact same issue as you. I purchased and downloaded SpreadsheetPro and all that shows is a blank black screen. On the advice of ITunes, I deleted and downloaded again. Same issue exists. I have tried to contact Nick Maskill to no avail.
Interestingly it showed up in my Evernote App as a zipfile. Still could not open.
Have you had any resolution at all? I am at a loss and feel ripped off for $30

I found a fix. I opened up the document (either Page or Numbers) in Preview. Then under Edit I hit Select All and then Copy. Then I opened up Page or Numbers and opened a blank document. Then under Edit I hit Paste and Match Style. Then Save Document under new name.

Cannot open form - Reader & Acrobat crash

I am facing a strange issue here on our citrix servers (Win 2008 x64, Citrix PS 4.5)
We have both Acrobat reader 9.4 and Acrobat Std 9.4 installed on the servers (problem occurs with verson 9.3 also)
When we try to open some pdf files (with either the reader or Acrobat), the window launches, and displays a part of the file, then the app crashes..
Those pdf for which the issue occur all contain forms. I even tried generating a simple pdf form containing one text box, and the problem occurs.
What is strangest is that if i save the file on disk (from say an email), I cannot open it. Consistently. This is always reproduced.
If I logoff, then log back on, I can then consistently open it.
It makes no difference if the file is saved on my desktop (we have roaming profiles), or in my home directory.
This does not affect all pdfs, but all users for some pdfs..
I have tried uninstalling one of the 2 products, but the other one keeps on crashing.
Nothing in the event logs, I tried to procmon, could not spot anything.
Any help would be VERY appreciated

I can not open a spreadsheet document that is stored on ICloud. Get message The document “filename.numbers-tef” could not be opened.

It sounds to me as though the document has become corrupt. You can try and download it from one device or another, however this may be unsuccessful.
Whilst it won't help you recover documents that have already become corrupt, can I suggest you get into the habit of backing up your documents in the cloud regularly.

Today i cannot open the old file, but i can create and open the new file. I try to shut down the ipad and reopen it, but it is the same. What should i do?

You will find that it is the size of the photos which are the problem. Give it time - let the wheel churn!
Other considerations -
Try sending her some to see what happens.
Get you wife to send a single photo to see what happens!
Finally, try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

I get error box THot2nd Window; message is cannot open powrprof.dll. system crashes

I have a Toshiba Tecra running XP professional Service Pack 3.
I was using Firefox and now have Chrome just installed. Problem occurs with both.
I routinely use GFI Viper - deep scan clear
Yesterday I installed MS Security Essentials - clear
I down loaded MS safety Scanner - clear
What happens - After 1-2 hrs running the system makes the 'somethings wrong' sound and the THot2nd Window with the powrprof.dll.......message appears. This happens repeatedly . There is a box that says the system has crashed and the program will be terminated. As I try to close these boxes more appear until there is a Unresponsive Program box appears and I click end now. Then when I click Start to shut down I am prompted to log off [which I dont usually see]. Either clicking logoff or cancel or x-ing out has no effect. Eventually the system restarts.

You've done lots of things you did not report to us. Among them, you did this one wrong. So let's start here.
I did as instructed re sfc.exe and there was a momentary small black screen then it disappeared.
So run sfc /scannow properly, which is at the command prompt.

First you will need to unarchive the file. It is in a compress CPIO archive format. The Mac can't handle that natively, and neither can Office, libreoffice or openoffice. You will need to get a tool that will work with this. I did some cusory investigation for you and found that some folks have used an app called "The Unarchiver" which is a free app from the app store.
Once you have unarchived the file, you will have a .xltx (xml formatted template file for Excel). The office suites mentioned should then work for you.

Cannot open numbers

Can someone help? I cannot open my own numbers documents, numbers documents sent to me by others, xcel documents or the numbers application. It worked fine for years, then had difficulty opening one doc. I performed a force quit and re-opened. After a few times, now it won't open anything. I can preview the docs, but cannot open/edit/create docs.

Make sure you are launching Numbers 3.1, the latest version. Then, hold down the Shift key as you launch the app to prevent any old document windows from opening as the app launches.
To find Numbers 3.1, Search for Numbers.app in Finder. Examine the results carefully and launch the one with the icon having a 4-bar chart. The other version has a 3-bar chart icon.

Problem when opening an iCloud-Numbers-Document

I cannot open a iCloud-Numbers-Document either on my iPad, neither on my MacBook. It only shows me an error message...

I too have this problem, but I have found a work around for it.
First I turned off iCloud storage for Numbers in the settings on my iPad. Then on my iMac I logged into iCloud.com land there is a Numbers app, which is still in beta, clicked on it and choose the file I wanted and choose the option to download it. Once downloaded I fired up iTunes and tried to import it into Numbers, but that didn't work so I choose another app, I have Textastic imported into that and then on my iPad opened the app and choose to open with Numbers from there and it worked.
I have also emailed my spreedsheet to myself and choose the option the open with Numbers from there and it worked. This method should also work with Dropbox, which I haven't tried but I will be adding my spreadsheets there for backup!
Hope this helps, it's a bit of a long winded hack, but it works. Hope Apple fix this soon.
